I did not experience anything special about this Vons. I merely go here for the occasional bottle of wine when I'm near South Coast Plaza. Their pricing on wine is not bad, on par with the pricing that I'm used to in Cerritos. If you shop in Irvine, there's a $1-$4 difference per bottle of wine for all sub-$20 bottles. That's why I go to this Vons, pricing is better. No bells and whistles, just right down to the basics. A reasonable place to shop. This store literally needs to fire everybody and start from scratch. It's such a mess, I come here only because it's my closest grocery store. In the last month, they've been getting nasty when you're in the store late. Saying they'll close down registers etc, saying it's 10:55 when it's 10:45. Today was the nail in the coffin for me, I got there at 10:52 I literally only needed to grab two things and the security guard started yelling at me telling me the doors need to be closed at 11 when it was only 10:52. We argued back and forth as he screamed at me for giving him facts. You can't just start to close before closing because you want to. I left and a couple parked next to me said they got there at 10:45 and were turned away. This store has some nerve and some disgusting security guards. I'm calling corporate tomorrow and will be writing a long email, i've never been so angry at a grocery store before. Now I have to go back out tomorrow because they wouldn't let me in when they weren't even closed. They turned away 3 other cars of people before me. The security guard said he'd been instructed to close doors at 11 when it wasn't 11, I don't think any of these employees have their clocks set right. It's getting better. I've been coming here since I've moved to the area. The changes to the fresh produce is the most amazing. I can get items that I can't get from whole foods. The seafood department is still problematic. You ask a question about where the oysters are from and they look like a deer caught in headlights. Really disappointing. The deli is much nicer...they got Boars Head! And like a true deli...samples before you buy! Customer service is where it's difficult. If you get to know some of the checkers at the registers it's s great experience, but some of them just have a bad attitude no matter what and have no sense of customer service. I go for the produce! I like this store it's typically clean and I can find everything I need. The only thing I have experienced time and time again with this store is the painfully slow between the slow checkouts and long long lines. If they could get that down I'd be shopping there more for sure. Honestly, I'd rather deal with Costco or Trader Joe's since it's usually an in and out operation at TJ's. read more

Really nice people who work here. However, it takes a long time sometimes in line. Pretty good selection. I like how clean the stores but in the parking lot it's always really bad. I think that I really don't like is that they have a constant issue at the door where is selling stuff or promoting some campaign and panhandling. I am always asked for money when I walk inside and it makes you feel uncomfortable. I do not go to this location because of that. Additionally, they are always campaigning for some cars and no matter how justified it should be that is not what IWant to discuss when I am going grocery shopping. I just want to get in get out and not have to have a discussion about world peace, animals, or other issues. I also do not appreciate how busy this location can be and many times it has a lack of catchers. That is not the cashiers fault though or the people working there, that is a corporate issue. I pretty much had a great experience coming to the store each time. People are always very friendly and helpful, the store is always extremely clean, and I always find what I need quickly. Also, whenever I asked for quarters so that I can do my laundry, the staff and the manager have always been very accommodating even though I know they don't have to be. One guy today, named Nick, who I think might be the manager, was very helpful and gave me the quarters without asking questions. I appreciate the service and will continue shopping here. Today was it! Last time we go to this Vons (even though it means driving farther to get to a name brand store...oh why did Ralph's close?!?!). Sick of the never ending wait in the stupid lines, any time of the day there's ALWAYS a line! You people can't fix this after all this time??? Throw some self check-outs over near where you've now put the "express" lanes - nothing express about them btw. Almost universally bad attitude with the checkers, no one seems to be in a hurry. Are these people trained? They obviously hate being there and hate their jobs. A supervisor told us today that it was the customer's fault that the lines were long, and then had the nerve to say the chip machine for the credit cards made the lines longer...SERIOUSLY?!?! My experience has been nothing but positive at this location. It's the closest drive up and go store to my home. Orders have been accurate and pick up was fast and easy. I had one issue with a substituted item on an order, they corrected the item, were able to get my original items back on the order and I was quickly on my way. Thank you very much Bailey!!! It's close to home so I come here a lot for a couple items when I forgot to go anywhere else that won't gouge me on the price. This place is just about the most expensive regular grocery store I've shopped at. Only Whole Foods is more expensive than this. Don't usually shop at this Vons because it's always understaffed, the employees seem to hate their jobs, and they don't even acknowledge you once you're at the register;they continue their conversations amongst themselves. It was three Sunday's ago I went in and as I was checking out the cashier was handing out change to another employee during my transaction and I was not given my change. I didn't notice until I got home that night so I called and they said to come in and everything would get situated. I came in two nights after that, told one of the employees there what had happened he took my receipt wrote down my name and number and said he'd show it to their accountant and I'd receive a call in two days. A week later, I had not heard from them. I drove there talked to an employee by the name of Victoria and told her what had happened and she told her manager Shaun, again they took my name and number and ASSURED me they'd call me back in two days because they had to review the cameras and talk to their accountant. It's been another week and I have heard nothing from them. It's really frustrating when you're trying to keep your composure and be polite when handling these types of situations when the staff isn't doing the same. I will NEVER again shop at this Vons, they've failed to comply with their word and I'm not wasting any more of my precious time driving half way across Santa Ana to get told the same bull crap over and over again. It's a nice, clean market, which I appreciate. The prices, however, are outrageous. They have a few sales that bring the prices down to a bit more reasonable, but it's just not worth doing my weekly shopping there. They are constantly out of items as well, which is frustrating. After going there, I always find myself having to run to trader joes or target (which are both nearby) to get the things that they don't have or that are absurdly overpriced. read more

this is a smaller location and they lack much frozen items they do have a bug clearance area or at least they used to at one time when it was located over by the bakery area. Now it is over on the far end florist side in the back corner by the fish area. The bagging employees are always nice and they have a lot of Deals all around the store. I go to this VON's because it's right down the street from my apartment and because I've had a rewards card through their corporation. Recently I went there and bought some toilet paper. It rang up higher than the price it was listed under so I told my cashier (Terri, who I have had before and she's always acted like a grump) that I was going to take a picture and would be right back. All of the toilet paper (of the brand I was trying to get) was stacked underneath the sign for the wrong brand, which is why the price was different. I took the picture, came back, and waited while she checked out the person who was after me. After she was done I said "Excuse me I have the picture" and she looks at me and goes "Miss, I'll be with you in a second" then starts to check out another person! Well I said "Excuse me?" and hold out the phone towards her and she goes "I'll be with you in a second!" and shot me an angry look. Then I asked to speak to her manager. She called him over the speaker and I waited for five minutes and no one showed up... I kept staring at her and then she said "my supervisor is at the checkout over there if you want to talk to her." I go over to the supervisor, show her the picture and explain that they had stacked this brand of toilet paper in the wrong spot. Information that Terri refused to even look at or hear. I told the supervisor how rude the other cashier was and she price matched the price, as they should have from the start! I waited 25 minutes at the bakery and got no help at all , in fact there was no one behind the counter , until I went to the deli and asked for help, she said "let me get someone to come help you. " ten minutes later a lady walks up and says , "the manager will be here soon to help you , not sure what happened to the girl that works here , she must have walked out ." So this is my spiel on this particular Vons. My girlfriend and I had just moved to the area and had been to this location a couple of times before, but this was our first major purchase as we needed to restock the fridge after the move. The selection of things isn't anything you wouldn't find at a normal store; our issue came at the cash register. We are waiting in line and right before the cashier starts ringing us up the bagger just walks, I think to myself oh great I need to frantically bag up all of our items. This is far from the issue that would soon come into play though, as the transaction was coming to an end my girlfriend asked the cashier if we could split the purchase onto two cards. He responded sure no problem, just don't ask for cash back. She asks to put $64 on her card, but then immediately after the register pops open saying it owes her $36 and some change. He then asks did you get cash back? To which she responds no. I look up from bagging our items to see that this genius typed in $164 into the cash register instead of $64. I'm like what the f***?!? We asked if he could just refund the amount, but he said it was too late and there was nothing he could do. At the moment we were mad, but didn't want to make a scene so we just took the groceries and left. As the day drew on I got more and more upset at the incident; I work in customer service and this was just despicable based on principle alone. We decided to give the place one more shot, but the constant barrage of solicitors outside the store along with the I could not care less attitude of the cashiers/ baggers led us to find other stores to facilitate our grocery needs. read more

I refuse to shop at this chain. On Wednesday 8/27/14, was the last straw. After 8pm, good luck with getting to purchase anything. I stood in line for 20 minutes and still did not get to complete purchase. The company staffs this store with 2 checkers. At least 10 people in line, food stamps are a given to take longer, but this was ridiculous. I walked out and will never go back. What's worse, their courtesy clerks are snickering behind the desk at the 30-plus customers in 2 open check stands. I highly discourage you from shopping here. read more

I was at Target on Bristol and needed to pick up a cake in a hurry so I went to Von's. Most cakes looked sad and poorly made but I decided on a tiramisu bar ($9.99) and a small, round "tres leches cake" ($13.99). Both were absolutely dry. The tiramisu didn't have that coffee flavor it's supposed to have and the tres leches cake had no leches at all. Please avoid buying a cake baked in store and opt for an ice cream cake from the freezer next to the bakery unless you want to be disappointed. read more

This review only reflects the customer service aspect of this store. We have shopped here many times and there seems to NEVER be anyone in the customer service desk to assist us. We've had to leave several times because we were tired of waiting. On my most recent visit, I waited 15 minutes just to redeem a lottery ticket and submit a Vons club application. I kept being told the manager would be with me shortly, but never did. I was eventually helped by a cashier instead. Come to think of it, I've never seen a manager on the floor in all the times we've shopped here. All that being said, my club card still hasn't been linked to my number weeks later. read more

This grocery store stinks really bad. I wouldn't purchase any fresh food here because of the way the meat counter reeks. If you walk to the back of the store be prepared to cover your nose. I only come to this location for snacks & other processed unhealthy items. There are usually two registers open, so the lines are really long extending into the aisles. This is my regular grocery store and I've always found the staff to be very helpful, whether that be in locating items, flower suggestions, checking prices, etc. One time I came late to the deli and the dude had put all the fresh meats away for the day but was even kind enough to go out of his way to pull some out for me. Came in to Vons today to pick up chips and I when I checked out, I thought that one of my bags of chips was club discount. When I mentioned that to my cashier, she said it's not discounted. The bag girl, Lucy, noticed the situation and asked me if we can check the price tag for the chips. She kindly escorted me back to the aisle and we both saw the club price tag for one of my chips. Unfortunately, it was an expired tag and I did not catch the small print that it was already past due. Lucy asked if I would like my refund and I did not mind receiving my refund. She asked again to see if I was sure and I gave in the 2nd time and she helped me out in getting my refund! Lucy was very nice and her customer service was hands down 5 stars . I docked off 1 star only because the tag was not taken off 3-4 days after the expired date. Other than that, I greatly appreciate Lucy's customer service in doing the little things by simply helping me check the tag to confirm I wasn't seeing things made the biggest difference. This location is very big and clean. It has a Starbucks inside and a Wells Fargo. Things are pretty easy to find in here but the customer service is the worst. I gave it 2 stars only because this location carries my favorite drink but I avoid this Vons as much as I can. Tonight when I came in, the employee checking us out (looked like a manager or assistant manager) did not acknowledge us. We had to greet him and he kind of mumbled something below his breath. We said hello to the bag lady and asked her how her night was going and she responded by "I am here." The person checking us out was talking to the bag lady more than he was talking to us and the bag lady definitely did not want to be there. Once we were done checking out, he did not give me my monopoly game pieces, instead I had to ask him for them. Isn't this your biggest promotion right now? Shouldn't you guys be happy to hand these out to customers who choose products based on this promotion? He ran out of game pieces and had to go a different register to get more and the bag lady proceeded to say "I am over giving out these game pieces?". This promotion helps the sales of your stores, you shouldn't be over any promotion your store is running. If you are unhappy, you should move onto a different job, maybe one that doesn't have you directly dealing with customers. Vons-you need to do a better job of the customer service training given to your employees. I hate coming into this location because of how miserable most of your employees seem to be. read more
