We were in the mood for Thai food after our workout and decided to head to Hanuman Thai Eatery. We saw there were several locations in the area and we didn't want a long wait so we headed to the Newport location. I loved that there was ample parking and how well the restaurant was decorated. Hanuman's Ceviche (5/5) - This ceviche was so refreshing and delicious. The yellowtail was paired so well with the mango, pineapple, and shrimp chips. Pad Thai Boran + shrimp (4/5) - This was a solid pad thai that typically only includes firm tofu and egg for protein. We added the shrimp which were plump and juicy. Gai Todd Hat Yai (4/5) - Fried chicken wings with sticky rice and fried shallots. These wings come freshly fried and with a sweet chili sauce. The server recommended that we grab a little bit of sticky rice, dip it in the fried shallots, and enjoy with the wings.
Nice indoor seating. They also have outdoor seating but it could be chilly. Glad I was able to sit inside. Loved that they had an online waitlist. I added myself to it on my way out the door so that by the time I got there, I only had a short wait. Our waitress was super friendly. She was pleasant and cordial but disappeared toward the end when new customers arrived. We came here because the menu sounded interesting with unique Thai dishes plated so beautifully. I wanted to try them all! We ordered: Hanuman's Ceviche - Almost too sweet but it was delicious. Loved that it's served with shrimp chips. Crying Tiger - My husband really enjoyed this one. Gai Todd Hat Yai - Loved this so much! The crunch of the chicken and the fried shallots. The sticky rice was too sticky. It was challenging to eat it. Better to have just plain jasmine rice. Khao Soi - Gorgeous plating. Wasn't sure what the toppings were and it wasn't specified on the menu. Definitely something spicy and the green stuff was tart. Very filling. I would like to come here with more people because there's so many dishes I want to try!
Came here at 9 pm on Thursday, not too busy, was seated very fast. Got the ceviche to start, was very nice and refreshing. The Tom Yum Beer was kind of gimmick-y but wasn't too bad. For my entree got the Pad See Ew, was pretty decent, pretty much as I expected. Only downside was the server took my fork when I was in the bathroom between appetizer and entree and never gave me another until I asked. LOL
I loveee Hanuman and am willing to wait to eat here! Thankfully, the wait isn't too long especially on weekdays. This time, I got the massaman curry, which was so yummy especially with the Roti, which was so flaky and light. I also really liked the Gai Todd Hat Yai, which came with delicious crispy chicken and the perfect sticky rice with fried onions. They also do a collab with the restaurant next door, and the Tom Yum Crudo was so unique and amazing! You have to get this! I love the sauce and how they really incorporated Tom Yum into the dish.
This restaurant was on my visit list for a couple months and it did not disappoint. It exudes an intimate atmosphere filled with Thai culture. Think cute and quaint with the expression of Thai cuisine. The dining room is on the smaller side, but embraces a cozy ambiance. If you want a little breathing room, the alternative is the outdoor patio where they offer larger tables and a spacious setting. Upon entry we were greeted and taken to the interior dining, we eventually decided that dining outside would be more to our liking and they quickly helped us relocate. Our waitress was friendly, social, and very knowledgeable. She was ready to provide descriptions of anything on the menu and expressed to us her favorites, which is helpful when you are faced with choices that all sound amazing. The menu is intentionally concise, not extensive, which we figured out once the food arrived why this was. The food has a visually captivating appeal and is even more delicious than we could have imagined. It is too bad they don't have pictures on the menu because all the food was beautiful played and a true feast for your eyes! A must try is the Thai Sausage from. The appetizers. It is cooked to perfection with a crunchy outside and tender inside, this sausage should not be passed up. Served with aromatic spice, ginger, onion, peanuts, and sprouts. Masterfully composed with the interplay of textures, just flawless! A great pairing with your meal is the Thai Tea. Typically, this is very sweet in restaurants, but they hit the mark with this harmonious blend. A plus is they have the soft chewable nugget ice! Another do not pass up is the Son-In-Law Eggs, thinly/lightly crisped exterior of a deep fried egg with heavenly caramelized tamarind glaze. Absolutely brilliant pairing with the shallots! Definitely an appetizer to remember, chef's kiss! We also had the Pork Fried Rice with subtle notes of garlic and soy, mixed with greens and onion to give bursts of color and texture. A fresh lime squeezed over the top gave it the perfect finish. My only critique here would be a slighter hand of salt for those who are watching their intake. Don't forget the Banana Pudding dessert because it is a delightful and velvety creamy custard with caramel sauce and cookie crumbles on the side, topped with whip cream. The food respects tradition, embraces refinement, and is simply exceptional. I can't wait to go back to try some of the other dishes they offer!
Hanuman is seriously the best Thai restaurant I've ever been to. I realllyyyyy like Thai food so I've been around to most places in OC and LA and even at famous places in New York and elsewhere, but Hanuman clears all of them. I mean I haven't been to Thailand yet haha, but I feel like this is as close as I'm gonna get. Specifically their khao soi absolutely clears every other khao soi I've ever tried. It's SO rich, creamy, and I didn't know such strong flavors could exist in a dish. From the perfectly cooked egg noodles to the most tender flavorful chicken to all the little veggie garnishes, but especially that spicy curry broth, wow it's truly the perfect dish. I've ordered this one every time I come here and even for takeout, and it's consistent in how perfect it is every time. Second favorite dish here is the massaman with hangar steak. The curry in this one looks similar to the one used in the khao soi, but it actually tastes completely different! The curry is a bit lighter which could be better if the khao soi might be too rich for you, and the hangar steak is definitely the star of the show. Cooked perfectly and amazing with both the rice and roti that comes with it. Mee klook noodles are a bit sweeter if you like that sweet savory combo. The desserts here are soooo good here too and actually feel worth the money. Service is always so friendly, even one time we got seated 45 minutes before their closing and we felt really bad, but the servers were so kind and we always feel taken care of here. Will never stop recommending Hanuman to everyone I know!!! I feel like the word has gotten out already so there's definitely always a line, but trust me it's soo worth it!!!
This excellent place is tucked in the corner of a strip mall. Come early because it fills up fast. We got there at 5:30 so there were plenty of tables to choose from. We started with the Crying Tiger beef ($20) and Tom Kha Gai soup ($18). The beef was really tender. This is my favorite soup and unfortunately you can't order just an individual bowl. My MIL and niece didn't love it, so the rest came home with me! For entrees we ordered Pad Thai ($19), Pad See Ew ($17) and Sweet and Sour Salmon ($22). Both noodle dishes were delicious and my MIL loved her salmon dish. It was light and citrusy with a pineapple salsa. My niece also ordered a dish To Go. The staff was really attentive, continuously refilling water. It's a very small place and they have a lot of staff taking care of you. Bill was $200 with tax/25% tip for three people, no alcohol.
Massaman Curry with the ribeye steak, w/ roti. It is the perfect combination. This has got to be a top 5 thai restaurant in Orange County. My biggest gripe about thai curries is the lack of texture despite having some of the riches flavors of all their dishes. THIS HERE!! Satisfies all my senses. Smells fragrant, good curry consistency, flavor bold, nutty, coconutty, then the char on that ribeye is perfect. As a side you get crispy light roti the perfect compliment to the dish. If you drink alcohol have a thai beer pairs perfectly with the dish. I still think about this dish when I'm not eating it.
A small intimate restaurant with amazing food and really friendly staff. It wasn't super busy and we still had to wait about 20 minutes on a Wednesday evening. The food is very elevated and done very well. I enjoyed the curry with steak and it was a perfectly portioned, flavored, and cooked dish. The staff did a great job helping with multiple celebrations that were happening at tables throughout the restaurant.
Wowwwww 100/10 experience. I brought my date here for his birthday and we had a blast! Food- 100/10. He got the Thai shrimp curry and I got the pork egg noodles. Both were amaaaazing. I wish I could eat the pork egg noodles every day of my life. We also got the special green Thai tea and wowwwww was it good! We also ended with the Thai tea creme brûlée which was delicious. The service (100/10) was even better than the food. Honestly some of the best service I have ever experienced. Ethan was our waiter and John also went over and beyond to help us too. Like the second we put a piece of trash down on the table, someone came and cleared it for us. They consistently checked in and got us everything we needed. The big kicker was they even brought out a birthday Thai tea creme brûlée (which was so good) and played a special birthday song. All just over and beyond amazing. The restaurant itself was clean, very nicely decorated, and fun. Maybe about 15 tables. We went for dinner on a weekday so we were sat immediately. I'm not sure what the wait is on weekends. Plenty of parking as it's in a shopping center. We will absolutely be back and can't wait to try more dishes! Thank you all so much!
Came here after hearing raving reviews from many friends. It's been in the area for a while but I finally was inclined to trying it with a friend who was newly in town. Wait was around an hour, so we went to Crossroads and killed some time. We were seated outside and helped immediately by our waiter, Johnny. We were given a great rundown of the entire menu - what items are most popular, personal favorites and insight into what dishes are ideal for sharing. We ended up ordering the Tom Kha Gai and the tofu pad see ew. It was my first time ever having Tom Kha Gai, needless to say, it was delicious, and the portion was also good enough for 4 people total. The pad see ew was also great, probably the second best I have in, first being Dean by Dean noodles in Rowland Heights! The ratio of tofu, broccoli, eggs and noodles was great, honestly I am still thinking about that pad see ew and am tempted to go later this week for a plate... We also got the thai tea which was good! Given we we seated outside, there still a lot of room between tables so we didn't feel cramped by any means, I will note that if it gets cold, there aren't any outdoor heaters (that I saw), so just make sure to have a jacket! Service provided by Johnny was great, very awesome waiter and checked in on us a handful of times to see how we liked everything. I will definitely be coming back here again and providing updates with any new items I try!

There is a reason that Hanuman Thai Eatery has the ratings that they do. The food here is THAT good. Whenever we would pass by the area, there would always be a crowd of people waiting, which deterred us in the past from going in to try them out. Finally, after timing it just right, we were able to miss the rush and get seated right away. For appetizers, we got their fried chicken " Gai Todd Hat Yai" and it was crunchy and made fresh to order. It was still steaming hot on our plate. There was no way I could have eaten all this with the sticky rice and the sauces with a spoon and fork. This had to be a use-your-hands moment. The combo was just divine. For the main dishes, we ordered the Khao Soi and the street noodles. The Khao Soi, while aesthetically pleasing, did not stand out to us as much as street noodles. The street noodles were refreshing and did not feel too heavy. The foods here fall on the sweeter side of Thai food. Service was quick and the staff always had a smile and indulged me with more limes when I asked. There were continuous check ins and water refills without me having to wave them down! The ambiance is warm and welcoming. It's a smaller restaurant so seating inside, it could feel cramped at times but a fun place to people watch and listen in on the first dates that are happening. We also got their tea, which I think is overlooked but delivers on the floral flavors! We got the Peach Blossom tea and we were not disappointed. A great spot that I would frequent if only the wait wasn't so long and I lived in the area. Timing your visit to avoid the rush could make the experience worthwhile.
I went here for a friend's birthday dinner and I want to give a big applause to the staff that work here as they were super accommodating, attentive, and so sweet to my group. This location is on the smaller side, which made the atmosphere feel more intimate and perfect for something like a date night, anniversaries, or just a friend hangout! We got an array of food but I really loved their Pad Kee Mao, it was so tasty and I loved how everything was seasoned perfectly. I genuinely have no notes other than I will be back to try more of their food and I also highly recommend trying their Mango Sticky Rice Beer to complement the food (it was citrusy, bright, and paired nicely with the food we ate + it also did have notes of Mango Sticky Rice which is crazy). It was my first time here but certainly won't be the last! read more
Overall the best experience at a Thai restaurant ever. Our waitress Jessica was absolutely wonderful. Always smiling. Always checking if we had everything we needed. That's the customer service we need nowadays and felt blessed to be in her presence so thank you for that amazing service. The food was exquisite. I was already going to try their panang chicken and to hear that it's award winning made it even better. The curry was amazing. Not terribly spicy but it had a good kick to it. You won't burn your tongue lol. The chicken was grilled perfectly. Mixed with the curry sauce made it all taste just amazing. I didn't try the banana pudding myself but my friend loved it so I'll have to try that next time. Make sure to join the waitlist because this place gets busy! We came for dinner on a Sunday and had to wait around 40 minutes, so keep that in mind if you're coming during peak time. We ordered the Gai Todd Hat Yao, Khao Soi, and Panang Curry. The Gai Todd Hat Yao was definitely a must-order, the chicken wings were super crispy and really flavorful. The Khao Soi had a beautiful presentation, and the broth was rich, flavorful, and coconuty. The Panang Curry was good, but I do wish the chicken had a bit more seasoning and was cooked more into the curry for more flavor. The inside ambiance is really nice and cozy, and the servers were attentive throughout our meal. I will be back to try more dishes next time. read more
Review 17/365 Day Challenge Came here on a Friday evening to celebrate my anniversary w my bestie also 1.23.26 My friend that we were coming with said that this was one of her fav thai restaurant but the Bristol location. Wished it was spicy, served w fried shrimp chips . $ 28 ~ Tom Yum Koong was filled w lots of veggies like mushrooms & lemon grass sliced up than shrimp $ 24 ~ "Gai Todd Hat Yai" fried chicken was battered and flavored like a sweet taste. No spice to it, don't let the red color fool ya. Suppose to be like a thai street food, served w sticky rice $ 24 ~ Crying Tiger, has 6 filet mignon slice pieces $ 24. Tender but This was a huge disappointment since didn't have much flavor along with the sauce that was drizzled on top of the crying Tiger. ~ Thai Tea Creme brûlée $ 8 was good. Smaller size, creamy n torched perfectly. Can't really taste the thai tea taste. It was complimentary on the house since they knew we were each as a couple celebrating our anniversaries. Enjoyed it family style type of dinner. We had a girl & boy server. Didn't get the girls name who was explaining the restaurant popular dish and got the guy servers name, March was his name. Staff were really friendly, attentive w refilling our water cups. We received our food in a timely manner. The restaurant was nice, romantic dark like a date night type of vibes. Decor was nice & distinctive. With bamboo sticky rice holder and much more greenery nice decor hanging from the ceiling. There is an outdoor patio seating w heat lamps available and bistro lights hanging around the courtyard looking area. Which is located right in front of the restaurant. I'm laos ethnicity and really familiar w thai/laos food. Along my cousin owns a Lao/thai restaurant in Garden Grove. I had really high HOPES for the restaurant. Since this was my choice to come here for dinner b4 our show. I felt this is more like an Americanized Thai restaurant. Not too much authenticity on some of the dishes we ordered. TIP ~ get on the YELP WAITLIST on the YELP APP. Will save you tremendous of time. Right when we got there around 6 pm, we checked in and were seated right away. FYI There's a 90 minute seating time frame when it's busy. On a Friday evening. The restaurant was getting filled pretty fast and full house by 7 pm. i love hanuman!!! everything is so delicious and everyone is so nice. came here for a late birthday celebration and didn't expect them to blast the birthday song. for food we got the panang curry with the hangar steak, pad see ew, ceviche, drunken noodles, and the mango sticky rice. every dish is a 10/10. i like this location more because it's less busy. will be coming back soon ~ read more
Be prepared to wait long unless you go at an off time because this place a little small with limited indoor seating, but is very popular for good reason. I came on a Friday night around 8pm (I thought I would beat the dinner rush) and still had to wait a little over an hour. Their first location is usually busier than this second Newport one. But the food is so worth the wait. Everything is seasoned to perfection and the stir fried items have the smokey charred wok flavor you want and crave. This is the 2nd Hanuman location. This location is less crowded, and has much more seating. The inside is small, but they have a ton of outdoor seating. I ordered the panang curry with beef $24- 4 stars, pad see ew with chicken $17- 4 stars, gai todd hat yai aka fried chicken with sweet rice $20- 5 stars, khao soi $21- came with a chicken leg and did not taste like anything special- 2.5 stars, pad thai with shrimp $22- it was stir-fried with a lot of small pieces of rubbery tofu which was off-putting, and the noodles were thinner than usual and soggy- 1 star, Hanuman's ceviche $25- very fresh but small portion- 3.5 stars, and Hanuman's fried rice $18- savory and flavorful, with small pieces of lap cheong/ Chinese sausage- 5 stars. The food here is not as good as their original location on Bristol St., so if you're craving Thai food, go there instead. Overall, 3.5 stars but rounded up to 4 with the customer service. Great and amazing food!! Throughly surprised on how much I loved their ceviche. It was fresh, not fishy at all. The chips were a lovely surprise and the fruit made the dish feel fresh and not too heavy. Their pad thai and pad see ew was on the sweeter side as the server noted to us. They encouraged us to use additional vinegar and spices to enhance the flavors! Everything was so yummy! We'll def be back again. read more
Hanuman delivers bold flavors, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it perfect for both date nights and casual gatherings. The Crying Tiger was excellent with tender, juicy meat and a nice sear with just the right amount of spice to let the flavor shine. The Manmasa curry leaned a little sweet for my taste, but the bread was crisp and satisfying, and the steak was cooked beautifully with a solid sear. The fried rice was delicious, especially paired with the Thai chili sauce that came alongside it, adding a great kick and depth of flavor. The standout dish of the night was easily the pad see ew, which was incredibly flavorful and the best thing we ordered. Service was extremely good throughout the meal and felt attentive, friendly, and professional. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it a great spot for both a date night or a casual gathering. I love Hanuman Thai Eatery so much! So I first discovered this spot as it made it to the top Yelp 100 list. This is their second location and I tend to favor this one now simply because the wait is less ridiculous. Quality is still pretty top notch. FAVORITE ITEMS: - Khoa Soi: creamy soup filled with goodness and a generous chunk of chicken in the soup! Loved every bite of this. - Kra Pao: my husband loooves this dish and gets it everytime. It's savory and basically ground meat with fried egg over it. - Hanuman Ceviche: I bit the bullet and tried it last time (b/c it's pricey). But fresh fish and flavored well, with the shrimp chips was amazing! - Drunken Noodles: very hearty and delicious. The noodles are think and flavorful. PARKING: it is located in a plaza and you should have no issue with parking! PRICE: on the pricier side, but you do feel like the experience you get is elevated. Overall, I can't ever refuse to come to Hanuman because every dish you have there is a banger. Can't wait to come back! read more
Love this place!! I went because the wait was only 20-30 minutes on a Friday night, when it was 1 hour and 40 minutes at the Costa Mesa location!! I've been wanting to try to khao soi and it did not disappoint. Very good coconut flavor and the chicken was sooo tender and delicious. The fried chicken was also amazing. Came here with friends on a Saturday for lunch and got seated immediately. They suggested this restaurant so I was pretty excited about it! For 4 people, we got the Crying Tiger, Panang Curry, Thai Fried Rice, and Drunken Noodle. Crying Tiger - My friends liked this dish when they got it before, so we got it this time. I thought it was just okay. The flavor wasn't anything memorable or unique. Would not recommend this dish, maybe get something specifically unique to the restaurant like soup/their green papaya salad. Panang Curry - I thought this was pretty good but also generic. I was suprised that they didn't do anything special to incorporate the chicken in the dish. It was just grilled and placed onto the curry. The server told us that this curry won an award and should have a peanut flavor, but I didn't taste any peanut flavor. LOL maybe my tastebuds are just busted. Thai Fried Rice - I liked how flavorful this fried rice was, probably the best dish of the day. Maybe because I haven't eaten fried rice in a long time but it was pretty dang good. The basil added great aromatics to the dish. Drunken Noodle - Great as well! Maybe I just like carbs haha. The flavor wasn't very spicy even though we got it mild. I would even get medium next time, but the noodles were nice and tender. Super delicious! Overall, I probably wouldn't come here again because there wasn't anything special to me. The fried rice and noodle dishes were great but the other dishes were mediocre. ALSO, my stomach hurt pretty bad after this meal which it never does. Probably would have given it a better review, but the stomach pain was insane after this meal. read more

Wow wow wow! The best Thai food I've had in YEARS! We had clean plates after we left! The son in law's eggs were so flavorful. The papaya salad was one of the best I've ever had. The drunken noodles with chicken was to die for! The I wing on top was the saffron omg! Service was epic! He was so attentive and great energy! The restaurant is very quaint and the decor is beautiful. My husband kept complimenting the silverware! Definitely a hidden gem and I highly recommend it! read more
i love thai and have heard good reviews about this place for a while so I wanted to give it a try- food was Amazing!! i got the ceviche as an appetizer with my friend and it was delicious - perfect mix of sweet and sour. papaya salad is always a must when i get thai and this one did not disappoint. the main item i was excited for was the wings and sticky rice. i personally think regular white rice would have blended better but that's just my preference. unique texture and flavor that tied my experience together. the service was very nice and attentive too, and the restaurant was clean and you can clearly see the environment aesthetic is well-put together. great for future night outs with friends. read more

Seriously top 5 meals of my entire life and I don't take that lightly. Every dish had the most insane burst of flavor and authenticity, and was beautifully presented. Decent Thai food spot in the OC! I've tried this food before, but this time we ordered the Hanuman's Ceviche, Panang Curry with Shrimp and Mango Sticky Rice -- all totaling to around $80 with tip. My favorites were the Ceviche and Mango Sticky Rice. Ceviche was super fresh and the mangos were great quality. The curry with the shrimp was tasty too, but nothing too special. The service was fine! If you plan on coming, be prepared for a long wait. Think it took us around 45 minutes to an hour to get a table on a busy Saturday night. There's a decent amount of seating inside, but there's also some outside. Parking is easy too. read more

I love love love hanuman thai eatery! Long overdue review for this spot and it's well deserved. Honestly i've been to this thai cuisine restaurant so many times an it does not disappoint every visit. This restaurant is perfect for any occasion, whether it be a date night, friends outing or any celebration! They offer outdoor (with heated lamps) and indoor seating, which is nice if you have a preference; parking lot can get kind of busy on weekends but I do suggest getting on their waitlist early if you plan for a dinner visit. Highly recommend their fried wings, pad see ew dish, and khao soi noodle! I also enjoyed their classic thai tea, which was so good in flavor and its a must every visit. Honestly I've tried so many different items on their menu and I keep wanting to come back for more. Staff is so kind and attentive, I love how welcoming they are and so accommodating. They always make sure your experience is perfect and make sure you have everything you need. If you're in OC or plan to visit, add this spot to your list! read more
