I don't know if it was supposed to be a serving spoon, but I for sure ate it all with the provided metal spork because it felt on theme. We tried the spaghetti 0 with a delicious home made meatball , the lamb ravioli, shrimp scampi risotto absolutely delicious the swordfish fish Piccata sooo yummy and the squid ink pasta with crab delicious as well. They are staggered when delivered they say they are shareable , didn't not see anything exciting on the dessert menu so We passed. Service was good. During a girls trip to Mammoth, my friends and I had a reservation for dinner at Vulcania. Reservations were made for the outdoor igloos. I was excited to eat here since I'm a fan of the Voltaggio brothers and have never dined in an igloo. We were seated right away and our hostess was kind enough to take our picture once seated. The igloo experience was cool and we were pleased to see there were blankets and a heating system in the igloo creating a cozy ambiance. The menu had a decent selection and something for all the dietary needs of our group. I ordered the caprese which was made with burrata, tomatoes, pesto and aged balsamic. It was served with 4 slices of toasted bread. The addition of pesto in the caprese was a nice touch. I also ordered the funghi pizza made with taleggio, mushrooms of the day,fontina, and mushroom hay. I really enjoy mushroom pizza and was pleased with the flavor. However, we did have to remind the waiter about our order. It appeared to have been forgotten and arrived 15 mins after everyone else's meal. The cheese and mushrooms were all located at the center of the pizza leaving too much dough without enough toppings. I would have liked more toppings on each bite. Overall service could have been a little quicker but the food was delicious. read more

My husband and I were looking for a dinner spot on a Thursday night and we didn't make any reservations so we decided to try Vulcania because we wanted Italian. Wesley in and were able to sit at the bar immediately. The beef carpaccio is good if you like tomato sauce. I'm not the biggest tomato sauce girly so it would have been better without it for me. We got an Orchiette pasta. That one was so worth it and my favorite. Black seashell noodles immersed with crab and a light white sauce with an echo of spice. It wasn't uncomfortable spicy it was delish! We got a pepperoni pizza which was SO soft and juicy and CHEESY. Highly recommend getting the pizza. It even tastes good the second day. They use little cup pepperonis like Prince st pizza. Finally we got the risotto which took a while to get to us but was very good when it came. The shrimp was juicy and large but we def over ordered for two. If I had to choose I would choose the Orchiette over the risotto. Pizza is a must and carpaccio is ok! Walking in the vibe is 5/5 it is beautiful inside and there are so many special touches. We loved the onyx with the backlight on the bar it was stunning. We are HUGE voltaggio fans and we're so excited to try this place out. Buratta was incredible the pesto and the tomatoes were truly some of the best I have ever had and I was in Italy last year. The ravioli was a bit disappointing because there was too much cheese but it was still good. The gelato swirl was so incredible and I loved the puffy of the donuts that came with it. Overall the prices were great food was good and I would go back but try a different entree. Our server was wonderful and the food came out fast and it was hot. We were impressed. I felt the need to give more detail to my first review. We have been dining at this restaurant every year, since its opening, during our school's annual family ski trip to Mammoth. Our group includes several families who reserve tables around the same time so our children can be together. We've been loyal customers for years, we spend well, and we tip generously. This year, the experience was unacceptable and very disappointing but not surprising (more on that below). On the day of my reservation, I received a call from the manager at 5:00 p.m canceling my 8:00 p.m. reservation -- one that had been made over a month in advance -- citing "internal issues." When I asked for clarification, the manager claimed they were short-staffed and unsure if they would even be open the following evening for the same issue (when we had another reservation for my daughter's birthday). Silly me, I believed this was the actual reason. Shortly afterward, other families in our group began receiving the same cancellation calls. When one parent went to the restaurant to ask for clarification in person, she was treated dismissively and rudely. The explanation then shifted from "staffing issues" to an accusation that our group had been rude to staff -- a serious claim that was never substantiated and had never once been raised with any of us previously. To cancel multiple reservations made well in advance, change the reasoning, and then broadly label an entire group as "rude" without specifics is deeply unprofessional. We have never received complaints about our conduct anywhere, and to be collectively dismissed in this way felt both unfair and targeted. We have overlooked inconsistent service in past years because dining options in Mammoth can be limited and we genuinely enjoy the food. But good food does not excuse poor management or disrespectful treatment. Management sets the tone for an establishment, and this situation was handled poorly from start to finish. We will be taking our business elsewhere moving forward and cannot recommend this restaurant based on how our group was treated. read more

This is hands down one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to. The staff was wonderful, and even though they were absolutely slammed last night, we still received exceptional service. We started our meal with a perfectly strong Old Fashioned and a fresh, flavorful Caprese salad. For our entrées, we shared the Chicken Parmesan and the Shrimp and Crab Risotto--both were absolutely delicious. We ended the night with a rich and decadent Chocolate Tiramisu, the perfect sweet finish. Everything was plated beautifully, and I wish I had taken more pictures to capture it all. One thing to note: plan ahead! They don't accept same-day reservations, and by the time we arrived around 6 PM, the restaurant was packed. Definitely worth the visit! read more

As a fan of the Voltaggio Brothers, I was excited to try their Italian food while in Mammoth. The location in the village was convenient. The restaurant was spacious and modern. Service by Sam was impeccable. I enjoyed the margarita with the addition of an Italian liqueur, lemongrass and a rosemary salted rim. I only wish it were bigger for the $18 price tag. Our wedge salad was deliciously unique with Italian dressing, pickled cherry tomatoes, a Gorgonzola cream and crispy pepperoni topping. The crispy skin King Salmon was rare in the center, but so tasty that I would certainly order again and ask for a touch more doneness. It was tender and flavorful with the addition of piccata sauce and capers. The accompaniments were broccoli rabe and gnocchi. The gnocchi was more like a potato ball than a potato pasta. The plate was beautifully presented with a potato crisp. We finished with the panna cotta topped with cherries and pistachio crumble. Everything was fantastic. All the wait staff were so friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. Simple ingredients put together so perfectly. Even the cheese pizza that our young son got was bursting with flavor. Our favorite was the carpaccio! So tasty and just a perfect marriage of textures and flavors. The interior is very open and there is an island of a fully stocked bar for those Apres ski needs! Tried to get a table. Told it would be 2 hours at least. Place was half empty. Ok, I get it reservations and all. Self seating at bar so we did that. Only three seats next to each other, so one of our party was standing. Told we can't do that (we are a fancy you have to sit restaurant) someone was nice enough to slide down so we sat. Ok, great fancy restaurant with rules this should be great service and food. When we ordered our food we were told in This restaurant we don't bring your food out at the same time, we bring it out when it's ready. Ok, weird, but I'm sure it will be close together. An hour later part of our order didn't show. Oh and during that time bartender spilled a glass of water on the bar and me .. was nice enough to apologize , but handed me dirty rags to clean and dry all myself. No one came to dry the floor under my feet. Back to the part of the order that never came. Finally the bartender told the manager we were missing part of our order. The manager came over made a bunch of excuses and said it would be out in 3-5 min. Another 20 minutes later still not out. We tell them forget it we are leaving. In the mean time It finally came out. They comped the cheapest part of our meal. So all in all $250 for mozzarella sticks, spaghetti 0s two salads and chicken parm. Oh and also my wife left her phone. I called to ask if she had left her phone, i was told no, went back to check anyway and guess what they had her phone. Vulcania has one undeniable advantage: location. Sitting in the heart of the village, surrounded by crowds and limited dining options, it enjoys a steady stream of customers almost by default. Unfortunately, that advantage seems to have replaced any real commitment to hospitality. We made reservations about six weeks in advance to dine with friends. We had two separate reservations but requested to be seated together. When we arrived, the restaurant was roughly 50% full, with clearly open tables available--yet we were told we could not be seated next to each other. No real explanation was given, and to this day it still doesn't make sense. Things didn't improve from there. We brought our three-year-old daughter at the last minute and were told our reservation would be canceled unless she sat in a high chair. Apparently, pulling an additional chair to the table was "not allowed," despite the restaurant being half empty. The interaction felt rigid and unnecessary, especially for a family-friendly setting. The food itself reinforced the feeling that efficiency mattered more than experience. Meals arrived almost immediately after ordering--so quickly that it was clear the food was pre-cooked rather than made to order. Even more frustrating, dishes were brought out one at a time, not together. The shrimp scampi arrived first, followed by a roughly 20-minute wait before my daughter's chicken tenders appeared. No one at the table was able to eat together. Overall, the food was serviceable but café-style at best. The bigger issue, though, was the service and attitude. From the host stand onward, the staff gave the impression that guests were interchangeable and largely irrelevant. There was no sense of warmth, appreciation, or flexibility--just the feeling that they wanted our money and the table back as quickly as possible. Given the prime location and constant crowds, Vulcania may not feel pressure to care about individual diners. That may work for them, but it doesn't work for us. We had four additional reservations scheduled for later in the week, including New Year's Eve. We canceled all of them. Dining out should feel welcoming, especially on a trip meant to be memorable. Unfortunately, Vulcania left us feeling rushed, dismissed, and unwelcome--and that's not a place we'll return to. read more
