I bought my home and it had a vivint system. I thought I'd activate it as we would be moving in right away. The sales rep lied and said it was all hardwired and suggested a replacement protection plan in case there are any issues with the equipment. Turns out the system didn't work, specifically the cameras and some sensors. Also turns out the protection plan won't cover replacement. They wanted to send a technician ($$$) to diagnose and suspected I would need equipment replaced. So I asked to cancel my account immediately and I installed my own home install system (which works). I cannot cancel my account and they still charge me and won't refund any of my money. I have called the retention department numerous times with no resolution. This is an average business at best. When I bought the house, the cameras and control panel were already installed. I just had to take on the $50 per month charge. In exchange, the company left me hanging. Any and every time I need answers or instructions on how to operate this, or change settings for that, it takes a long phone call or chat experience that goes nowhere. If my alarm goes off, they are right on it. Great work there. However, with Vivint, the customer comes last. Need help? Last. Got a service order needing completion? Last. Expecting a follow-up? Last, last, last. Horrible customer service. Their outgoing service people do good work. When they come out, they work hard and generally know what they are doing. I've had two experiences with them. However, recently I had a guy come out to work on my garage door. After two hours of failure, he said he'd need to get a better part and follow up. That was weeks ago, no phone call, no email, no follow-up, and my garage door still won't open. I'll call them to see why they forgot about me. Again. Because, yes, this has happened before. As long as everything works and you don't need ANYTHING until your home is burglarized, or don't need them otherwise, Vivint is a good company. Okay bye. read more

The worse experience I have every had with a security company. I wish I had read the reviews before I signed the contract. The salesman lied about everything. I paid over $2,500 for equipment that didn't last 2 years. To make matters worse I have been trying to cancel for months and after 4 requests they are still billing me. I wasted over $4,000 on a service I couldn't use and equipment that doesn't work. I definitely learned my lesson while dealing with this horrible company. Vivint's security system is nice, but their "life-long" contractual agreement is horrible. If you ever move or have no need for the system, you will have an extremely challenging time paying off or selling the equipment and paying them off for monitoring...even if you no longer need the service. Unless you read all of the fine print and are ok with that, I wouldn't recommend getting caught up with them. read more

During the sales call i was told that my existing garage door opener would directly integrate into the system and expected it to be part of the system i paid for. This is not the case without paying another junk fee to unlock this option that should have been included. I talked to our sales rep 'Joey' while he was still working our neighborhood and he said that he would correct this issue. He obviously did nothing. When talking to Vivint directly they refused to stand behind any verbal commitment by their representative 'Joey'. Vivint sent someone out to install the full system, which included a smart thermostat. Somehow an estimate of 50-odd dollars/month before installation crept up to over $80/month on the day of installation! Worse, the technician installed the thermostat incorrectly. When we turned on the heat we got cold air and when we turned on the cold air we got emergency heat. We figured this out a few hours after installation and contacted him, but he refused to return to remedy the situation. Upon calling customer service, they told us we had to pay an HVAC person to come out and fix it! I canceled the next day, but they dragged out sending anyone out to collect the equipment. Now they are saying I didn't cancel within the 3 day window and claim that I'm responsible for the cost of the equipment (almost $3,000)! In the course of all of this, we discovered they have a history of illegal, unethical, and shoddy business practices (see why their CEO was fired in 2021). This latest smart thermostat allows the company that bought them in November 2023, NRG, to monitor your usage patterns, which is why they include this in the system. I have reported this company to the Better Business Bureau and will tell everyone I meet my story (which I assure you isn't over). read more

I should have paid attention to the one star rating. The installer came, made a complete mess. He also littered in our driveway. He spent the whole time on the phone. Told us he had no time to answer any questions and said my wife was "stupid" if she needed to ask any questions. He literally took the text code off my phone to do the review of HIMSELF! He cursed constantly saying he was "in charge" of 20 people and shouldn't be doing installs himself. He then told us he would come some other time to install other equipment and told me to let him in remotely (i.e. I don't need to be there because he "can be trusted"). I am contacting Vivint HQ about how unprofessional and crazy this experience was. One would think the company would pay attention to all these one star reviews given that if you can't trust a security company there is a strong irony there since their revenue is based off..trust.I have never had this type of negative experience. This is the worst experience I have had with any company I have had to deal with. I closed my account in July after using Vivint for 5 years because the service I received was less than adequate. After the 30 day wait to officially close my account another month's fee was taken from my bank account. I have spoken with 5 different people starting on August 13th who told me that a refund would be processed in 3-5 business days. It is now December 13th (4 months) and I still have not received my refund. How many 3-5 business days do I need to wait for a refund of a charge that was taken out after the account was officially closed. I was given an invoice number for the refund and a payment number. Does that mean anything to Vivint. They make no hesitation to take out your payment in a timely fashion!!!! read more

So we had the Landon from Viviant sell us the trial period with a security system. It didn't work for days, then a tech lied about coming to fix it. We got back ahold of Landon again and he sent someone to fix it. Told him then and again on Monday we didn't want to continue service. Landon has since started ignoring my efforts at communication. Now the office is saying that we are a day late in telling someone we didn't want the service. We have set of the alarm once and the 'monitoring' party didn't even ask for our code word. Anything could have been happening and they moved on. Landon is now responding to my husband and ignoring myself. He won't even answer my phone calls. Anyone else deal with this drama with them? If you haven't dealt with it, I wouldn't risk entering any agreement with them. It is a trap. read more

I just called to get a quote and learn more about the products for a whole house security system plus cameras in a large home. The most useful piece of information the guy would tell me is that for cameras you can choose between the best or better than best (brilliant)... Once I told him our needs he wouldn't give me any sort of pricing once he "built my package" without first running a credit check. He then said he would settle for a soft pull if I would just give over my social and birthday. The exact opposite of clear pricing and worse than used car dealers. I told him I don't need financing just give me the lump sum and he wouldn't even do that just kept explaining why he needed to do a credit check. Honestly, I was in a hurry and it's not my money, so probably would have gone with them if they were reasonable to deal with at all and just gave me a price and some basic information about what they were going to do for that price. read more

Customer service reps are rude and their 42 month contract is unbreakable. I paid them for over 2 years for horrible service (several of my sensors broke and they wanted me to pay for replacements). When I lost my job, and found a lower paying job, we decided to downsize our home instead of going into complete debt. We luckily sold our home quickly (at a loss). We still had a contract with Vivint for 16 months. I could see the new homeowners on the security sensors and see all their opening and closing of doors, windows, and motion sensors. Vivint refused to disconnect the service, because the new homeowners didn't want to take over the contract. And I didn't take the system with me bc I couldn't afford it. Now I have their bill headed to collections. Not like my credit matters now... read more

Something is very wrong with the customer support infrastructure here. I am calling vivint for the third time after being hung up on by their system two times after waiting about 10 minutes on hold each time. Their internet system seems to be riddled with errors too; I'm currently locked out of my account because their registration process didn't go through properly and my password is not being recognized, nor has a reset password bent sent to my e-mail. read more

Vivint claim to deliver great customer service and top quality technical support; however, either is not true. In fact, the customers services ((which includes their supervisor) and technical support team are the most incompetent group of people I have every experienced. I purchased upgraded security equipment in February that has not worked. Upgrade equipment supposed to work without issues at least for the first five years. However, everything I have upgraded has only been given me issues. Before you can get a technician to come out to fix your issue, they require you to trouble shoot your own problems that involves you climbing a ladder while speaking with customer services on the phone for hours with no resolution to resolve the problem. If you request a technician, you have to pay $49 ( which is crazy given the fact that their products does not and had not worked for the first 60-120 days). Additionally, the first available appointments they you have to wait 30 days. How is that helping me if the equipment is not working especially if they are supposed to be monitoring my home. Where is the SECURITY in that if someone were to break into my home. Tell all of your family and friends please do not use this company. If a Vivint representstove come to your home, call your home offering you a deal, send you an email or a text, sky ride from a plane, don't walk.....run for your life because in actuality that what you are going to be doing with VIVINT faulty equipment and horrible customer service. read more

This company uses pushy door-to-door salesmen like it's the 50s or something. We had a guy come to our house even though our street has a large No Soliciting sign. He came while my wife was there and she got rid of him, but then the next day (Saturday) he showed up again at 7 at night on a during dinner. I kept politely saying I wasn't interested, and that I was eating dinner, but he just kept on. He had some bogus story about burglars cutting phone lines and cars broken into on our street (not true). I finally had to slam the door on him. DO NOT USE VIVINT FOR YOUR ALARM NEEDS! I have had the most horrendous time cancelling my account with this company. I was moving out of the country and needed to cancel. I was forced to pay a huge termination fee even though my account had just "auto-renewed" without any notification 30 days earlier. After paying this fee and hoping to be done with the situation, I continued to receive calls from the billing department because they said my account was still open! Literally one of the most horrific experiences I have ever had with a service provider. I do not recommend this company to anyone. It took 6 months to resolve and I am afraid I will still receive phone calls about erroneous charges in the future. Caveat emptor! read more

BEWARE. Faulty equipment and consistent lies from their Corporate and Tech support continues to happen. I would have rated a zero star, but it wouldn't let me. I've had to call them on 9 different occasions in the last few months for the same issue, and keep getting told we fixed it. They LIE!!! We've had nothing but problem after problem after problem. Between phone calls and tech visits, I must have 30 HOURS invested and the problem STILL has not been fixed. What's worse, the issue causes the panel to make ridiculous noises which literally torture my dogs and to the point they try to escape the house. In doing do, they have destroyed doors, gates, carpet and blinds. What's worse is Vivint takes no ownership of any of it. They are supposed to be a high tech company. What a joke. Used the bs "Your street has been having issues with break in lately" tactic. Totally untrue since I know people in the local PD. He started asking about my front and back doors, and actually started to open my screen door to walk into the house since he wanted to look around.
