I love discount retail shops and TJ Maxx sells a nice selection of everyday items at fairly reasonable prices. At times, their goods are deeply discounted. The parking lot is ample. Although aging in appearance, the store has a generous amount of square footage however the layout of the store is oddly designed. Aside from that, I found a lot of useful items at this location, and I plan to make this my prime shopping destination for the holidays. read more

This TJ Maxx is located off of McCormick, and I believe this particular TJ Maxx has the best selection of clothing - they have a larger stock of various designers, such as Frame! The place itself is a bit outdated, and the dressing rooms could benefit from a paint job. There's also a decent men's and home decor aisles, which were also items a plenty. Stopped here to purchase a few items. Was my first time and have to say it's certainly one of the larger TJ Maxx stores I've been in. After selecting several items, I went to the register for purchase and have to say I had the worst cashier experience I have had in recent member. Very cold, robotic transaction as if the person had somewhere better to be or someone better to speak with. The only question I was asked was "did you want to save 10%" A simple did you find everything would have been nice. My experience was so bad I actually made it to my car, turned around & returned my purchase before leaving. Didn't feel good about leaving my money there. Based on my experience, I can't say I'll ever return. One of those had to be there moments. I'd like to patronize the brick & mortar stores but would have been a better experience shopping online. read more

This is the best TJ Maxx I have been to, and to echo other Yelpers, I've been to a lot. I tip my hat to their buyers. This one is missing just ONE thing: men's shoes. If you need virtually anything else, this store will have it. I have bought Rag & Bone jeans here ($200 jeans) for $60. (The Runway section is amazeballs. It's better than the selection the last time I was at Mall of America's TJ Maxx). I have bought a fun variety of dog toys and treats and gift bag when my boss got the requisite Covid puppy. I get Christmas gifts and wrapping, underwear, a North Face jacket, cashmere sweaters, fancy nail polish, frames, candles, fragrance, hair products. I saw two or three Calvin Klein tops I'd seen at Nordstorm that I would have bought if they weren't dry clean only. If they'd carry Kiehls, I'd be set! Perhaps the best thing about this store is the active wear section. When I need yoga or running pants, I always check here first. They get good ones, not just the off-brands in weird colors or camouflage (though they have them too, if that's your jam). I found Spyder fleece-lined leggings for $20 in a perfect purple that are cozy for winter but not too hot. A seriously fantastic find! Man, I might go back later today! read more

This is actually one of the best TJ Maxx stores I've been to, and trust me I've been to a lot of TJ Maxx stores. It's quite large and has a wide variety of inventory. They even have Runway clothing, and even a few really high end purses like a $2000 St. Laurent bag! They also had a lot of kate spade, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Rebecca Minkoff bags to my surprise. I ended up getting a cute duffel bag from the bag section. I also saw a lot of clothing on clearance. I really liked this Diane von Furstenburg sweater for $70. read more

I've never experienced such an uncomfortable situation before like I did today. I'm not a person who complains and I always avoid conflict. I'm a very respectful and friendly customer to employees anywhere I go but today one employee got the worst out of me and I literally left CRYING!! I went to the dressing rooms in hope to try on some clothes. I waited for the employee assigned to the dressing rooms to give me an ok to go into a room as I usually do, because obviously if theres a person guarding then I cant just walk in there right? I stood there (closer to the women's rooms on the right, she was more towards the left side by the mens rooms) I patiently smiled at her and she stared at me but wasn't saying anything at all. She continued staring awkwardly at me and since she wasn't communicating I asked nicely ... "may I go into a room?" And she told me in a very aggressive tone "you have to come here" closer the left by the mens rooms where she was so I went around as there was a rack of clothes in the way. Whatever, I didn't take her rude tone personal I figured she just wanted to see how many pieces of clothing i was trying on. As I was walking up to her she began arguing and going off on me because apparently her - awkwardly staring at me and not saying absolutely anything - meant that I could just go in and people began staring because this woman was arguing at me so loudly and it really caught me off guard!! I don't know if she was having a bad day but she went on and on until I started to feel attacked and overwhelmed so I told her to just forget it and began walking away which made her more upset and she continued yelling. At this point I got so agitated and embarrassed that I told her if she didn't like her job she should not be there and i dropped the clothes i was gonna purchase. I never say things like that especially in public places but this woman had a problem against me for no absolute reason and she really pushed me. I genuinely don't understand why this happened, her attitude and behavior were VERY uncalled for. I don't know her name as everything happened so fast. Everytime I come here, I have no hassle in parking my car because they have a huge and free access to the parking lot. I took a photo so you can see how huge it was. I only came here yesterday to buy my little sister a Crabbie Sandbox. I decided to buy my little sister this because she loves playing outside. Since we have no sand in our front yard and are only full of grass I bought it and we filled it with white sand. It has a pricey price since it is durable and has a high quality plastic material. I chose the color pink since it's her favorite color. My little sister was happy when we surprised her in the front yard. Aside from that, since I found a beach dress I purchased it. I also bought slippers for the footwear section. It's comfortable to use while I am on a beach or while I'm in our garden. read more

absolutely hate this location and i wish I can give 0 stars. I called earlier to see if they have the hello kitty pet bed on hold, the lady said they did and I asked to put it on hold and she said okay yes what's my name. I gave her my name. she said it was going to be behind the register for me. mind you this location is far from me. 1 hour drive. I drive and came a few hours later to pick it up. and the associates told me they don't put anything on hold.. I called the manager and he didn't do anything for me at all and didn't seem to care. I drove an hour here for no reason wasting my gas and time getting here. TJmaxx needs to train their associates better if they are supposed to know not to put hello kitty stuff on hold and wasting a costumers time and gas to get here for absolutely no reason. I came here since my sister ask me to buy her a new dress. She can't come since she takes care of my new born niece. As expected there are lot of people when I enter. Its weekends yesterday so I came here since I have no works. There are so many people inside. I just take a look in every product they have in every selection. I'm in the towel selection. I bought 2 towels with a color of plain white. The fabric was really good so I decided to bought it. Aside from that I also bought kitchen utensils. I bought a new frying pan, spoon and fork and knife. I bought spoon and fork since it indicates that it is on sale. When I paid it to the counter the staff greeted me. She looks nice and friendly. Flagship location with an expansive area of clothing for men, women, shoes and an entire section devoted to housewares. If you love outlet shopping, it's worth a look. I love that I am able to find many decent pairs of Calvin Klein and Lucky brand jeans in my size. Not as many killer looking tops for dudes, in my opinion. However, their selections of dress shirts are decent. As far as undershirts go, I am crazy about CK and Ralph Lauren. The classic black tee from CK or the typical white tee from RL. Unluckily for me though, not as easy to find V-neck variety here for the larger male. read more

I've reviewed other TJ Maxx's before but this one only gets 2 stars (solely due to the amazing selection of products I've found over the years). As mentioned by several other yelpers, this store is the "flagship" and has been around for ages. The "minus three" goes towards the negative customer service experiences I've had. Products: This store does have a lot of really cool brand named items for less. My latest find is a Michael Kors cellphone wallet that was the exact same wallet as one I saw at Lord and Taylor a week before (for half the price). I've also seen plenty of other name brand items including Jonathan Adler stationary and even Lilly Pulitzer. Their product line is definitely what keeps me coming back. I would say TJ Maxx does have the better selection of name brand handbags among the "discount stores" but I've noticed that the best handbags would probably be at a boutique or department store like Nordstorm or Macy*s. It's not the same when you don't get the dustbag and packaging but TJ Maxx does have good prices (hence my MK wallet). They also have a pretty wide selection of men's, childrens, and home goods. I always manage to find something and I really like how their items are "themed" and "up-to-date" (having natutical themes in the summer and holiday items with respect to the holiday). Service: Here's where the positive aspect of this particular TJ Maxx ends. The staff hasn't been the best at customer service. I don't get the same experience that they care about what I am looking for. For example, at the TJ Maxx in Northbrook, this employee really related to me on a piece of jewelry I wanted to buy and I ended up buying a lot more because she was so nice, helpful, and genuinely cared about what I was looking for. She made suggestions and went above and beyond. At this TJ Maxx, I've gotten into polite disagreements with the staff about pricing and products. For example, I found a beautiful bowl I wanted to purchase but it had a little scratch on it that really turned me off. I asked if I could get a discount (so I could have the bowl polished elsewhere- and i'm thinking like 10% because that's reasonable) and the associate was completely dismissive. She pressured me into leaving my item and of course the bowl (which I would've happily purchased) is still on the shelf. I'm wondering if I misunderstood the mission of TJ Maxx. I thought it was a discount store. If this store is typical of the chain, it's sure not discount. I found the prices to be average department store prices. Not on a Nordstrom level, but maybe Kohl's. It is a large store, and it's possible that I missed some deals, since I didn't investigate each department thoroughly, but hey, all I can report on is my experience. I visited early on the day after Christmas. The employees ignored me. I'm used to some sort of acknowledgement, even "hello", but nothing. Okay. So they don't have greeters. That's fine. I like to walk around and explore a new place anyway. And boy, exploring this place takes some time. This is a big store. I chose to go to this outlet, instead of the northside Chicago locations, because I've driven down Golf Road many, many times, and seen the size of this place. I figured I'd get a better selection here. Online shopping would be a last resort, because I want to feel and see, with my own eyes, the items for which I'm plunking down my hard-earned $$. I don't make a big salary, so value is important to me. The front of the store seemed to be neat and well-organized. I was hoping to find some after-Christmas sales -- after all, what's the purpose of December 26th in the U.S., if not getting post-holiday sales? I saw none. Disappointing. The only area of the store that seemed messy was the housewares and food section. I'm assuming that the staff hadn't had the time to straighten it, after the craziness of the Christmas season. Everywhere else I looked was neat. My shopping goals that day were 1) a humidifier, and 2) one piece of carry-on luggage. I didn't see No. #1s, so I went to look at the luggage, and I did find something to purchase. It was a close thing, though. I'd been looking at the offerings on Groupon, and only, luckily, found something similar in size and price at TJ Maxx. I figured, why pay shipping? So I got the suitcase. Checkout was quick and easy. How things were at the store later in the day, who knows? Since my work schedule allows me to be out and about on weekdays, that's when I shop. No trouble parking, either. There's a big lot. Again, who knows what it's like on the weekend? I hope I never need to find out. A-Okay is the right rating for my experience. It wasn't a thrill-a-minute experience, nor was it awful. Decent and about average for what I expect, which really isn't bad at all. I used to work a mile west on Golf Road, so I would stop in here when I needed socks, underwear, t-shirts, etc. I was in the neighborhood a couple of days ago, so I stopped in looking for a few items. This location seems a BIT cleaner and better organized than others (then again I get confused between TJ Maxx and Marshall's but really what's the difference). I also get men's dress shirts here; it is uncanny how they always have exactly what I want--a white fitted shirt in size 16, 34/35. The brands vary, and honestly I don't care: sometimes it's DKNY, sometimes Calvin Klein, sometimes Arrow; this time it was some outfit called Valerio Garati, but it doesn't matter to me. I just need a cheap white dress shirt every 6-12 months to replace the last one that got dingy. Without fail, every time, they have one, which I actually find pretty amazing. I don't buy too many ties here. You can get them for 10-12 bucks, but the discounts and designers are better at a place such as Nordstrom Rack. There you will get a $50 tie for $14; here you will get a $20 tie for $10. And the selection usually sucks, although this time I did find a nice blue-and-purple patterned tie. One last note: They have separate lines for returns and purchases. Invariably there are just as many or more people making returns...but I'm going to put this one on the customers and not the store. But anyway, one line for each, one cashier per line, and this time there were five waiting in each line. That makes for a looooong wait. Come on TJ Maxx, throw some more cashiers up there. read more

It's a department store where you can get all the products you need and want. When I came here it seemed like I bought everything I needed. I grab one cart on the side of the area near the counter. It was easy to pull my cart because there were only a few people inside. I went to the kitchen tools area. I purchased one rice cooker since our old rice cooker was not functioning well. It took a minute before I chose a glass. In the end I bought a 6 glass wine and water glass. It was heavy and I like those. Then after that I also bought other things that I needed in my house. When Im done purchasing, I went to the counter to pay for my purchase. And I'm glad that there are only 1 person ahead of me before it's my turn. read more

See AKLIMA in the Jewelry Department for TOP-NOTCH SERVICE! I was shopping for a special birthday piece for my aunt and Aklima was the perfect person to help me. She answered all my questions, was patient with pulling out all the pieces I wanted to see and was cheerful and pleasant throughout my visit. She even helped a couple of others while I was deciding on which piece to buy. So happy with the customer service and the diamond necklace pendant I bought. Stopped there last week after not bothering for a couple of years. The Goodwill outlet in Evanston is better organized than this spot - and the inventory always seems as dug through as a table at a rummage sale. Also, be on the lookout for serious flaws in the merchandise - even the new/non-clearance stuff . You are more than likely to find tears, stains, missing buttons, broken zippers etc.... ... and as Kristen B. points out going through the obstacle course that is called "returns" is just more time consuming and aggravating than it's worth. TJ! i think this TJMaxx, according to my sister who is a crazed fanatic, is the best in the chicagoland (or near north suburb) area. you guys know the drill with these kind of stores. you come to shop for nothing that you're looking for. i found random velvet hangers, an umbrella (which was actually broken and i didn't end up buying it - CHECK your goods from there before you purchase!), a cool picture frame, and my favorite perfume (too embarrassed to tell you what i wear). my sister, of course, found a coach bag for $150. if you're willing to splurge, great. if you're not, you can get 18 hangers for $10. (p.s. 2 of the hangers were missing the actual hooks, which i didn't notice. like i said, check your goods!) the clothes selection was not very good. i couldn't find a thing to buy! the shoes weren't too bad either, just not up my alley. i didn't need a nude pair of heels or summer sandals. what did happen was, while i was shopping, i set my cart to the side. i went to the shoe aisle to try on shoes for 10 minutes and i came back and my cart was GONE! the sales people couldn't help bc they leave random carts all over the place. i had to go and re-find everything i got to replace what had been taken away from me. no big deal, but a bit of a pain. from that point on i watched my cart like a hawk. they always have great kitchen stuff and home goods. for whatever reason i really wanted decorative throw pillows, which were priced pretty decently, but i couldn't justify the spending. you'll also find a lot of filipino moms browsing the aisles, too. brings me back to when my mom dragged me there in the 80s & 90s. now i understand why. read more

Online Shoppers Beware I recently purchased some things from their online site. None of it turned well for me so I decided to return it to their store. I brought all the items with their tags intact and the package slip. But here's the kicker: Apparently you cannot return online orders without the plastic bag that each item is wrapped in. Now, this isn't something new to me because I do a lot of online shopping. And I know that those bags have a bar code that is scanned when returning items in-store. However, the package slip should be good enough to return online orders which is what I brought. The cashier that attended me told me flat out that she could not return my order because I did not bring the plastic bags that each item came in. A flat out NO is what she told me. Of course, I was not gonna budge because that is totally unacceptable. I had a receipt, that's more than enough. I read the back of that package slip. Nowhere on does it state that the items have to be returned in it's individual packaging. So the cashier called a manager over and he had to help her with my online return. I tried helping them figure out which item was what on the slip, and he told me that the tags on them didn't help at all. I explained to him that the directions for online returns do not state anything about bringing the bags each item comes in. And he told me that is a key piece of information that I should share with TJ Maxx customer service. Uhm, how and why is that something that I should do? I cannot be the first person to do an online return in-store, much less do it minus the packaging. That is something they should know and have figured out. That is not something you impose on a customer. So I waited for awhile while they figured it out and did my return. But they made me feel like I inconvenienced them. Now I don't expect nor want to be groveled at, but acknowledging an inconvenience that you have imposed upon a customer and an apology goes a VERY, very long way. And what I experienced firstly was attitude and a NO from the very beginning, and that is a major no-no in customer service. You always try to find a way to accommodate and help firstly before ruling out any and all options. Another thing that I noticed while I was there was how loud the cashiers were. They were acting out, cackling, and being really unprofessional in the front of the store. Employees hollering at one another from across the store. And the managers didn't seem to mind it at all, which I was pretty surprised by. Really poor customer service which is very disappointing, a big contrast to my previous visit there. The cashier couldn't have been nicer before. I'll definitely avoid this TJ Maxx from now on. read more

Nice clean store with friendly workers. HUGE kids/toys/housewares/linen selection. Not as huge of a selection of women's clothes as I'm use to at other TJ Maxx and Marshall's stores but still a good bit and I found a number of items. I like the new (I grew up around here but actually hadn't been here in a few years so not sure how new) runway area too. Though small, it had some very big name brands that were still pricey but at big discounts that would be well worth it if you found something you loved. Lines were managed well. My cashier got booted out of computer near the end of ringing me up so she had to take everything out and ring it up again but she was very friendly and polite without being obtrusive or overbearing and I didn't mind the extra time because she was so pleasant. read more

I hate shopping, so a store that makes the experience even worse is awful. This store is big, yes, but it is messy and cluttered. I cannot even force myself to walk down the narrow racks of women's clothes to try and sift through the thousands of items in each row. Yes, I have found cheap stuff here occasionally, but it is really not worth it to me. The kids' section is filled with weird clothes. I guess this is because T.J. Maxx is all about getting name brands at low prices. I am not really a name brand person (I don't want to be a walking billboard). Anyway, this store is a glorified thrift store so if you like spending hours browsing a bunch of crap, this is the place for you. read more

This is a HUGE TJ Maxx! It encompasses the entire strip mall with ample parking in front. And once you're in, it's packed with almost everything. And yes, you can get name brands at a fraction of the cost. You never know what you'll find here and my advice would be to take your time in this store. I usually get my electronics accessories from here, but I've also gotten pillows, bed sheets and other random household items from here with no issues. This just might be the perfect place for those white elephant parties or stocking stuffers for this holiday season. At least it is for me! read more

This store is not even worthy of one star. The customer service is the worst form both the managers and sales associates. I had two bad experiences with the manager Martin and a sales associate Mary. I was treated terribly they were not helpful or considerate all I received from Mary is eye rolls and being called out of my name and her manager Manager just stood by and watched and I over herd them laughing about it later. This staff/store is so disappointing. I will not step foot in any TJ maxx or Tj Maxx sister store(Marshalls or Homegoods) after my experiance with Martin and Mary. This store is huge! They have separate sections for home, women's clothes, men's clothes which seem to go on forever. It's bi-level, and the selections are varied enough that you'll see something you like every time you go in. I was impressed by their beauty section which included make-up, tools, cleansers, false lashes, nail polishes, and accessories. I'll figure out how to use some stuff and go back to get them there! The lines can move somewhat slowly, with the cashiers moving at their own pace. it's not terrible like some other places, but don't go on a lunch break if you have to be clock in at a certain time.
