Being new to the area this "smog check" was also new to me. I called ahead of time to confirm an appointment was not needed. I found a coupon online so the total was only $35. I showed up around 3pm on a Friday and one person ahead of me was about to leave. The gentlemen in the garage handed me a bottle of cold water (it was in the 90s and the garage is open air) and said he would get me in and out quickly. I realized 10 minutes before my DMV appointment I needed to get a smog check done before transferring a car title into my name. I luckily found Sam who took me without an appointment. Personable guy, bragged about how his tea was the best and I had to have some. It was good tea! Then he's like "here's some chocolate, it's good". So I ate it. It was good chocolate! Then I left my wallet up on the counter and he's like "never do that. Never ever do that. I did that at a gas station once and never saw my wallet again". Because of him, I will never part with my wallet again. Serious stuff. I was out of there in 20-25 minutes, I was a little late for my appointment but they still took me. Fast and friendly service. Needed a "Star" center and so had to find a new place for my smog check. Carlos was awesome & I'm happy to go back next time even if it's not required to be a Star center. No issue using the coupon I found online. The parking lot is small and can be a little tricky to navigate....when the test was complete, Carlos backed my car out and turned it around for me to make it easy. Mom and pop smog test shop charging $40 for full size sedan. Speedy service with a broken in couch for you to enjoy during the 15 minute wait for the test. Be forewarned they close at 5 so you'll have a narrow window to get the job done and may need to go during work. Needed a smog test for my auto registration renewal and read lots of positive reviews about Vista Test Only Center. Problem was next to nobody was open on Sunday - the only day I could get it done. Fortunately, Vista was one such company so they got my business. What the facility lacks in space (the site is shared with an auto reseller so parking is cramped, and I believe they can only accommodate one vehicle at a time, so I had to wait for two other people to be finished before my car got started) and comfort (the waiting area consists of a very-broken-in but comfortable couch, a couple chairs and a TV - all open-air so hot or cold days might have you wanting to be elsewhere during your wait), Sam makes up for in friendliness (complimentary bottled water from the fridge and chocolates/sweets) and relatively quick service. My smog check took about 20 minutes and my wait prior to getting into the dock was about 35 minutes. They offer an array of services, including STAR Certification which some test-only locations do not do. And being a test-only company, you don't have to worry about the "oh, for your car to pass smog, you're going to need this, that and the other thing repaired first" possibility that may accompany an auto repair facility that also does smog checks. Prices for smog checks seem to vary considerably and, of course, will be dependent on what type of check you actually need done. I also found prices somewhat elusive to find online, but the range seems to be $30-60. Went here for a smog check because of the good reviews on Yelp and I'm glad I did! Was in and out of there in 20 minutes. The guy who performed the service was really friendly. He chatted me up about soccer and offered me a bottle of water all while I waited for the test to be completed. A very straightforward place to do business with. I rolled in on a late Tuesday afternoon, Sam told me there would be a 10 minute wait as there was one car ahead of me. I gave him my paperwork and relaxed on the couch. A few minutes later he offered me refreshments (nice touch) and then finished up with the customer ahead of me. Found myself strapped for a smog check on a Sunday and started freaking out when I saw most places were closed. Luckily, Vista was not only open but pretty close by and very nice on the phone. Got there around 9:45am and had to wait about 10 minutes for another car to get done. While waiting, we got complimentary coffee and water bottles in a nice seating area protected from the hot sun. We were in and out within 20-30 minutes and had an amazing hassle free experience. To top it all off, the total cost for our smog check was $48 which is at least $20 less than I've paid in the past! I've had 2 very stubborn cars that have issues passing smog and Carlos and Sam have worked tirelessly to make sure the problems got resolved and they pass smog. SAM is a very knowledgeable guy and will give you advice and recommend you the best and cheapest place to do any kind of car work. He use to own a mechanic shop, but due to health problems, he only does smog check now. The price is 48.00 for everything, which is the cheapest around 8 miles radius. Every time I go, he offers me coffee, water, chocolates, fruit...you name it. While the machine is testing the car, we chat about healthy food and life's goings-on.
