This Vons is close to our home so we go here pretty often. It was renovated 2 or 3 years ago and is all snazzy inside, wearing the new Vons livery. It's in a medium sized strip mall near the corner of 25th & Western, right next to and across the street from the military housing complexes, and you can access it from both streets. This Vons has pretty much everything you could ask for in a grocery store, but the prices can be a little high unless you are a Vons club member (free to join). The pharmacy here is excellent - you can tell that they know most of their patients personally and they always go above and beyond to take care of you. There is also a Starbucks and a Wells Fargo ATM inside. I took one star off because this Vons tends to have a fair amount of solicitors outside and, more recently, some rather aggressive panhandlers. The younger ones walk up behind you as you are going to your car and then ask for money when you are isolated out in the parking lot. Because of this, my wife does not go there alone at night anymore. Even though this is the "nice" part of San Pedro, there has definitely been a more pronounced shady/criminal element in town the past few months, so just be on your toes. read more

I'm so incredibly disappointed. Here we are in a pandemic that is hospitalizing and killing a record number of people every day, yet the staff at this grocery store don't take basic masking seriously. The man handling fresh foods, slicing meat and cheese in the deli department is wearing a mask but only covering his mouth and with his nose fully exposed. I repeat, this is someone that is handling unpackaged fresh foods! Then again, at checkout, one of the cashiers was doing the same thing with his mask but even worse his mask was barely even covering his mouth. When I asked him to cover up he took offense and asked another cashier to take care of me. COVID-19 is serious! If this grocery store won't take this virus seriously then I'll take my business elsewhere. I strongly suggest that if you value your health then you should do the same. Let's give them a clear message that their irresponsible behavior is NOT ACCEPTABLE. read more

This Vons is located near my house by the intersection of 25th and Western and anchors a very nice retail center. Selection is pretty good, I'll break it down: Meats, very good selection of moo moo but they do need to increase their selection of turkey and ground turkey items. People want that stuff! Produce, I think Vons has always been good at this, pricing is average but you can troll their app to find deals on produce, I score all the time doing that and my roommates and I sorta plan our group meals for the week based on what is on sale. Fish, ....mer :( Vons u can do better at this. Staff is great no complaints there, overall this place is solid for your grocery shopping, do it. read more

As far as the "ghetto and nice" review, it's true to a certain point. The biggest thing this Vons has over the other is the selection. I come here to buy potstickers and nice orchids and I just can't do that at the one on 13th. The other thing the "nice" Vons has is lack of lines. I'm in and out here. The other never has enough checkers and the lines are ridiculously long. If I'm going to be paying much more for groceries, at least get me out of line quickly! Speaking of paying more, Vons is so ridiculously high I can't see how people do the majority of their shopping here. And that's just the groceries, I can't even bring myself down the cosmetics or drugstore aisles. I think Vons and I must separate. And I'm really blue about it too because this store is in a very convenient location for me. For the last year - perhaps more - I've noticed such a profound change in the aspects that I find important: customer service, friendliness, freshness of produce, time spent waiting in line, and ease of moving a cart through the aisles. All these areas have declined. I don't usually shop at Smart and Final (across the street), but I'll have to give it a go. Often, to avoid Vons, I shop at Sprouts and Trader Joe's; but there are items only a regular market carries so I often end up here.......at this horrible Vons. I think I'll apply for a Ralphs card. Today, without enough lanes open, with three people ahead of me, I spent 25 minutes in line. I don't know about you, but if I'd have known I'd lose half an hour trying to check out I'd have skipped the store. (There have been longer waits, but this is today's story). The cashier was slow and slower, her movements desultory and bored. There was no bagger. Somewhere into my wait she moaned about how tired she was. I nearly wanted to punch her and I'm not usually violent. Tired would be working outside as a gardener - or a janitor - or any number of the jobs that require genuine exertion. She - on the other hand - could barely manage to move a product over the scanner. Obviously, she hated her work. And I hated being there watching her hate her work. Even if I do go back, I'll be sure never, ever, to choose her lane. Sadly, I have a prescription at this pharmacy (and it's bad too!!) but going once every few months as opposed to twice a week might save my soul from stress aggression. I wanted to compliment this Vons because I'm never in the area and yet still this one time was able to receive excellent service. First, great selection of food to choose from. Also, very helpful that you have staff assisting the line. Lastly, the two guys assisting me at the cash register with ringing me up and bagging were very patient and courteous, as I had to run through some gift cards due to my unemployment and poor state, lol. Another one of the guys bagging also was quick to pick up the rack of bags after I accidentally pushed it down. I always try to recognize good service, and this was definitely it. read more

STORE IS OPEN TILL 2AM AS OFF A YEAR AGO!!! Thank the lord!!! I love the shop away to avoid lines and for the longest yelp said it was only open until 12 until tonight I found out that in fact they are open till 2 AM every day. Apparently when Albertson's opened about a year ago they wanted to make sure they were more competitive with hours. Anyway, they get a 5 star because it's literally the only grocery store in San Pedro that's open till 2 AM..... That I know of lol. Ps. Came today around 11 am to do an Instacart order. It was pretty easy and very little items so I headed to the express checkout lane. My cashier was Henry and boy does he need to learn some manners. Very poor customer service and doesn't know how to talk to people. As he finished scanning my items he told me to put in a phone number and I said I didn't have one. Usually grocery stores just proceed with the checkout process but he kept telling me to put one in and I said no I don't have one with the store. He then looked at my boyfriend and raised his voice for us to put in a number. He said "put in a number any number I don't care. Do you want your discount or not??" We both looked at him like wtf and said it was an Instacart order. He told us to put in the number they use for Instacart orders so I put it what he told me. Really don't appreciate his tone. read more

He massages the cookie dough like Bill Cosby, a master at his craft he blesses every cookie with grace almost as if he were high on Marijuana. On top of baking the most wonderful bread, he will offer complete and sound gym advice that would make Ronnie Coleman envy at his eternal glory. I was impressed with this Vons from the moment I walked through the door. Actually, before....in the parking lot where the lanes were large enough to maneuver easily, and there were plenty of spaces. The fact that this store is just up the hill from the ocean is nice, too, especially on a balmy day with a light dusting of ocean mist. This Vons shares a plaza with Think Cafe, a branch of Malaga Bank, a ladies clothing store that had jackets on sale for 15 bucks, a nice little Mexican restaurant.....hell I was in heaven. So as I entered the immaculately clean store I was greeted by a smiling employee who was putting out samples of chocolate candies. And she didn't care how many I ate. Score! Next I got what I needed: cat food on sale, paper bowls I use to feed my cat, also on sale! And food storage bags, to wrap up the leftover cat food that the picky donkey won't finish. I bought so much cat food (because the sale price was so good) that two ladies in the cat food aisle asked me how many cats I have. Uh......just one. But I do also feed some hungry ferals. So I ended up in a conversation with the cat ladies, haha. That was inevitable. And the two did not know each other before today, btw. One of them was an older lady who was a true Cat Lady. The other was just a gal who is kind enough to feed some cats in her yard, ones that her former neighbors abandoned when they recently lost their home to foreclosure. Then another neighbor also lost their house, and two more newly homeless cats joined the group. Then a kitten appeared, so now there are five. And then the lady began to cry as she said she'd just lost her job. She'd worked at a grocery (not Vons) for 11 years and just was let go. She left with a big bag of Meow Mix for her cats, though, bless her heart. I got more smiles at the checkout, and the bagger listened to me when I asked that she handle my cans of cat food with care so they wouldn't get all dented. I hate when my cans get all manhandled and are crushed by the time I get them home. But not today! Thanks Vons store #2162, great service is always a joy. read more

I like this Vons, within the last few years it was remodeled. The footprint is big enough and they have all the essentials. The staff is all friendly, I'm always asking where things are, and they happily show me. The produce is fresh, the meat section is bountiful, the bakery is scrumptious, and their beer selection is accomplished. I also like their sandwich and sushi section, plus they have a walk up soup counter which is good on a cold day. Other side benefits include a Wells Fargo ATM, a flower department, and a Starbucks. Side note, they make their own guacamole and chips, which are REALLY GOOD. My only gripe is that parking can sometimes be tough. read more

My last two visits to this Vons have been complete fails. During much of the day, the parking is close to impossible and the lines are too long with too few checkstands open. Yesterday, I had 5 items and had to just set them down and walk out. There were only two checkstands open and about ten people in each line curving down the aisles. My other complaint is that they often run out of popular items, such as Peet's French Roast coffee. Otherwise, it's a nice store, usually well-stocked, and the staff is mostly friendly, helpful, and efficient. But none of that matters when the parking and waits are intolerable. I used to love this store, but after the nearby Albertson's closed, Vons did NOTHING to help absorb the increased traffic. read more

This is one of two Von's in San Pedro and most will tell you this one is better. It's a nice enough grocery store but I tend to find more of what I'm looking for at Ralph's. Also the employees are hit or miss. Most are quite nice and helpful but there's always one, not so much. Example, I love that there's a Starbucks here. Me- here's my Starbucks card. Clerk- oh you can't use that. Me- 'Really? Are you sure?' Clerk- 'sorry it's because we're in a Von's.' I stop here almost every Monday. Guess what? The following Monday I used my Starbucks card, as usual. I even asked about it, of course you can use your card. The girl before probably didn't want to do two transactions, I'm assuming. Not sure why since at 6am it isn't exactly swamped with people. It is clean though, in a little mini mall and sometimes the parking can get scarce.! read more

Recently, I needed a cake to celebrate a gender reveal party. I was referred to Vons on 25th and to speak specifically to Christina in the bakery. Although I dread going into that Vons because of their poor management, I decided to give the bakery a try. Wow was I surprised !! Christina was the epitome of professionalism. She listened intently and gave me great ideas. The result was an outstanding product that was the hit of the party. PROS : friendly employees (at least the ones we've encountered!) well stocked, clean store CONS : smallish store compared to the one at Torrance Crossroads prices are higher than other stores OVERALL : I prefer this Vons to the one on Gaffey, mostly because of the area. I don't have to worry so much about sketchy people milling about. FYI it's worth it to sign up for a Vons card for the personalized deals and coupons. I have the app on my phone and it's super easy to load our card up with coupons and then pick up the things we need. It's much better than clipping coupons! ;) read more

Although there are usually 4-5 employees in the pharmacy at any given time, only one is helping customers so the line can get pretty long. I have waited in line as long as 10 minutes. Tip: When your doctor sends in a prescription, call and tell them you are on your way. Otherwise you will have to wait 20 minutes for them to fill it. read more

I like to be able to put 0 star. I went there this evening I choose not to wear a mask. a manager named Sean harassed and bullied me to no end. He looks about 25 years old I'm almost 70. I hope his mommy is very proud of him that hes abusive to older women. It seemed like he liked drawing all that attention to himself from other customers inside the store. I told him you told me about the mask I'm on my way out you don't need to keep bullying me. But he raised his voice it seemed like he wanted the attention. Far superior to the Vons on Gaffey/13th. In my experience, this Vons is always clean, organized, and I've never been stuck in a long line with very few registers open. I also tried their grocery delivery service and was very pleased. The driver called in advance to ask if he could deliver my order early and was very polite and respectful in my home. This vons i would say is one of the friendliest groceries stores I've been too. A big variety of produce, vegetables and fruits are always fresh. All isle i came across where well kept. Also was offered help countless of times very friendly staff. Do yourself a favor and stop by the Deli and get some Habanero Chicken it is delicious. read more

I am switching from Vons to Ralph's because Vons has made getting the sales price on items ridiculous. It use to be that you would enter your phone number at checkout and automatically get the sales price for whatever you purchased that is on sale. Now when you see something on sale you want you have to open up your Vons app on your phone, search for the item you wish to purchase and add it to your list. Then you get the discount when you enter your phone number at checkout. The teller apologized for it, she said she hated how much it slows everything down. read more

Worst place to shop if you're Hispanic. I had to do a transaction at the customer service desk, initially there was no one there, which was okay because I had to fill out a form. About 3 minutes after, the manager stepped out and asked what we needed help with and I told her. I handed her the form and my I.D., and she did what she had to do on the computer. She hands me back my I.D and as we were about to finish the transaction she says, "did you give me my pen back?", and I said "no, I used my own pen". She stares at me and says, "well I need to see your I.D again then." I gave it to her, she holds it up and says, "okay now take your glasses off", really?! I said "Do I not look like the person in the picture???" And she says "you look darker". I was so embarrassed because there were other clients around listening. BAD SERVICE!!! read more
