Been on the fence about reviewing this place because I don't like leaving negative reviews. We've been here as a family a few times and each time it gets worse and worse. Location: pretty tricky to get in or out because the signs block your view of oncoming traffic (which is on a busy road so cars are moving pretty fast). The dining room is dark and pretty grimy. There was a weird stickiness to just about everything; tables, menus, silverware... The service: the only reason why I'm giving it two stars is because of the gentleman server with the ponytail. He's phenomenal even though he works in pretty tough conditions. This last time, he wasn't even our server but he made sure we had everything we needed because our server was pretty inattentive. Our server was the lady who runs the front and she wasn't very nice. The food: we've had all you can eat Korean BBQ and Sushi, I cannot speak on the hotpot. Korean BBQ: there's a limit of 4 meats at a time per table. The ribeye wasn't NOT ribeye. Aside from the spicy calamari and short ribs, everything was pretty lackluster. The salad bar included with the meal is also very sad. AYCE Sushi: nothing really to phone home about. You can get better sushi at a grocery store, to be honest. Regular Menu: the hibachi was okay at best. The appetizers seem like they're frozen and flash fried or boiled. Pretty flavorless. Before ordering anything when you're ordering the AYCE, make sure it's included, because they won't tell you and they just add it a la cart to your bill. Unspoken rules: you can either sit on one side and do AYCE BBQ or on the other side and do AYCE sushi, but you may order from the regular menu seated anywhere. So if half of your party wants AYCE sushi and the other half wants AYCE BBQ, you have to sit separately. Oh yeah, the 2 hour time limit, which is hard to do when you have a very large party because people are not only there to eat, but to visit as well. So another thing to consider. Every time we have been here, they have offered a first responder/military discount. However today, she informed me THEY NO LONGER OFFER ANY DISCOUNTS except senior discounts. Although it was a neat experience (reminded me of The Melting Pot), I felt mostly underwhelmed, particularly with the cost/value. The service was attentive, nevertheless. I think the draw for hot pot or Korean bbq is the "novelty" of cooking your food/immersing yourself into another culture. Aside from the salad bar, the food served was fresh. (The cakes on the bar were dry, stale and bland.) If I am cooking my own food, at least the food was prepped. We opted for Korean BBQ. It's all you can eat, but keep in mind that you pay by the pound for leftovers, so it's good to be strategic, since you already pay a price per person. I think it's definitely worth the experience, but the likelihood of me going regularly is slim. Nevertheless, I wish them the best of luck! read more

The restaurant is clean and there's usually not much of a wait time. However, the waitstaff isn't always that polite. Sometimes you have to flag a server down in order to be seated. But once you're at a table, things typically improve. The food quality is pretty good for the BBQ and hotpot. However, the appetizers leave a lot to be desired. The pricing was fair and I've only had the waiter cut us off at the 2 hour limit once. For the most part, the servers don't really enforce that rule. Which is a great thing!!! I wish there were more seafood options on the menu for the hot pot and that the broths were a bit more consistent across visits. Also, the wait staff were not familiar with hot to eat hot pot so we didn't get all of the utensils and it was just difficult trying to figure out what to do and how to do it! But it's pretty good and we've been 4 times so far. We pretty much only do the hot pot now bc the BBQ meat was not seasoned enough and there was no way to really make it better. read more

Giving this five stars because the other reviews are trash. This is a Japanese style buffet where in other places, there would be a conveyor belt that brings stuff around to pick from. This place doesn't have that so they do it to order. The more popular items like crab rangoons and lobster rolls will come out quick. Other things may take a while. So order multiple things at once. The calamari was not good but I'm not a huge fan anyways. The drinks took a while but were great. I definitely recommend the crab rangoons, the hibachi flounder, lobster rolls and shrimp sushi. The server kind of acted like he didn't want to be there but other than that, the place was great. No hot pot yet so we will be back to try that for sure. read more

I'm not a fan. This is all-you-can-eat but not buffet. On their appetizers they don't have anything that even resembles sashimi. I tried and was denied. I asked that they hold the fake crab and they did on one roll and not the other. I ordered the shrimp tempura which was fairly good and an order of calamari which I felt like was a fail. After traveling to both Las Vegas and Houston within the past 2 months and trying Korean BBQ in both places (Master Kim's 1 & 2 and Bon KBBQ), this place is right there with them in food quality and flavor. Came for the $33 hotpot, and the service was pretty disappointing. Since you can only order 3 items per person, with no limit on appetizers, food was delivered very slowly with long wait times. I guess it depends on the server, but we got stuck with someone who strictly enforced the ordering limit and wouldn't let us order more until all the food came out (even though it wouldn't come out all at once, and very slowly). Not only that, but they never give you the full portion for what you order. We'd order like 3 or 4 orders of a meat, and they would bring our 2 orders or less. Server also gave us attitude when we kept trying to order again whenever she passed by our table. Really felt like they were trying to nickle and dime us. Average wait time between orders was probably 15mins too. They did, however, have a pretty wide selection which was one of the good things they have going for them. Really liked the fish balls, beef tendon meatballs, and mini sausages. Sushi sucked like usual, and didn't get to try many of the other items due to time constraints and ordering limits. In terms of KBBQ it's lacking. Totally missing the banchan for the KBBQ. We got the $35 meat selection and Ordered the marinated skirt steak, ribeye steak, spicy pork bulgogi, pork belly, garlic shrimp, garlic butter mushrooms, asparagus, and teriyaki chicken. We orders the beef bulgogi too but it came out look a lot like pork than beef. They had a selection of AYCE sushi and slim pickin for the appetizers. There was also a cold bar that had some sauces, seaweed salad, squid salad, house salad, oranges, melon, and a few dessert. The marinade is on the sweet side. There is house sauce and spicy bbq sauce available on the table. Service was good. Drinks were refilled and we were checked on as needed. Taste wise it was okay. Good to ease someone that's never had KBBQ before, but if you're looking for a more authentic flavor and experience then you're better off making the drive to Gangnam in NOLA. Their hot pot seems promising BUT very minimal on the veggie selection. Oh! Side note: we inquired about doing both cooking styles and was informed it would be $5 additional per person. Baton Rouge sushi is so cursed..... I got 3 different rolls. The rice on all of them didn't taste like sushi rice, it was super flavorless. The salmon on my salmon cucumber roll tasted like it was cut with a knife that was just used to cut raw onions and not washed at all. It tasted and smelled like raw onions. I was so excited to try Baton Rouge's newest restaurant to offer traditional hot pot. Unfortunately, I can give only 2 stars at best. I have enjoyed Asian hot pot restaurants in several cities and states and this was disappointing from beginning to end. To begin, the menu does not provide specificity on their rules for the per person prices or how the hot pot process works. In addition, prices are not listed for a any la carte items, so unless you ask, you may have a surprise at the end of your meal when the check comes. The salad bar comes with all meals, but you wouldn't know this unless you asked or are told by the server. The salad bar was sparsely labeled to identify its offerings and many of items were visibly not fresh. Lettuce was pale and limp, Panko bread crumbs were stale, etc. The appetizers were unimpressive and are of buffet restaurant quality at best. Spring rolls and dumplings didn't have much flavor, were greasy, and room temperature. The hot pot tables and provided dinnerware were not ample or placed in the right positions to facilitate a clean, efficient tabletop cooking/dining experience. Additionally, other diners around us who were trying hot pot for the first time were asking their servers for instructions on how to cook and eat their selections and struggled as the servers were inexperienced themselves on hot pot dining, which was shocking as they work at a hot pot restaurant. This is located in the old Nagoya building. If you're driving too fast it's easy to miss the driveway. But my bf and I decided to stop here on Fathers Day because everywhere else had a long wait. We decided to do the $25 all you can eat sushi, hibachi and small plates. I my opinion that was the best value because I was able to order udon noodles, chicken and veggie teriyaki, 3 sushi rolls, and ice cream. I strongly recommend checking them out! This was the most unfriendly restaurant I've been to in a long time. I arrived at Volcano late to meet my friends, and from the moment I sat down the waiter was rude and impatient. I asked him, a teenage male, probably the owner's kid, if I could have a second to look at the menu. He said "sure" and then folded his arms waiting at the table. We were all shocked. He would not leave the table so that I could look at the menu without feeling rushed. I complained to him, gave him the menu back and called in an order at The Bay Leaf Indian Restaurant down the street. I waited with my friends for a few minutes while they finished eating and he kept coming back to ask if I was sure that I didn't want anything, but he knew that he had already upset the table, so he was only more annoying. He was really bizarre. They should teach him courtesy. I had been wanting to try that place, but that dude just complete ruined the experience. read more

Upon entering the restaurant, the tile floors had black dirt in the tile and grout. Thank goodness it didn't smell. $35 for the buffet, and $5 for a drink. No sashimi, only very small rolls. The salmon wasn't fresh at all. Their rule is three items can be ordered at a time. So get this, there was two of us, and we ordered three items each. I ate what I ordered, and tried to order three more. The waitress would not take the order until everything on the table was eaten. We got hot pot. We ordered the original and spicy broth. The original didn't have a lot of flavor but the spicy was delicious. It took a while for the boil to start. For meat we ordered beef belly, beef slice, pork belly, and lamb sliced. The meat was delicious, but it does come slightly frozen. For vegies we got lotus root, fried tofu, and chinese cabbage and they were not the freshest. For suishi, we got the california roll, rainbow roll, rock n roll, alaskan roll, and philadelphia roll. The rainbow and california rolls were delicious. The alaskan and philadelphia were ok, but I wouldn't get it again. From the salad bar we got the crab salad and squid salad, both of which tasted spoiled. I would not recommend the milk tea boba because the tapioca was hard and the flavor diluted with water. Overall, due to Volcano being the first kbbq and hot pot location in Baton Rouge, I would recommend giving it a try. The service was good. Our waiter visited our table frequently and was patient. Went try out volcano yesterday it was not to my standard for Korean bbq for the $35 per person you can go to gyu kaku in New Orleans for similar prices and extremely better service and food.
