Long lines most of the time &usually out of sales items within a couple days after the ad comes out.

I live within walking distance of 2 markets (Albertson's and Vons) and I always choose Vons. This one has been remodeled twice since I have lived in the area, and it's always improved. I love the layout. Dairy and produce is in one area quite close to the front, the fresh meat counter is next to the packaged meat cold case, so it's very convenient. I think they also have a better quality of fresh seafood and poultry, and I buy a lot more of it with a Vons guy standing behind the counter who can get me the best cut of Salmon or Pork. I'm crazy for their wine section, because it's so moody. It's like a wine cellar. The light isn't blinding, and the shelves are lite with those halogen art lights, so it looks very appealing. There is of course a Starbucks, as well as a deli sandwich counter (which sadly never seems to have anyone stationed at it). This is also one of the safest parking lots in San Pedro. I don't feel like I'm trapped in a sick game of bumper cars or the demolition derby. I have no idea who planned the lots in this town, but they are lethal. I know it's probably the fault of a greedy landlord wanting as many spaces as possible, but come on. The limit is reached when the congestion from the lot causes accidents in the streets. I am very impressed with the service given by the managers and clerks. The do seem to go out of their way to find whatever obscure thing I need (dates, red food color, caviar). Some of the checkers can be a little sour, but everyone is allowed to have a bad day. read more

I have been going here for over 30 years and hate to say it but I will probably never shop here again. Three times now I have have shopped here for their great ads and never received the ad price. Finally, today, I decided to say something after being over charged, again. I didn't realize it until after dinner when I was talking to my wife and sister about the cost of groceries. When I noticed. At first, I wasn't going to say anything but my sister told me I should. I on the way home I stopped by with my receipt and they told me there was nothing they could do unless I brought package of meat back. Pretty ridiculous that they want the meat back, that was my dinner! Lol good customer service would make these changes with a receipt at hand. Well Patrick, thanks for showing how you guys do things. Beware, this Vons will over charge YOU and when you confront them they basically laugh in your face. read more

Unfortunately they don't have zero stars. Every time I go there there's a problem. Always some issue or another that causes frustration and wastes time. Staff are either grossly incompetent or just simply liars. I've been told 3 different stories regarding my last prescription - 2 by the same guy, one by an anonymous woman on the telephone. My account was transferred there when Albertsons/Hagen closed. As it's 2 minutes from my house I've tried to put up with their nonsense but enough is enough. The whole Vons store is awful but the pharmacy is an absolute disgrace. Don't shop there - especially if you have high blood pressure! read more

The pharmacy is ridiculous. Not only long lines, they always have no stock of common items prescribed, the staff are most of the time quite rude - particularly a couple of the pharmacist who argued with me about two prescriptions that they called and told me were ready for pickup (automated). So, I drive there to see what was going on since I didn't think I had any prescriptions that I needed filled. I get there and they filled two prescriptions I had already filled and picked up a month before. When I told them that one of the pharmacist (a woman) proceeded to tell me I was wrong. I said I wasn't and left. Went home called the two doctor offices they both said no that they had not sent new prescriptions since the last time a month ago. I call back and they were so snotty to me I just ended the call advising them they should get their act together as some customers may just repurchase and take more drugs that may hurt them. They said they don't do that - but HELLO yes they do. This place is not only sloppy with rude staff they may actually hurt you with their misinformation! Let me also add , my doctor sent them a prescription for me to get the new shingles shot when I asked about whether or not they received it they said yes but that I was number XXX waiting to get it. YES! that is three numbers - in the hundreds for waiting. I still have not received the shot or have been able to get anyone at the pharmacy to tell me when I will. I will try another pharmacy for now on. As to the rest of the store - it's okay except you cannot go in there without there being a shortage of checkers, the aisles are loaded to the gills so it is difficult for customers to navigate without hurting someone. VONS time to get a BIG FIX! read more

The worst pharmacy! They are bunch of thieves I got medication for about $300, but I got an allergic reaction while using the samples and was hospitalized for three days. When I tried to return the medication closed, sealed, and untouched for a credit, they did not budge. Shame on this pharmacy for their neglect to help out their customer. After being hospitalized from the samples and not even opening the medication I bought, it is not only an embarrassment but an act of thievery by the pharmacy and drug company to not take appropriate action to give me the credit I deserve after the suffering this drug put me through. If you are looking to use this pharmacy my advice would be to stay as far away from this one. read more

This place over charges on all sale items it seems check your receipt you are getting ripped off! I bought three packs of spinach it said 1.99 each when you buy three. They charged me 3.99 each!!! Today I purchased crayola crayons for 1.59 I was charged 4.79 so I went back to get my money back. I was so irritated I threw the money in the bag and walked out. I came home to find they still charged me incorrectly. They charged 2.79!! On my way back to let them have an earful again!!! Check your receipts I'm so disgusted! read more

Nice market but shopping late at night is a pain. Workers stocking shelves in almost every shopping row and especially at the meat section. Someone is going to hurt themselves one day there.Complained at check-out but the teenage girl didn't seem to care and continued to talk about drinking and partying with the other checker/bag boy. Solicitors outside blocking entrance and exit asking me to buy something or sell baseball cards. I just want to enter store peacefully. read more

Not well-informed. Could not tell me what dosage was for typhoid med I picked up recently and did not tell me that it had to be refrigerated. My friend got same med at Costco and they were very professional: knew exactly when she should start medication and told her to refrigerate. My new local pharmacy is Costco!! read more

This store has the worst meat/fish department of any grocery store, EVER. The service is horrible, it always looks deserted. Then when someone finally does notice you standing there, they make you wait a few more minutes. I wanted 1/2 lb of spicy ahi poke. Not only did Jesus (my meat guy) not know what it was, he literally walked around in circles trying to find gloves so he could pick up the poke with his hands. He finally surrendered to a plastic bag. I watched him throw my poke into a styrofoam tray container (after he had started to put the wrong fish in the container) with his hands covered with the plastic bag. Then he announced they had no lids, so he'd have to put plastic wrap around it. This is RAW fish (poke is raw cubes of tuna). No way was I going to walk away with plastic wrap around it. So gross and I will never come to this store again (I say that every year or so). read more

This store normally has decent service. Unfortunately today for the first time while I was in a unusually chipper mood for the last few chapters of my life....(my brother passed away 6 moths ago, only sibling, mom cancer, dad double knee surgery) I called a girl, in the parking lot pushing carts who was working and is the same age as me cute, SHE then responded by telling me her name. Then, later as the girl had been brought inside I asked her to show me where to find a certain lemonade. Out of nowhere her family confronted me and implied a physical confrontation. When I reported this to the manager he said that I should not harass his workers. And SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE FACT THAT HIS EMPLOYEES ENCOURAGED THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS TO FIGHT ON THE PREMISES. I asked for his boss, he ignored me and left for the day. When his replacement showed up, a woman she was completely uncooperative and she said that I had sexually harassed an employee and continued to act confrontational to me, including AVOID at all costs giving corporates number and her name, and absolutely refused to give her ID #. She did however feel free and lively about telling her lower end employees that I was a sexual harasser. By the time she was done ALL the employees within viewing distance had stopped actually WORKING to view their manager, NOT working and setting the standard. While she was busy spreading lies, UNDER THE ADVISE OF MY CHECKER ( A VON'S EMPLOYEE) I attempted to apologize to the girl, only to be grabbed physically by the woman manager and told to leave her employees alone. She then finally supplied the corporate number. I checked out spent my $130 on flower for my sick parents and leisurely left the store. She followed me, which I found odd because she had just arrived, but she was taking her first smoke break. Also, I was in a ca accident recently and have been severely handicapped, as I asked for help out I was refused help. Even though I was even parked in a handicap space and qualify for a handicap placard. Kudos to Von's for determining that the US government cant tell when a person is handicapped and can use help out of a store. ----Really low class and wretched way to treat people. Especially when their down and out. After thinking about it I realized of course she hardly works and takes a lot of smoke breaks, the problems in stores always start with management. It was at this well deserved smoke break (after literally 3 minutes of work) that she seized the opportunity to follow me out of the store and then yell "Hope you parents feel better" with such a sneer that it couldn't be mistaken that the manager would go to any cost even being snide toward my family's unfortunate situation in order to anger me. It was in the complications of everything that I told the on duty manager, about my mother with breast cancer and father who had just had a knee replaced. The explanation for the flowers..... Shame on you Von's. The fact you even hired such a person is ABSURD. She is out of control and the fact that you hired her foreshadows the future of surrounding Southern California locations. Until this is resolved I will be shopping elsewhere and I recommend all avoid this specific location - especially if your buying flowers for your cancerous mother and elderly father who just had knee replacement. read more

Horrible customer service! We wanted to get a bouquet and we're looking for the proper bag to prevent water from dripping. The ones you can easily find if you're at Trader Joe's. We couldn't find any, so we asked customer service since there's a sign saying if there's no one at the flower help desk, ask customer service. The first thing the lady at customer service said was: there's no one at the flower department...yes, we can see that. We asked her for the bag and she said they're out. And that's it! Obviously we are asking her for help with the situation not a restatement of observations we already made. So we asked if there's anything she can do or find to help our flower from dripping water. For example, a piece of paper or something. Then she said for those we need to pay. Well.. if you didn't run out then we wouldn't need the paper. Why do we need to pay extra for your incompetence of maintaining the inventory? We didn't say that out loud... and she doesn't seem to care at all either. If it weren't for the nice cashier we checked out with, it'll be a zero star place. read more

This one is for the deli. I went in to get a sandwich. I was approached by unhappy Betty who asked if I needed help or if I was just looking. Yes Betty, I would like to order a sandwich. She then said, "Let me see if we have any bread made." She came back a few minutes later from wherever she went, carrying an open tray of sandwich rolls through the store. Then I said I'd like a veggie sandwich. She said, "We don't have a lot of things for a veggie just so you know." I looked over the counter and saw nothing but a few red onions, 3 slices of tomatoes, cheese that looked like it had been sitting out in the open since yesterday and tons of wrapped up meats. I said, "I see that, ok well I guess tomatoes and onions...." she cut me off and said, "Yeah first, what condiments!?" I asked for mayo and she fiddled down below and then shouted to another employee asking where the condiments were. She then came back with 3 packets of mayo and put them on the bread. THEN, she just walked away yet again. I gave her 2 minutes and with no sight of sour Betty I just left. Why would I even want to spend 6-7 dollars on a sandwich with just tomato and onion anyway and last I checked you have a sandwich MENU up at your deli. This was right before noon...lunch time!! So a thousand apologies if I threw you off guard with my ordering of a sandwich at your so called deli. read more

I like Von's Pharmacy better than CVS or Rite Aid...it's quicker to get service. they're very pleasant and bend over backwards to fill your prescriptions...call the insurance company, fax the doctor and call when your Meds are ready. read more

I have never had an issue with Vons at any location in San Pedro. I have used this location's bakery once before and was very satisfied. However, I had submitted an order for cakes on a Tuesday and was going to pick up on Saturday. I received a call on Saturday morning from a Von's bakery employee stating they would not be able to fulfill my order because the cake decorator had called in sick. They offered no other alternative...NOTHING!!! Oh, and this was over a voice-mail. I immediately call back and speak with the manager, whoever that was, and she said she understands why I'm upset and they are doing what they can. I was placed on hold for several minutes and decided to hang up and take control of the situation myself. I drove to the Vons off Gaffey street and speak to a bakery employee and unfortunately their cake decorator was off for the weekend. He suggested the Albertson's in the next plaza over from the Vons...I hadn't even thought about that. So here I go praying that Albertson's can help me out. During that short drive, I receive a phone call from the woman who originally left a voice-mail on my phone and she says that I can have for 'free' 2 other cakes that are made for the public. I asked if it was with the whipped topping rather than buttercream (I hate buttercream) she says no. Well, why in the world would I want something that I'm not going to enjoy!!! I said no thanks I'll be purchasing a cake from elsewhere. I am so thankful for the Albertsons' bakery employee and the cake! Their cake was AMAZING...A LOT BETTER than the cakes from Vons. Not only did everyone rave about the cake at my party...it was cheaper too!! An ENTIRE full sheet of cake was eaten!!!!!! Never again will I order from the Vons bakery....ALBERTSON'S TO THE RESCUE!!!! read more
