I spend so much time alone on the road yet weekends away from home are tough for a personable guy like me. That is until I met Mike and the gang at Wadell's Neighborhood Pub. I showed up today hoping to watch the Daytona 500 that started 10am local time but they don't open till 11 yet they not only invited me in they all spent time chatting with me while getting their work done. Mike the owner, Kelly (who I think was the head waitress), Joe the chef and the rest of the staff made this Diners Drive ins and Dives food find the best visit I have ever had. The place is great inside neat clean and comfortable. It's a sports bar restaurant with lots of big screens (and small ones) everywhere. They even have TVs in the rest rooms, a nice touch. This would be my daily hangout of I lived in Spokane! Mike is a foodie and lifetime restauranteur. This is reflected in the clever and tempting menu. He is also a brewmiester and I sampled a few of his really delicious beers. I had a few of the Pilsners that are far superior to anything that comes from a can. I decided on the pasta salad as an appetizer and it was great, Pene Ricotta is an excellent choice and it was cooked to the perfect just past al'dente texture. Next I had the LambStrosity, cheese steak served with lamb au jus. This was really great! Fabulous flavor excellent cheese and the bread holds up to a full submersion in the broth. The sweet potato fries were crispy and delicious and came with the Zag sauce. I put some on the Lamb sandwich which brought it up to superstar level! I renamed it "LAMBTASTIC" let's see if that one sticks. This place is an overall home run and should be on everybody's radar. Great for an excellent bite and some excellent brews. We ordered the Brisket dip and the Ruben burger. Lets start with the burger. My husband ask for the burger to be medium and it came out well done. The brisket dip on the other hand was flavorless and lacked seasoning. The dip was also bland. The fries were good and we really liked the fry sauce. To end, the service was slow and unatentive. Our waitress was too busy conversing with the people she new instead of filling our water and seeing if we needed anything. It took 15 minuted just to get the check to leave because she was busy socializing. Will not be back. read more

These guys have the nerve to put a minimum wage service charge on their receipt, so everyone knows how pissed this business owner is to pay a minimum. I know each state is different, but that is how it is in Washington, and this business owner's political stunt only hurts his employees. Forget the food. Word on the street is, this is retribution for waiters not volunteering their tips to a tip pool, to pay other employees which is not a thing you can demand in Washington. If you work for wages, your incentive should be increased by raises, not other peoples wages. Maybe they will have success as an establishment that caters to people who reject workers rights. Waddell's reached it's peak after it was mentioned on the Food Network some years ago. Great place for food and drink back then. First sign of the downward spiral was staff attitude. To put it bluntly it was like once the server arrived you were greeted with 'Welcome to Waddells, we're famous, you're lucky you got seated so don't bother me very much.' The attitude continued for some time, along with the slow service. We got tired of it and quit going and referring Waddell's. Covid or no Covid, the wait staff with indifferent attitudes apparently still lingers as of our visit last week. In contrast with another one of our favorite spots on the hill, although short handed and brisk, the attitude has always been welcoming and cheery, even today. read more

I've been to Waddell's multiple times. The first few times were great! The service was good and I had always enjoyed my food, but our experience tonight as well as something that happened last time, about a month ago, drove us away and we probably won't be returning. About a month ago, we came in an hour before closing and were told they weren't serving food, only drinks. So we left. No big deal I guess? Idk. but tonight, our service was extremely poor. We waited at the front for quite awhile before being seated. The girl who seated us was very friendly! but our initial waiter was not (we had two waiters?) He didn't seem happy with me because I asked for a couple lemon slices with my water. Upon receiving our food, I noticed the fries were mushy (not in a good way..) and lukewarm. My boyfriend and I both agreed the burgers were definitely not as good as we remembered. Flavorless, barely any cheese. Which was disappointing because I got the same burger last time and it was very cheesy! Just overall not a satisfying meal at all. First time in to Waddell's, I came in with a friend who has been to the north end Waddell's . . . Friday afternoon at 4pm and the place was half full; I was immediately greeted and the staff checked back frequently (although coffee was brought twice to Scott, but he drank both (shift worker)). The porter was very good, and our food came fairly quickly. Scott had a Slaughter dog and sweet potato fries and I had the Fish & Chips with a side of Onion Rings. Scott was very happy with his, and my only complaint was that one end of one piece of fish was slightly underdone (slice that fish thinner and that won't happen, guys!). Waddell's has a great beer selection. Always have had excellent choices, and many of them. It's a fun atmosphere on game days. That said, it seems like the kitchen has gone downhill in a big way. I ordered a Caesar Salad with the grilled chicken add on option for an extra five bucks - seemed like a fair price and as expected. When my order arrived I could tell it wasn't grilled. Pretty strange especially for Waddell's Bar and GRILL! I didn't snap a photo but essentially it looked like small chunks of chicken - no visible grill marks, cold as ice, bathed in creamy white Mayo. The texture of the chicken was rubbery and had no taste other than mayonnaise. I get it if you need to pre-cook chicken but this was obviously done (I mean under-done) the day before or maybe longer. With a hot grill going, you would think that the grilled chicken would actually be grilled over some heat source. It's extremely frustrating to see one of your old go to neighborhood bars do such an abysmal job. Additionally my son ordered a cheeseburger with no Mayo, and - you guessed it - it had Mayo. I noticed that the guys in the back were spending most of their time sitting at the bar too. Fine if you can actually do the job of grilling at your bar and grill but annoying to customers when you see the outcome. This is airport food at a bad airport restaurant. Anyone can pour beer, and pretty much anyone can grill chicken. I won't be going to this embarrassment of of Bar and Grill again. Our waitress did pick up the tab due to the error on the burger Mayo + the chicken of the sea canned chicken tasting / Mayo bathed salad. So the star is for her. I hope whoever just bought this place can sell it and get out of the business. I'm assuming the guy who started this place is gone now. My advice is to call the bar rescue TV show and try to get on the show. You're a long way from Guy Fieri days Waddell's! read more

It's been a few years since my last visit. Ok maybe longer because it was before Guy dropped by and put them on his TV show. So Saturday June 24 I pop in for another visit. Beautiful day so opted to sit outside. Not very busy and there seemed to be plenty of staff working. Ordered up the crispy chicken wrap with some seasoned fries. Short wait and food arrived. And a beer (more on that later). After starting on the wrap I felt like something was missing. The flavor was ok but something just seemed odd. So I finish the first half and wash it down with a little beer. About mid way thru the other half of my wrap, it dawned on me. The chicken isn't crispy and I had the impression it hadn't been crispy for some time. There was still something missing. A couple more bites and it came to me. The ingredients were dry. Suppose to be tossed in a ranch dressing. Didn't happen. Did I bring this to anyone's attention? No, I'm not the type to just about complete a meal then complain about it. My bad for not noticing early on. The fries were good but for the price of the meal I thought they were kind of stingy with them. Oh, and that beer. $7.50? Seriously? I just wanted a drink, not to buy stock in the brewery Maybe it was an off day for them or just my bad luck. The problem with the food alone wouldn't stop me from a future visit, but I like beer with my food but that price gives me second thoughts about a return. Come on people, it's beer. Another delectable experience at Waddell! I never leave dissatisfied - or hungry! This was the single burger version of The Smokejumper - The Backdraft. Sheer yumminess! I requested lettuce wrapped, no bun, and they gave me PLENTY so it was easy to pick up and eat (not usually my experience at other places). My side choice was sweet potato fries and they were literally the BEST I've ever had. I could only eat half of everything, so boxed up the remainder, 2 meals for the price of one. Tonight I had the lambstrosity sandwich and was delighted with the melted cougar gold cheese and au jus. The lamb was a little tough and chewy in my opinion but overall a good sandwich. Took some friends there on a very windy day. When we walked in the door they gave us a heads up their machine was down, so cash only...no problem we had the cash. We sat outside and looked over the menu, the menu was pretty extensive and had what we were looking for. Burgers were great, very very big but pretty tasty. This is the sixth DDD place I've been to and been let down. Fieri is a fraudster, the lamb-strosity being served isn't what he ate on DDD. We havent eaten at Waddells in a couple years so we decided to to stop by for dinner and a drink. Went in and seemed to be an annoyance to the hostess. We asked for patio seating, hostess said all the tables were reserved (there were many open, but possible) so she sat us at a booth. We Waited 10 minutes and no one even acknowledged us. They didnt seem that busy, but maybe just short staffed?? We left. Lots of restaurants on the south hill, they need to step up their game since there are better options with more friendly service and great food. read more

Did we pick a bad time to stop by?? The good- the sweet girl that greeted us and helped to try and find seating, we ended up at the bar though because no tables available. Which was fine. Everything else was terrible. This is my first one star rating. We had just waters with our dinner orders and they sat empty numerous times. Our rule is empty drinks tip goes down. Took almost 15 minutes for the 1st refill and after that we just gave up. When our food order finally came it was incorrect and we decided not to send them back because it had already taken so long. Burger tasted like propane, had barely any cheese, and was not cooked to the pinkness requested. Fries were cold. Smokehouse brisket dip sandwich was a greasy bbq sauce soaked disaster served with the saltiest au jus that was just unbearable to use. The only edible thing we finished was our salads and the dressings on them seemed a little off. This was unfortunately a waste of time and money. We will not return. read more

Went to Waddell's for lunch yesterday with a business colleague. We were not greeted as we walked in so just sat where we wanted. Our server came by a few minutes later with menus and took our drink order. She must either hate her job more than life itself or just found out her dog died. Very short (not her height either) and unfriendly. We both decided on a burger and fries. The food came out fairly quickly and I was a little surprised to see the food served in plastic baskets and the burgers were wrapped in paper ala Red Robin. The menu was ample and prices were slightly above cheap. Plates would have seems more appropriate. My cheese burger was pretty good. Very greasy, which for me makes a good burger. The fries were well seasoned. I liked the woodwork and look of Waddell's, the service was below average, and the food decent. Lack of service ruins a dining experience for me though, so for that I give Waddell's 2 stars. read more

After we heard it was one of the stops being featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives we were anxious to try it. Our server was unpleasant and almost seemed annoyed to serve us. The view of her butt crack because of her low cut pants was just not appetizing for any of us. There was some drama with another waitress on her cell phone and she made an exit out through the patio door crying. Our impression was that the service was very unprofessional. The food was extremely greasy and heavy - gut bomb. My nine year old daughter pushed her plate away and said "enough grease!". If this were a review for beer choices alone I would say 5 stars. So where do we lose points? The service has ~always~ been snotty here. Considering it has been over a year since I have last been here you would think that would have improved. Not so much. The Guy Fieri paraphernalia all over the joint is semi obnoxious as well. Wadell's is hardly a diner, drive-in, or dive. The food is ok. It isn't amazing and it isn't horrible. You can put it in your mouth and chew and get full without being sad about your meal. Portions are also insanely huge, my friend and I couldn't even come close to finishing a half-order of nachos. The hot dog choices look interesting, but I wasn't in the mood for a $9 wiener. First time here on the recommendation of someone who frequently stops by for a burger when she's in town. I step through the door a little after six, they're about 60% capacity. Hostess asks the couple in front of me "how many?" And seats them. Comes back and asks me in an accusatory tone "may I help you...?" I replied that I was here to eat. She then asks (again, in that tone) "JUST one?" Yes, honey, just one. Tone for meal is now set. Server was nice - I like hard ciders and had never tried the cherry one, so he surprised me with a sample. It was too sweet so he brought me my second choice but walked off before asking if I was ready to order, which I was. I ended up ordering the Meow Meow burger and it was good, cooked medium-rare just like I ordered. However, server walked off after taking my order and left the menus on the table until he had placed my food down and started walking off again until caught him and said "you can take these now". Overall, the food was good, service was ok. He never offered me another cider and it was empty for quite a while before he came by again. I'll come back again, and as a single diner most likely because I'm a younger widow. If the hostess treats me the same as she did today, the manager will gets piece of my mind. Single diners should not be snubbed and I run into this kind of treatment more often than not, and I always make sure I am presenting a friendly face when I walk through the doors. read more
