The restaurant is small and has a few outdoor seats available, but do expect some wait times on peak hours. We put our names down on the clipboard near the entrance. We were sat inside and a visual of how the mazemen should be eaten was drawn on a chalkboard of the wall of the restaurant. I ordered their Tokyo Mazemen which was a spicy version which included marinated minced pork, a poached egg, chives, scallion, garlic, and fish umami powder. My friend ordered their cheese version. The ramen noodle is perfectly al dente and thicker than your average ramen noodle (almost like udon). The sauce coated the noodles everywhere and they do not skimp on the garnish. Using the leftover sauce, they gave a small scoop of white rice to mix in. As it was our first time, the staff kindly instructed us to customize our bowls with vinegar halfway through the meal for a new flavor. I tried it, but I prefer how it comes. We also ordered French fries and their Mogu chicken. The chicken had a reddish sauce drizzled on top that was lightly sweet. I liked that it stayed crunchy throughout the meal. A very carby meal to say the least, but the mixture of toppings and customizing your own bowl to your liking makes the experience much more enjoyable and interesting! This is delightful and delicious spot. It feels like a neighborhood hangout spot. The restaurant specializes in mazemen and ramen. I had the California Tonkusu Spicy ramen and my husband had the Spicy Miso. Both came with the creamy broth, so flavorful on its own but oh so yummy with the perfectly jammy egg. Their Mazemen is so delicious - it's a noodle dish served without broth and instead with a sauce and a variety of toppings. It's recommended that you mix everything up really well and then halfway through, you add vinegar for a new taste! They also come by with a scoop of rice near the end of your meal so that it can be mixed with the leftover sauce!!! It's basically three variations of your meal in one! I was visiting the Orange County area, and I decided to check out Mogu Mogu. I had never had non-soup based ramen before, so I was excited to check it out. We arrived to Mogu Mogu around lunch time, and although there were people inside, we were seated fairly quickly! We also were allowed to select our seats. I ordered the Tokyo mazemen. They initially served it with all of the noodles on the bottom with ingredients (scallions, an egg, etc.) on top. Because it was our first time eating mazemen style ramen, our server told us that we needed to mix our food for about 30 seconds before eating, which we did. The ramen was quite delicious and unique--I have not tasted anything like it before. The tokyo mazemen had a bit of a spice kick to it, so I would not recommend it to individuals who cannot handle any spice. I also ended up adding a bit of vinegar into the dish, and I definitely believe it enhanced the flavor. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Mogu Mogu. I might be biased but Mogu Mogu is the first and only place I've had mazemen. If you haven't had it before it's a broth-less noodle with toppings. It is a heavy meal overall and does have a lot of garlic (something to note if you're not a fan). You grind sesame seeds and add some vinegar to cut the grease and heaviness, and then eat a small spoon of rice with the leftover meat/sauce. I can guarantee you'll be full and satisfied if you finish the entire bowl. It is a rather small restaurant with only a few tables, so do expect to wait if you come during peak times. I had some high hopes since I don't usually eat ramen without broth and I also really enjoy curry, but it was pretty salty and really spicy, so I got a pretty bad stomachache afterwards. I would highly recommend the deluxe ramen, it was very flavorful and the noodles were cooked perfectly al dente.
