The man who is the manager was so rude to me and my sister, he escorted us out saying they had closed when they were open, we were let in to buy a birthday cake mix for our grandma that was all we wanted but he handled the situation very aggressively considering the store was open and we only needed one item. May i add that we were led into the store by an employe saying that they were closing soon but we're still open for business. The manager talked to us as if we were common criminals, I could see a glimpse of other shoppers grabbing last minute items with carts and baskets, the bias against us was upsetting. read more

I come in here frequently as I have always been a loyal Von's shopper. It is a large store that has been remodeled. Very rarely are there any more than one maybe 2 registers open. They always encourage you to do self check out. No thank you!! As often as I stop in the ladies at the register never seem to acknowledge you as a repeat customer and I find that unacceptable. I can tell they do not do a ton of customer volume. It seems to be more for convenience and prices are better than Ralphs down the street. I have never cared for their produce no matter what day I go. It just seems "old". The deli section is good because they make sandwiches to order. They also have $5.00 Friday where you can get some good deals. I wish this was a Pavillions but alas I will still trudge here nevertheless. read more

Today was the BIG grand re-opening of this store. I thought it was going to be spectacular inside. The outside looks really good but inside? Well, it is a grocery store. I don't think it is better than the Ralphs across the way. On Thanksgiving day, me and my family decided to share a meal with the homeless folks in the park. I went to see Rhea, the deli manager at Vons, and ordered a ton of fried chicken. She was amazing! I walked in for the first batch and she sold me all the chicken she had cooked. She was so friendly and helpful that I went back to the store 2 more times to order more chicken. Our guests at the park kept coming and coming so thanks to Rhea and her team at Vons we were able to feed them hot and fresh chicken for Thanksgiving! Their premium ice cream is a nice treat, and since no one else has it and the flavors they hold like the Chocolate Covered Strawberry, and the Cherry Cheesecake...the exclusivity of these are a smart move on their marketing department, kudos to you! This place has always been terrible, but i didn't think it could get worse. Sat and waited for somebody to help in the meat area for 15 minutes only to take home four lobster tails that had gone bad already. They will never get it figured out there. read more

I will likely never shop at a Vons ever again, first of all there's so many other options in the area, but I was just passing by and wanted to get some thing really quick. I recently got on EBT to help with my financial situation, I work five days a week and I work very hard, I just need a little bit of help and that's when I applied.That shouldn't be anyone's business but my own, right? Apparently not to the young gentleman working the self check out with the short blond hair and blue eyes, early 20s. Obviously using EBT is not something I want to broadcast, but this gentleman decided to go out on the loudspeaker and announce that I was using an EBT card to the entire store! Something out of my nightmares. Not to mention after his announcement I heard laughter in a further aisle that made my self-confidence feel even worse. The systems were down and apparently the entire store only excepted credit card or cash. So then I go to try to pay with my visa debit as a credit card, and they said credit cards only. Do you think I want to put my groceries on a credit card? Myself along with many other Americans are in debt due to a global pandemic! I even overheard them saying you could pull cash from the ATM for a five dollar service fee! I was shocked humiliated, and disgusted. Never again will I shop at Vons. read more

Recently I purchased ground turkey from here that was 3 weeks expired. Not 3 days - weeks! My fault for not checking but I was preparing it that evening and in a hurry so I didn't think to look. I picked it from the top which means it was rotated there without them checking dates. Future customers, please double check expiration dates when purchasing from this location. read more

I really hate coming here; there's not really a reason to unless Vons carries something that the other grocery stores don't. Honestly, I only made a trip here because I was looking for soft drinks. The employees aren't happy, the savings aren't great, and the other customers are rude. The elderly couple behind me in line started pushing my cart forward before I had even paid, so I was blocked from the register. The savings aren't great, and at least to me not worth the negativity I feel like I have to wash off myself after going here. read more

OMG! Last night my wife and I went to Vons. We walked in the door and then up the far left isle. We then turned right and made it about 30 feet when we decided to park the Cart and go to Ralphs. The Vons on 17th street is a mess. The store it dirty, old and did I mention that it is dirty. Very sad because as we walked out the door we saw that the parking lot was empty, when we arrived at Ralphs we could not find a parking spot. Vons needs to go! please tear it down and build homes! read more

Just wanted to mention that this particular Vons has an excellent meat department. The service is great and they seem to have better cuts and a nice selection of lamb. Other Vons locations are pretty unimpressive and leave much to be desired both in the quality of the meat as well as the service delivered. This is not the case at this location, which must be attributed to better management. read more

For convenience they get 5 stars. I shop here quite often, and they are always friendly, (I really like Heather). My 2 big frustrations are that more than I can count I've picked up items that have expired! One was over a week expired. I guess my bad for forgetting to check, but I've never really had that issue with a grocery store before. What's up woth that? Second, I HATE hate HATE self check out. Of course, I usually am buying alcohol as well so I don't even qualify for it now. One time I was waiting in line and the self check out person grabbed my groceries and walked me over to self check and proceeded to check me out. I get she was "helping" but it was weird. I recently had to return spoiled meat, which in turn spoiled my BBQ and really embarrassed me. So check the dates because they dont seem to be on top of it there! read more

I have always liked Vons over other grocery stores. This store seems to always have very friendly workers whether I'm coming in at 5:30 am or 9:30pm. They are always helpful and seem to work well together as a staff. The Ralphs down the street from here is closer to my home, but their customer service lacks compared to this Vons location :) And definitely try their peanut butter Chocolate chunk fresh made cookies from their bakery! I'm not a cookie fan but I ate that pack in 5 days! Not proud of that, but gosh were they delicious! read more

The Food in the Deli is good but the service isn't that great. They have a cash register there but they never seem to be able to use it. And they eliminated the self-checkout so it's a pain to jump in for a quick meal. read more

I just bought a home in Newport Beach so it was my first visit into this Vons store. It was approximately 6:15p on Saturday, Oct 10th. I was unaware of their rules and didn't see the sign that read: stay behind this line until called. People in front of me walked up to peak up isles 1, 2 and 4 that were open to see if any were free. None of the cashiers called out or came out to call the next person in line so I just assumed I had to walk to the isles that were open to see if they were free or not. The cashier in Isle 2 seen me while he was taking care of a customer. I was at least 10 feet from him and his customer. He told me that I needed to go back behind the sign and stay there until he called me. I felt I was being reprimanded and I was embarrassed. I responded that I was new to this store and didn't see the sign. When the cashier in isle 1 became available I proceeded to walk up to the cashier. The cashier in isle 1 didn't say a word. She worked as though she was a robot with no interaction or customer service at all. I understand COVID has changed the way we do business but there is no reason employees can't try to act like they enjoy their job or acknowledge a customer's existence. It's unacceptable and rude. I will never go to this Von's store again even if it means I have to drive across town. read more

So i was at this Vons before the remodeled and what an improvement!!! What i like about this store is that you can catch the sales with you're club card & snip the coupons from the store add and use the manufactures coupon too if you can get it from the Sunday paper. point is by the time you use these things you can get a pretty good amount of savings on your grocery bill and who doesn't like saving money??? i spent somewhere around $56 dollars and saved like $19 cant beat that and still bought the things i wanted. read more

This store is pretty awesome! It's really convenient and has nice produce, frozen stuff, toiletries, vitamins, pet stuff, baby stuff, gifts! Even random "gluten free" stuff if you're into that. It really has a great amount of high quality stuff. The downside is sometimes it's a little pricey. Usually I'm happy as hell while I'm shopping the huge selection, and then sad once I realize how much money I'm about to spend. It's not ridiculous but it's on the edge between average and expensive I guess. The self check-out is actually nice. I like stores that allow me to be antisocial. Stuff can go wrong in the self check-out, but they are really on it and will come help. The only con is that you need a Vons card. Get one if you shop there regularly or it's not worth it read more

There isn't much to say, it's a decent grocery store...except if you go after 8 pm. Apparently they don't want to open more than two registers at at time at night, even of that means having people wait for 25 minutes. This is happened several times, it's a little frustrating. read more

I am a long time Vons shopper and this Vons is terrible. There are maybe 2 checkers in the whole store that are helpful and customer service oriented. Several months ago I bought lunch meat from there only to get it home & find it was expired. Went back and found over half of what they had on the shelf from a particular brand was expired. When I told this to the manager she was incredibly rude and just told me to go exchange it w/the checker. Not even a word to anyone about pulling the rest of the expired meat. Luckily the checker asked a bagger to do so. Often when I'm in there the self check out stations are all down, and today they had 1 checker in Express for about 5 people, 4 of which had full carts or 15+ items. I had TWO items and when the manager came to open another register he took one of the people with a full cart. The bagger was MIA at first, the checker reprimanded him in front of the customers for that, and then he forgot to put one of someone's bag in their cart, so again she reprimanded him in front of us. This store is a mess, and management is terrible. I will never shop here again. Sprouts is MUCH better - organized and no expired goods on the shelf!! read more

This is my favorite "mainstream" grocery store in Costa Mesa. The meat department has excellent meats and fish and helpful, friendly staff. I like the freshness and quality in the bakery department. The shelves are usually well-stocked and, if something is missing, staff offers to check the back. The store has excellent fresh produce, although sometimes a little more pricey than Sprouts. I like the $5 Fridays and the Just for You program. The floral department is excellent. The deli section has good variety and excellent quality. Service in the deli is, however, the reason for 4 rather than 5 stars. Frequently, there is no attendant in sight even at what should be peak times around lunch and dinner times. Once I find someone to help me the person is helpful and friendly. Checkers are usually friendly and helpful and there is an offer to help me load purchases into my car. read more
