We finally went to check out Vortex. When we entered and sat the bar the bartender gave us run down about ordering at the bar before sitting down because they don't have a traditional wait staff. There's the bar, high tops, and regular tables. They have a great selection of bottled/canned craft beers which are priced right in line with what you'd pay anywhere else. They had a good selection of wine but nothing I'm familiar with so I can't speak to the price or selection. They offer flights, but those aren't advertised and when I asked about them I had to dig a little deeper to find out how many beers I could chose and the price. We weren't offered a food menu but saw them at other end of the bar. They don't print their beer menu because it changes often and they are environmentally conscious (gotta love them for that). The beer selection was varied but I struggled to find four beers to put in my flight, but I'm a self-professed beer snob. The couple next to us ordered a Bloody Mary so they must have a liquor license, too, but mixed drinks weren't advertised anywhere. The food that came out looked so good! They have a nice few selections on tap (few Goses which I love) as well as a bottle selection if you want something else I am a foodie at heart and just enjoy beer casually so this place loses a star for the food portions. The food tastes great, I had hoisin sesame glaze duck wings which were a first for me and I enjoyed it. I know advertised as tapas but it was a small portion (only 4 pieces... wish it was a meal with side). Husband had Korean pork belly banh mi which was Americanized definitely but good. We went last night to the Vortex for dinner. We've been several times and always had good food and service. I love their "not so wedge salad". I contemplated ordering something else on the menu, but then changed my mind and went for my favorite. It arrived without the chunks of pecan wood bacon. I told the waitress it was missing and she took my plate and returned with what looked like bagged crumbled bacon. It was just not the same. I didn't return it and my husband and I ate it. I mentioned it when we paid our bill that it was not the same as listed on the menu. She suggested that the next time I should order something else from the menu. Once I heard this place opened I had to try it out. I thought it would be so nice to have a local spot to hangout on a girls night out and not have to drive into Charlotte or Concord. If we want to Uber instead of have a DD the cost would be more like $5-10 instead of $30-50. I was really hoping I wouldn't be disappointed and I wasn't! They have local beers on tap, by the bottle and wine by the glass and bottle. By the bottle is much cheaper, FYI! Matt, the owner, served us and was so helpful! He described the wines and helped us narrow down our preferences easily and then the bottles began to flow. A few people ordered food and it looked amazing. I had a bite of a friends PLT, it was to die for! My sister had the flatbread pizza which was also delicious. Matt told us that they also offer gluten free wraps for all of their sandwiches which is a big bonus for us since my kids are gluten free so now if I want to bring them here for something different I think they will find some unique options to try and enjoy. Went here last night! I have celiac disease meaning I can't eat gluten. They offer ciders that are gluten free and delicious! I also ordered their cauliflower pizza with just cheese and it was by far the best pizza Ive had since being diagnosed with celiac disease. I came here for the first time about a week ago. I fell in love. I decided to come back today. I was alone and the female server/bartender gave me horrible anxiety. She spoke to me like I was an idiot. I immediately asked for a QR code and she handed me an iPad. When I didn't know what I wanted to drink, she seemed to be flustered. I again asked for a QR code. Tucked away in a small shopping center in Harrisburg is a little gem of a bottle shop. The taps are always rotation so you are sure to find something new each visit. The walls are lined with other selections of beer and wine. On one wall is a refrigerated section so you can enjoy something cold right away if you don't see something you like on draft, the other wall has a good selection of beer and wine you can take home. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and always happy to assist or offer advice on what selection is best for you. The menu isn't huge, but it doesn't need to be, the food is so good you won't mind eating the same things over and over again. There's outdoor seating on the patio for when the weather is good, or you can sit at the bar, or in the dining area. There are also a few seats in the back near the restrooms. The place is very clean as well. If you are in the Harrisburg area, this should definitely be on your list of places to visit. read more

I'm new to the Harrisburg area and stopped here for some wine one night. I love the Prosecco on tap. Maybe they should add a mimosa flight. I gave it four stars because it's only one option if you want meat and cheese. I felt the cheese selection wasn't plentiful, but overall good. Of course I would visit again! We love this place!! Not only do they have an awesome selection of beer and wine, they have some of the best small plate options to accompany your drink! We visit about once a month and are working our way through the menu... The Brie...just get it...it is heaven. The Portobello and garlic flatbread...this flatbread is no lie... CRAVEABLE! And if you want a meat lovers option, get the Triple X Flatbread ... yum! All of their salads are awesome. To amp it up I always get ta scoop of their chicken salad because it's the best I have ever had! We always get the hummus ... because we love it! I so wanted to love this place. The staff was great but as everyplace now they were understaffed. The 2 waitresses had to cover the entire restaurant and bar. They were awesome given it was getting busy. The food was meh. We ordered the beer cheese pretzels and meatball caprese. The pretzels were OK sauced with cheese and side of mustard. I had my first experience at Vortex today and I won't be back. A friend recommended Vortex for lunch because they have great salads. Sam, our waiter, was extremely inattentive, our appetizer didn't come until after our food was delivered, refills weren't given...we had to ask other staff to do so. When the bill came, a couple things looked wrong. There were a few up charges that weren't disclosed as up charges when ordering. When we asked Sam about this, he shrugged his shoulders and said, "I mean I don't know." Speaking to the manager, he was also disengaged, staring at his iPad when the concerns were brought to his attention. An excuse was made that Sam was new and what did we want them to do about it. Truly incredible service. We've been a few times and have always had excellent wait staff. On our most recent visit, I asked for a beer that they had tapped out of the day before. My server informed me that they had just run out, but that he would be right back. He returned with a flight of 3 different 4oz pours of beers he thought I might like instead. Came here late one Thursday night after our engagement photo session. LOVE that you can serve yourself out of the coolers (variety or cider, beer, etc) and they just add it to your tab. Downside is there are no price tags in the cooler so it's a guessing game at the end when you get your tab. Food menu is exciting for a beer/drinks place and especially diverse for Harrisburg. However, the service could use some work. There were two waitresses working and it still took quite a while for us to place our food order. Then when food came out, my fiancé's panini came out and he was almost done eating it by the time the flatbread came out. The combination of this timing and the overall poor service led to the three star review. Food was pretty good at the end of the day, especially the flatbread - get the short rib one! Terrible service. Hubby ordered biscuit (pre-made), with smoked salmon (pre-made), and fried eggs (to order). I ordered eggs in purgatory (to order). Mine came out first, hubbys came out over 15 minutes later! Everyone around us getting their food orders delivered together! They stated they deliver tapas style, when plates are ready. I asked what would take so long for two fried eggs, and the server (not the bartender, who was nice) stated that's just how it is. Well I noticed during the delay that the chef came out with a kitchen ticket and asked the server about it, and pointed to our table. I asked the server why she just couldn't tell us the kitchen made an error. And she said they didn't, that ticket was about another table, which clearly wasn't true.
