We were stoked to find a Peruvian restaurant in NC while visiting family for the weekend. If you haven't had Peruvian food before this place is a great starting place. They specializes in rotisserie chicken (Pollo à la brasa) which has one of the best flavors you will ever experience with chicken. The employees were friendly and helpful in suggesting items and answering questions. The restaurant was very vibrant with a modern look, and was playing upbeat music which kept us nodding our heads. We had such a great experience that we came back 2 days later for more. I'm hoping we will see one of these restaurants in Chattanooga TN in the near future. We desperately need one!! Had lunch here recently and we sat on the outside covered patio area for an enjoyable afternoon meal. Ordered the half rotisserie chicken from the overhead menu board, this place as the name implies has chicken a multitude of ways. My half bird came with a choice of two sides, I opted for the fries and beans along with a pink lemonade. The roasted chicken was fall of the bone tender, flavorful and good, a decent portion. I have ate here many times so am suprised I haven't done a review. The employees are always bee friendly and orders are always accurate. I've done take out and dine in, I love the Thursday family meal deal. The dining area and restrooms are always clean. The chicken soup is one of my favorite soups. It is full of chicken with a flavorful broth and vegetables. I love that when you get a bowl to go they package the broth separate so you can mix it as you eat it or all at one time. I have to update my review based on my last encounter. I usually love Viva, but when I went to pump some sauces last time, they were all coming out watered down. I've been coming to Viva a lot for years now, so I'm aware of when the sauce is up to standard in texture vs when it is watery in the pumping station. Normally, this isn't a problem because I go up to the counter and the staff is nice enough to give me cups of proper sauce. On this last visit, however, I was taken back over to the pumping station, where the staff member pumped out the watery sauces in front of me and said, "that's how it's supposed to be." When I refuted her claim and requested cups of sauce from behind the counter, she said, "well, they're the same because I filled them from the pump." So if this is the new standard for how the sauces are going to be, then I'm going to stop bringing my business here. I know times are tough, Viva, but I'm not about to start dipping my chicken in flavored water. I'll be waiting to see when the quality standard has been brought back up to what I have come to expect before I return, because this is unacceptable. read more

Just learned about their Tuesday special; a platter of chicken tacos for $25. Comes with loads of chicken, rice, and beans as well as tortillas, avocado with pickled onion, and up to SIX sauces on the side. As a sauce girlie I was stoked. Flavor was bland, Definitely needed some salsa to spice it up a little. Service was ok but not the greatest. I did like the music playing in the background. This is one of my go to spots in Winston-Salem. I went and got their one signature drink Chicha Morada with my birthday reward. I also got their Naked Peruvian Wrap. I recommend you get it as is and opt out of the chicken and I got the yuca as my side. I haven't stop by in a while but I notice now they have a sauce station now which is new. Instead of asking you can just grab and go. They have really nice rewards app. I got it to go but there are plenty of tables and seats available. The place is also reasonably priced. My wife and I have talked about trying Viva Chicken on several occasions but when in the area we always seem to go to one of the other two establishments in the same strip mall. Today we decided to stop in and arrived about 3pm on a Monday afternoon. Viva Chicken is what we refer to as "fast casual", customers order at the counter and are provided a number and drink cups and they bring the food out to your table. Due to us arriving between the typical lunch and dinner times, it was not very busy and we took the opportunity to ask a few questions about the menu. Neither my wife or I are familiar with Peruvian dishes and were a bit intimidated to try but the young woman at the counter was very helpful and friendly when asking questions. My wife decided on the quarter rotisserie chicken with all white meat and two sides. She chose the green beans and sweet potato fries. She noticed the plantains on the menu, which she loves and is excited to come back and try them in the future. I chose the rotisserie chicken sandwich with one side, and I chose regular fries. I also added a cup of the chicken soup. We took a seat and were impressed with the overall feel of the space, it appears clean and well taken care of and they also have a large indoor/outdoor patio space. Our food arrived a few minutes later and looked delicious. Our fries were hot and crispy and seasoned well. My wife enjoyed the rotisserie chicken and I thought the chicken sandwich was also really good. The green beans were incredibly flavorful and delicious and the chicken soup was full of fresh ingredients and comforting. We enjoyed trying both the mild and medium sauces as well. The food here is fresh flavorful and Scrumptious! I ordered the tacu bowl and the corn salad. The corn kernels were larger than any I've ever seen in my life! they had the perfect texture and taste. The salad was full of onions and other delicious veggies that made it perfect. I got the Peruvian fried rice as my base in the tacu bowl and it was so flavorful with the ginger, cilantro and jasmine rice. I also ordered the corn salad which was also very flavorful and the marriage of the flavors in the tacu bowl and the corn salad was spot on! The spices that they use here are so fresh and flavorful. I asked which salsa was slightly spicy, but not overly so and was told that the red sounded like what I was describing, but was given a cup of all three so that I could choose the one that was my preference. The Canary beans and the rice were also delicious. I liked the fact that the three large tomatoes that were included were packaged separately so as to not get mushy on the hot chicken and rice combination. There was also some other cold vegetable that was akin to coleslaw, but not Exactly was packaged separately as well. I added the rotisserie chicken to my bowl and it was moist, abundant, and flavorful. The service here was so friendly and the cashier from the week before remembered us and greeted us and welcomed us back. The music and the vibe of viva chicken are also very upbeat and positive. The prices are also excellent! I received a $20 gift card from Kylie the kind, friendly and extremely helpful customer relations manager because of a bad experience I had with the food the first time I came in. I said in that first review that I gave three stars that I would definitely be back because I believe in giving places a second chance. I also told Kylie that it happens in every industry and she said that it should never happen in their restaurant. Again, she was very kind and apologetic. You should definitely try Viva chicken if you have never! I promise you you will not be disappointed! The plus is that my meal that only cost $19.78 was enough for at least three servings! I read your response of course, and I'd expected it after my experience was less than I'd hoped for, and that is what my review said. I read a great many Yelp reviews before visiting your restaurant and noticed that often on reviews that had negative comments you or someone else in your organization would send a similarly toned, often similarly worded reply. I will let my review stand as it, I have nothing to add that would change the narrative. Your response on the surface seems genuine, but in the final analysis your organization does not respond, in a public manner, to any of the concerns that are raised by challenging reviews. I've been here a few times, and it's a solid choice for lunch or dinner. I love their cilantro rice, fried yucca fries and maduros (sweet plantains). Rotisserie chicken is a staple in Peruvian cooking, and I'm glad they kept their aji sauces as authentic as possible. I love their beverages, too! I've got to say that their steak menu has improved so much; yes, I know they are known more for their chicken and the peruvian sauces, but the steak saltado was almost as good as mine when I make it! and for a peruvian to say that, that's a big deal. I came here as a party of two on a Tuesday right around 12pm. It was not very crowded, but they may be mainly due to the weather. I ordered the quarter chicken with the side of sweet potato fries and corn salad. The food came out super fast. The chicken was very juicy which I enjoyed. The sweet potato fries were okay, I have had better. The corn was interesting and didn't taste bad. I also had ordered a fountain drink which I think the price was a little high for the size cup we got. I've eaten here with friends, ordered to go for dinner, and come with coworkers as well. Service is always really fast and friendly. Here's what I've found in a few visits to this Viva location... The quality of the service at the order counter is a bit lacking. The employees there seem unmotivated. During my last visit, at a time when it was not busy, I waited in front of the register for a few minutes waiting for one of the three staff members at the counter to take my order. One ignored me altogether, a second looked at me but offered no help even when I stated I'd like to place an order. Neither of these two were busy at the time. The third staffer had been busy throughout this time, and she took my order once she was done with her tasks...but she did so with an air of resentment throughout the process. I recall a previous visit where the person taking my order seemed bothered by the fact that they should have to answer any questions I might have about what I was about to order. In short, this place needs to work on how their front facing staff approaches customer service. I will say I've always found the restaurant to be clean during my visits, so I appreciate the time they take to keep things neat, wiped down, etc. There's plenty of seating, and though I don't really care for the cold industrial aesthetic of this place it's not necessarily off-putting. I have been impressed by the kitchen's speed. They seem to get the food out quickly and correctly once ordered. The dishes are brought to your table once it's completed, so you shouldn't need to go back to the order counter (thankfully). As for the food, I'll begin with the plantains. GET THEM. Half starchy side item and half dessert, but delicious in both respects. I have thought about dropping by here just to order plantains on occasion. I can also speak highly of the chicken. The bird meat ain't cheap, friends, but it's juicy and pleasantly spiced. I was not as impressed with the burrito, and that's mainly due to value. The standard burrito is expensive as it is; adding meat to it is an additional expense. You read that right. If you want chicken -- the protein this restaurant is known for -- on your burrito it will cost even more. I spent the extra money, and it's good that I did because the chicken was the only really impressive part of that wrap. The remainder of the burrito's contents were plain in every way. Want a burrito? Go to a burrito place instead. It'll be cheaper and better that way. read more

I love Viva Chicken so much! I really miss the one in Raleigh so anytime I'm in Winston I have to stop. The Arroz Chaufa is absolutely delicious and when I order online I can remove items and add extra items of my favorites like onions and peppers. The portion size is also amazing! It's huge! The chicken is so juicy! The solterito is also one of favorites! I always get at least two large orders of it to take home with me. It such a good mix of edamame, corn, tomatoes, onions and spices! I took my dad here today for a Christmas present. It was my first time, though I've heard a lot about Viva and it lived up to the hype! I got The Great on ciabatta and my dad got the Tacu Bowl with pulled chicken. Mine was very good. The presentation was superb but didn't quite match the taste, as mine (maybe it was the ciabatta?) was slightly dry. I could have used more of the sauce that came with the sandwich. Next time I think I'll opt for the bow - my dad said his was excellent! My dad is also in his 60s, yet we felt very safe eating here on the covered patio area. I visited Viva Chicken on a holiday Monday right when they opened for lunch. It was pretty quiet. They had taken appropriate health and safety precautions for their staff and guests by spacing tables and removing many of the self-serve items. I ordered the Naked Peruvian Wrap and added chicken with a side of Chaufa rice. I settled into a seat outside and the food came quickly. The staff member asked if I wanted some of their sauces and she was happy to get some for me. The wrap was really good. The veggies inside were fresh and the whole thing was very filling. I ended up putting a bit of the yellow sauce on the wrap too because it's my favorite. I did end up finding a few small bones from the pulled chicken. That happens. The chaufa rice I'm guessing is a Peruvian version of fried rice. It's great on it's on and even better with a sprinkle of the red sauce (in my opinion). We attended the soft opening last night and loved it! It was my first time trying Peruvian food and Viva Chicken was a great introduction to it! We got the Pollo a la brasa 1/4 chicken white meat with green beans and arroz chaufa, naked Peruvian wrap with pulled chicken and a side of plantains, and arroz chaufa with steak Everything had SO much flavor and the portions were perfect (even had with some leftovers to take home). The chicken and steak were cooked perfectly, not dried out at all. The quinoa wrap had such a great combo of textures and flavors! Side sauces were also delicious, my favorite was the Aji Amarillo sauce. Even with it being a soft opening and pretty busy we felt the service was great.
