Where has the customer service gone? I've been a regular since this store opened in the late 1980's and the quality and selection of products have steadily declined over the years. From very out of date dry goods to employees who either don't have proper training or just don't seem to care, it makes an easy decision to keep driving past to the next grocery. Case in point: just try getting a sandwich at the deli when only one, new employee is on. I was told that the sandwich station is closed because he "has other things to do". What the double F?? smh all the way, way far away. Staters is the next stop which is a shame because there some really awesome employees here! Annette! Megan! Emily!!! Ben! The Pharmacy! This review is specifically for the service deli area. I went in to get some party wings. The person at the counter let me know it would be about 10 minutes. Great, no prob! I go back to the counter 15 minutes later and the lady at the service deli didn't even put the wings on to cook, she was too busy talking to a co-worker and said she forgot. The rest of the store is how you'd expect a grocery store to be, nothing fancy. Pricing is a bit more expensive compared to other places, but a solid option for being one of the only grocery stores around. read more

Young woman at the friend chicken area who served me some food was rude and I couldn't even finish saying my order because she was too busy chatting away with a friend that she saw passing by. I don't expect much, not even a hello, but at least some respect. Not much of a helper. I wasn't sure how the ordering process was as it was my first time and it's definitely my last as the food is mediocre at best but the service is way below average. The "Customer Service", or lack thereof, that I and other customers received from store manager Jerry Prado during a recent visit is such a cause for concern that it had to be reported to Corporate. Mr. Prado needs to undergo retraining, if he ever received any training at all, in how to properly run the store and just as importantly, how to effectively communicate with customers and handle customer concerns. From my recent experience, Mr. Padro is professionally clueless, socially inept and therefore lacks the necessary social and professional skills to communicate with customers and provide positive solutions. Mr. Padro admitted he didn't know what was going on in his own store and when I invited him to roll up his sleeves and help his associates as he claimed they were low on staff, he smirked and gave the impression that he was too good to be working behind the counter with the young man at the deli section who was drowning because he had been left all alone. It is this display of elitist superiority that brings to question Mr. Padro's ability to be an effective leader to this establishment. Even though this is the closest grocery store to my home, I would rather drive an extra mile or two and take mine and my family's business elsewhere than continue to support this local Vons until I know something has been done to properly retrain Mr. Padro in effective leadership and customer relations. read more

This is the worst market ever, the grocery section is dirty, messy, fruits are rotten and still on the shelves. It seems there is no managers on site. The cashiers chat with each other and the flower stand is dirty with trash piled up in the bags. The parking lot full of trash everywhere you go with leaves and pieces of junks sitting there for days. We wish this Vons can closed down soon. No exaggeration took 20 minutes to get a sandwich made nobody else was in line took another five minutes just got acknowledged I try not to be pushy and give Frontline workers space and respect because I know how hard it can be, but I had to proactively ask for assistance, despite being walked past several times to make it worse they were out of literally everything like nobody had prepped at the station on several occasions during my sandwich creation the artist had to go and find substitutes throughout the grocery store. I understand it's a tough job/unenjoyable way to spend your day, but I assure you, it was equally unpleasant for me so congrats if that was your goal. I was at the deli dept few days ago and it is so hard to get help. There's only 2 staffs working and both were helping customers at the sandwich section while 2 of us waiting to at the Fried chicken area. Been standing there for 5 mins and we were not getting acknowledged that they will be with us shortly. Even if we were there first standing before ppl getting in line to purchase their sandwiches. Finally when the other customer with me called their attention to help us out, one of them finally approached. Then at the self check out, the von's employee watching over that section was very rude. I am new to the digital coupon and she was giving me an attitude and a strong sigh of breath letting me know that she's annoyed with me bec I am dumb for not knowing what to do with a digital coupon. She can see me scrambling on my phone and doesnt even bother to help me out. I have to show her my phone as to help me navigate where I can get the specific coupon. She will just say, "go to the wallet" without helping me point it out where. So it took longer to find it. And the more she got annoyed with me. Since late 2020, both the Deli and Bakery departments have the worst service ever. I tried to not complain because how hard everyone is working but enough is enough. There are a lot of seniors in this are of Walnut, CA and I've seen these deli and bakery workers being rude and dismissive. Today (10/21/22) seniors and others were being ignored once again! I get it these are hard times for any working American in the service industry, but come on!? I expect management to do something because this should not be tolerated. To the lady that was working in the MEAT :) section--SUPER RUDE. My mom and her friend went into the store to buy 5lbs of beef rib eye roast for $4.77/lb. They paid for it and left the store. They decided to go back to buy another 5lbs and the employee told them that she would NOT sell them the beef rib eye roast for $4.77/lb, but instead she would be charging $7.99/lb. When shown in the pamphlet of deals (showing $4.99/lb), the employee still refused and turned them away--told them to ask the cashier to see if they would be willing to sell for $4.77/lb. Disappointed in the customer service here today. We came in looking for pita bread; unfortunately we could not find it, we asked an employee who was restocking shelves by the bread area. He was nice, but looked like it was his first day. He did bring over another employee who looked around for the tag, and noticed it was out of stock. When we asked if there was anything in the back, she looked at us as if we were crazy for even asking her to go in the back to get it. She rudely brushed us off and said no... walked away. So sad, Vons was a top brand when I was growing up, this is clearly one of the reasons why they keep dropping off the local markets. Quality of employees and services does matter! read more

Tricia, on Sat Aug 5, 2023, provided exceptional customer service! She was not only helpful but very patient in helping my wife and children find what they were looking for in the store. I even told her a story about something boneheaded I did the previous day and she immediately asked her manager if she could fix the problem for me. I didn't even ask for the matter to be resolved. Tricia is exceptionally nice and friendly as well. I have been to 1000s of stores in my 5 decades of existence and she is definitely one of the nicest grocery employees that I have ever met at any supermarket I have visited in North America. I am not sure what her official title is at Vons in Walnut, CA but she would definitely make a great Manager one day if she is given the opportunity. I enjoy the staff on the floor. They're so friendly and they're always stopping what they are trying to do if you pass them and ask if they can help you with anything. They're really friendly people. Whenever I do ask for something (which isn't often as I've been going to this location for years), employees go above and beyond to help. The only negative I will say is between the cashiers/baggers. Instead of paying attention to their guests, 90% of the time pick an item I buy and start talking amongst themselves about it then start just having conversation without acknowledging my existence as a customer at all. "Hey what do you think of this item," "I haven't tried it yet it looks weird." "Yeah idk I wouldn't try it either." I had the same experience as another person's review of this store. I was using the self-checkout and some lady (around 50-60 years old, Hispanic) pulled my attention away to say 'good morning' from behind me (she said it twice and I didn't initially hear her but then I realized the second time she was talking to me) as I was focused on scanning my items as if to make sure that I knew she was there and watching me. She then came up to look into my cart to make sure she knew what I had and that I wouldn't steal anything. It made me very uncomfortable as if she was profiling me and assuming I was there to steal things. Definitely won't be coming back here again. Generally a nice, clean store with friendly employees. The pharmacy, specifically, is 5 stars for me. The employees are always friendly. I made the mistake of going to the CVS down the street and it was awful. The pharmacists were so polite here compared to them and there is never a problem with something being ordered next day (very fast)- but most of the time they have your medication here. I called Vons today at 6pm to order a birthday cake that I will need tomorrow at 6:30 pm. The person who answered the phone told me he didn't want to take the order because I would possibly get a phone call at 6am saying the order may not get filled. He was unsure. He also asked me if I understood. I told him that I did not understand. Can I get a cake or not. It was a simple bday cake order for a girl. No elaborate decoration. I bought a very nice Halloween balloon for my 2 month niece from this location for 16$ and she fell completely on love with her new floating friend. Fast forward to December and the balloon is nearly deflated. On an effort to save her balloon friend, I called Vons to find out the price to fill that single balloon, and the guy on the phone said, "we can fill it, but it would be for the price of the balloon you bought here." I responded: "the balloon costed 16$. Do you mean that you guys will charge 16$ for filling the helium?" He responded: "yes, you're paying for the helium as if you're buying a new balloon." Ummm, ok. Then you will fill a balloon for a penny if I say it's I bought it for penny? I'll drive further and get it filled for under two dollars at Party City or local florist. P.s. I normally come here once a week after walking for my breakfast burrito and today I missed the deli manager she was on break, and she makes my burritos pretty good, fast and hot. So today I had a younger girl who was nice but she was so new she really didn't know how to make it, wrap it or heat it up properly. She did ask if I wanted it warmer and I thought it was at least warm but it was only the out side that felt warm since the inside was actually cold cheese never melted potatoes and meat were cold. Great supermarket, just like your normal Vons. Everything is very clean and well-organized. Workers are helpful and friendly. Service is great and rapid, especially in the express lane. I noticed that this supermarket tends to have lower prices than most supermarkets and you can get quite a deal like that. I like the self-serve soups/stews because not every supermarket has that. I also like the fried chicken section! IT'S A GREAT DEAL! And let me add, who doesn't love fried chicken right? The only downside I found one time was that some of the vegetables in the fresh produce sections looked a little old. Overall, I recommend this supermarket to all local shoppers! read more

I normally didn't go to Vons back in the day, but after surviving 4 years at UCD and having to buy expensive groceries at Safeway, I gave Vons another shot. This, especially, since I was a JustforU member since it debuted in NorCal in 2008 and now in Southern California. They still have some pretty pricey items, but if you take the time and effort to use their savings program, you can save tons! For example, there was a 4 mangoes for $1 sale and I had a produce department $3 off coupon on any produce, so I checked out with 12 mangoes for FREE! It's a crazy program, but well worth it, and if there's any error on your reciept, just let the cashier know, and they'll work it out. This place gets 4 stars because I've seen/met with some unhappy employees, and it's pretty tragic, why work at a place that requires 24 hr customer service?! If you're not happy, go work at home... Yeah, pretty tragic. However, I've met some pretty awesome people here, always polite, always professional! Produce guys are always nice, so are the ones that stock in the dairy section, not to mention the store manager. I complained once and the store manager personally called me to apologize the next day. This place also gets 4 stars because, I've seen some rotting things stay on the shelves for a few days... but that really doesn't deter me from attending this store. Also, their Rancher's Reserve Meats are crazy fresh! No glue here! I'd also like to add that their Chocolate Cake Slice for $2.29 is killer (absolutely not too sweet). read more

The single most helpful person at this pharmacy is Ashley. She really cares about the customer and goes above and beyond to help you. She makes sure your requests get done and has the decency to call you back. I would give this place five stars for her, but everyone else is terrible. The other woman who helped me couldn't even be bothered to check with my insurance if my medicine was covered. She just kept trying to pass off the job, or hang up as fast as she could. read more

Stopped by to grab a few things for a party! This location is well stocked with fresh food, parking was very easy to find, and the prices are reasonable (with rewards card). We stopped by in the morning and the deli and catering section made fresh pasta salad, salads, and cole slaw. The lady was really nice and asked us if we needed help. She made some good recommendations and mentioned that she just made the food fresh and not too long ago. There is a florist with fresh bouquet of flowers everyday. They also have a red box and this is where I usually pick up a movie before I head home. The check out line wasn't too bad. The staff was also very friendly and thanked us for our business. There are not too many Vons locations around. So this location must be doing something right to stay in business for so many years. read more
