I'm not a shave ice person and even the places that people rave about are not my thing. We happened to be at this plaza and my son and I got ice cream a few doors down but my husband wanted to get shave ice. I tried some of what he got and I was surprised how much I liked it. My husband got the strawberry mango and added some mochi. The syrup wasn't too sweet but was flavorful. The ice was fine and light and the flavoring was spot on. The toppings made a difference for me and I ended up liking it a lot. Most of the shave ice places I've tried only had the syrup. We've been trying a couple of shave ice places and this one has been my favorite so far. I'll probably be back to try their other flavors before we leave this area.
This shaved ice definitely exceeded my expectations. This location was recommended to me by a friend as a must try, and I'm so glad I did. The flavors are both very refreshing and not overly the top sweet. The shaved ice itself is fluffy and melts in your mouth. I was a bit overwhelmed on which option to chose as there's quite a few combo mixes to chose from. There was quite a bit of a line when we arrived, but it seemed to move quick, and our orders also came out pretty quick. Definitely a must try if you're in the area.
Arrived 5:30pm after a day on the north side of the island. Plenty of parking. The place has a welcoming atmosphere and an open feeling. It was fairly busy with a steady flow of customers. We ordered the Triple Coconut and the Strawberry Mango. We paid at the counter and shortly thereafter my name was called. The shave ice had a wonderful texture. The natural ingredients deliver a healthy and satisfying treat. The Strawberry Mango was fantastic with mango juice, strawberry purée and mango chunks. The Triple Coconut was flavor and texture delight with coconut milk and flakes. We look forward to returning! Highly recommended!
First of all, the staff here are so friendly and willing to help with recommendations for flavors. The shave ice itself is delicious and the flavors are so fresh. I appreciate how they're honest about how there are artificial flavors in the rainbow shave ice, but trust me I'm not eating shave ice for health benefits LOL. Mochi comes with the rainbow shave ice and was the perfect addition. Not all of the flavors come with mochi, but it's definitely worth paying extra for it. I think it's only a few dollars. Lava flow comes with haupia (coconut) foam. Light and airy. I wish we came more than once so I could've tried more flavors. There's also indoor seating and air conditioning!
Hands down best shave we have ever had!!!! Planning to go back again. We are staying 30 minutes away but it's worth the drive. Nothing artificial tasting and huge portions. It is literally one of the best things we have ever had! We got the Ube, root beer float, and the Lava flow. All of them were insanely delicious. If you want authentic shave ice with amazing quality ingredients and fresh fruit, it's worth the drive!!!!!
If I could eat shaved ice every day this is where I would do it. We ordered the Ube, Cookies and Cream and Love Potion#9 and they were ALLL so delicious. If you love ube anything ... you'll love this! It wasn't too sweet and the foam was yummy--I'll definitely be craving it. Light, fluffy, and full of flavor! My daughter loved the fresh strawberries on the Love Potion #9; perfectly blend. My husband who never eats dessert loved the Cookies and Cream. Highly recommend this place!! Super cute spot with very few seats though...would expect more places to sit especially since it's so crowded! Service was great...staff was super helpful. Self-serve kiosks for ordering made for fast ordering as well.
Good shave ice, but Wailua's menu boxes you in to their predefined offerings. I'll start with a confession that we are already a huge fans of Ulalani's (Maui) so that's our guidepost for shave ice. I would have preferred the option to customize my order and get the flavors, add ons I really wanted.
It was a very hot and humid day and there was a very popular shave ice place close to our hotel so decided to check it out. It is a popular place so the line was pretty long. There were several tables outside and a few more inside. You order at the kiosk or at the register if paying in cash. Staff were very friendly and very busy making the orders. They have a good selection with many different flavors. We ordered the Strawberry Coconut. The wait was not long considering how many people were there. We were surprised how much was included no each order. We were glad we ordered one to split since there was so much. It was very tasty and nice and cold for a hot day. We will try a different flavor next time.
Came around 3 p.m. on a Sunday, and it was pretty empty -- most people were hanging out on the benches outside. Inside is super spacious with chill, surfy decor. Ordering is mostly through a digital kiosk (credit card only), but you can pay cash with the staff. Got the ube shaved ice and a deluxe acai bowl. Both came out fast and were huge. The ube shaved ice was super creamy -- if I didn't know better, I wouldn't even guess it was shaved ice. Totally lives up to the hype. The acai bowl was loaded with toppings, a little sweet from the honey but still really good. Definitely worth a stop. We've been to all the islands for foodie adventures and felt that the acai bowl from here was the best we've ever had.
Came here while staying at the Sheraton down the street. Previous nights we got shave ice at the Coconut Marketplace. I thoroughly regret that decision. I will dream of this ube shave ice for the rest of my days. Had I known how amazingly fluffy and delicious the shave ice is here I would have come everyday of our vacation. Nothing I've had compares, and I wonder, sadly, if anything in the future ever will
I came in with high expectations based on the yelp rating. I ordered the pina colorada. At best, it was OK. Almost no flavor. Not that I want things super sweet. But yikes. It's possible other drinks are much better, and I somehow selected the less desirable option. Since I'm staying very close, I might come back and try the mango thing. But 4.7 rating means everything on the menu should be very good. read more

This shave ice was calling out to us after we arrived on the island and got some other shopping finished. It's conveniently located right next to the ABC Store. We were greeted upon entering and helped promptly. They were more than happy to explain their menu to us and answer our questions. My kids both got the strawberry mango. I couldn't decide between the lava flow and da ube one, but they told me to go for da ube one if I love ube (and I do)! Naturally flavored, no need to worry about stained teeth here. The shave ice was perfect and hit the spot. They were also really beautiful--works of art! Good amount of seating available inside, but we got cold and it got really crowded shortly after we arrived, so we moved to a bench outside. Merchandise is also available for purchase and a clean restroom is available for customers only. We really enjoyed our visit here! read more
Stopped here for a shave ice after our hike. The wait wasn't too long. They already have preset menus so no custom flavors/combos. Lilikoi cream was so good. It's not on the tablet menu so you have to order with a person since they only sell a limited amount. The size is pretty big for one person. My husband liked the ube one it came with ube coconut foam on top. Would definitely come back if I'm ever in the neighborhood! read more

Soooo good! This was by far the best shave ice we had during our week in Kauai. Ice was soft, flavor combos were on point, and the foam tops were soo fluffy and delicious. We came twice because it was so good and I wish we had the time and stomach to come back a third time! If you're an ube fan, definitely come and get Da Ube One. There was so much ube and coconut flavor. The ube foam was so creamy and the roasted coconut flakes gave a nice crunch. The store itself has some seating inside and there's also outdoor seating. Absolutely delicious! Wailua Shave Ice is next-level good -- light, refreshing, and packed with flavor. The house-made milks are creamy perfection, and the fresh fruits taste like they were picked that morning. You can taste the quality and care in every bite. A must-stop treat spot in Kaua'i! This place is stupid good. We liked everything, but the real passion fruit and the ube option were stellar, among the best frozen treats I've ever had in my life. Don't miss it! I wish I'd skipped lunch so I had room to finish the masterpiece. The pina colada was a little on the tart side for me; the others are more balanced, so just go with your preference. Let me tell you this is the best shaved ice in Kauai! Every ingredient is natural, friendly and price is pretty good compared to how much you get! We had to stop by one last time before heading back home. Everyone there is so friendly and space is good for big family also. Sitting on the outside also. Spontaneous visit to Wailua Shave Ice after a hot afternoon at the beach. This spot is spacious, with a good amount of seating. Apparently, it's been voted as one of the top shave ice spots in all of Kauai for several years! I got their strawberry guava shave ice, which was topped with some diced strawberries and honey drizzle. Price wise, it seems comparable to other shave ice spots I've seen around Hawaii. The shave ice was delicious, but a bit on the sweeter side. They also have some unique flavours such as cookies & cream and ube, which seemed to be popular. I did find that the syrup didn't penetrate the ice as deeply (maybe they didn't poke deep enough holes in the ice), but they offer free syrup refills. I wish there was an option for customizing flavours and changing sizes of the shave ice though, because the majority of the flavours weren't ones I'd go for. read more
9/10 - da ube one 9.5/10: so fire. the cream on top was wonderful, with surprises of crunchy coconut flakes. every bite had just as much flavor, the ice was infused!!!! - lava flow 3/10: so bad. don't get this one. it tasted like artificial pineapple, with some sad canned pineapple and frozen strawberries on top. the haupia cream was good but didn't make up for the rest of it being so bad. we ended up tossing half of it :( read more

Had 2 shave ice placed marked to check out on Kauai and this was the first one tried. Unfortunately, this was not good at all... Got the lava flow and everything just tasted generic, not worth it in my book. Clean shop and convenient for the east side near hotel we stayed at, but... Ended up discovering the fantastic shave ice down in Koloa after being disappointed here. That one was worth the drive down to get. Was so sad we only got to get that one twice before end of trip. Come here if want convenience, make the drive down to Koloa for the memorable and best. read more
Everyone told us that Wailua Shave Ice was the best on the island so of course we had to see for ourselves! You can order at the kiosk or wait in line to order with someone at the counter. We opted to wait in line so we can get recommendations. We ordered the Lava Flow, Love Potion #9 and Da Ube One. They have cute merch for sale too. Our orders were up and the girl told me that the Ube syrup is not as thick and that if I wanted more to just ask. It was perfect for me. My favorite part was the toasted coconut topping. Yum! The shave ice is so soft and creamy. We all enjoyed ours. This for sure was our favorite out of all the shave ice spots we tried during our trip! Wailua is a must! read more

Good shaved ice. Wasn't as good as some others id tried. Texture of the ice was my fave part. They use soft serve for their ice cream center and it doesn't hit the way traditional macadamia nut does imo. Flavors were good but not popping. Maybe i got the wrong pick. Staff were nice, ambiance basic. Great a/c lol was blasting Strawberry coconut shaved ice: 6/10 Good but not great Root beer float ice: 6/10 Disclaimer: and the reason for 3 stars vs 4: their customer bathroom was abhorrent. Like it is a straight up health safety hazard. Worse than truck stop, i was shocked. Im only assuming employees must use another one bc this was like wrong lol. No TP, no PT. Dust and stickiness everywhere. Like have yall ever cleaned that bathroom? Fr makes me worry about all the food sanitation that isn't sanitizing lol Please management, clean that bathroom DAILY. read more

This rating is for Love Potion No. 9, as it's the only flavor I chose. DO NOT GET THIS! It has zero flavor for the ice, the strawberries are so frozen you can't even taste them and the syrup was so minimal, it couldn't fix it. The first one I got had spoiled condensed milk so they replaced it for me, but the replacement still was bland and blah. I tried several shaved ice spots in Kaua'i and this was the worst one. I would also say service is pretty brusque and rude so that is another point against this, and the line was long and slow and they make you order by machine if they get too busy to take your order so just use the machine instead of waiting in line. Try Hee Fat's General Store down the street or really any other spot instead. read more

Wailua Shaved Ice is hands down the best shaved ice I've ever had--anywhere. If any other shaved ice shop tried Wailua here in Kauai, they'd have to completely rethink what they're doing. Whatever you order, get it with a foam top and a snow cap. Thank me later. read more

Shaved ice was a must on our list. My son chose the PINA COLADA: Pineapple Juice, Coconut Milk, Roasted Coconut Flakes. Mom had DA UBE ONE: Ube & Coconut MIlk, Ube Foam, Roasted Coconut Flakes, I also ordered the same but added mochi as extra topping. Sis got the OG RAINBOW $8: *made with artificial flavors Red (strawberry), Blue (Vanilla), Yellow (banana), Snowcap, mochi. Service was perfunctory. There were tables and benches to sit and enjoy your order. Restroom was gender neutral and needed lots of care. Parking was free. read more
Really good shave ice here. Came here because it was highly recommended and they use natural syrups. Had the lava flow with vanilla ice cream. The ice was not as fine as I was expecting, but it was still delicious. Some of the tables were kind of dirty and sticky, but overall, it's a very neat and welcoming environment. Staff was friendly. They sell some T-shirts with their logo if you are so inclined. With all of the very positive reviews, don't hesitate to give them a try. I would most definitely come back. read more
Hands down the BEST shave ice I have ever had! We drove past this place a few times during our trip to Kaua'i, and I regret not trying it on our first day. Every time we passed by it was crowded which should have been our hint that the shave ice here was amazing. We got the Strawberry Coconut to share amongst the 4 of us. It has strawberry puree, coconut milk, haupia foam (GAME CHANGER), roasted coconut flakes, and almonds. And of course we had to add vanilla ice cream. All of the flavors blended so well with each other. I could've probably ate the whole thing by myself. What puts Wailua Shave Ice apart from other shaved ice spots is they don't serve ice chunks drenched in syrup like most shaved ice spots do. Their ice was so thin that it melted in your mouth and tasted like creamy flavored ice. You can either order at the counter or use their contactless screens. It was crowded but we waited less than 5 mins for our bowl. The staff was friendly and gave us great recommendations. They said their other popular flavors are Da Ube One and Love Potion #9. We will definitely visit this place on our next vacation back to Kaua'i! read more

The BEST place for shave ice on Kauai. My wife and I spent a week on the island -- naturally trying every shave ice place we could find in search of THE BEST one. Wailua Shave Ice was/is THE BEST one we found one. The service was great. The staff was friendly as you would expect from any Hawaiian business. They were strong with the Aloha spirit. Plus, the location was nice because it was a sit in location unlike some other places what had outside dining only. But, let's be honest, that is never an issue when you're in Hawaii. What set Wailua apart from other places was the strong consistent flavor. The hot chocolate and rainbow were SPOT on, and the Tigers Blood flavoring was amazing. The sea foam topping -- or coconut whipped cream was **CHEF'S KISS** The only "bad" part about our experience was finding this on Day 5 of 7 on the island. We ate here twice a day to make up for our lost time. Had we found it earlier we would have gone everyday and nowhere else. read more

Absolutely loved their shave ice! The love potion was my favorite but the lava flow was also good! So happy they're open later too so we were able to grab this after we had dinner! Big parking lot so parking isn't an issue. You can dine inside too. read more

100% absolute MUST when on Kauai! How shave ice should be, shaved not snow coned. The flavors you order are the flavors you will taste as if fresh from the fruit itself and the texture is so smooth. The whipped cream on the lava flow is all coconut and the perfect topping on any flavor. Other optional toppings are mochi, ice cream, coconut shavings and more. Busy spot and opens kind of late for a high tourist location but worth the noon open wait. Pretty cool merch wall too! read more
Food: we got 2 flavors of the shave ice. The signature one with pineapple ice and coconut foam, and the other as a full ube. Personally I like the refreshing and light flavor of pineapple but not a big fan of the coconut foam. The Ube one with coconut flakes is pretty well balanced. I heard this was still the best shave ice on the island, and being back after 5 years, I have to say... it still is!! The flavors are so natural and not artificial. Even though it was raining, it was still very refreshing and much needed. When we were here 5 years ago they were located in a food truck but now they're in a shop and I'm so happy to see they're still doing amazing!! read more
