I've ordered at least 4-5 times here for dinner if I'm too lazy to cook. Food: My go-to order is their lemongrass chicken with rice noodles, all veggies, and VN sauce. The ratio of their chicken and rice noodles is always perfect, and the portion is perfect for one person. If I order spring rolls, I need to share it with another person. The spring rolls are always soft and chewy, the perfect textures. And with coconut juice? Perfect dinner, especially after a tough work day. Service: Consistent. I order ahead and it's always ready by the time I arrive. The owners are all so nice and friendly. It seems like a laid back restaurant. Location: Their parking lot is shared by City Sports Club, so parking is sparce during peak dinner time. Whew. It also is right next to Chipotle, Dave's Hot Chicken, and other restaurants, so I try to order before 5pm or after 7pm to avoid the terrible parking. Came here after my workout class since it's close by and thought why not give it a try. It's surprising that no one was in store given it's a Saturday noon time. The place is clean and has decent number of tables that come with stools (not chairs though). So it's not a place you want to sit relax and hang out for long. They offer healthy selection of ingredients. You custom made your bowl and choose combo of rice or noodle, choice of protein, veggie and type of sauce you want to go over your bowl. I wasn't too hungry and I opted for their spring rolls. Also their mushroom spring roll caught my attention as I have not seen any restaurants offer pure mushroom spring rolls so was curious. The mushroom spring roll is on the healthier side with light soya sauce marination. Don't expect the rich heavy marinated mushroom (like the mushroom that is in Duc Huong vegetarian banh mi. Tofu spring roll was average. Their peanut sauce was good and sweet but I have to say the VN sauce which is primarily fish sauce and some vinegar was a tad too salty, sour and strong fish sauce taste. I also ordered the Vietnamese coffee which is strong but somehow gave off some "musky" end note taste to the drink which I'm not accustom to. Alrighty...! It's been ten years since I last ate here and left a review lol oh how times have changed but surprisingly this place has stood the test of time... Many restaurants have come n go in that plaza I can attest to that. Okkk so I gave em a pretty crap review in 2014. I think from memory they more or less taste the same but there's diff circumstances in play now. Particularly value... My main complaint before was that at traditional Viet restos it basically cost the same for the comparable dish except in fact you get more cause you get the other trad toppings like the egg roll, shredded pork skin, egg loaf etc... But now vn grill is about a solid 1-3 bux less so the pricing makes more sense now especially if you don't need any of the other frills and just want basic bowl of carb, meat, veggies. I will say I don't think the pork tastes as good as in some traditional restaurants maybe cause it's made to order so the protein is still hot but it's still solid. Overall, had a solid experience. I feel like the restaurant provides solid value now. Also, I think if they were smart they should have an option for extra protein at like $3.5 or allow half n half bowls like chipotle. The woman behind the counter was patient and got my order processed quickly. My bowl took only a few minutes to prepare, and again, the size was very good. As for the bowl, while the portion was very big, they really loaded on the base, but I think the ratio of the protein choice in mine was pretty even. It really is like an Asian Chipotle, except you tell them what your order at the cashier, and then they'll make it for you after you pay. It was my first time here so I stuck with the popular options. I ordered the signature VN Pork with white rice, and all of the veggies except the jalapenos and pickled carrot/daikon. I decided to get the VN sauce and it was a great pick! Slightly sweet and yummy poured over the rest of the food. The price was around $14 after tax, which wasn't tooo bad, especially since I had some left overs to snack on later. Food was ready very quick, and the worker was very nice and friendly. Honestly, I don't have much more to say here than what other elite members haven't already broken down in perfect story telling style... Hubs ordered pork bowl and killed it. The kids and hubs went with the signature fish sauce. I did beef and shrimp and it was good. I did pay for the sesame sauce which was 50 cents more. We did notice all the sauces are watered down. We like our sauces especially the fish sauce with that salty umami taste. We did ask for chili. We tried the banh mi taco - it had fine shredded cabbage and carrots and was good to try once. I got the springs rolls and didn't care for them at all. Kids loved the nori fries. We got 2 fountain drinks and it's straight up carbonated blah. It's missing the proper syrup to flavor the Fanta and Coca Cola! Rarely do we ever order soda but decided randomly today. I did mention to the workers it's missing the proper syrup and they just said thanks and didn't take any sort of action to fix or anything. This spot was AMAZING! I heard that this place is delicious so I had to give it a shot. Ordered through DoorDash and typically I expect the quality to be a little worse with delivery but it was yummy and fresh. I ordered the shrimp bowl with a base choice of white rice, and shared the nori fries with a friend. The shrimp was SO tender and full of flavor, I wasn't expecting it to be that juicy. It comes with 2 free sauces so I chose the VN sauce and tamarind sauce which added a nice sour taste to the bowl while also softening the rice. I did hear that the vermicelli makes it bomb so I will be choosing that as a base next time. The nori fries were still good even though they arrived a bit soggy (common with delivery) and had so much flavor and came with a spicy mayo dipping sauce. Would definitely recommend this spot!
