I am a huge fan of WH, but this location is a total disaster. We must have walked in, during a shift change, as while there were plenty of people behind the counter: nothing was getting done. Our waitress at one point put on gloves and starting cooking? We ordered 3 All-stars, that typically get knocked out within 10 min. Well, it wasn't even close. Food was ok, but two of us got waffles before rest of order; which came 10 min later. One gal, started washing dishes and sprayed my coffee and tabletop with water off a pan. I miss having these back home in the South. This was the only location located within an hour of the St Louis - Bellveille area. The staff was funny and friendly...even at 2am. To openly complaint I could mention was the gritts were not that good but then the area isn't really known for grits in this region, sadly. Came to have brunch at 1:40pm. The place was kinda dirty but I understand that places get busy so no judgement. Our waitress Suzie was who made our meal great! She came to our table and immediately cleaned it just to make sure it wasn't dirty and was very efficient in her job. Had our order taken and coffee sitting in front of us in 5mins of sitting down. The food was good. Just about the same as every other Waffle House. We love breakfast at any time of day so we're always happy to see places that offer it 24/7. If I could give them 0 stars I would. I came here with some of my friends and instantly I was met with hostility! The kitchen looked disgusting and it was empty but for some reason there was a 30 minute wait ?????? Bathrooms were closed and as soon as I came in the lady in the front told me I couldn't bring cups in so I would have to leave them outside and I told her they were empty and I just needed to throw them away to which she refused and told me she couldn't take trash and when I asked why she said because she couldn't with such an attitude! So surprised by how good this was! I've honestly never been to a Waffle House before. My family and I were heading out of town and wanted to stop by for a quick breakfast before hitting the road. From the outside, this place looked dingy and dirty. They really need to power wash their parking lot (only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5). I wasn't expecting much judging by the outside of the restaurant. But we sat right down at the counter and were helped right away. The service was great and they were very friendly. They even overheard my mom asking me for a pen and paper and they provided that for her. The menu was a little confusing. But we settled on a breakfast bowl, some eggs hash browns, bacon and waffles. All of it was awesome! I'm not a huge waffle fan, I prefer pancakes. But because the columns were smaller, the waffles were softer than any of the waffles I had before. They were probably the best waffles I've ever had! I'll definitely be stopping by another Waffle House when I'm traveling. read more

Oh my goodness, how I wish there was a Waffle House anywhere on the West Coast! But nooooo, the owners don't want to pay CA minimum wage. I swear to you, they'd make mad bank if they opened one here. In late August 2009, my dad took me and my sister on a cross country road trip. This was the first Waffle House any of us had ever set foot in. We hadn't a clue as to what to expect. The waitress was super friendly and very patient with these weird So Cal creatures. When we were there, they had a breakfast special: a waffle or biscuit and gravy, bacon or sausage patty, grits or hash browns, toast, eggs.. Um I think that was it. Anyway, two of those orders, (we tried one of everything), fed the three of us. AND there was leftover food. All for around $14!?!? No way! That can't happen in CA! Since grits aren't really a CA thing, our kind waitress prepared ours how she likes them; with salt, pepper, and sugar. I'm not a fan.. But everything else was the best. What tripped us out the most was that *everything* was made right then and there. I'm surprised the rating on this isn't higher. This is our "go to" breakfast stop when going to St Louis. We've never had a bad experience here in our food or customer service even when we had 4 adults and 2 hangry toddler, they took care of us well. It gets a 4 for the food but the place is loud! Loud music playing for breakfast. There's a staff person who just yells out orders to the cooks. She is so loud and doesn't stop you can't even relax and enjoy the very good food. I've been to waffle houses all over, this one had a staff of 11 which is much more than usual. It's usually 2-3 cooks and 2-3 wait staff. The increased number of workers did not add up to a shorter wait time. I have been obsessed with Waffle House and their hashbrowns since college road trips down south. I'll take mine smothered, occasionally smothered and covered, please! Mmmmm, this time I enjoyed a waffle and sausage as well. I must say, either it was all in my head or the waffle houses in "the south" are much tastier. I grew up not far from Collinsville so I knew (again, in my head) that I wasn't getting a true southern experience, haha. I'll take it though. Living in Chicago now this is the closest Waffle House to me and perhaps I'll be making more trips to Collinsville when I return to my hometown. The Waffle House is a great place to enjoy the food that is not good for you but tastes so awesome! Even though I think the best time to grab a bite to eat here is after 1am on the weekend its great for normal times too. The hash browns that are loaded to the max are awesome and the service is always pretty good and your order is always served to you fast and hot. If your a people watcher it doesn't get any better than this early in the morning on the weekends. The cook there on the weekends on the night shift has been there forever and does a great job. I have eaten there other times and the food was still good but not like it is when he is on the grill. I don't know his name but hes the man that you want to cook your order.
