I've used these guys for several years now and have recommended family to them as well. We are a Toyota family. I hate cars and it is important for me to deal with someone who I can trust. These guys have gained my trust by never trying to sell me something I don't need and by making some repairs at a very low cost because they had to charge me something. I am not an expert on cars but I can usually sense when I am being 'hosed' by a mechanic. They won't try to do work they don't feel they are qualified to do. Only being open a half-day on Saturdays is hard so it is better if you can bring the car in during the week. read more

Took my 05 Civic Hybrid here to major service done because I had over 130k miles. I ended up getting major service (replace oil, filters, coolant, etc), valve adjustment, spark plugs (8) and front brakes. Total was 30 percent cheaper than Freeway Honda. I had to drop off my car the night before because it was such a huge job but I ended up getting my car back at 1:00 PM the following day. Jeff was honest and did not up-sell. BE CAREFUL OF THE RIP OFF!!! Don't understand why so many people say this is a cheaper place. Compared to a dealer, it is cheaper. But you got better service in a dealer! Compared with other auto shops in Orange County, their price is way higher. They charge high price for very simple services. My brakepads change cost me 120$!!! I came to Vtec on the recommendation of my car's previous owners. I brought my car in for an oil change, head-light bulb fuse and a weird sound whenever I turned my car. They were really quick and fixed all the three issues within an hour. I called them before to ask for an appointment and that mad e it easy. They identified the cause for the sound to be power steering fluid gone dry. They were very friendly and I told them that I am a student and don't want to spend on unnecessary preventive maintenance and they were understanding. I was impressed by their efficiency and reliability. I will keep visiting them in the future. I recommend them to be trustworthy and very good! read more

I really love coming, I have no mechanical or technical knowledge of cars whatsoever, so I can appreciate their honest and fair business, most of the time I come here its for oil changes which cost me $18 and some change and only takes about 30-40 minutes, I have had my brakes replaced and that was around $100, now I used to get my work done at the honda dealership around the corner, oil changes cost me $45 and they replaced my brakes on a one and a half year old car saying my rotors were damaged and had to be replaced? This cost me $280 I hope they choke on every single dollar, at vtec the guy told me they do not need to replace the rotor at this point i've had the car for six years they just needed to resurface it with replacing the break pads, there are a few other things I need to have worked on on my car but they try to educate you and they are NOT pushy at all and the prices are more than fair and service and work quality is good, its a shame more people dont operate their business this way read more

Vtec will check out your vehicle and tell you what they honestly feel needs to be fixed. Their prices are reasonable and they do good, reliable work. My family has been going here for a few years and have had a positive experience. Our only issue is that they have gotten really busy recently so it can sometimes feel like you are being pushed out for the next customer in line. read more

I went to Vtec after Yelping a Toyota mechanic in South Orange County. Saw the high rating reviews & decided to give them a try. My 1996 Toyota Celica's check engine light came on so I brought it in & they did a diagnostic. There diagnostic said there was something wrong with one of the sensors. I told him that the light was on for the past week & had just turned off when I exited the freeway. The mechanic asked if I had experienced any loss in power while accelerating. I said no & he said I was probably ok. Wow! A mechanic who didn't try to sell me something I didn't need! My Celica needed to get a radiator replaced so I made an appointment a few weeks later & the charge was exactly what was quoted. The car runs better now! Nice to have a little peace of mind when going to the mechanic. read more

Holy mole. I took my car to the dealership for service and they told me that I had to change my front routers and all of the break pads. Suspicious, I asked them when the last time I changed them was and they said only a year ago! Then, they changed their minds and said that they can just resurface my routers but that I need new break pads and a new fan belt for $600 total. I passed on the dealership breaks thinking they were taking advantage of me. V did his research and decided to have me take my car to Vtec. Turns out that I indeed needed to change my fan belt and break pads but only one side of the front router needed to be changed. The front left router looked fine but the front right router was completely worn down! Anyways, I ended up paying about $530 for all Nissan parts so I saved about $150 on the job. read more

Solid pricing and work is excellent. They are a no BS shop, straight shooters. Only 4 stars though, since I tried to bring in my car for a simple front brake job ( I even have the pads, just needed labor only), and they wanted me to leave my car. It seems like they don't take appointments, so they have a tendency to get over booked. I brought my girlfriend's 2007 civic here for a 60k mile service, I was literally the first person in line at 730 right when they opene. This service consisted of fuild changes, tire rotation, etc. Not overly complicated, but one of those services where you would expect to leave your car. I get a call about 2pm, indicating that they just started working on it, and they asked me to pick it up at closing...which was 5pm. To be honest, I was a little miffed that it took all day to do this service. Work is great, pricing is great, but it left a bad taste in my mouth about the turnaround time. read more

this review is long overdue, the guys at VTEC are awesome! i found this place through yelp and would definitely trust this place to be honest with their diagnostics and price. i had a 97 integra that had a knocking in the front right suspension, the VTEC guys identified the problem immediately and fixed it for $90... i had my car looked at by a previous mechanic that gave me a difference diagnostic and was gonna charge me $180 for the service. i decided to go VTEC for a second opinion. i now have a Subaru sti and just got my first oil change here. i came in the morning and probably had to wait 45mins and jobs done (there were a few cars ahead of me). they normally service Toyotas/Hondas, but they also do basic services (oil change, breaks) for Subarus. read more

I have been bringing my Honda Accord and my wife's Honda Civic here for the past 3 years and we couldn't be happier with the quality of service and the fair prices at Vtec. Jeff and Jimmy are the owners of this shop and happen to be brothers as well. It is extremely difficult to find honest mechanics these days who won't rip you off or when they don't rip you off won't perform shoddy work. That is why it is such a relief that we found Vtec. I never feel like I am being ripped off or taken for a ride here. They are very honest in their recommendations and pretty fair in their pricing and never pressure you like other places that i wont mention by name *jiffy lube cough cough *. A standard oil change costs 20 bucks which is absurdly inexpensive when you consider that some places charge upwards of 40 dollars! Having Vtec around makes me want to keep buying Japanese cars when we have to replace our current cars in the future because they are THAT good. read more

These guys are amazing. I brought in my own oil, Mobil 1 full synthetic and asked them if they would change my oil for me and provide me with a factory filter. No problem, for $15 dollars they changed my oil and gave me a factory filter. Not only that I needed a new sway bar bolt and I asked them how much and they threw it in for FREE. These guys know how to provide amazing customer service and do an awesome job. I am a lifer now, and I never take any of my cars to independent shops.. These guys have changed my mind. Ok, I just got back from Vtec after taking in my Toyota Tacoma that has been having problems starting. Vtec came highly recommended by a friend whose family has been going there for something like the last 20 years! Keep in mind, this was my first visit ever and the guy cleaned up my battery and basically said to see how it does over the next few days and that there would be no charge! Seriously?! I would get it if I had built some kind of relationship with them over the years, but I can totally see why these guys have such a loyal fan base from the rave reviews here on yelp! read more

My car's oil pressure light had kept going on and off, and there started to be strange noises when I only was in second gear. It seemed like my oil was completely gone, which was super odd considering no major leaks, and I've ran it for ~4000-5000 miles before. Anyways, after getting oil into the engine, seems to be sounding better now. For oil changes they have a first come, first serve basis. With about 4 people ahead of me, it took about an hour to get the oil change done. and for $20, that's pretty cheap. I kinda hoped that they had done some other checks on my car, but I guess with my lack of time, they got what I asked for done. Also, just overhearing talks they had with other customers, sounded like they really just wanted to give you the best deal possible. A lady had come in thinking her brakes were bad because they were screeching, but they were still in very good condition. They let her know that she didn't need to change them just yet. Went to Pep Boys for an oil leak ant they just about wrote my van off as not worth fixing $2,700... I decided to call these guys and they fixed that leak and a few other problems for $1800! I definitely like their price and their honesty! They took me back to the shop and showed me the worn parts and introduced me to the mechanic which was cool and they got the van up and going again assuring me it it Good to Go for another 100K or so minus any unforeseen problems.
