I was really disappointed today. My wife and I went here to get some more staple items. My wife wanted to try some clothing on. We went to the dressing room and the sales woman in said that we could go into dressing room 2. I politely waited outside in the hallway because my wife wanted me to see the clothes. A lady maybe in her 50s walked by me and gave a me a disgusting look. A minute later the sales woman came into the hallway and said sir you're not allowed to be in here. I said okay no problem. The customer was standing outside shaking her head and glared at me. I asked if she was okay or had a problem, she then said yes, now that you are out of there. It was embarrassing and honestly rude. All of this in front of others. I just stood there and waited for my wife to finish. We left and didn't purchase the clothes because I felt like I did something wrong when I hadn't. There was major bias and the employees should stick up for what's right. read more

I went to Von Maur for the first time at Perimeter Mall recently and I loved the experience! I'm not an old fogie, but the live classical piano music sucked me in! It was such a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. It created the mood of a lovely cocktail bar on a Thursday night. Right away someone offered to help me in the jewelry department. She made suggestions to go with the dress I was accessorizing for a wedding and even cleaned off the earings so I could try them on! Compared to my trip to Macys' the same day which had horrible piped in music, a skimpy selection, and a non-busy sales person who simply pointed when I asked her where I could find what I was looking for. Von Maur is a upscale department store based out of Davenport, Iowa. According to their website they currently have 32 stores in 15 states including 3 here in Georgia (North Point Mall in Alpharetta, Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody and Mall of Georgia in Buford.) The store is absolutely beautiful and super clean.There is an old world quality to the way the store feels with a person playing the piano and the style of the decor. In some ways I would imagine this is kind of store that Jackie O would of shopped in. I particular like how everything is nicely organized and even in the clearance area. The staff here are particularly nice and pay close attention to your needs. They will go out of their way to help you pick out an item or even tell you an item that you've chosen may look matronly.... The items that is sold here is of higher quality so the price tag reflects that...but with super nice and helpful sales associates to me it's all worth it. read more

I've been here many times. It's not as busy so not as crowded as other department stores like Macy's or Dillard's. The customer service here is EXCEPTIONAL. Shipping items and gift wrapping is free. An employee even informed me that you can buy Christmas gifts early and bring back the items with the receipts around holiday season and they'll gift wrap (with holiday wrapping paper) and ship them for free as well. How cool is that? Also their women's lounge is awesome. Very spacious and clean. The whole store itself is well maintained. The staff will go out of their way to help you find your size and order them if it's not available in that store. Needless to say, they're friendly and attentive when you need help. I typically don't like being bothered when I shop, so I plug in headphones. It bugs me when customer-hungry people come and repeatedly ask me if they can help hold the clothes I have picked out or remind me to check out with them. So far in my experience, Von Maur employees do not do this..which I'm so thankful for. I can shop in peace here. Overall, love this place. Staff is nice. Store is clean. I love Von Maur as a whole & shop at the North Point location frequently. I will say most employees were friendly, however, the women in the shoe department were AWFUL. My mom and I were trying on shoes, deciding if we liked them, etc. I decided on one pair and my mom decided against the two or three she tried. The woman helping me was off in another area, so I checked out with the woman behind the register--who also was hesitant to check me out--can I please BUY something?! Regardless, I purchased my shoes and trotted over to the home section...my mother and husband were still sitting in the shoe section. My shoes I did not purchase were left neatly stacked by where I was sitting. The woman who was helping me proceeds to say " why do these bitches/hoes try on all these shoes and don't buy nothing." --unbeknownst to her my husband is sitting right there. He's unsure of which word because all he was seeing was red. Regardless, if you work at a "high end" department store, you should have better customer service and not call customers derogatory names in front of other customers. I went into your store in Rochester purchase a suit for my daughters wedding Sept 15. I arrived a the store approximately 11am on Saturday the 12th of August. I walked in and immediately headed to the mens department. Two employees working. One woman at the register and none older man telling a customer that no one from alterations old be in this weekend. I looked around some more and headed to where the gentlemen was finishing up with a little chit chat. I waited patiently for his attention. Finally he looked over at me, stared saying nothing, and walked away. It was a thought II was invisible. I waited in shock for about 30 seconds and decided then and there Von Maur did not apparently need my business nor was I going to give them a sale. I walked out of the store and went to Joseph A Bank. Was immediately waited on and gladly spent $500 for a suit. Apparently the customer is either and annoyance or left to room alone, never to be asked by someone if they can help. I remember when I worked in retail and the companies I worked for stressed that I should be present on holidays if scheduled unless I was dying or giving birth. It was a rotation of who's due to work a holiday if everyone wasn't scheduled (i.e., I recollect Black Friday everyone worked split schedules starting Thanksgiving Day at 8 PM until overnight (some stores without time-and-a-half or double-time)) and this is one reason why in-store retail is doomed, the lack of ethics. In an army of turning men, Von Maur is one of the few last men standing. They're maintaining what some would describe as traditional American integrity and ethics with policies such as giving employees paid holidays as they know these are times PTO is rightful not a privilege. They respect the family time, and it's understandable due to the private company being family owned and operated. I adore this small yet growing chain for this and other reasons like its trendy styles, its affordability, and its cleanliness. Von Maur is the only department store I will enter, and there's a lounge plus it along with the restrooms are spick and span. The racks are always organized, the employees are (somewhat) friendly and longtime with the store, the mannequins are always displayed with fashion-forward clothing to help spark your ideas, and the divided departments makes sense. The pink, vintage-inspired fitting rooms are to die for too. Tradition is alive in this place. I absolutely respect and support this company. When I first walked in to the store, I was trying to figure out where the music was coming from. Me thinking it was store speakers, but to my amazement it was a gentlemen playing a piano in the middle of the store. The color scheme reminded me of Southern Floridaesque(is this a word?) While walking and looking around I noticed a simplicity to the store layout which my later conversation with a store employee confirmed my thoughts. The salesperson in the women's formal department explained the origin on the store(Mid West) and the concept of having a sales floor that you could view most of the items from any area of the store with ease; in addition, to providing a calming experience with less obstacles and peaceful music. If you are looking for that unique item that will stand the test of time then look around and you might find that gem here. Now on the flip side, I was looking for a belt to match a pair of A. Edmond(Brogues) so while I am looking around in the Men's department a different salesperson was approaching in my direction, saw me and was about to pass me up until I said, "Excuse me, I am looking for a particular belt. Could you be of assistance?" She turned and looked as if I was bothering her so I blew the gesture off and asked, "Do you have a brogue belt in a cognac color?" She looks through the belts while giving me a lesson on different types of belt and the treatment of leather products and while she is doing this I point to the belt of my choice. She proceeds to tell me, " Oh, you mean an embossed belt(condescending tone)." I replied politely, "No, I mean brogue...and provided her with the difference between embossed(raised pattern on leather versus brogue-perforations/serrations along the side of a belt). At this point she must have seen the expression on my face because she turned around and left as if she had something else to do. Needless to say I did not buy the belt. read more

I may update this review in the future, but as my first experience, I just wasn't impressed. The fashion world considers me to be plus size, I guess its because I'm tall and I'm thick, but what I saw in this stores Women's World was frumpy with a capital frump. Everything was floral printed and wide legged. That is not my style. I did find some good deals in the clearance room for shoes, but it was torn apart and of the 4 shoes that I picked up under the size 10 sign, only of them actually was. A pair of blue Cole Hann Nike Air pumps for $48 is as good of a deal as you are ever going to find, but alas, there was no one to assist me, so I put said shoe back after 5 minutes and went to find a ladies room. There are two, one right outside the children's department on the 3rd floor and the person that showed me to that one said the other women lounge is near handbags on the first floor. Nicest mall bathroom I have ever encountered, clean, spacious and smells nice. I did walk the entire store, there weren't any great prices in any other department than the above mentioned shoe clearance area. Took the place of Bloomingdale. I'm not sure if its a good replacement or not, but I could see myself going back for accessories and shoes. As I exited the store the pianist was playing, "I Did It My Way". We have been long term loyal customers. We relocated years ago and none of your stores are located within our state. Therefore, we have been relying on shipping of items purchased. Your current system of shoving as much product as possible into the smallest plastic bag you can find is completely unacceptable! I always thought your stores to be first class premium retailers... not Kohl's or Target. Clearly who ever is running your shipping operations needs a lesson on whom your clientele is. Ditto what Kathleen said about how this store strikes you- felt like I was shopping in some scene in "Heathers." And those piiiiink dressing rooms (and I love pink, but wowza)! I have to go to an event tonight that's an "all white winter" theme and I pretty much don't own anything white. Hence, the mall. Emily R and I had lunch near Perimeter Mall and she suggested Von Maur because they typically have a lot of sales and/or good prices in general- I mean, if you're gonna buy something you might expect to wear minimally, the last thing you want to do is spend much. I tried on a few dresses, and was fairly impressed at some of the labels they had that I usually see at the schmancier department stores and boutiques, including Trina Turk and Tahari. Prices were very good too and indeed there were sales racks with some good deals if you found the right thing. Unfortunately, most of what caught my eye was anything that wasn't white, so no dice. Pretty strong accessories collection, including purses - very large Coach collection if you like that- and while not as extensive or high end as Nordstrom's or Saks, this is not a bad spot if you're looking for that kind of gift item. I don't make it over here that often but a cruise through Von Maur will likely end up in my future mall visits. read more

Im a regular customer love this department store the variety is limited but very well put together. However, in my recent stop I realized that they were not taking Covid precautions no plexiglass at the register, not to mention your payment for credit card is right in front of the cashier. Masks are recommended only. I called and spoke to the store manager which her excuse or explanation for no plexiglass was since they help you shop or provide service than there was no point for plexiglass. Hum, yeah you can social distance if someone is helping you out verses being in front of each other checking out! Made no sense to me. RUN BILLY RUN! I know that there are people who love this store but for me, I just don't get it. When I walked into the store, I was instantly transported back in time to the 1950's with the dated decor and ambiance. The piano player while talented, chose a selection of music that was probably played during the Eisenhower inauguration. The place was so gloomy and boring that I just made it to the bag department and straight out again. It was very dead on this busy "Day after Christmas". and I suspect that Macy's had more people in their restrooms than Von Maur had in their entire store. During my walk through the store, I only noticed one employee on the entire floor which makes sense when you think about it! This store reminds me of the little fat kid who can never quite catch the school bus. Everyday you see him running up the hill (in slow motion), trying to catch the bus as tears stream down his cheeks. All of the cool kids are sitting in the back of the bus staring at Billy and enjoying his suffering instead of informing the bus driver. All you can do is simply shake your head and hope that Billy has a better day tomorrow. Secretly, you know better. When I go into a department store to shop, I want to feel welcomed and invited. For me, that begins with great energetic music of any genre and the presence of helpful employees. I don't want to see anything that reminds me of my dearly departed grandmother. I don't want to see HER clothes, HER furniture or HER accessories. I don't know what it is but every time I enter a Von Maur, I get that grandma vibe and that is just not cool. I understand that I need to accept the fact that this store is not "my store" and move on. Today, I choose to move on. read more

I'm a big fan of Von Maur because it reminds me of a bygone era of shopping. Yes- it is slightly overdone in the decorating, but honestly, I love it. I love the piano player. I love the fire places. I love the amazing bathrooms. Most of all- I LOVE the customer service. I have gone into Von Maur and purchased 1 pair of clearance earrings that cost $12 and was treated as though I just purchased a new Chanel handbag. You are treated with dignity, respect and professionalism. I enjoy the extra mile the employees go to make you feel appreciated and important. Here is my breakdown by departments: Jewelry- fantastic! They have a wonderful, varied inventory with everything from Betsy Johnson to Kate Spade to Marc Jacobs to Swarovski. They have a large clearance section with incredible deals. Accessories- yes, they have a huge accessory section unlike anything I've seen at other stores. They have a massive stock of socks, scarves, hats, umbrellas, hair goods, formal hats, gloves, glasses. Purses- wow! Selection!!!! They have a fantastic stock ranging from affordable Fossil to Chloe! Dresses- one of the best and year round dress section. I've always had luck finding dresses regardless of the occasion at this store. The ladies that work in this section are more than helpful and have a great eye. This section also has a great clearance area with awesome sale prices!! Kids/JRS- I don't shop this section but it seems to be the same size as other department stores. Mens- Wonderful suit/dressy section and selection in casual clothes. My husband loves the brand 'Penguin' and they always have a nice selection of it at this store. Ladies- I don't personally buy my clothing here but they have a nice selection. Shoes- epic! They have a great ladies shoe section with an awesome year round clearance room. Housewares/gift- yes, they actually still have one of those old school gifting sections. I've gotten some amazing and unique holiday decorations in this section! Lingerie- one of my favorite sections in the store. The selection and size range is incredibly impressive. The ladies that work in this section are so eager to help and are kind and just so wonderful! Gift wrap- ANYTHING you buy in the store they will gift wrap for FREE AND ship for FREE if you want to!!! Last Christmas I purchased several gifts from here had them wrapped for free and mailed to all my family members FOR FREE!! Seriously, this place rocks!! Not gonna lie, this store looks straight out of the late 80s/early 90s. Bright pink carpet, pot pourri in the "ladies lounge" and strictly single sex dressing rooms. Then they set up little vignettes throughout the store so you can see what that dress would look like with those shoes, and it's not in a way that I would ever put together. We're talking black shoes with a yellow dress, people. But you know what? Their inventory is cute. I found brands here that I hadn't seen elsewhere, and almost everything was well priced. I like this store. It is unique to Atlanta, not as popular (less foot traffic) and it has a nice family feel to it. The customer service is usually pretty solid. There is usually someone playing the piano on the 1st floor. Most department stores have done away with that but that is a nice feature and really sets the tone and atmosphere to want to stay and shop. They usually have a good sale here too. I immediately head for the shoes. There is a clearance rack and I have found some winners on it for as low as $50 for some nice shoes. Throughout the men's department there are "sale" racks. You have to dig just a bit to find something you like for a good price, but I usually always find something. It is just something about this store I like. It has a personal feel to it versus than the giant box department store on every corner. It is family owned and operated as well. I am sure that has a lot to do with it. If you have not been here, it is located on the backside of Perimeter Mall near Nordstrom's and Brooks Brothers. Go check it out but leave me a nice pair of shoes. Size 12. read more

Update: The sales ladies know my mother by name here. They remember what she was looking for and called to see how she enjoyed her purchase and then sent her a card thanking her for coming in. I have never encountered customer service like this anywhere else. If more sales people like them pointed me in the directions of the clearance rack, I'd probably spend more money. Tell me who is in charge of employee training, because they are doing an incredible job. I mean where else can I get checked out and them carefully fold my purchases and wrap them in tissue paper. It is a real treat shopping at this store. Next step is to drag my mom in for a bra fitting. Again, the sales people are amazing. Sales are great, and the merchandise isn't overly stodgy or trendy. I've been a customer and Von Maur credit card holder for 25-30 years. I've been a great customer who pays my bills. However, I know of two other people who have received 'nasty' letters in the past from Von Maur, after being long-time customers and card holders as well. Without a current running balance, I didn't have a monthly PMT to Von Maur from my bank and so relied on getting a statement. My statements were inadvertently switched to electronic and got lost in the midst of 1000 junk emails I hadn't yet had time to spam. When I saw a 'nasty' email about a missed payment, I called them immediately to let them know I was paying them immediately (a one-day transaction from my bank), and asked to be switched to paper statements due to bulk email. I asked them to please note my account of the situation and that the $50 PMT had been made. Then a couple weeks later, I received a yellow letter from Von Maur, threatening to report me to the credit bureaus! Lovely. Granted, the date on the threatening letter was mailed one day before I talked to them; but after being a customer for 25-30 years, really? Things happen every once in a while. But Von Maur does not care, period. I take my credit very seriously, and so will need to close my credit card with Von Maur. Shopping there after this? I don't know about that either. I would be careful doing business with companies like Von Maur that are eager to report you to credit bureaus, if you care about your credit rating. Mention credit bureaus to me, and I'm done doing business with you! read more

A few of us stumbled in here after a meet -- actually, the boys needed to find a place to relieve themselves. *Face palm* After 5-10 minutes, the boys returned and couldn't stop telling me how awesome and fancy the restrooms are lol. In their absence, I had entertained myself by checking out the store and found that I was in LOVE with so many pretty things! I found my perfect fitting pair of boots for my skinny legs, ironic because this season has been unusually warm. Oh Cole Haan, how I love your integrated Nike Air insoles that make me feel as if I'm walking on clouds. And there were lots of fun accessories to play with, like the derby-style hats and surprisingly nice UGG gloves. They carry a lot of higher end brands that most other department stores do not carry like one of my favorites -- Alexander McQueen. There weren't many other customers in the store, so whenever we walked by, an employee would come talk to us, ask if we needed anything, made jokes, and was just overall VERY informative and nice. read more

i have been coming to this von maur since they opened at this mall and this place has really gone downhill!! when they first opened up i felt this was a classy retail store with impeccable customer service but my last few visits not a single solitary employee uttered so much as one word to me!! i guess i'm invisible?? lol it certainly seems that way!! today i made a purchase and the associate in men's who i have never seen before in my life was about as friendly as a toilet seat.....seriously no smile, not the least bit friendly...simply told me the total amount, i inserted my card into the card reader. he then put my merchandise in a bag and handed me the receipt!! he didn't say " thank you" until after i said it!! unbelievable and totally unprofessional and unacceptable!! i guess they don't care about their customers anymore or want my money!! that's o.k. with me!! i can take my business elsewhere!! i've had better customer service at target and other lower end stores than this place!!!! read more

Beautiful department store. Clean bathrooms. Quality merchandise. Peaceful atmosphere with piano playing and classical music but terrible service. I went to look at a beautiful jacket to buy and the saleslady 5 feet from me followed me with her eyes and didn't offer to help. Did she think I was trying to steal or something?! When I looked her way she stared at me while she was pretending to shuffle through clothes on a rack. In another department, two sales ladies were chatting away and not acknowledging my existence or my interest in a dress. I was dressed handsomely and there was no reason for them to behave in such an arrogant way except for their xenophobia and racism. Will never shop there again. Take note....I rated Von Maur 5 stars. Von Maur is a great store. Lots of really cool clothes and things of that nature. They also have a live pianist. It is also a great place to work. Ah ha! I'm an employee. All of the part time/full time employees seem to be very happy. HOWEVER....I play piano at Von Maur and Von Maur pianists are classified as "extras" even though we clock in and out, work a schedule and receive a W2 form. As an extra, we are not given the benefits of vacation pay, holiday pay, bereavement pay, etc.To classify us differently is legal in Georgia (a "right to work" state). Legal, yes...but, ethical? Two weeks ago, my brother passed away. I was told by one manager that I would receive bereavement pay, but a few days later, when checking to see if I needed to fill out any paperwork I was told that only part time/ full time employees receive bereavement pay. We can all make our own conclusions as to the ethics of the situation, but I will leave you with this thought. I used to play piano at NORDSTROM until Nordstrom eliminated the piano music from their stores. While employed at Nordstrom, I was considered part time and thus had the benefits of vacation pay, holiday pay, and bereavement pay (both my mother and father passed away while I was employed at Nordstrom.
