Normally a resort restaurant would not be a great review but Vue is different. At a resort where wellness is a goal and employees are career workers, Vue is a pleasure. We had the fish tacos and impossible burger. Both were excellent and I'd eat either again The additional impressive process shown at Vue was how all the employees worked together. Multiple servers came up to ask how we were, drop off food, fill drinks and take care of us at all opportunities. One of the best dinning experiences I've had in a long long time. The hostess greeted us quickly and seating us right away. Our server Matt was incredibly helpful, detailed and knowledgeable. We ordered the short ribs, kung pao tenderloin, and lobster Mac and oh my goodness every bite was delicious . I highly recommend for date nights or girls night out. Posting a review so it doesn't seem like I showed up to flame this resort. Vue is the best food option here. After 3 days of subpar dining it was nice to have competent service, a menu with items showing any level of creativity and food prepared well and as ordered. The dining room is well appointed and as the name implies has nice views overlooking the golf course. It got a bit loud when full. I would probably give it a 3.75 rating so the aggregate rating is accurate. I'm rounding up because I'm feeling generous after sitting through the doldrums of Bob Crap Steaks upstairs yesterday Overall if you have to eat at the Omni resort this is the best option by far. read more

Well, they just reopened after three weeks of being locked down again here in Carlsbad California. The private parties keep the place bustling on a Monday night here. But I am the only one in the restaurant view. Bob's is closed tonight. The menu has multiple seafood and multiple meat dishes. And they have multiple vegetarian dishes. Previously I would come here on Easter or Mother's Day. One of the best scallop dishes I've ever had. But I do not recommend the citrus cake. It felt like it was gonna sit in my stomach for a month it was so heavy. So now I'm gonna try the key lime avocado mousse. They are very accommodating here. OK the key lime avocado mousse is very yummy. Plenty of lime flavor to satisfy me and knowing that it's an avocado mousse makes me less guilty for having a dessert. Grabbed an early morning breakfast here with my wife while my daughter slept in. Grabbed a table on the patio with an unobstructed view of the golf course. The sun was still rising and the weather was perfect. Food was great, with fresh ingredients prepared in a conscious manner. The screwdriver at 8am also helped to bring back the hair of the dog. The view is a 5 stars! The food and service however are not! I live about 1 mile away from the Omni so occasionally I like to visit for the view and a glass of wine or two ;) My most recent visit was this past week and I was not impressed with the food or the service at all. Extremely overpriced food however cocktails at Vue are reasonably priced. I ordered the Caribbean jerk chicken entree and the flavors were well put together but for the price the other half of my plate was missing! The waiter also seemed disinterested and ready for us to leave. Next time i'll stick to just drinks and the view. read more

During Sunday brunch they had really loud and annoying fake bird chirps/calls every 2 seconds. Then luckily they changed it to music. This has always been one of the best Al Fresco spots in San Diego. The new identity - VUE has taken the menu to the next level. I had the Corned Beef Hash ($17) and it was great. I would never go back to the La Costa Resort (see review of La Costa) but the food and drinks and relaxed atmosphere here was great. The service was surprisingly excellent given that everywhere else on the resort was horrid. The servers were friendly and attentive. I try to eat healthy and had the salmon which was good. Thoroughly cooked but not dry and not too much seasoning. The drinks were good but a little too much sugar. Don't bother trying to call the number because you will never get through. Better to just call from your room when you make a reservation. Spaces fill up pretty quickly if the resort is busy so get there early if you have a larger group. read more

Was lucky enough to have the opportunity to try this place out. My company had given us an all inclusive weekend getaway at the Omni Resort. This restaurant sits on a golf course so the views are absolutely stunning. If you have a chance, definitely pick the outdoor seating. The waiters are very kind, accommodating, and attentive. I ordered the chicken and it waffles, and it was the best I've ever had in my life so far. Comes with 4 pieces of perfectly fried chicken and 4 mini round waffles. Visited for dinner with friends who were staying at the resort. I was prepared to pay for valet but Valet was free. We ordered the Uchiha roll, Uzumaki roll, kung Pao, coconut curry and local halibut. The rolls were nothing special but the rest of the entrees were outstanding. Service was on the slower side but there was a 20 person table and it was a weekday so they may have been busy in the back. We spend the weekend at the Omni resort and overall a great place. The Vue is a nice place to eat for breakfast and lunch. I'd for sure recommend not to do the buffet for breakfast because it's a rip off. On our last day we had the best server, older gentleman and his name is Oscar. He was amazing, brought positive energy, full of smiles and went over and beyond. The only reason the Vue is getting this high of a rating is thanks to Oscar. Between room service, Sunday brunch and Friday lunch, my wife and I were able to test this kitchen out. They may have even cooked our company dinners on Friday and Saturday night. The food and service all weekend were pretty good. No real standouts or multiple setbacks, except the calamari, which was chewy as heck. In fact, most of the appetizers were pretty bad. The main courses were quite good and well prepared. Service was prompt and cordial and we did feel pampered all weekend. We had both dinner and breakfast here while staying at the hotel. Let's talk breakfast first - our waitress Elsa is hands down the nicest, best service we have had while at the resort. (Thank you elsa!) We had the standard breakfast plate with this add of of pastries, fruit, coffee / juice and avocado toast. It's a ton of food - easily could feed three people. Food was good (pastries were excellent). Avocado toast was ok (saw some other reviews that raves, I'd give it a 3 out of 5). My husband had eggs Benedict - sub salmon for Canadian bacon instead. 4/5. Preferred an americano over the coffee (it was either way too strong or burned). Dinner was good, but some room for improvement on a couple things 1) scallops - were perfect - the risotto / green pea mixture it came with just didn't really pair well. It was sort of under cooked? 2) The halibut was fantastic/ one of the best plates. 3) Beet Salad - we had to ask for extra pickled onions - the salad needed a balance to how creamy it was (definitely would have benefitted from a balsamic or vinegar / and more of the pickled onions to balance). You could barely taste the beets due to way too much creamy dressing. Overall it's expensive but the view is just amazing. Fun for vacation. read more

We had a terrible experience for brunch on Christmas Day. We walked in realized there was a buffet. The website didn't state this and we weren't told about this when we called to make a reservation (they don't take reservations). The food in the buffet was awful. Lots of meat that had clearly been sitting around for too long and was dry. We ordered a bottle of wine for 6 people. The server poured 5 glasses, then realized there wasn't enough for a sixth. I had the fish tacos, my daughter had the macaroni and cheese, my wife had the jerk chicken. Now the the jerk chicken was almost $20 and the fish tacos were somewhere around $15. But if you're looking to save money this ain't it. The quality however was on point. Delicious, fresh fish with a flavorful sauce with a delightful corn tortilla. All very fresh and very delicious. I loved them. My wife loved the jerk chicken and I snagged a bite. Very flavorful and cooked to perfection. My daughters food was nothing special but she enjoyed it. If you're staying at Omni la costa or even if your not and just looking for a good meal with a beautiful view of the golf course and hills with the perfect San Diego weather, I highly recommend it. Sadly it was a big disappointment to my wife and I. Our martinis were $36 for two. They were very small. They tasted strongly of vermouth. That's a bad martini. My wife ordered the ahi entree which we were assured would be seared and rare in the middle. It was gray. Like, just gray. It was supposed to come with sautéed spinach. It came with a light frisée salad on top and nobody said. My wife loves spinach. She sat there for 10 minutes waiting to return it. They came back after 10 minutes and they were apologetic and good about taking it back. That and the view are why I didn't go 1 star here. My truffle fries were good. My brussels sprouts tasted like sugar. Seriously sweet. I like Brussels sprouts. That's why I ordered Brussels sprouts. No need to make them taste like a desert. My shrimp ceviche was...ketchupy? Couldn't really taste the shrimp. We left more food on the table than we ate. Buuuuut, there's an all night shop on the premises that sells single pizza slices and they were goooood. So, have a drink overlooking the golf course on your own and hit up the shop for pizza. You'll be much happier if you do. read more

Loved the view/location of Vue at the Omni La Costa Resort but very disappointed in the food My husband ordered the Caesar salad which would best be described as average, served in a soup bowl, certainly not something to write home about. He ordered the ahi tacos, which had a nice presentation but no flavor. I ordered the hamburger and it was awful! As opposed to a nice juicy quality hamburger there were 2 patties kind of fused together and over cooked without seasoning. I believe it was around $18 ... Carl's Jr. serves a much better burger! My son ordered the Calamari and it was pretty good. Service was good but so disappointed in the food. read more

It's a great place to unwind after a busy day. The steak frites and prime rib burger are fantastic. They have a good selection of craft brews. If you're looking for a night out with a great relaxing atmosphere and even better food then this is the place! I've tried several restaurants around the area and this is where I keep coming back. My favorite place to sit is on their patio where I can enjoy one of their yummy cocktails and watch the sunset, but when that isn't available the inside seating is very cozy with a double sided gas fireplace that my kids always find fascinating. The ambiance is perfect and not only does their food never disappoint, their service truly doesn't either. My personal favorites are their hummus, ceviche and the shrimp and soba noodles. read more

I made a reservation on Open Table to eat here yesterday (the day after Thanksgiving) at 11am with our out of town guests. The restaurant gave me a courtesy phone call on Thanksgiving to confirm our table for 4 the next day. We live locally and walk across the golf course pretty regularly to eat at the various restaurants at the resort. It was a gorgeous day and we leisurely walked to the property. We arrived for our reservation and checked in with the host at 11:09. We were informed the kitchen was now closed and we would not be seated. The host was SO rude to us. I was baffled...what hotel restaurant closes at 11am on a busy holiday weekend? I let him know that our reservation had been confirmed per the phone call the day before, and he said since we had arrived at 9 minutes after it wasn't his problem. Why would the restaurant even accept a reservation for 11am if that is their hard closing time? He was not able to help us, or make any suggestions...truly odd. We ended up going up to the lobby bar, Bar Traza and explained what had happened. They were so kind and gracious and were able to seat us immediately on the patio. We had a great lunch with same gorgeous views as Vue restaurant. Again, very strange because we have been to Vue many times over the years for lunch. ?? Maybe it was a staffing issue? I emailed the hotel via the Omni website and have not heard anything back yet. This is a great property, but they have lots of competition from other hotel restaurants in the area. I would have a chat with the host at Vue about his attitude and communication style...it's all in the approach. I'm sure we will try this restaurant again sometime, but we'll be sure to book it before 11am, and for goodness sake don't be late! read more

Absolutely horrid dining experience last evening. Only saving grace was the server: Jesus. He was very friendly and attentive, and did an excellent job. I cannot say the same for the rest of the staff -- beginning with the manager/maitre de and ending with whomever put together our dinner. My wife and I were guests of the resort, and came in for dinner with our two small boys; 5 and 2. Everything began pleasant enough. Our drink orders were taken, and we were seen right away by the aforementioned wonderful Jesus who proceeded to take our dinner order. Shortly after we were seated, the hostess sat two more diners immediately adjacent to us. It seemed odd, as the patio was completely empty save for a larger party of 12 or so on the far end of the patio. Still she put them at the tiny table for 4, immediately left of ours. The diners were both male and appeared to be around 17 or 18 years of age. I assume they were at the resort with their parents, and dining unaccompanied. About a minute after the hostess seated them, they both began belching as loud as they could. I gave them a couple of looks of disappointment while politely gesturing toward my wife and boys -- hoping they'd realize this wasn't the venue for that kind of behavior. They didn't take the hint, and carried on with their belching, only this time peppering their conversation with loud and clearly audible F bombs. By now I was seriously heated, but my wife reminded me that they were just kids, and to just ignore them. By now our food had arrived, so we had some comfortable distraction -- or so I thought. We ordered macaroni and cheese for the boys -- it was gray in color, had no cheese to speak of -- none that we recognized anyhow, save for some watery gray goo at the bottom of the bowl. The boys would not eat it. We also ordered them the children's steak. Despite asking for medium well -- They were each given these gnarly pieces of blue rare beef -- complete with weeping blood puddles. Not exactly kid friendly fare. My wife and I decided they could just nibble on the pita and hummus we'd also ordered, and we'd grab them some pizza before bed. A blue rare beef eater myself, and never one to send food back -- I personally find that the absolute height of bad manners -- I decided I'd eat the steaks rather than see them wasted. I was not impressed. The meat, that I can only assume was some kind of low grade stew chuck, was as tough as leather, and absolutely awful. My wife and I weren't very encouraged about our own meals -- as we'd both ordered the steak salad that was yet to arrive. Meanwhile the shenanigans at our adjacent table continued to ensue with the benching and cursing just getting louder and louder with every disappointed glare I gave them. Soon enough our salads arrived, and sure enough -- in addition to the brown over ripened avocados, and the soggy French fried onions that clearly came from a can, our salads featured the same inedible stew chuck beef that still had the crop marks from where the jockey was beating it. Could this dining experience get worse? Oh you've no idea. While picking around our salads -- the little punk with the foul mouth and the terrible table manners gets up from his chair, proceeds to walk right around our table, and with a shit eating grin, stares right at my wife while audibly crop dusting us. For those unfamiliar with the act of crop dusting -- that's when you pass by a stranger while farting in an attempt to pollute their atmosphere. At this point I was lividly FUCKING pissed -- and ready to kick the shit out of him -- but being a 220 pound man I thought better of putting my hands on some obnoxious punk teenager -- and decided to take it up with the maitre d. I approached him and he was friendly enough, but he really didn't offer much of a solution apart from offering to reseat us elsewhere -- as if we should be the ones further inconvenienced after enduring such awful language, disgusting belching, and the obnoxious FARTING while staring my wife right in the face. I declined his offer to reseat us, and went back to my family. About fifteen minutes later the maitre d approached the table, took note of our barely touches plates, and apologized again for what had transpired, adding that he too had a family and he understood where I was coming from. He asked if we wanted any dessert, which we both immediately declined. Sensing our extreme displeasure, he then asked what room we were staying in, and when we were leaving. We told him our information, and he gave us a thumbs up indicating he'd be taking care of us -- we assumed this meant he was going to see that our meal was comped -- the one we didn't eat in the first place --and see it stricken from our room bill -- as we'd already paid the check (and despite the awful food, generously tipped the wonderful Jesus). This morning upon checkout, we were very surprised to see that our $120 dinner charge was still there. F- read more

FAIL! Food is excellent SERVICE is 1 star at best! It makes me sad knowing I spent $350 a night for a room and my 1st experience is 1 star customer service. I had to ask for utensils and Napkins 2 times, I used my dress on more than 1 occasion prior to receiving a napkin. I noticed at least 10 people working but. The food here is delicious and the service is excellent. Ramon was a fabulous server. He knew the menu extremely well and brought out the chef to meet us. He was friendly and humorous. There are ample sized portions so you won't leave hungry. Durigg our stay here we ate here 2 nights. One night I had the fish tacos and one night the coconut curry vegetables and requested chicken to be added. My friend had the Greek salad one night and the pesto chicken the next. All meals were delicious and very flavorful and fresh. The calamari appetizer was excellent. We left full and satisfied both times. In the warmer weather they have a beautiful patio with golf course view for dining. It was winter and cold so we ate indoors. Indoor dining was noisy so I gave one less star for noisy. The prices are reasonable with several options under $20 for the entree. A variety of menu choices. read more
