I ordered the tri-tip sandwich, and the chef absolutely delivered. It may honestly be the best tri-tip I've had in Northern California. The portion was generous, the price was very reasonable, and everything tasted fresh and perfectly made. Andres and his team were on top of everything and made me feel genuinely welcome from the moment I walked in. Great food, great service, and a great experience all around. Ohhhh... and the dessert? I went with the Miner's Madness, and it was the perfect way to finish the meal. Highly recommend!

We also got the bread pudding Ala mode. It was sooo delicious. The crinkle fries were nice and crispy and the sandwich was nice and flavorful as well. It is definitely great diner food. This place reminded me of a diner we had back at home in Hawaii and it had history just like this diner but due to COVID that diner closed its door. It was one of the last standing diners that we had and they got closed. So I was very happy to experience this diner vibe again. It was previously a worthy stop-off when the trip north or south was long and you needed a decent quality comfort-food bite on the fly. Sadly, this restaurant is now crossed off my list of options. Pricing here has gotten out of control (a hamburger is 30-35 dollars....a *hamburger* ?!?), with service nothing particularly special. So you will be paying roughly double, or more, for the price of a menu roughly equivalent to the quality of an Applebee's. The restaurant will argue these are the new inflationary market prices, supply demand dynamics, summer travel pricing to offset slower winter travel season, etc etc. But reaming the customer ain't a great recipe for having folks like me ever returning. It simply isn't worth it to dine here anymore, so I will keep driving past Virginia Creek Settlement and wave.

The kids' burger was overcooked to the point of being dry like a cracker, and the fries looked and tasted like they were cooked in old, repeatedly used oil. This is unsafe and unacceptable, especially for children's food. The steak was ordered medium well, but was served well done -- completely overcooked. The chimichurri sauce was also misleading: instead of the classic green sauce, a red mixture was served that had nothing to do with it. The coleslaw was simply awful. Additionally, the staff showed no proper response -- we were not offered a replacement, a discount, or even a proper apology. This reflects a complete disregard for service standards and customer care. In its current state, this does not meet even basic restaurant standards.

Since there were several people in front of me, after I put my order in, I took a short walk down a shirt block over to the little park nearby where the upside down house and lots of historical mining equipment is on display. I took a few photos, then walked back to Mo I Cone, got my burger, then found a picnic table on the back lawn and devoured it. So good! They have a beautiful outdoor eating area with good shade options. The menu is surprisingly extensive for such a tiny spot. Burgers, fries, and shakes are all excellent, like "wow, I wish I could get burgers this good when I'm not here" level good. They even carry gluten free buns for those of us who can't eat wheat, and they're shockingly good! They also have good options for vegetarians. The wait in line is where it starts, as the sun is typically beating down as you wait to order in the dirt parking lot, making the shade from the narrow porch and the friendly hello from the order taker your first reward for being here. Usually I'm hungry from a busy morning of breaking down camp, and a 1/4lb Walker Burger with American cheese, fresh veggies and secret sauce on a fluffy fresh seeded soft bun always hits. Summer time usually has me ordering a fresh seasonal fruit shake (peach) but honestly every shake is fantastic and I also LOVE the coffee shakes, which are made with real coffee and coffee beans for extra punch. Fries are always hot and fresh, and best of all they come out crispy without asking for it! Service is always friendly and fun too. What makes this spot special is the garden dining. Picnic tables are scattered throughout a well shaded area offering travelers a cool and relaxing area to enjoy their food.
