Mirai sushi has nice interior with floral wallpaper. A curvy staircase leads to higher level of seating. Standing sushi bar has glass in front . It's more or less the kitchen to make sushi. Menu has few Japanese food items n good variety of sushi. Appetizers start from $1.50 - $5:00 Infact they have 6 pieces kappa roll for $2:00 n lots of other items. We ordered some Mexican spicy seafood sushi which was a generous portion. Ramen we ordered was not bad either but wasn't the best. I must say it's the most decent Japanese restaurant in that area. High ceiling, open bar, the ambience is great! We got seated immediately on the 2nd floor when arrived at 12:45pm on a Friday. I've ordered 2 items from chef's recommendations: - Mirai special chicken on rice $13: it's like teriyaki chicken with immitation crab meat on rice, topped with some lettuce and spicy mayo. Large portion and taste great. But I feel sauce is lil too much and it got heavy and greasy in my last few bites. It's good to be shared and mixed with some light sushi/salad. - rainbow roll $10: It's like how an ordinary rainbow roll is. No surprises there in both good and bad ways. Not sure what's so special that makes it to chef's recommendation though. Few things they should consider: 1. Add some picture to the menu especially on items that are lack of descriptions. 2. Put a buzzer on second floor as music could get louder downstairs and waitress are less attentive to upstairs. We didn't get our tea until we asked for it and we had hard time getting their attention to get the bill. Really a 2.5 The seating is good, music is a bit loud. There really isnt much to the food. It's simple and overpriced. I think the owner is a bit cheap. 1)The miso soup was big but only had 1 overly big piece of tofu and it's the firm and not the soft type. Firm tofu is less smooth and cheaper. 2) The california roll barely had avocados and didnt have any toppings i.e. sesame. 3) The teriyaki in the bento box only came with veggies and not rice. 4) The bean sprouts were not cooked, which I liked I eat pho all the time with it, but I guess so they take up more space on the plate. When it's cooked its wilted. If you don't care for value or too much about the food and just want a place not busy, nice to sit at with friends then its for you. Service was alright. Wow what an amazing experience! Came in on a random chance. The staff are amazing. So friendly. The chef even made me personalized tempura and served it in person. The service was amazing. Very disappointed with the level of service we experienced here last night. From the moment we walked in until we paid the bill, it was a constant battle to try and get anyone's attention for service. Not something I'd expect from a place with such beautiful ambiance. They also forgot about our miso soup. When we asked about it, they apologized and said they would comp them but they were already free anyway with their current promotion. Food was good but nothing really stood out. We ordered the VIP combo (lobster roll, rainbow roll, 2 pieces of salmon and tuna nigiri - $24), Lion King Roll (spicy tuna, avocado, yam tempura, spicy and mayo sauce - $7 I was told this is their most popular roll), takoyaki, and sunomono tako salad. We were disappointed with the lobster roll, the lobster meat was deep fried in tempura batter which ruined the freshness I was hoping for - in the end it tasted like your regular prawn tempura. If it weren't for the flow of sake, I would have left even more disappointed. read more

Visited Oct 24, 2016. Unfortunately, we did not have a positive first experience at this new restaurant. Here's what I found lacking compared to other sushi restaurants: - no lunch specials - service was slow even with the restaurant about 30% full (our last dish came about 15-20 minutes after ordering, not ideal for a quick work lunch, we got the feeling they are still getting their operation down) - the Las Vegas roll was average at best, it is a California roll with a spicy Sriracha sauce (?) + panko flakes - Mirai tower was presented decently but took awhile to come out - spicy salmon and tuna sashimi came in small pieces, flavour was decent but the quality and quantity is much better at Sushi garden or Sushi California for the same price point - no plates provided upon arrival of sushi - no miso soup was provided as per their lunch sign on the sidewalk A positive note is that the decor is elegant but unfortunately not enough to pull us back for a return visit. I personally think they will have a hard time competing with Sushi Den and Tsuki Sushi Bar down the street. read more

I am giving this restaurant 3.5 stars as their menu should be more unique and food is priced above average. However the food we ordered was made quite well. I especially loved the assorted tempura that has a sort of fluffy, light, crispiness to it. Highly recommend it and if you want a mix of Korean and Japanese choices this is good. Price was reasonable and food quality was awesome. I always eat sushi first to determine the food will be good or not. So far I got over 95% accuracy and here sushi was pretty great but not as Isami sushi. But in downtown, it is really hard to get really great sashimi skilled nigiri sushi. So glad that I could find this spot :) We ordered more sushi and pretty satisfied with tastes. Definitely will go back. However, their service was not quite good. My five star was given to only for food, not the service. I waited long time to get menu and even I asked for it. Tables are pretty empty but servers didnt know what to do. Ordered beef yakisoba with 1pc of tamago nigiri. The sushi rice was good but the rims of the tamago was hard/dry. Overall good size of tamago for the price. Yakisoba was very, very greasy. The sauce was similar to teriyaki sauce but a lot better. I definitely tasted butter in my yakisoba- which I thought was odd. Over cooked the vegetables and the noodles were drenched in oil. Good portion of the beef though. Service was very good. read more

My friends and I were looking for a place to eat and we found ourselves in front of Mirai sushi. Clean and aesthetic with good service. Not a bad place to try sushi they certainly have very nice dishes but they are a little overpriced. I probably would've gone with a 3.5 if I had the chance. But unlike most places, their veggie bento was delicious and filling with good portions and good choices. I'm pleasantly surprised and definitely recommend the veggie bento if you're not in the mood for sushi. read more

UPD: the owner has changed and it's bad, very bad. They make wrong rolls. Who the hell make rolls that you're forced to bite and can't actually grab with chopsticks? It should look beautiful but it should be possible to eat them as well. And yes, miso is worse now, the choice is weird, because no matter what you order is some weird stuff that is not very tasty and hard to eat at all. My favorite sushi place in the city. After I moved I was trying to find a good sushi place but I found Mirai only 6 months after trying something decent. Mirai is probably the only one good sushi place in Chinatown and Gastown. Rolls are very good here - they're perfect size, don't fall apart, as everywhere else, very fresh. I constantly try different ones and I've never been disappointed. And I like how the serve it, very beautiful. I think it's a really good place if you want to have good sushi in a good looking place. They serve green tea for free, it's very good! I have only two issues here: 1. Music. I think that would be WAY better if they play Japanese music (or something like that) instead of upbeat modern pop music which is super annoying and doesn't really let to relax at the end of the day. 2. Please, don't bring the bill until you're asked to because it looks like that you just want to get rid of a person. Overall, everything is good. Recommend this place! read more

This is my new fav sushi place in the hood!!!! it's cheap (they have a $5 lunch special for two rolls, and miso is on the house - but maybe only in october? i didn't look too closely.). it wasn't busy at all during lunch, which means the food was FAST. and it was _so_ tasty - even on the $5 menu!! my friend had a bento box, and couldn't finish it all. the only issue we had was our waitress didn't speak english, so it was hard to ask if the salmon was wild, but she went and found someone who knew. (not wild salmon on the $5 menu, but they do have sockeye hooray!) i will definitely be back. read more

Yum!!! What a great new addition to the neighbourhood. I was nervous to try this place because I am very fussy about sushi and it has seemed empty since opening but I think that people just don't know about this place yet. We ended up doing takeout and the food was delicious! EBI mayo was light and crispy, special rolls were amazing and well presented. Restaurant is nice too but lights were on bright... Likely to just draw attention to their opening. Music could have been more atmospheric but again, likely because it's not too busy yet so they just had the radio on. Will definitely be revisiting especially before word gets out! read more

Very friendly staff. Food was served very quickly. Fresh and very tasty. Usually in sushi restaurants you get a cup of tea with any meal but here I got a glass of water, kind of strange. The food was very good though and didn't leave me bloated. read more

Good sushi experience, but nothing special. We were excited to see this new sushi spot open in our neighbourhood, and were impressed by the large menu and nice decor. Unfortunately the service was a little less than we'd expect (short-staffed, not particularly friendly or attentive when available). The food quality was good, and priced well for what we got. I will definitely go back and enjoy more delicious menu choices, but wouldn't take out of town guests here. read more

I have been to Mirai for takeout and dine in and they consistently serve fresh, good quality, reasonable priced sushi . For the equivalent price of fast food you get a great dynamite , negitoro or rainbow roll . They are my favourite in the area and the restaurant is clean and immaculate . read more

I came here opening week, and the only downfall was that it was exceptionally busy (due to opening specials ect.) So an order that takes 5 mins, took 30, but I can understand as they just opened. It's going to be busy with $5 specials. Not one thing wrong with the service I was given, in fact the owner apologized more than once and assured it would be out shortly. Even after reading some of the more skeptical reviews, we came into Mirai really optimistic. It sits in a very interesting space and just down the street from the arena. The miso soup was good but when it came the sushi itself we have had much better. You would think being less than 5 minutes from the Pacific Ocean that everything would be fresh but it was quite the opposite. My girlfriend had what was supposed to be a California roll and a few pieces of Salmon Nigiri. Ultimately, that came out as 2 not-so-fresh Tuna Nigiri, 2 small pieces of older salmon stacked on top of each other. My roll came out 5-10 minutes later and somewhat warm. May have just been an off night, but I think next time we will spend a little bit more money and go to one of the several other sushi places in the neighborhood. read more

Housed in the old Wild Rice space at 117 West Pender, this gorgeous space has been lightly re-themed but is otherwise unchanged. The food, however, is a significant departure in cuisine and quality. Beware the sushi restaurant garnishing with parsley. Medeocre sushi; serviceable, but classic inedibly-large rolls stuffed with filler, paired with gyoza straight out of the deep frier. Although we had waited for at least 15 mins, while we were there, then tried to re order, they told us they were now closed 20 minutes before their actual closing time. Grabbed a booth and ordered two bento boxes (veg and beef teriyaki) and a spicy tuna maki. Miso soup came out quickly, nice flavour and not too salty, but lacking bits of tofu. The bento boxes were beautifully presented and decent sizes but didn't include rice to soak up the teriyaki sauce. Everything tasted fresh and flavourful. They even have Organic GF Tamari sauce. Service was hit and miss, but very friendly. How could I not return? There's even a loft for private parties and a good drink menu. read more

I loved the vibe of this restaurant! Their menu has lots of variety (udon, bento, korean food, etc) so people without experience with sushi can definitely come and enjoy. Sashimi was fresh and resonably priced. Their special rolls were beyond the expectation! They were priced below $8 and I think they should be around $10-12 range. They also have variety selection of alchocol and sprits. If you want an elegant Japanese/Korean dinner, you should definitely come. read more

This place was incredible. Super fast service, and absolutely delicious sushi! Our group of 8 didn't phase them, we all got super different items and they still came out very quickly! Some of us got the fancy rolls and they looked better than any photo, and tasted delicious! My husband and I are a little less adventurous, and ordered California rolls and shrimp tempura, and these were large and delicious! They didn't skimp on the filling. We also couldn't get over how cheap the bill turned out! I wish we lived closer so we could get our sushi fix from this spot. The same order would have been triple the price from any other spot in Seattle, where we live. Absolutely delicious sushi! Don't miss it! read more

This is one of my favourite sushi places in gastown. The service is always prompt and the food is consistently fresh and delicious.

Mediocre sushi with horrible service. I've given Mirai chance and chance again to wow me, and I'm sorry to say that today was the final straw. We arrived during the lunch rush, which is fine and slower service is expected in some cases, however we were given our menus and then left alone for more than 20 minutes until I had to call a server over. We placed our order and were then given our miso soup another 5-10 minutes later. By this time the lunch crowd had started to clear out. No one cleared our soup bowls and it took another 10 -15 minutes to receive our food. My partner and I ordered the exact same meal (Box A with salmon avocado roll subbed in for the California roll) and their meal arrived 5 minutes after mine. Once we finished eating we were again left waiting for anyone to acknowledge our presence, and it's not like we were tucked away in the back of the restaurant, we were up front near the doors. As we tried to call a server to come over and bring our bill, my partner lifted his bento box to help clear our table, and the server was intercepted by another server and no one cleared our table. We finally received our bill and paid and left unsatisfied. NO sushi service should take an hour. Sorry Mirai, I won't be coming back. read more

Finally had a chance to check out Mirai and we are glad we did. Very beautiful space and much more upscale feeling than your typical sushi restaurant in Vancouver. Prices were very reasonable and the service was attentive. If you are typically going to Momo Sushi or Sushi Den, check out Mirai and enjoy the non-rushed atmosphere and the great sushi. So I used to love Mirai. Like they gave me this stamp card where 20 visits equals $20 off your meal and I almost completed it! They had a recent period where they were closed for renovations. I assumed when they reopened the decor would be better (although it already was a beautiful restaurant) and I would be even more impressed. I was wrong. The bar where I previously used to frequently eat now has the sushi production line so I can't sit there. Aside from that, I ordered my regular sashimi box which was slightly different than normal in the menu description but sounded fine still. When I received it, my sushi nightmare occurred. Rolls that are so big you have to eat them in 3 bites :( Sushi in my opinion should be one bite pieces so you can taste everything together and for ease of consumption!! I was thoroughly disappointed and the food was ok but not nearly as impeccable as before. New management I guess. Sad loss to my favourite spot, might not be back. read more
