IMHO, the people running this business are extortionists.
The fact that they are used by the State Police, and friendly with at least the Assistant Chief of the PD in Newbury/Newburyport(he was there in plain clothes when we picked up my niece's car after an accident on 95) is even more disgusting. As a former Military Policeman in the Army I expect more integrity from Law Enforcement. I wouldn't expect such honorable people to keep company with people who are so blatantly gouging the public. In this instance they let me down, and smudged their reputation in my eyes.
The driver, let's call him douchebag(my opinion, or Jerry if you prefer), told me on the phone he wanted $200 cash(no they would not accept a credit card, cuz who does these days, right?). He wanted this cash BEFORE he would drop my niece and her car at a friend's body shop(Sublime Restorations, a great body shop with a great proprietor, Julian). I told him that I was on my way and would stop at an ATM, could he just drive to the body shop and I would meet him there with cash? No(their website does say they take credit cards, but it must get in the way of extortion when customers are able to dispute unscrupulous charges)
Not only would he not drive to the body shop(7 miles away, who is a customer of his as previously mentioned, he lied to her and told her he didn't know of the body shop) he was leaving my niece(who is from Germany and not a native English speaker...AND was shaken up after just having been in her first accident) at a gas station in a city she is unfamiliar with IN HARMS WAY!
Needless to say this disgusting piece of filth douchebag(again, MHO) left her there, then drove back to his shop (which is further away, so of course he can charge for extra miles-Cha Ching!). Extortion at it's finest, did I mention disgusting?
Reprehensible, immoral behavior by someone entrusted with public safety!
My wife picked up my niece and rushed to douchebag's tow yard(they should really change the name to this, truth in advertising), where he promptly told her the cost was now $318!!!!
He would not allow my wife to pick up the car, which he had quickly locked up behind a fence to hold it hostage. I had to be present as the registered owner.
He then told her I wouldn't be allowed to drive the vehicle off the lot. I would need to find a tow truck driver to meet me there, and if I weren't there before 5 pm(about 4:40 at the time of the call), they were going to close and I'd be charged an additional day of storage. Did I mention reprehensible? Immoral? How about unethical?
Bear in mind he is charging us for a day's storage(it was there under an hour), lot charge, mileage, AND cleaning the bed of his frigging tow truck($75!). He drove 20 miles at most and extorted $318 from us.
He was irresponsible with my niece's vehicle, HE PUT MY NIECE IN PHYSICAL DANGER, and he stole money from us while capitalizing on a bad situation.
I truly hope that in the future the local and state police agencies see the harm this company causes and holds them accountable for this extortion.
I also hope Karma bites mr douchebag right in his doughy posterior. I will happily laugh at his misfortune.

Avoid this business at all costs!
Call Barrett's towing! That man dropped everything having never met me before, didn't ask how he'd get paid, picked up the car from douchebag's locked tow yard, and drove it straight to Sublime Restorations.
When I asked him how much $ he wanted, he told me not to worry, he could bill the body shop(novel idea, huh?) if we didn't have cash. Great guy, great driver, great business...unlike mr douchebag, or whatever his name is. read more
