Jake from W2 is such an honest guy! When we bought our house last year, the previous owners had a termite inspection done and everything had passed. I called Jake out for a second opinion (we had used him at our previous house) and he told me upfront that we actually had termites and the previous company had not done their job. I called the manager at the other company and showed them Jake's report and they came out and admitted they didn't treat and repair what they were supposed to do. If Jake hadn't told me, I really wouldn't have had any idea. Also, there was another time I had a swarm of bees on the side of my house and I was worried for all the kids walking home from school by my house. I called Jake and he stopped by that day and treated it no extra charge. He comes quarterly for general pest treatment and does a great job. Really nice guy. read more

I found Jake the owner of W Squared via Yelp....he has been awesome on the repairs of the house and we contracted with him for the tenting. What I don't understand...is that when I yelped him....there were many reviews on here all positive for his company....now Yelp has deleted them. I asked Jake why...apparently Yelp is getting into the money hungry business of trying to get $$ out of businesses for advertising with them. I thought yelp was all about "we the people" leaving our honest opinions on businesses. Shame on yelp!! Please don't delete my review!!! Also, when he was here, he told me that he also did regular pest control. We have been plagued with ants, spiders, beetles and who knows what else, but I've always heard it's expensive and the companies always want a contract. Jake explained that for $400/yr....he will spray now then on a sch of every three months...AND THE BONUS...if I see any bugs in the interum, call and he will come spray when needed. I signed....he sprayed.....and I can't believe it, but I havent' seen a bug since. wow. I will post again after the termite tenting is done. His wood repair work was beyond reproach! I was selling my house and needed a termite inspection, so I called W Square. He came out on March 19 and inspected my house, he told me I needed to have my house tented. When I told him I had it tented a few years back, he replied I need to see the paperwork and than I will only need to spot treat. He also mentioned I had fungus under my eves and he could do the repairs, replaces two 4 x 8 sheets of plywood and remove and replace the shingles for $1,500. He than stated that I had a RAT infestation in the attic evidents of snail carcass indicated pregnant RATS OH MY GOD! He said he could take care of it immediately. He charged me $125.00 for the inspection and $275. to get rid of the RATS. I immediately wrote a check for $400.00. After telling my husband the story he suggested that I get another opinion. The next day I had another inspection they were unaware of the inspection by W2. They told me that this was the cleanest house they had seen in a while ZERO termites. He also mentioned a mouse trap in the attic that looked new thought it was strange, I asked if there was evidence of a RAT infestation and he laughed. I than called a contractor to look at the FUNGUS and he said NO fungus found. The next day the owner Jake of W2 came by my house to check on his MOUSE trap and found the buyers inspectors there and processed to tell them that I had fungus and the housed needed to be TENTED for termites. He was very knowledgeable and explained the difference between subterranean and the other type of termites. He then showed us the evidence of the different types of termites in our house. Ever regret not going with your original intentions and things not go as smoothly? I planned on bidding out several fumigation companies. W2 was first at bat. The rep made a good first impression and made it clear that pricing would be flexible with any other bids. The quote was in the neighborhood of the same 13 years ago, so I reciprocated the willingness and showed my appreciation for the up front honesty by agreeing on the spot. Without going into details, apparently it was too much to verbally review implications if you have safes or a satellite dish. You are expected to read what you sign, period. The response I got was, "I'm sorry you didn't read the paperwork," despite my reciprocation choosing this company that I thought also reflected my trust. I should've read the docs, fair enough. But to get that kind of response despite was insulting. Got the job done otherwise, would've chosen another route given the circumstances. read more

Jake once again has risen to the top. Like some other reviewers, I had a post purchase inspection after noticing some damage when we removed a tub to convert to a shower, as well as some termite droppings when we ripped up the carpet. I called Jake after looking on the 'Yelp" site for reviews and found W2. Jake responded to my call and informed me that he was in the middle of an inspection, but would fit me in later on the way home. He arrived in the afternoon and it took him all of 10 minutes to find both subterranean and dry wood termites, something the termite inspector "later to be named" failed to do during his inspection as part of the real estate transaction. Jake moved some appointments around to accommodate us, as I had explained our needs, having to move with an autistic child. Needles to say, they were over this morning taking care of the subterranean pest problem and our house will be tented on Monday. Jake has customer service down to an art, the other termite guy was defensive and stated that since we were going with someone else, he was in the clear. I would not trust him to service my house, since he failed to notice the problem in the first place. With only 2 days of interaction with W2, I have referred them twice to potential clients, and I am sure these poor people will find a caring helpful resource when facing a potentially troublesome pest problem. If you need termite service, I would recommend Jake and W2 to anyone, just based on his professionalism and customer service. read more

I called W Squared after receiving a pest/termite inspection report from another company. Jake came out right away and did a much more thorough inspection showing me several areas that the previous company had legitimately missed. Jake gave us a recommendation as well as several options that were budget friendly. He even pointed out a few things that I could take care of myself to save money. As was pointed out elsewhere, Jake did a very good inspection and was a very enjoyable guy to interact with for his entire visit for the inspection. When it was all complete, he told me he'd give me two estimates, one for spot treatment, one for tenting. I admit I was leaning toward tenting as he provided me the two estimates, the spot treatment being $750.00, and tenting approximately $2,400.00. So the next day, got my email estimate and it only had the tenting estimate on it (apparently he felt that was a done deal). I informed Jake that after conversation with the wife, we were leaning towards spot treatment rather than tenting since our intention is to move in four to five years, and we'll deal with tenting, if necessary, at the time of sale with all our possessions out. So Jake promptly provides me an updated estimate for spot treatment......for $1,400.00. Upon questioning what happened that it went up double from his original estimate, his story was there were some access issues in the attic. Well, nothing about the attic access changed from the day prior, so I don't know how that could have been such a big issue. My practice is to always get three estimates and I never tell anyone what my other estimates were. Spot treatment from the other two inspectors, $675.00 and $800.00, respectively...demonstrating in my eyes, his original estimate was far more accurate, but apparently there must be a lot more margin in tenting. Anyway, needless to say, I'm going with another company. Too bad, had he played it straight, I would have had more confidence in him/his company. Now God forbid if there was an issue with roof tiles, my solar, whatever, I'd have no confidence he'd be square with me on it...no pun intended. read more

I needed to get a timely termite inspection in order to do a VA Refinance of my home. I originally called a highly recommended local termite company that said it would be 4 weeks before they could get to me. I called W Squared and Jake answered the phone. When I asked if he could do an inspection for me, he responded "How about this afternoon at 2:00 PM?". He came out, arrived on time and conducted the inspection. After discovering some isolated termite damage, I asked if/when he could do the repairs. He scheduled me for the following week. Long-story-short, He was fair, straight forward, honest, and reliable. I was particularly impressed with his use of high-grade lumber (Pressure Treated), good communication and high-quality workmanship. Jake was super awesome. He is very courteous and professional. He is also really knowledgeable and honest. I had an appointment one week, and lucky me on that day it rained so I contacted him to reschedule and it was absolutely no problem, he got back to me right away and we got a new day set up. He came on time and did the job within the time he said it would take. I needed to combat the spiders and ants that had taken over my property and he helped fight back! I haven't seen an ant since. It's been a month since his service call.... he suggested that it could take about 2 weeks to get the results. But yea, I have not seen any ants whatsoever. The spiders inside the house have also disappeared (just your regular house spiders). I had a huge problem with black-widows and brown recluses in my yard (the house is a relatively new buy and my yard was a jungle).... so the spiders were very abundant. They have since gone away. I think I've seen maybe 1 in the last month.... it was hiding under my grill cover though, so I can't hold that against the exterminator =) Along with me hacking down my jungle.... I had a few dead trees that I had cut down and left the wood laying around... I was going to use it for firewood but Jake noticed it was termite paradise and recommended to just get rid of the wood. My house has been tented 3 years ago and Jake took a look around and wasn't concerned about my house's integrity, but explained how termites love SoCal and that I should make my property as unfavorable to them as much as I could, which means, get rid of all my dead trees! I had promised Jake that I would write this sooner so I apologize for the late review! My husband and I are first time homeowners and have recently run in to a rodent problem. After talking to a few pest control businesses Jake was the only person who not only showed up on time but was able to give us a resonable quote to seal up every potential entry spot in and around our home without binding us in a year long contract. He showed up and did an exemplary job and even went above the job by spotting some shotty work done by the seller's termite pest control company. I've used W Squared for quarterly pest control for my home in La Mesa for about 3 years. Jake is hands down the most reliable professional from any industry I've worked with since owning my home! He is always on time, communicates very quickly and clearly via phone or email, and he's great at what he does! His treatments have kept out home free of ants and spiders through several seasons. He changes his formulas based on the pests that year/season. He is attentive to our needs with a dog, a baby and a vegetable garden. Our service has also had to include treatment for fleas and mice. The worst!! Subs out all his work according to the company he subbed my job to (Beneficial Exterminating). That company hit my car with their ladder causing a $1550 dent in the side, failed to double bag one bag of spices costing over $300 to replace and masking taped their notice to my stained door which took off the finish - another $1400 to repair. Although they have agreed to pay for the door and food in several emails, they now won't answer any of my emails and I have had to pay all the repairs out of my own pocket. But back to W2... Jake Wheeler lied to me over and over including telling me the bag of food mentioned above was taken outside and it was perfectly fine to eat the contents (it wasn't taken outside so the food was tainted by pesticide), told me that "by law" I could only have 10 bags for all the items I had to bag up (not true) and said Beneficial had no spare bags and that was why they could not double bag the last bag (they bagged up other items I missed so again... not true). So I called Jake after noticing a large amount of ants around my back patio crawling in and out of the main post that holds up the roof. Not knowing who to call, I of course brought this up with some friends at work. One of my co workers told me he just had to have their whole house tented for termites and they used a new company called W squared termite and pest management and he was very happy with their work. He told me that while Jake was out there he spoke about how they don't only do termite's but all pests (I guess that's why its part of the name lol) anyways I called w squared and spoke directly to Jake. He came right over and diagnosed my problem. Sprayed for ants and and everything else. He explained how they offer a yearly warranty that will cover any and all pest problems now and in the future and how their warranty is better and cheaper than the competition. I strongly believe in doing business with the "little guy" whenever possible and for the most part I find they care more about their work. This was no exception. Jake is very knowledgeable about his business and is not pushy, he gives you your options and lets you decide. The other thing I like is that when you call you get Jake not somebody at a call center 5 states away who has no Idea what an ant even is. read more

Wow, what an experience! We knew termites were out there but hoped we would never have to deal with them ourselves. Then one day I came home and poof there were like a thousand little termites in my living room (most dead already). I freaked out and started calling places to come and take a look. I contacted 4 different companies all from yelp. We ended up getting our house fumigated by W Squared and we just couldn't be happier with every aspect of their service. From our initial inspection with Jake, till the tarps came off. The service and professionalism was truly amazing. I even had some last minute questions and emailed him around 10:00pm the night before the fumigation and he immediately emailed back, it just shows that he really cares about his customers and really wants to assist them in any way he can. We really appreciated the fact that Jake was anything but a pushy salesman, giving us ample time to weigh our options and let us make the decision.
