I've been shopping at Von Maur for years. It's funny that people are asking for the Nordstrom comparisons to stop, because while they are indeed two very different stores - they were both founded on the philosophy of offering top tier customer service (not to mention both of the stores have old school piano players on staff). The no interest credit card is a big win. The biggest win is the store's selection. While most Von Maur's are often smaller in comparison to a typical department store, the quality and diverse nature of their stock is definitely something worth talking about. My favorite department: Shoes. Not only is there an amazing sale room, but they also have a unique selection that typically cannot be found at the other Chicagoland department stores. Every time I wear a pair of Von Maur semi-exclusive shoes, I get at least one person complement me & ask me where I found them. In fact, it happened again today. In case you are interested: DV, Style: Drake, Color: Black. (They are available online, although cheaper at VM, $80. I couldn't find them at any other dept store.) I definitely don't mind the 25 minute trek up north to Glenview to head up to The Glen shopping center where this VM is located. This particular store is two stories and has a great selection (if looking for an even bigger selection head out to the Yorktown store). read more

It's like stepping back in time every time I go here. Such a clean, classy looking store with quality products and friendly customer service. Now I'm not a rich man, so I can't afford half the stuff in here. (Or I should say, I can afford it, I just don't want to!) But keep an eye out for sale/clearance racks. For instance when my kids were small, my wife and I frequented the childrens clearance section, and as a result our kids were some of the best dressed kids in town! Of course as others have mentioned there is the free gift wrapping, which is a nice perk. It looks impressive when you buy a gift for someone and it comes professionally wrapped from Von Maur. They also have a very nice holiday department on the second floor with ornaments and such, like Marshall Field's used to have, if you are into that stuff. Writing this is long overdue. I have shopped here since it opened. Classy and well appointed, the selection of merchandise is tops. Several years ago I found my mother of the bride dress here, after shopping an assortment of places. As mother of the groom I went directly to the Glenview store, with daughter and daughter in law to be as my fashion consultants. Of course I found the right thing. And just as important, the bride to be found a fabulous dress for the rehearsal dinner. And if you want shoes, this stop is always first before I even think of checking the Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack. It is always worth a stop to see what the sale racks hold, as their markdown policy is wonderful. I have found items that are marked down at least once while still full price at other stores. No gimmicky sales, and advertising money wasted by this company. They adjust prices instead, which is greatly appreciated by customers. No discount store in some other location, you can find the bargains right here. If you do not see your size they will check their other stores, so you are saved the effort of running around. read more

The only reason that they lose a star is due to the limited selection. The customer service here is excellent. If you are a Tommy Bahama fan, they have a larger selection than most TB stores. Women have plenty of choices as well and actually have a larger selection overall in the store. My mom gets most of her clothes from here and we have bought several items over the years. Most recently my daughter bought a dress for homecoming. The biggest draw here is the ability to browse with plenty of room in between racks. Nothing is cluttered and there are limited sales racks. Everything is nicely layed out, making for a very pleasureble shopping experience. Unless you hit a big bargain on the sales racks, which are more frequent on the ladies side: you will pay retail for most items. read more

Love this place! I have a hard time shopping in messy stores because I have my own issues - and I love that this store is always so organized and put together. There's always an amazing selection of clothing and shoes for women. I try to stop in here every few weeks and my mom is literally here multiple times a week. The sales associates are so friendly and extremely helpful. They are there when you need them, but they definitely aren't annoying. Also, if you can't find something in your size, it can easily be ordered and shipped for free from another location if they have it. Tailoring and gift wrapping are also free! Just left Von Maur at the Glen of Glenview and will make it a point not to return. I shop for a new everyday purse once every couple of years and like to spend a bit of time looking ( since it will be on my shoulder daily ) . I was approached multiple times by the one sales woman in the purse department and asked if she could help me find anything. The third and final time she added " I'll be nearby" So embarrassed, I just left and won't be back She made it quite clear with her tone as well that she was watching me. It's a shame that the store must have such a problem with shoplifting that they have to harass a paying customer. Sad. read more

One of the best department store in the Northern Suburbs. Similar to Nordstrom in quality and layout. The sales people are professionals and the customer service is bar none - a live piano player, free gift wrapping, free alterations, a credit card with NO interest? Wow! Is this for real? At first I felt like I was walking an exclusive luxury hotel and security were going to kick me out any minute for violating the dress code but the staff are friendly and there is a great selection of products here. It is pricey and I only shop here when I feel I deserve to splurge but I always see a few sales racks on the floor as well. Von Maur's service is outstanding! My sister found her bridesmaid dress here and there was little bit of stitching that broke, probably due to someone trying it on. Von Maur is happy to have their in-house seamstress fix it at no additional cost. They also have great sales here! i love Von Maur, their no interest credit card, they are expensive and do not have coupons, but when something is on sale you can get it for as cheap as 6$ they have a wide selection of Kate spade, juicy, and coach, and they have sale racks filled stuff on sale. If they don't have something at their store they will call around till they find it and call you, they also have free gift wrapping!! they do not take discover card tho, but its better just to get their credit card read more

This is definitely my favorite place to shop in Glenview or anywhere near. Way better than Macy's and even Bloomingdales. I'd say it even beats Nordstrom (though not in the selection of shoes, though they do have GREAT shoes here). The service is always superb. Good deals are abundant. I came here for the first time yesterday and I thought it was great! Everyone I encountered seemed very nice and helpful. Not only that, but it was easy to find employees when needing to find something. It seemed pretty empty, which I definitely liked - not sure if it was because it was a weeknight or because it's always less crowded. Either way, I'd rather less of a crown than more. If I could give this business 10 stars I would. I have been coming here for the past 10 years and haven't fallen in love with another store since. I remember first walking into the store and being greeted by such kind people. None of the associates are pushy, and truly care about you and want you to have the best shopping experience. The ambiance of the store is classy and professional. They have a piano in the center of the store and have a pianist playing majority of the time. They have beautiful displays that promote some of their nicest merchandise and also have displays that tie in the history of Glenview. Their merchandise is top-notch. Everything from the makeup, to the shoes, to the bags, to the clothes is always great quality and in fashion. I am always satisfied with my purchases from there and most of my closet is from Von Maur. Not to mention their deals; they usually have great deals on designer brand items, and they're pretty hard to beat! The customer service is also great. Love love love this place. Besides the incredible shoe and children's clothing selection, customer service will wrap any present you buy there for free! The present looks classy, as it dons a gold VM sticker on front and beautiful array of wrapping paper to choose from. I'm always impressed when I shop there. I love the piano player and my kids love the huge airplane that hangs from the ceiling. The train table is also a huge hit with kids located between the kids shoes and clothing depts. The only reason I don't give it a full 5 stars is because it lacks a solid 30-something clothing selection. i love von maur. i usually don't pay full price anywhere when it comes to retail. and von maur's sale items are always well priced for purchase. customer service is good and at times short staffed. they carry almost all designer names. and keep on adding other designers. love the free gift wrapping, free s/h and interest free charge card with minimum payment(s). conveniently located at the glen (in glenview); plenty of parking and easy access. this place is always clean both the sales floor and bathroom. wish they carried more golf shoes selections. recommdeded!!! read more

Ok, this place is THE BOMB! Seriously look up department store and the very definition is Von Maur and here is why: Markdowns are every week, Tuesdays or Thursdays... They markdown their clothes until they are gone. Yes, everything will sell out of the store. That's right, from 20% - 75% off and greater. Nothing gets shipped out to some discount store. So hit the sales racks, watch stuff online as nothing stays around for longer than 3 weeks to a month before it gets the first markdown. Another perk for this department store, there is no "return by" date. Keep your receipt, bring it back whenever, unused, and you get a full refund. This was extremely helpful in buying for our boys and shopping the sale racks. We shopped "ahead" and put the clothing away until the season arrived. If at that time the item did not fit, we brought it back, sometimes months later, and received a full refund, no questions asked. Customer Service: Any and every store ought to learn a lesson or two on Customer Service from Von Maur. The sales people are helpful, pleasant and follow through. Yes, if you ask them to check on a size for you at another store and you are unable to wait, they will call you back. It is amazing how many high end, Nordstroms, Bloomingdale's etc. do not. And guess what? They will ship the item to you for FREE! UPS ground. That is insane. Who ships for free on anything, any amount? Yup, you got it! I cannot think of any.. Oh, and shop for a gift, get it wrapped for FREE and ship it for FREE! A deal nowadays. The quality and selection of their clothing is high end and that is great. I am tired of looking at cheaply made clothing. If you don't want to pay full price, stick around and wait for it to go on sale. No bellyachin' here as there is always plenty on the sales racks. The clearance shoe room is a chick magnet. You cannot go into the store without doing a walk through. I just bought a pair of Gentle Souls Break My Heart Sandals today (from Sales person, Chris A+) that are marked down from a $195 to $48.. Serious! Do a look up for these sandals, including the Gentle Souls website, and they are going for $145 - $195. This is just an example of the bargains to be had on very good quality products. And lastly, the Ladies Room/Lounge is palatial. I have breastfed and changed diapers for two boys in this area. Spotless, spacious, private. The diaper changing room, immaculate with complimentary wipes. My boys run to the family restroom. Very, clean and just their height. There is a trainset, tv and toys in the kids shoe area next to the kids clothing. My kids enjoy coming to this store. This concludes my review on this hidden gem. There is no clutter, everything is neatly organized (not in a shambles like other department stores), the live piano player is great, and the customer service is superb. I always went to Von Maur when visiting my daughter in Indiana. I missed them when she moved to Oklahoma but we are both thrilled that they are opening near her new home! I applied for a charge acct so I can use it when I visit her. I ordered shoes for my class reunion and love the fact that the shipping is free. They have great shoe sales. My favorite thing is the pianist, no crappy ,irritating music. I get a discount at Macy's, but in the long run, Von Maur is a better deal because there is no interest. This department store is awesome. We stopped here for some shopping while having a night out in The Glen. My husband picked up a nice new work shirt, and the woman who helped us was so friendly. She helped us choose a tie, and find sizes and even steamed the shirt for free...which was great because it saved me a trip to the cleaners! I got some things in the women's department, and we browsed the kids department too...great sales and unique things that you don't see everywhere. I ordered a perfume gift set online at vonmaur.com. The product description and picture stated what I was ordering. What I received was a different gift set, same brand but containing completely different items. When I called customer service to find out what had happened, I was rudely told that all the sets were like that, and if I "didn't like it', I could send it back, and when they received it they would start to process my refund. I was also told that I would be sent a prepaid shipping label, which of course I never got. So I guess they expected me to pay $10+ for return shipping.It's not my fault their product listing was wrong! Do not order from vonmaur.com! It's a scam! They advertise a product, and then send something else! I have shopped at many online retailers, and this was the worst customer service ever. I will never shop here again! read more

I love this store, yes it's comparable to Nordstrom's in that it has high end merchandise, and while the selection might not be as vast they carry some higher end brands that you just don't see many places...Big Star, Sledge, Johnny Was, Nic & Zoe, to name a few. I generally find that the items I find at Von Maur are fairly unique and more "one of a kind" They have an interest free credit card, no interest ever, no late payments - nobody does this. Their sales can not be beat, check the shoe room and the round racks in each department - round racks are sale racks and I have found some incredible deals of those racks - items that run in the $100's for $20 - $50 bucks. They ship anywhere in the US for free, and that includes items you buy online. And the purses...oh the purses! I got a $400 Kate Spade for $180. I have about $2000 worth of Coach bags that I have gotten for a collective $700 - $800 off the sale racks! People that have bad things to say about this store were either drunk when they were shopping there or walked in with a blindfold on! read more

A classic and fabulous department store. The selection is very well edited, no need to sort through racks and racks to find a fabulous item. They offer a range of price points and styles in all departments and their dress department is the best around, it's my first (and often only) stop when I need something special to wear. I've been shopping at Von Maur for ages now! I was heartbroken when Macy's replaced the beloved Marshall Fields. There was just so much elegance to Marshall Fields that lacks in Macy's. Yet, Von Maur has the elegance of Marshall Fields. I adore this store because it has so much to offer for all ages. I often buy shoes from here, but noticed that it could be either a hit or miss..they either have a wide range to choose from or not. Their make-up selection is superb and I particularly like their Laura Mercier counter. Their jewelry and handbags are quite good too. The prices are good too...nothing like shopping at Neimans where most bags will be in the thousands range. Another department I adore in this store is their baby section! I have shopped here numerous times for baby clothes for baby showers and always love what I find. Another plus to this store, and trust me there are many, is their holidays items! Upstairs, they have a holiday section and sell cute items for the home. I've bought many cute ornaments in the past. Literally, I have no complaints about this store! read more

The salesperson most pleasantly directed us to their facilities. They even had a Family restroom with children's toilets.
