I got the voodoo donut and the capn my capn. So sweet! They are good I'm telling you but just sweet. On the voodoo i was a little disappointed that there was no jelly in the middle. I thought it would be where the pretzel stick was stuck in but it was in the foot area of it. And it had some but like 1/8 teaspoon worth. Either way i loved the chocolate on it and how fluffy it was. We also got the Old Dirty Bastard, the one with Oreo on it, and the bubble gum one. The bubble gum was just plain in taste to me. He said it was empty and he even found parking based on a Sunday. - I only made him get it based on the ratings online and clearly am not even impressed -While the donuts are beautifully decorated some are tasty some are not. I have always wanted to try voodoo doughnuts. I guess today is my lucky day. One of my friends brought a box in and i immediately snagged the maple bacon donut. Who doesn't like a savory and sweet combo! This donut is huge! I typically like my donuts a little warm so I ended up putting it in the microwave. This took it to the next level by melt of the maple sugar and bacon, to create the perfect combination. Not to mention it was super hot in this place (doors are always open) and their lack of AC does not help in this Texas weather. But we were very excited and eager to try since it's so popular. They're a CASH ONLY establishment so bring cash or use the ATM near the front of the store. Donuts are on average $2-4 depending on which ones you get. My boyfriend and I got the Voodoo Doll (their signature donut), Sprinkle Cake, and Butterfingering. I'm glad that the donuts weren't that pricey because boy were they let-downs. It was 12:30 am and we were drinking so the fact that they were bad also added to our disappointment. The donuts tasted like the texture of a powdered sugar donut that you get in grocery stores and the icing tasted like Walmart chocolate icing. Their most popular one, the Voodoo, was smothered after they threw it in the bag. So we couldn't even see the doll image or take a picture of it. It was basically black icing on a donut. On top of all that, we got our change in coins. Overall, this place is not worth the hype. If you want the experience, $2 donuts is not that bad. But we've definitely had better donuts for less. We came here on a Saturday during a farmers market and the entire block was closed off. We had to park far away but that didn't stop us from enjoying their delicious donuts. We've been to the Portland location so this was a must try. It was a bit hard to locate but we went in the direction of their pink boxes. We walked in and there was a wedding in progress. I asked the worker how often they have a wedding and he said a few times a year. It was interesting to witness a wedding ceremony that you weren't invited to... Friend who moved here recommended Voodoo doughnuts; I would've preferred to try out a local shop but he wasn't too familiar with the area and only knew of this place. The inside is really cool. Nothing quite like it where I'm from, so A+ on the aesthetics of the place. In terms of the actual donuts (I had Dirt and Raised Glazed) I wasn't too impressed. From the SF/SJ area and we have some pretty bomb local doughnut shops so I was not blown out of the water by this chain store. Voodoo Doughnut is a place a wind up hitting just about every time I swing through Austin. Its as if I'm under their spell. WINK. They've got a huge menu featuring sweet to even sweeter options along with a few gluten free treats. I love me the lil Voodoo Doll Doughnuts, they're decorated by hand and each one looks like its own unique voodoo doll victim complete with pretzels stabbing them in place of pins. They are filled with raspberry jelly (hello, gore) and craaaazy sweet chocolate frosting so not being the biggest fan of chocolate, I normally wind up scraping off a good amount of the icing myself. Another fave of mine is the *shieldyoureyes,children* Cock and Balls. Its a giant d o n g shaped twisty doughnut filled with Bavarian creme and topped with a little less chocolate than the voodoo dolls. These things are huge, too, taking up most of the surface space in one of the VD's classic pink boxes but really great for sharing. (Take it into the office, tell em its a rocket) This location is cash only but there is an ATM located inside. There's a pretty sizable seating area, long picnic looking benches, and some pretty neat decor- especially the giant American flag made of lights. I've only ever been here late in the day and I think the longest line I've experienced was 5 or so people. The cashiers move pretty quick though so its easy to get in and out. They offer a small selection of merch, it is a pilgrimage for dessert junkies, after all. Some shirts, mugs, koozies, etc. I only knock the one star for the cAsH OnLy noise. I believe because of this rule it makes them a big target for buskers to hang out front as I've encountered at least one literally every visit I've made. I'm not too stingy to share the odd dollar here and there but c'mon. And if you dare try to throw the 'I don't have any cash..' they call you on it lmao, "Well its cash only in there." This is one of my favorite places, so I decided to take some of my family and friends that came in from out of town. The experience would have been been five stars, but the cashier was rude and made us feel like she didn't want to help or was bothered when we decided to add to our order, making us feel unwelcome. It may not be local but it's very good. This donut shop has quickly become a 6th Street institution selling wacky donuts to a city known as weird. It fits perfectly and both locals and tourists flock here 24 hours a day. The decor speaks to itself as colorful as Willie. Of all the times I have been here there is always a line. I usually get two but others walk out with boxes and if you buy a lot they you get a 5 gallon bucket. The staff is friendly and the place is very clean.
