So my wife finally said she would be ok going to Wahlburgers for lunch today. SHOCK!! I've been wanting to try them out since they opened It's really weird that you have to go into the grocery store to order. And mostly the atmosphere is just the same as it was when this was a grocery store cafe. I do like looking at the pond outside the window. The fries are old fashioned and I loved them but not crispy enough for my wife. The sweet potato tater tots were really good - soft and hot. We tried the jalapeno bacon won tons... They were good but my wife doesn't like the sugar syrup on the bacon. The shake was outrageous!! I got a Black and White. It was like the ones we used to get at a place my folks took us to when I was a kid. If you like the style where the milk separates from the ice cream as you drink it ..and I do...wow!! I'll come back just for those. I got the signature burger with bacon and mushrooms and swiss cheese and tomato jam. Hey I love tomato jam, but I've never had it on a burger. It was heaven. The special sauces are good too. The prices seem high for the atmosphere, but the quality of food and speed of service are excellent. Two burgers and sides with tip was $50. Slightly higher than the other high end burger places are charging. The difference is these burgers are actually much much better. read more

Disappointed Again My first disappointment was when I watched the Hy-Vee Market Grille go from a very enjoyable to a good place to avoid, my guess it was because of poor management, staffing and training. The final disappointment came the other night when we finally decided to try their current offering for prepared food inside their store. We should have been warned when at 7:00 pm on a Friday the bar area (complete with flat screen tv's in abundance) was empty. At first glance it appears to be pretty much the same Market Grill until you actually get inside and try to order. After much looking around we asked someone if there was a hostess or if we should just sit down and wait for a server. That's when we found that you have to go out to the food court and order. Out there we finally got the attention of the young man at the register, when he finished what he was doing on his phone, and asked if we should order here. With a great lack of enthusiasm he said, yeah. Looking at the menu we wondered if we had actually entered the McDonald's in the parking lot rather than the Hy-Vee. But checking the prices we realized it definitely was not! We were also told it would be 15 or 20 minutes before we would be served! Taking a chance on a $12+ bacon cheese burgers with a single side and a soft drink. we paid and carried our number plaque to the booth closest to the soft drink dispenser (just like McDonald's). That is when I noticed the "Sanitized for you safety" sign on the table, right next to a blob of ketchup and an assortment of crumbs. Hmmm. At their worst, I never saw anything like this in the Market Grille, even when they had gone completely in the tank as they folded. Our meals were delivered and looked pretty good until they fell under closer examination. My BBQ burger with cheese and bacon crumbles really did not look to be a 1/4 pound, and Paula's Onion Rings were definitely cold (like from sitting under a heat lamp too long in back). A manager (guessed) came by and asked if everything was OK, and I pointed out the onion rings. She grabbed them and returned with fresh and warm replacements in a few minutes. The Burgers we pretty much OK by fast food standard, but nowhere worth $12+ out of my pocket. To add insult to injury we noticed that one of the widescreen TV's on the wall was a monitor for the kitchen. Once we did see someone wandering around back there, but for the rest of our stay we only noticed the trash and food laying on the floor! More "sanitized for you safety" stuff I guess. Again in my guess it was likely a good idea, but Wahlburgers was destroyed from beginning to end from deficiencies in marketing, work processes, management, and staff training. My recommendation is that if you want value and enjoyment from your burger in Lee's Summit, try 5 Guys across Mo 291, Unk's Burgers off US 50, or and of the corporate chain fast food places in town - at least there will be fewer surprises and a meal at market value. read more

What a disappointment. I've been looking forward to trying one of their restaurants for so long now. Calling this one a restaurant is like calling a Kardashian a real person. Where to start...I'm assuming this was once a Hy-Vee Marketplace grill since it actually sits inside the store. Hy-Vee boss man, if you're listening, don't ruin any more of your stores with this abomination. The service was non existent. Even sitting in the bar where you would think it would be more attentive. Nope. The bar tender was too busy entertaining her boyfriend and a couple of local regulars that must not realize there are better options down the street. The food....I got the standard burger and tater tots. I'm assuming the cook just walked in the the frozen food aisle in the store, grabbed a bag and threw them in the oven. Gee, why didn't I think of that? What a genius concept! Just walk in the store, grab a microwavable and the cook will heat it up for you for triple the price. The burger....do I have to call it that? 5 Guys makes burgers. Shake Shack makes burgers. Even McDonald's makes burgers. This was a patty from a bag 1 aisle over from the tots. Like the generic bag, not even the good kind. My date who has probably left the country and changed her number by now....although this was her idea....had a bun-less chicken sandwich. Well, at one time it might've been chicken. This was more like a piece of leather. Wait, that's giving leather a bad rap. It has its uses at least. The chicken like substance would have made a great doorstop I guess. Maybe my expectations were too high after hearing of the magical Wahlburgers for the last couple of years. What a disappointment. I guess I could lower my burger and tater tot standards, but then I could also just go get a Bic Mac and fries for a lot less. Did I already say what a disappointment already? They have done a great job in providing an experience that makes you feel comfortable during covid. Burgers were fresh, not super greasy, tomatoes, pickles, onions etc. very fresh and the sweet potato tots were amazing. Prices are a bit high for burgers. read more

Ok, so I've eaten the burger here before and it was nothing to write home about. Somewhat overpriced, but a decent, not great burger that didn't differentiate itself in any way. And now... Visited for happy hour. Now the old Hyvee happy hour was a thing to marvel at. Parameters were the same, but wow has it changed. 3$ pints and 5$ apps, let's give it a try. Here's what I found... 3$ pints. There are 19 beers to chose from, and that's good. Not as good as the 32 you used to be able to chose, but still good. But the choices were weak. Still, I found one and it was good. So they were good on beer. The food. This is where the wheels came off. Wings (both bone in and boneless) and the pretzel bites. The bone in wings were weird. It was like processed meat on a bone. How do they do that? They are prebreaded and nasty. The sauce was tasty, but you can't cover up that horrible flavor of the wings. Same with the boneless. Overcooked processed meat filled with some white substance and air pockets. This was not chicken. The pretzel bites used to be flavorful little nuggets with a coating of Parmesan cheese. Now they are chewy, pretzel-like things that we didn't finish. The food easily made us question whether we will ever go back. The staff is great. Friendly and nice, but they can't overcome this awful food. Even at happy hour prices this place should be shut down. read more

I've eaten at Wahlburgers restaurants, the full restaurants. This is a minimal version with just a few options. A few burgers, couple of salads and sides. We ordered a salad, and a burger meal, plus pickle fries and 2 drinks. Bill was $33. The wait in an empty restaurant was over 40 min. We had to get our food to go. The manager felt so horrible she comped our meal. Food was just ok, not great, not Wahlburgers quality. Wouldn't recommend. Would not return. 2 stars bc our food was comped for the extremely long wait. read more

If you never came when this place was the Market Grille, then you may believe this restaurant is good, or maybe nice. The seating, yadda, yadda, yadda and all that jazz is like any contemporary restaurant with the slick lightening, funky decor and edible food. Edible is the extent that I can say about these Wahlburgers. Even when this place was Market Grille the burger--particularly the California one was pretty good. The basic, one patty, Wahlburger that I ordered was "meh". My husband and I have purchased the Wahlburger patties for my husband to grille at home, which was far superior in taste. In fact, if you are smart you'd get yourself a grille, purchase Wahlburger patties at Hy-Vee and grille them at home yourself, and save about $10. read more

Wahlburgers was a super fail on wings. $12 for 5 wings and one order only had 4 and a broken stub, the other order some pieces still had the feathers on. I could 10 for the same price at Wingstop but I was already in Hy-Vee and didn't have time to run up to Wingstop. Lesson learned. read more

I have ordered carryout 3 times from Wahlburgers. Today I ordered due to their 50% off any hamburger for National cheeseburger day. So far the burgers and tots have been good. I would not say that any of their burgers are worth the $12 or $13 they charge per burger. With the 50% off deal I made a repeat visit. Ordering over the phone has been problematic every single time I have been disconnected. Ok burger, too expensive especially for the grocery store experience. read more

Having been a customer of the old Hyvee Market Grill, and enjoyed their burgers, I have a good comparison. First, let me saw this burger was good. Not sure it was as good as the old Hyvee Burger, but I suspect they are virtually the same. But here's the deal....This burger is smaller. This burger costs 40%+ or more. There are many good burgers around that don't impact your wallet like this. Take a pass. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the restaurant itself. Hyvee does a great job with staffing, and we love the bar area of the old Market Grill. It's the relatively the same. So the environment is great, but the burger experience is just OK. read more

I was really looking forward to trying a Wallburgers. I've heard great things. This place isn't that. My girlfriend ordered a single, and I ordered a double. My double was two thin patties, with less meat than the single. Worse, the two patties were in crumbled pieces. When I asked if that is the way it was supposed to be, I was told "I don't know". Much later I was asked "Do you want the manager to do something about it?". Yea, I would've liked the manager to come talk to me since there is no one here! Maybe they get it together but not yet! I liked this place better when it was the Hy-Vee Market Grille. It used to be a sit-down restaurant where they seated customers and took their order. Now there's a cash register inside of the grocery store close by the restaurant where we order and pre-pay. The cashier who took our order was also the cook and the server. She was really nice. I think her name was Katelyn if I remember correctly. There was also a TV in the restaurant where we were seated that broadcasted in real time what was happening in the kitchen. I jokingly told my husband that with automation, not only are the customers now checking themselves out at stores, but that we were also managers too, supervising the kitchen staff. The bar was completely empty, and the stools were all placed on the bar counter upside down, so for those looking to grab drinks it might be better to visit another place. Overall, the food was decent and the noise level was low, but I'm not sure if we'd return. read more

What a disappointment! My meal did not look anything like the posted photos. $11 for a meal that was not even Dollar Menu quality. No drink included. The way Wahlburg's is hyped, I was expecting something like 5 Guys or Applebee's quality and portions. The patty was about the size of a regular Burger King burger, but not as good. With government cheese being used as the main cheese, you would think they'd be able to cut the price a bit. I understand why they use government cheese, because that's what they grew up on. I ordered 3 Wahlburgers, two with fries and 1 with onion rings. Plus we ordered 2 strawberry shakes. The burgers were very good. They had great flavor, thanks to the 3 meat combo of the patty. I loved the rings. They are the skinny version and the shakes were great too. I had the order to go so by the time I got home the food wasn't hot but warm. Had to go into Hy-Vee to actually order, and had to wait over 5 minutes for someone to come take our orders. There were five of us. Two different orders. The second group got their food first after 30 minutes. Our first group got their food after another 20 minutes of waiting. Asked for sauce. They never came back. The fries were cold and no seasoning. The burgers were luke warm. For being a restaurant they were not prepared for floor spills or a puking baby with a mop and bucket. We had to ask multiple people for supplies to clean up the mess on the floor. The manager had to go to the meat department of the grocery store it's attached to and get clean up supplies. read more

Only reason I'm giving 2 stars is for the friendly, wonderful bartender! The food was absolutely some of the worst I've ever eaten. No seasoning whatsoever on the burgers, thin, prefab patties. My burger salad was nothing short of disgusting. Soaked in the dressing, cold burger, We drove 15 miles to go to try WALBURGERS, and would have been happier driving only a block for a quarter pounder. And the onion ? rings? Strings?? The hamburger I ordered wasn't even warm also the signature Mac & cheese lacked cheese was very dry. My wife's chicken sandwich according to her was good and said the onion rings were good. First time at this, looking forward to amazing burger but a bit disappointed. My burger was missing half the bun, no top! Had to use a bun we had in pantry in order to eat it as a sandwich. Husband's melt was long on bread but meat didn't come close to matching in size. Onion "rings" had a good flavor but were batter dipped, fried, and stringy -- not what was expected, shouldn't be advertised as onion rings but rather onion strings. Chicken egg rolls had really good flavor, especially with the dipping sauce albeit felt/tasted a bit greasy. Not sure if we will try the HyVee option again, hopefully the actual restaurants are better. read more

I waited in line to order for at least 10 minutes behind another customer in the hyvee line. . 2 wahlburgers employees stood there gossiping and even looked at me several times and not once did they offer to take my order.this was my first time so I didnt know where to order from and nobody offered help. I got up to the hyvee cashier, and she says I have to order on the right side from the rude teenagers. Ok, so they ignored me this whole time. Rude. I ordered one strawberry shake.... she took my money and says go wait inside at the bar for it. No customer service skills at all.I go up to the bar and again am never greeted by the girl behind the bar. another 10 min goes by, she starts making my shake. Hands me a small to go cup with what looked like strawberry milk. I was so angry I just took it and left. As I am walking out the smartass at the register from before smirks at me and says "have a nice day". That pos SIX DOLLAR shake wannabe went straight in the trash. Never again, wahlburgers at Hyvee. NEVER AGAIN. I know it seems like 20 min isnt a long time..but had they had ANY other customers I would have understood that. I was the only one. Now I know why. read more
