The menu looked so good but didn't live up to my expectations! Bulgogi was dry and tasteless. Chicken was better but just okay. Ahi was the best, but still just good. Service didn't help as the food took 25, 30 minutes mid afternoon when it wasn't very busy. Server was inattentive, only filled my empty water glass when asked, never asked how the food was and only asked if I wanted the check, never offered dessert. If i could give this zero stars, i would. I had a reservation for 7 pm and got there at 6:50 pm. Was seated, and I left at 7:50 because we waited that whole time and only had our waters. None of our drinks were given. The server was slow and talking over my fiancé. She told us in a rude tone that the staff would not be singing. Happy birthday to us. I was not expecting them to. Other people were getting faster service than we were. This was supposed to be a birthday dinner but left cause of the bad service. I expected better from this place. So much for a birthday dinner. I love how secret the location feels & the environment is a lot of fun. We tried multiple menu items & the reason for three stars is simply because all of our food kind of had the same taste. I want to preface this by saying my group's experience might be isolated, but I still tried to keep an objective opinion about the food and overall experience. Cute, small space that really sits in a cellar! Cool feel and good ambiance. It was very busy, and they were pretty well understaffed. The person who we did see was friendly. But that's also where I'll provide my experience, where, if you realistically can't deliver, do not over promise and under deliver. We asked 3 separate times if getting our food, getting in and out, and getting back TO our cruise ship by 830pm would be an issue. We got there a little before 7pm and were assured each time we asked that we'd be okay. Let's just say, we left the restaurant, couldn't hail a cab, and sprinted to our cruise ship, just BARELY making it in time before the boarding doors closed. Now, like I said, if we didn't ask on multiple occasions, I'd say the onus is on us. That just wasn't the case for us. We ended up having to inhale our food, only to not really get to enjoy it. Started with the nachos for the table, which were tasty. Many in our group ordered margaritas. Unfortunately, 3 of us weren't all able to try the pineapple jalapeño, as there was just enough mixture left for 1. The 1 pineapple jalapeño drink that did come out didn't taste much different than the regular margaritas, though. The margaritas weren't our cup of tea, and didn't taste much like traditional margaritas to us. They had some sort of fizzy, carbonated mixer that didn't really do the trick. My dad (a terribly difficult person to please) ordered the Tinga Fusion Burrito and he was enjoying it. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to really enjoy the burrito aside from maybe 5 minutes. My wife and I ordered an Al Pastor and an Ahi Tuna taco between the two us. We were able to quickly inhale those, and did like them. They were good, not great, but would've much rather enjoyed eating them. I did appreciate that V's allowed us to mix and match ordering multiple tacos, so that we could try them. Many places don't allow that mix and match. The kimchi quesadilla could've used some more flavor. It was average, the cheese was a tad much in comparison to the kimchi and fusion sauce. We had recommendations from multiple folks for V's. I would say our overall experience was subpar to average. We appreciated the effort, but as a suggestion, it would much nicer to set a realistic expectation for your patrons moving forward. read more

Haven't come across a Korean Mexican fusion in a while. This place is really good but has room to improve. Had some really good tacos along with the Tonga fusion burrito which was a show stopper. Disappointed with the Posole almost no flavor and no spice or trace of chili in it. Just broth. That being said their shrub cocktails are quite good and worth a try. After three days in Juneau and being fairly disappointed in the food scene I was SUPER excited to try V's Cellar. My first impression was pretty good; I really liked the atmosphere and the wait staff was very nice. I was taking orders to go and the server had the woman sitting at the bar who was playing cribbage tell me about the menu and she was very thorough on her menu explanation! She said they had a "two bite" return policy...if I didn't like what I ordered in two bites I could get something else and even said since I was taking it to go I could bring it back if I don't like it! So that's a pretty great deal in my book. I ordered the Tinga Burrito and Bulgogi Nachos one suggestion from the staff. My order came out in a good time and I booked it back to the hotel. Pretty good portion sizes ( not huge which is nice and not skimpy ) just right. The nachos were for sure lacking in cheese I found maybe two chips that had any on it and they were pretty one note in flavor. The bulgogi beef was not beef chunks but ground beef so that was a little surprising and disappointing. The salsa, sour cream, and guacamole was on the side which is great because the guacamole was brown, not just on top but gross brown all the way through and tasted AWFUL, thank goodness it was on the side so it didn't ruin the nachos. The Tinga Burrito was okay but tasted JUST like the nachos, which was weird because they had different meats and sauces but it wasn't bad just not great. All in all I wasn't impressed but I wasn't super disappointed just feeling kind of "meh" about the whole thing. read more

We were off of the cruise ship looking for good food, and our North Star helicopter guide, Brent, recommended V's Cellar Door. We were hooked, when he said Korean/Mexican fusion. What an unexpected cuisine to find in Alaska. Well, the two things that stood out for us were, the food, and the service. The popcorn, the short ribs, and the fusion tacos were outstanding. Our server, Tiffany, was amazing. She was so friendly, and quick to help out, whether hit with questions about the menu, or about the town. Our stop at V's rounded out a great visit in Juneau. I love this restaurant. It fuse Korean food into Mexican dishes. There is a vegetarian option as well. I ordered the ginger tofu in burrito and kimchi quesadilla. The lunch I quesadilla is a must try for vegetarian. I ordered the shrub margarita pomeegranite and I love the alcohol drink. I won't call the drink margarita but more of a sparkling alcohol drink with fruit flavor. You can't really taste the alcohol which makes this drink dangerous. I love the service here which I have been getting bad service for the two previous places I have been to. So good food and good drink, I highly recommend here. All the Korean and Mexican fusion dishes were fantastic. We only heard about this place because of Paul when he served us at McGivney's. Taking his advice, we called and left a message to reserve a large table and requested to have Paul serve us. Before they opened at 5pm, we received a call from Paul to confirm our party of 16. You do have to walk down a short flight of stairs to enter the dining room so keep that in mind. The place isn't too big but our large party sat comfortably along the wall with other two tops in the room. The restaurant only serves beer and wine so you can order the fruit and herb shrubs mixed with champagne or one of their pre defined cocktails. Our table ordered the Nachos, Ceviche, Taco Sampler, fail daily special of Peanut Chicken as a Taco, and an array of desserts. Everything was fantastic but the best of all was the Peanut Chicken! It's a must try, must add to the menu item!!! The seven tacos in the sampler is plenty to share. Our little boy loved the nachos and ceviche. Yikes! Where to begin.... This is my second time here, I came when they first opened a few years back and was not impressed and I left it alone. I went back for the second time today with 10 people for lunch. We arrived at opening for our reservation and were seated right away. A few people trickled in after us and the server helped them first which is totally fine. Once the food started coming out was when the problems started. The server was auctioning off food at the table because she couldn't remember who ordered what. It took about 15 mins for all the food to hit the table. The corn tortillas were raw/uncooked and did not hold up while we were trying to eat these "tacos". The meat was dry and flavorless and a few of cochinitas where down right pitiful to look at, with little meat and almost no toppings with a disappointing dryness. Unfortunately this was my second sub par experience here and probably will not be back. Good news is there is a killer grab and go curry place right next to there front door and they were able to save the day. read more

Our server (maybe the owner?) was the only one at the front of the house. It was clear that he was very busy, but he never made us feel rushed. He apologized for the wait times. But it wasn't anything I wouldn't have expected. I had three tacos - al pastor, carne, and shredded beef. Each taco had its own distinct topping - pineapple, pickled onions, cilantro. My husband had a Korean burrito. It was all so good. Portion sizes are reasonable. If you are really, really hungry, you may want to order several of the small plates. V's was my favorite restaurant in Juneau, unfortunately I will NEVER return! After smothering us the first 20 minutes, I noticed there was something floating in my water. I removed it and went about eating, but when I filled my glass again there were MANY mold spores floating in my water glass. So GROSS! I immediately brought it to the waiters attention and he said " oh that is gross. I'm sorry. Can I interest you in the desert?" Are you kidding??? No way!! He told the manager who brushed it off and never even came over. Very unprofessional!! We paid our check and left utterly disappointed! The manager was sitting at a table on the computer. She had been to our table twice before but when there was a problem she was nowhere to be found. The restaurant was pretty empty as well. I just can't fathom 1. How we notify them of mold in our pitcher of water and they don't even offer new water and 2. Why the manager decided to hide when there was a problem instead of making things right. read more

Usually Guy Fieri's DDD recommendations are a hit but this one was a miss. We waited 30 mins for a table so we thought it would be worth it seeing the place was packed with locals. We sat at 7:30pm and got our drinks. By 9:10pm we were ready to walk out because we hadn't gotten anything else- and all we ordered was 1 nacho and 1 order of tacos. Multiple tables came in after us and got their orders first. When we said we were going to leave because we had to get back to our ship- suddenly the food was ready. It looked and tasted like it had been sitting under the heat lamps for a half hour. I could have gotten better nachos at Houlihans for half the price. The bulgogi tacos were dry and tasteless, we only took one bite. Honestly we couldn't imagine how it took over and hour and half to make these two dishes. The server was very sweet and they did comp us 25% off the bill because of the wait. But I would NOT recommend eating at this place.... The tourist traps in Juneau probably have better food. read more
