I've been here so many times during snow boarding season. My group comes up like once week. I'm in town for forth of July weekend. I don't think I'll be coming back. They're on a reservation only policy at the moment and they told me I couldn't place an order to go after 6pm. The food is good. Their policies are unreasonable. We stopped in on a Friday night. We were happy to find a couple of seats at the bar which had a nice vibe. Our bartender Brittany was very friendly and efficient. We ordered dirty martinis which she made perfectly cold like we requested. For a second drink I ordered the Aperol Sprotz and it was very good as well. We were excited to order the beef carpaccio as we thought it was excellent last year and obviously unforgettable. Unfortunately, they changed the recipe and it just wasn't the same. Instead of the little round potatoes, they changed it to hash brown sticks. It wasn't as creamy and flavorful as last year either. Such a bummer. The salumi pizza with red sauce, calabrese salami, capicola, speck, parmigiano reggiano was still tasty. The crust is really delicious. We also ordered the Chicken Parmesan which was very moist and flavorful. We like Vulcania but it is a little pricy for the portion size. I realize it is a ski mounts town and everything is more expensive here. I do hope they change the carpaccio recipe back to the previous version. read more

I wanted to try this place because I'm a fan of Top Chef and the Voltaggio brothers. I was slightly disappointed by how rude the hostess was. The server was super attentive and made up for the rudeness but nonetheless, was a bit bummed with how much attitude I was given. We were staying at the Westin Monache and when I found that Michael and Bryan Voltaggio had a restaurant nearby we had to check it out. We were lucky enough to have Natalie as our server and she took excellent care of us. We started with the calamari with the most excellent marinara dipping sauce. It was so good we almost ate it all without taking a picture. Then we shared the Margarita pizza and the crust tasted of garlic which we loved. Again the same excellent marinara sauce and fontina cheese. The restaurant had a great vibe which is what you would expect for the Voltaggio brothers. The food is absolutely wonderful- by far our favorite in Mammoth when it comes to fine dining. They do have staffing issues (mostly off season) but people, it's mammoth. It's not LA, and although I've never personally had service issues (everyone has been lovely), you should come for the food, let the night be slow and enjoy the vibes. There's no TVs because it's all about who you're with and indulging quality meals. They can be the busiest spot because of how good the food is so give the team a break. I was so excited to try a Voltaggio brothers restaurant. Ambiance is wonderful! Food was beautiful, taste was just okay. Portions were generous ... too generous. The server suggested that two of us order 4-5 dishes meant to be shared. We ordered the Caesar salad, which was enough to feed 6 people, and overdressed. The caprese salad was different - great burrata and pesto, the cherry tomatoes were cooked and chilled. The accompanying Parmesan rice crescents were very odd and chewy. Last night I called to order takeout. The woman who answered said she could take my order and asked my name. She then asked what I wanted. I started with Chicken Parmigiana, and she said she would have to check with the kitchen to see if I could order it out. A minute later she retuned and said that they could not do any takeout because they were busy. I reminded her that she said she could. She said sorry and hung up. I cannot recommend Vulcania. We ended up ordering takeout from GOJIRA Ramen & Sushi, and it was wonderful. read more

One of my favorites restaurants in Mammoth. The food is fantastic, service is excellent (hustling with a smile), and the ambience is great. Haven't tried dinner in one of the pods which looks fun too. Fantastic birthday dinner for me!!!! We had the spaghetti Arabiata, brussel sprouts, fungi pizza and tiramisu. Yum! We had dinner here during our Mammoth getaway. It's a very busy place because of its popularity with not just tourists but also for locals. We're glad we were able to book a reservation. We actually wanted to sit at one of the outdoor igloos but we were told that reservations were months ahead so maybe next time we visit. So we ordered the following to share: SALUMI $28 Crushed San Marzano tomatoes, calabrese salami, capicola, speck, parmigiano reggiano VOLTAGGI-O'S $24 A version of the canned childhood favorite. Annelini pasta, tomato gravy, and a giant meatball They're kind of expensive which is understandable because it's located in a popular tourist area. It's worth it though because we enjoyed both items. They're unique and delicious. We also love the service provided and the ambiance at this restaurant. Wow! Food and service is so wonderful that we decided to eat lunch here 3 times and dinner twice. For lunch the tricolore salad was fabulous! So many flavors in a simple salad. The buratta caprese is a don't miss. Amazing flavors again! The rigatoni and spaghetti- incredible. Cooked perfectly. Pizzas are amazing with a perfect crust. For dinner the chicken parmigiana and salmon were fantastic. Once again full of flavor. The top notch service compliments the amazing food. The hostess Marie is always smiling. This past year my wife and I got into a bunch of competition food shows, and we love watching the Voltaggio brothers. I've often overlooked this place since I usually don't eat in the village, but we will definitely be back! Came here for lunch with the family since we forgot to grab a reservation for dinner. The lunch menu is pretty limited but everything was done well with fresh quality ingredients. If you're a mushroom lover like me, then the fungi pizza is the best. Funky and creamy goodness packed with yummy mushrooms. The crust was cooked to precision with a nice outer crunch and light and airy on the inside. The tricolore salad was super refreshing and colorful. Mozzarella sticks were really solid, the cheese blend they use is delicious and the bread crumb batter was perfectly crispy. Calamari was my favorite app, the lemon garlic aioli and pepperoncinis elevate the dish to the next level! I'd pass on the rigatoni next time, it was good but nothing special. The ribeye steak add on was cooked to your preference and nicely seasoned. We loved the elevated modern interior decor and the center bar was a beauty to look at. We were looking for a nicer dinner spot to try while in town to celebrate our anniversary. We were so glad we stumbled across Vulcania. Despite being pretty busy on a Friday night, service was excellent and our server made great recommendations. We started with the beef carpaccio and I cannot express to you how beyond delicious it was. We have had this dish many times before at other restaurants and this was far above any beef carpaccio we have ever tried. Don't skip this! It was mouth watering. Same problem, same joke of a place. This place wouldn't survive on any mountain. Maybe a food hall is most appropriate. Avoid and go somewhere else for a great experience. Came here to give another chance with some friends from LA. Understandably this is a mountain town, and Mammoth is not somewhere I'd expect trendy food or a foodie vibe....I would at minimum expect a friendly front house staff. To the manager at Vulcania. You should be ashamed of yourself. I had one of the worst experiences I've ever had at Vulcania in Mammoth village. What should have been a pleasant dinner that was reserved a month in advance for myself, my husband, and 8 year old daughter quickly turned into an uncomfortable and upsetting situation due entirely to the manager's behavior. From the moment an issue was raised, the manager was shockingly rude, dismissive, and confrontational. Instead of listening or attempting to resolve the situation professionally, he spoke over me, showed clear hostility, and made me feel unwelcome. It was not just poor customer service -- it felt personal and targeted. It was pure discrimination staring at me in the face. It was so hostile the hostess was in shock. Even more concerning was the way we were treated compared to other guests. The difference in tone, body language, and overall treatment was impossible to ignore. No customer should ever feel singled out or discriminated against while simply trying to enjoy a meal. Hospitality starts at the top, and unfortunately, the management here sets a terrible example. Until there is accountability and serious improvement in how customers are treated, I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. I will not be returning. read more

Had a res. for Tuesday and they called to cancel due to plumbing issues. So we made one the next night. They called the next day again to cancel as it was not resolved. However, we walked by during our res time later to see they were serving. They said it was a "soft opening". Really wish they would have offered that to people with reservations first! We really wanted to try it, as they were doing their soft opening we sat at the outside fire pit by the village and they rudely asked us to leave(even though nobody else was using it). Opened by the Voltaggio brothers, the restaurant is nicely decorated and the food is overall good. I enjoyed the cheese pizza and the Voltaggio pasta which had a nice elevated twist to childhood canned pasta. The tricolore salad had a nice tangy bitter flavor and crunchy texture to it and it was refreshing. We tried the branzino which I felt was overpriced for what you get. It comes with a filet of branzino with a bunch of cauliflower sides cooked in different ways for $40. While the branzino was cooked well, the sides didn't complement the fish. I was expecting to get the whole branzino for this price. Service was attentive. We had no issues. The desserts were on the sweet side especially the tiramisu. The salad, pizza and pasta were all worth a try! read more

Made a reservation for a Friday night and they were packed. A bit chaotic and I initially got rubbed the wrong way when the host helped the group behind me even though I was next in line standing right in front of her... Once we got seated the waitress was amazing! The food was very good. We got the Vul-tagios (similar to spaghetti-os), caesar salad, and margarita pizza! The meat in the pasta was moist and seasoned excellently. The salad was already dressed perfectly. The pizza was the lightly crispy with a thinner consistency (which I enjoy). I just thought the cheese was a bit chewy where if I took a bite, it dragged the whole cheese off my pizza slice. The tiramisu was very very good! Not your average tiramisu. The cake is a date cake with some nuts and a crunchy layer in between the cake and cream. Amazing though ! read more

On our latest trip to Mammoth, was excited to check out this restaurant opened by the Voltaggio brothers. The Top Chef alums have always been interesting and fun to follow - and definitely wanted to see what they were bringing to Mammoth. Conveniently located in The Village - as you walk up, they have the outdoor igloos, which can seat anywhere between 6-8 I believe. We were sat at a table inside - but may opt next time to choose the igloo experience outside. Restaurant was buzzing, we were seated for a party of 7 towards the back of the restaurant. I liked the choice of stemware they offered - more of a modern casual vibe they were going for (no stem on my wine glass). Great choice of wine. Went for a few of the options the server recommended. Had to go with the Voltaggio lamb ravioli bolognese, a couple of the margarita pizzas,and the pastas. The standout was the spaghetti and meatball and the margarita pizzas. I found most of the dishes to be slightly over-cheesed (which cheese lovers may welcome) and a tad over seasoned. But all in all - a great addition to Mammoth. I say this as huge fan of the Voltaggios...if you like tomato sauce, this is your place. The lunch menu was such a yawn, we chose to have apps: beef carpaccio, cheese sti...er, smoked mozzarella frito, and ham and pineapple (the menu's lonely example of their humor) but the Caprese showed up. I can sum up the three dishes we had as "tomato sauce three ways." It's a really well-balanced sauce, but come on guys, where's the Ink spirit that brought us burnt wood ice cream and creamed corn ravioli? If you're near the Canyon lodge village nice cool place to dine at. They have Igloo seating if you're into that stuff, but require advance reservations. If you love cheese pizza it's pretty good with tons of melted cheese. Voltagio-O is a take on kids pasta with a creamy sauce and meatball slapped on it. Tricolore is more of a crisp and bitter salad due to endives, radicchio and arugula and grape fruit. If butter is not your thing you might consider passing. Branzino is not like your classic while fish but more of a strip filet. That was ok. Desserts gelato swirl ice cream good but the donut was ok. We had a pretty good meal here while we were in Mammoth. We tried the tricolore salad, some pizzas and pastas - all were decent. The place is apparently run by celebrity chefs - Voltaggio brothers and is probably one of the best restaurants in the mountain town. Will return next time we are in town. read more

Went to dinner on memorial weekend and they were extremely busy. We added our name and sat down, and our server, I don't remember his name but maybe mid 40's gentlemen made it a great experience. We had some issues with the food coming out in a timely manner and he went above and beyond to get us set up with food and drinks while we waited. Five star service in light of some difficulties, and that's what you want to see when it comes to service. We've been dining at Vulcania for years during Ski School week -- always booking well in advance, treating the staff kindly, and tipping generously. Unfortunately, the service has never matched the setting, and this last visit was the final straw. While the restaurant benefits from a prime location and limited dining options in the area, the hospitality has consistently fallen short. It often feels as though the lack of competition allows service standards to slip. In all my years working in hospitality after studying hotel and restaurant management, I've rarely encountered a team so unwilling to accommodate reasonable requests. Simple asks -- like placing tables next to each other or borrowing an extra chair -- are met with an immediate "no," not because they can't, but because they won't. The atmosphere feels rigid and rule-bound rather than welcoming and guest-focused. Thinking back, I honestly can't recall a time a staff member greeted our table with genuine warmth or even a smile. This most recent visit was especially disappointing due to the level of unprofessionalism -- particularly from management -- and it ultimately convinced us that we won't be returning or recommending the restaurant. Dining out should be fun, relaxing, and memorable. Vulcania is none of that. read more

Was really excited to try food from the Voltaggio brothers. Unfortunately, there is nothing gluten-free on the menu (I even asked the host and he said "yeah, nothing is really gluten-free"). Quite surprising and very disappointing. Does the management not realize that they are turning away business not just from GF folks, but any group of people that includes a GF diner? But if you're going for the igloos just be prepared to be disappointed by the food. It's super over hyped and the hype made me trust their quality. Both seafood dishes were super fishy and not fresh (to be fair it's a mountain town so I should have known better, but the hype made me trust them). Normally I wouldn't both to leave a review for just a mid experience (not to terrible but not great) but given the price point and insane wait times it's worth noting as there's so many other great options around. This is my Go To spot when in Mammoth. We have been coming here for Four years. I love the pepperoni pizza. It's hands down my top favorite in Cali. Our waitress tonight was Jasmine. Phenomenal service! She recommended a mint in my Hugo Spirts. Wow. It was delicious. I loved that is snowed while we were eating and it made the ambiance that much more romantic.
