I came to a birthday party here for my best friend and upon arrival with a small stroller the staff started rudely yelling at us that "NO CHILDREN ARE ALLOWED "! Came across this place walking down the street and their wine collection is truly amazing. Apparently you could bring your own food to enjoy with the wine which is such a nice touch. You can either order by glass or order a bottle for groups. They also have green wines which is not easy to find around here. Super disappointed with this venue. I came for a birthday event and wanted to buy three more bottles of wine to support, only to be hit with a ridiculous $10 corkage fee for each bottle. Why not just price the wine correctly instead of sneaking in hidden fees? So basically buy 3 pay 4. If you buy their bottles and choose to drink there, expect them to charge over their sticker price. This place clearly prioritizes profit over customer experience. Staff couldn't even elaborate on qualities/characteristics of the wine I chose. Just charged me extra instead. Love this little place in Little Italy! Came here on a surprise vacation from Pack Up & Go and they purchased tickets for to the Vino Vino Little Italy wine tour from So Diego Tours. We met our guide here to start our tour and he was very nice. There were 8 people in our group. We had 3 different wines - and these were not tasting pours (and there was no spit bucket)! Be prepared to drink on this tour! Vino Carta is a cute little shop with great service and knowledgeable staff. I even heard they have green wine?? I wish we'd been able to try that! He seemed to maybe try to help us but also didn't seem very engaged at all. Some attitude and lack of enthusiasm. We mentioned that the wine was for a wedding gift and was requested to have meaning. I specifically came to Vino Carta because they had a collar with Tuetano Taqueria (11/20/20) Parking - Street parking in Little Italy is always a pain, but is possible. I found parking closely. Wait Time - There was no wait time and we were helped quickly to find a pairing that would go well with the tacos. I like that they have a small outdoor area and provide glasses so I can relax and drink the wine and eat. They apparently have reservations for this small area, so if you're planning on going, call ahead! Wine - The wine was a good recommendation. It tasted like wine, however, the let down was the tacos. They did not live up to what I expected of Tuetano, a Michelin recommended taco stand. But again, that is for the tacos, not a reflection of Vino Carta. Little Italy can be a bit of a zoo at times. It's loud, crowded, and filled with some really expensive, extraordinarily mediocre Italian fare, but walk a couple blocks north of all the hustle and bustle, and you'll find a quaint little wine shop/bar, Vino Carta. We were flying into town for a few days and as part of my standard research, I look at all the self-proclaimed wine bars and restaurants, to see what they had on offer for both the BTG and bottle lists. What I found was largely uninspiring and overpriced, but then I stumbled upon Vino Carta and was blown away by their bottle selections online. They primarily focus on France, Italy, and the US, but have small sections for Spain, Portugal, Austria, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and probably a few other countries as well. They focus on small producers and interesting regions/varietals that are actually pretty hard to find in most wine shops. Savagnin from Jura? Blaufränkish from Austria? Silvaner from Germany? You'll find these, plus many interesting representations of varietals typical from the many regions they represent. They also have a killer selection of sparkling wines from all around the world. Whether you're looking for something typical of a region or something new, you're likely to find it here and if you're not sure what you're looking for or can't find it, the staff here are super knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable. They really make shopping for wine fun! (Shout out to Jamison for helping me out a couple of times!) Perhaps the best part of Vino Carta is that you can sit down and enjoy any bottle in the shop for just a $10 corkage fee. They also have several wines by the glass. I'm sure it can get quite lively later in the evenings, but when I visited in the early/mid-afternoons, I found it extremely quiet with plenty of seating. It was amazing to be able to get a little work done while enjoying some wine. I'm sure it's pretty challenging to keep inventory up-to-date, but it would be awesome to see real-time inventory by location on the website and also to have better filtering capabilities for searching by varietal, country, vintage, and/or region. read more

We were visiting San Diego and came across India Street full of bars and restaurants. We were in the mood for some wine and were able to get seated in about 30 minutes! It was their first weekend opening up again after COVID closure and the place was packed. Some people did make a reservation, but I noticed that most walk-ins were able to get seated within an hour. She narrowed down my selection to 4 bottles. Based on the 4 selections, I decided on Rioja Jequitiba (from Oliviere Riviere producer). Aged 12 months in oak barrels with 13.5% ABV. Loved it!! This a nice open spaced wine bar situated in the heart of Little Italy. I stopped in for some RR and a glass of red, and not being part of the plan, I even purchased a bottle of Malbec for $12. They offer a good selection of domestic an imported wines, such as the MDZ Malbec Mendoza Argentina. Of course you can enjoy wine there by the glass between $6 and $12. They do not make food here, but they do offer refrigerated cured meats and some cheese which you can buy and eat on the premise. You can also have food delivered or bring in your own. The place is quite comfortable and offer game boards and other gaming items, Jenga and Connect Four! You know you want ton play. The place also offer free Wi-Fi so if you just want to kick back, relax, and get some work done, while drinking a nice glass of wine like I did, well you can. Fresh and Fierce. Shop knows its stuff. Reasonably priced retail bottles can be popped while enjoying creative cuisine. I normally loathe 'creative' cuisine (pretentious foams etc) but these guys nail it. Elegant not pretentious. Flavors worked, portions worked, it all worked. They stock wines I can't seem to find anywhere else in SD and the seating is good for solos, dates and groups. Big fan. Do yourself a favor, go. And they had to really work hard to move within the constraints that the California state Governor imposed on businesses. Their pop-up food carts and tastings are always great.
