We've actually been to the speak-easy inside Voodoo Bayou called Roka Hula which thoroughly impressed us, that we decided to return and try the restaurant! Our table server "Summer" was absolutely one of the best people to take care of our party of eight! She was very attentive to our concerns, especially with my son who suffers from several food allergies. Her recommendations for food were spot on, everything from the steak and eggs to the jambalaya were so tasty and the presentation was nice! The Beignets were also great and comparable to those from Cafe du Monde. The disappointments were the Gumbo (bland and lacking in veggies), the Po' Boy (bland, almost tasteless) and the Fried Chicken (again bland). Came here for a friends birthday party it was a party of 15. We had reservations for a Saturday night and the server was on point for this large of a group. We had just reservations for voodoo bayou and not the speakeasy lounge but the manager made it happen for us for a group of 6 that could go in. I would definitely be back as a live band was setting up as we were going into the speakeasy and on Sundays they have a brunch that sounded good. The speakeasy got crowded quick and sitting at the bar was a first come first serve basis. The drink presentation was amazing but pricey but would get again. So my first attempt going here was a bit of a hassle. we couldn't RSVP and was told to just come by to try our luck. Well there was no luck. Prior to us being told to do so, another lady stepped in the conversation to tell us no when the first lady was actually going to look for us.Second attempt months later I was able to RSVP. Wow is all I have to say! I loved Voodoo Bayou so much that I will certainly be visiting again soon, maybe even for my birthday. If you are a fan of spooky Victorian decor and love delicious craft cocktails, this is the spot for you. Voodoo Bayou is located in the same plaza as Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and The Whiskey, so do plan to arrive early in order to get a parking spot. If you can't find one, they also offer valet around the side of the restaurant. As far as food is concerned, we had the chicken & waffles and cowboy ribeye. Be sure to grab a reservation because folks without had a long wait before they were sat and the lobby is large, but not large enough to hold the amount of people waiting to be sat. While we enjoyed the food, I'm not confident that I would be rushing back to get anything that we had already. Really unique place. The dark decor and theme was very interesting. I tried the gator bites and jambalaya. The Gator was ok with a few small pieces. New restaurant on restaurant row next to Ruth Chris. The decor is very cool! We got oysters which were great and on happy hour. We also tried an old fashioned and frozen hurricane which were on happy hour. The only issue we had was with our check. We got Svedka Vodka and cranberry which is $6 on happy hour but we were charged $11. We didn't notice until after we paid so I flagged down a manager who was walking by saying "Excuse Me" and he proceeded to say are you talking to me. I said yes aren't you one of the managers and proceeded to tell him the issue with being overcharged. He then took 10 minutes trying to fix the check. When he came back he didn't even apologize the issue and just gave me a corrected bill saying I could keep it if I wanted the new copy of the check. The steak here is absolutely orgasmic. I got the Nola greens salad for lunch as well as a Saint Valencourt cocktail. I haven't been to lunch here before so my friend Chris and I decided to stop in. The vibe for lunch is a little bit more relaxed and easy than the vibe for dinner. The lights in the dining room are definitely brighter and that is honestly a plus because I can actually see what I'm eating. They also have music playing in the background and the dining room isn't too loud so you could actually hear the person across from you. Once we sat down, the service was good. The place has good vibes especially if you are into "voodoo" (not my style, personally), the decor was very detailed. The food came out with great time and presentation, however, nothing I ate was worth the very expensive prices on the menu. I ordered the Cajun carbonara and it was actually delicious, but I still stand by the prices being just too high. It didn't even come with any meat on it, I had to pay extra for some chicken on my pasta dish. A must go spot! Friend and I went to check this new spot out while we were in town and I gotta say, well worth it! It's located in a large shopping area with other restaurants as well, with office buildings above it. Don't get confused it's on the first level! My daughter is a vegetarian and they were kind enough to make her Mac and cheese without the ham. It was ok. Could have had more depth of flavor. The rest of us got po boys. 2 shrimp and one oyster. They were fresh and the bread was soft but we all agreed that we could have used more filling. We ended with the beignets and they were warm and delicious. Our server was really attentive and nice. I wished it was cut in smaller bites and didn't expect it to have a sauce or peppers. My partner got the jambalaya which had a lot of meat and he enjoyed it.
