It's an unassuming little dyno tucked behind a small used-car lot, but if you need to get a *test-only* smog, this is definitely the place to go. You can do a walk-in, but a tip: call ahead for hours and try to show up earlier than later to beat the rush, because there's precious little parking available for waiting cars (which is the only reason I offer 4 stars). Sam is professional, is great at explaining anything you want to understand better, and will even offer you some coffee or water while you wait! If you find yourself waiting a little longer than that, a Denny's next door will help you pass the time too. read more

Every previous reviews are accurate! Once I pulled in the driveway, I was greeted immediately by Sam. He then informed me to wait in the waiting room and will get back to me in 5 minutes. Less than 5 minutes, he asked me to filled out the form and handed me a cold bottle water and once again informed me it will take about 20 minutes. Based on my observations, he was very thoroughly and professional with his testings. All of a sudden he disappears and reappear with orange and mango juice and offered it. It made me smile that everything that was mentioned from the other was true! Afterward, he continue to perform the testing on my car. Then you see him coming back at the waiting room and turn on the volume on the TV cause he noticed I was watching it. Wow . . . speechless! I rarely post reviews right after, but I had to right away this! Once everything was done, he explained to me a couple of error messages that will appear on my car due to the testing, but will be turnoff after I start driving on the road. He was right! Honestly and professional service. Opens on Sundays too! From now on, I will go to his shop for Smog checks! Definitely recommend this place! read more

I never thought I'd be effusive in my praise of a smog check place but WOW - this one deserves it! Sam, although taciturn, is quick, professional and efficient. The station itself is spotless with chairs and even a comfy loveseat to sit on as you wait. And as you wait there's a TV, magazines, a newspaper, cold bottles of water and - at least when I was there - fresh cookies and cake from a bakery! The price is competitive, too. I arrived at Vista Test Only Center in Pasadena just when the vcu v butler game started, and I was back before half time was over. I honestly didn't notice the time elapse, since Sam took good care of me while I waited. The "S" in Sam stands for "Service"; he offered me tea and pastry, and there was a TV there to round out his fulfilled goal of keeping me truly comfortable. I sat in one of the four shop chairs, but there is also a leather love seat if you prefer total comfort. It's a smog test only garage - so don't expect extravagance. I called numerous smog shops but Sam at Vista Test Only Center was the most helpful and kind person. He offered to use the 20% off coupon for me even though it clearly states that you need to print the coupon. Upon arriving, Sam offered me a cold bottle water, which was perfect for the hot, humid LA day! Filled out some very short paperwork and my car was being tested. Next thing I know, he's offering me dessert, fruit, and chocolate! Such a generous, kind man! Service was outstanding and we chatted about food and restaurants the whole time. Before I know it, it's complete and I'm paying my discounted bill. My inspection passed with flying colors he said, and I told him how I had to recently have some exhaust work done. He kindly asked how much I paid and then picked up the phone and called a mechanic he had heard of. He got a quote for the work I had done to my car, and found it to be HALF as much as I paid (and I had shopped around for that price!!)!! He then gave me the mechanic's info and said that if I ever had any car questions, please see him first as he would do all he could to help me for free, before paying for outrageous mechanic prices elsewhere. What a freaking rip off!!!!! BEWARE of coming over here! Like others, I used the coupon on Yelp and I assumed it was going to be $35, but nope they charged me $48!!! I own a 7 year old Honda Accord, not a brand new car!!!! My friend referred me to them because she got her smog done a few weeks ago and they charged her $35 out the door. WTF!??? When I told the guy that my friend paid $35. He told me that he guess the manager gave her a special price. Ummmm....Okay!!! Well... here's the thing: they're great when their equipment is working, and useless when it isn't. ALWAYS call them before going in, ESPECIALLY if, like me, you have a pre-2000 model year vehicle and Extra Double Dog Especially if you have a very old and probably carbureted vehicle like my 1981 Dodge van. Back in 2014, i waited **Months** to go to Vista, given my prior good experiences there, but there were ongoing issues with equipment and the State of California approving it. I thought that was a one-time thing, went back in 2016, had an excellent experience, wrote my prior review, because when the equipment works, they're *great*. So now, at the beginning of 2018, it's a similar story: some of their equipment necessary for testing my old van is nonfunctional. I went in on Sunday without calling (stupid me!); Jesus informed me the equipment was down, and to call Carlos on Monday. I did. He suggested i call again Wednesday. That's today as i type: another week, maybe. I can't do this any more, guys. I need an emissions testing shop that's ready to go when i need the work done, every two years without fail. Thanks for everything, but i've gotta move on now. You're still on my list of options for 2000 and newer vehicles (if any of those ever enter my life) and as a last resort if absolutely everyone else in the area fails me. I can't speak highly enough of this place. Smog checks are always routine, mundane experiences; quick visits to a spartan garage where you show up, hang around, maybe have a cup of instant coffee, and 15 minutes later you've checked the box for another two years. Nothing special. And yet, Sam makes sure that your 15 minutes in his shop are comfortable and that you don't leave feeling anything less than happy. A young gentleman was polite & professional. He quoted $50! I then inquired about the price after the 20% coupon offered via Yelp. He asked where did I see a 20% coupon. When I reiterated it was offered on Yelp he the replied the cost would be $48 out the door! Please tell me how that works?!?!?! He made up some excuse of taxes & surcharges & certificates. I repeated that he just quoted me $50 out the door BEFORE I mentioned the 20% off Yelp coupon discount! How is $2 supposed to be a 20% discount?!?!?! REALLY?!?! is that Common Core math?!?!?! I mentioned the review that stated $35 out the door & he denied it & said I was mistaken! Not only was I reading that to him, but that review is still on here AND STILL one of the first reviews listed NOW! On December 31, 2018, I arrived about 15 minutes before closing at 1:00 pm. The owner started the test and finished about 1:00pm. As a car manufactured after 2000, mine required only minimal testing. While my car was being tested, and about 10 minutes before closing, customers arrived with three more cars to be tested. The owner remarked that he had a pressing appointment. Instead of being grateful that he was willing to work past closing time to accommodate them, some customers began to complain loudly and demanded to know when their cars would be tested. The owner gave them an honest estimate and worked hard to finish my car quickly. He managed to keep his composure and to treat these last minute complainers with undeserved courtesy. As I left, he was working away. He still seemed interested in taking care of the customers rather than just closing up shop to go to his apparently important appointment. read more

Excellent customer service! Wow! Earlier in the day (Saturday) I had dropped by the place I previously took my car for smog check. There were 2 customers waiting, but no one working. I left and did other things. Then realized around 4PM I needed to get the smog check done. I looked on Yelp... most smog test businesses were closed, but this one was open til 6! I noticed all the 5 star ratings and headed on down. Sam was great!
