Don't walk but run to get the Ube Coconut shaved ice - not only does it have the perfect purple color, but it is also so light and airy! It was also flavored throughout so you don't feel like you are just eating ice! The big is way too big in my opinion so get the small and that way you can try multiple flavors!
Fun alternative to ice cream. Order everything online, very convenient and introvert friendly. It's light and melts super fast, so if you order on hot summer days, you might as well eat it outside the store, there are several benches there. The ice is soft and smooth. I liked my orange juice and pineapple shaved ice, very refreshing! The ube one is creamier and richer.

Just a fair warning... This place might spoil shaved ice for you forever! I've been to the original location in Kauai a few years back and I must say, this location might just be a taddddd bit better (taste wise, but there weren't as many options). I've tried many different shaved ice in Hawaii as well, and in my honest opinion Wailua is sitting atop its throne with no close second. Though there's no place to sit inside the establishment, there is a bench right outside and a few chairs. The shaved ice will be a lot bigger than you expect it, but also a lot lighter as well. If you need a light dessert this should definitely be on your list! We got Triple Coconut with Ube foam with toasted coconut and almonds which was smooth and creamy, lots of coconut flavor but not overly sweet! The next day, we got Love Potion #9 with toasted coconut and almonds as well, it's very similar to Strawberries and cream and if you want to play it safe this is the one to get. However, Triple Coconut was just better. Love this place. No hesitations, just go!

I love a good Hawaiian shaved ice and Wailua delivers! All of the options on their menu sounded amazing but when I saw they had li hing as a topping option I knew I had to get the pineapple one - so fresh and refreshing after walking around downtown Portland all day! They're tucked back into a shopping plaza with a walk up counter and no seating really, but there's picnic tables outside across from Powell's if needed. And as some have already noted, the only ordering and payment option is online through your mobile device.
Great place to stop by for a sweet refreshing treat after browsing at Powell's across the street. Order online via QR code scan or their website, some benches/chairs to sit on nearby to wait/enjoy your shaved ice (wait was approx 10min, had a little line). We saw some other people with the "regular" size which was pretty large so we opted for kid size to share to not send us into a diabetic coma. This was so refreshing and the mochi chunk addition added a nice variety of textures. Parking is a pain in the butt downtown but otherwise a great place to grab a little treat
I truly can't get over this place. I could live off wailu. Ube with condensed milk is my favorite. They haves coconut milk shaved ice with beef liver for you pooch- how cute!

They don't have a table seating area, just a few wood benches. It's actually Just a storefront with a Covid safety protocols. There is a QR code posted outside for you to order online. Once it's ready, you will get a text and call your name. When I went, there was only 1 person working. I think the owner? Service didn't take long though. I ordered ube shave ice (keiki) and wow it was pretty dang good. Love that ube flavor. Good size for me especially when it was hot outside and I didn't want it to melt so fast. What a nice treat! Yummm
This is a little shaved ice stand, where you have to order online and then pickup at the counter. I'm not the biggest fan of shaved ice but was pleasantly surprised. The ube was sweet and the ice was finely shaved (not too icey) which was nice. However it is kinda pricey in comparison to getting ice cream ($8.50 for kids and $9.50 for regular)
Omg get the ube rn u want the ube so bad My friend recommended we go and I am so glad we shared. All the flavors looked amazing but the ube made it easy to choose. Everything was ordered online and digital which can suck if u want a sweet treat and don't have a phone. Plenty of benches to sit in but not many tables. Ube ice review I loved the ube foam surrounding the ice along with the foam and toasted coconut. The milky ice and uber at the bottom was awesome as well. This is not a shaved ice place that's half syrup half iced and it's easy to enjoy every bite. Strawberry ice review The strawberry was nice. My girlfriend got it with vanilla bean ice cream. We really enjoyed the combination of the ice and the vanilla bean. I personally liked mixing this flavor with my ube bowl. The strawberry flavor wasn't as strong when adding ice cream, but the bowl was still tasty. Next time I'd get with extra purée if I were to get ice cream. This is not a good place to come if you're looking for desserts under $9. It's perfect to share and would make an awesome date. Will definitely be dealing with shitty parking just to come back and try the mango flavor. read more

Hands down the best shaved ice I've ever eaten. It is the softest shaved ice like fresh snow. However the fresh syrups make this a master class in shaved ice. I mean I have never had any shaved ice come anywhere close to being this flavorful. I'm sad that I'm only in Portland for a short time. I had the Rainbow but am looking forward to trying their other creations. read more

A premium shave - for sure all natural juices etc. and you pay for the premium. Know you must have a smart phone with the ability to pay online. I know majority do but my Mom wouldn't be able to do this. I was by myself so the keiki was perfect as the regular would be too big. Some seating inside the hallway area and some outside. Fun for something special but not something I would spend for often as it is still mostly water at a premium price. read more

I usually get the ube or love potion at Wailua but tried Spread Aloha, which is dragonfruit/Guava juice topped with a homemade chia haupia cream and fresh strawberries. It was refreshing. You have to order online or scan the QR code at the entrance. There isn't much space to eat your shave ice around the area because there are benches around the hallway, but it's a shared space. Service was quick, but usually busy on warmer days! read more

How can I explain spending $33.98 on shaved ice and being totally willing to do it again? Visiting Portland and had Wailua Shave Ice on my "To Try" list. Went twice while I was there because its that good. Atmosphere: Walk up service only. Scan the QR code in the shop window or order online. The menu shows which shaved ice flavors are Vegan, what each flavor contains and if they still have it in stock. They also sell trinkets and local made snacks. The Food: Babe I miss you already. These are the kids (Keiki) servings and they're still massive. My order took no more than 8-10 minutes even when busy. I loved all of the add ins or toppings you could add & decked both of my orders out in Mochi each time. Got the Ube one on my first visit and after seeing and tasting it my boyfriend was adamant about coming back and getting his own. Great choice for a refreshing lil sweet treat read more
It's located in a small alley with small shops. Lava Flow 5/5 Mmmmmm. The pineapple juice flavor is so strong! It's very refreshing. The fruit toppings weren't so sweet, sadly. Why go to Hawaii when one of the best shave ice spots is in the PDX! This place has been our mainstay for many years and whenever in town it is our must "go to" spots. First off the choices are great including the Love Potion No. 9, Lava Flow, Guava Flow, Strawberry Cococut, and Triple Coconut. I'm a sucker for ube and since I was riding solo on this trip getting two choices was a bit over the top so I opted for the Ube which consisted of coconut milk, ube coconut foam, toasted coconut and also had it drizzled with condensed milk. It melted my heart! The ordering system is easy go to their website place your order and they'll bring it once it's done. You can't go inside anymore to get some Instagram-able shots but my server was nice enough to take my picture out in front and thanks for her Aloha Spirit it made my day! Their PDX location is inside a small mall right across the street from Powell Books. read more

Everything is delicious. My fav is the coconut shave ice. The ube is also sweet but not overly sweet. Mango is fruity. Can't wait to try the li hing next time. read more
The service is easy to order through the website via square. Tells you the estimated time of pick up and able to look at the cute shop next door. The shave ice is delicious just wish they'd give more of the juice since the center wasn't filled so it got bland. First time trying the guava flow and it was refreshing and addicting. Will come back. read more

There's a cute shop next door to spend some time while you wait! I just got the keiki size and it was big for 1 person! Paid street parking nearby. read more
This is probably the best Hawaiian shave ice I've had in the Portland area. It tastes more natural and real compared to others I've tried from food trucks, which often taste fake and cheap due to the syrup they use--almost like drinking chemicals. I didn't get that feeling at all with Wailua Shave Ice. I ordered online to save time because I knew parking could be an issue. I'd heard a lot about this place, but the parking situation had always held me back from visiting. As expected, parking was terrible. I ended up in a "no parking" spot outside, hoping I could just get in and out quickly. Even with my online order and arriving on time, I still had to wait about five minutes past the pick-up time. Fortunately, my car was still there when I got out. I'd come here more often if the parking wasn't so difficult. I probably wouldn't drive here just for it again, but I'd definitely visit if I'm in the area or taking public transit downtown. read more
Omgggg best shaved ice ever! It literally is so fluffy and melts in your mouth. The ube was a good flavor. Not extremely sweet even with the condensed milk. I love anything ube flavored! But I'm sure any one of their shaved iced is delicious! I also got their li hing mui powdered mixed candies. They were okay. I want a fan of the redvines. They were out of the ones with chamoy which I really wanted! But if you need a quick cool down stop by Wailua to get some shaved ice. read more

A shave ice place that literally brings me back to Hawaii! And it is snow yall, not crushed ice textured! Yaaaaas for days! And the haupia foam and comdensed milk snow cap combo, CHEEEEEEEHOOO! Definitely a must stop in Portland. I had a coconut haupia and best friend had guava lava flow both with mochi, and Best friends had glitter and gummies. So worth it! read more

I really wanted to try ube and this was the place I decided because I am not a fan of the pearls in boba. It was very delicious and I would definitely recommend, it has a vanilla and almost a nutty flavor. I got it minus the coconut shavings on top. read more
Spotted this place because it was close by to Powell's, and though I was a little doubtful at first (how good could a Hawaiian shave ice be here in Portland??) but I was actually pleasantly surprised. My order: rainbow with snow cap, regular size, $8 Pros: - Decent portions, and I liked the rainbow snow cap flavor because it reminded me of classic Hawaiian shave ice. It was a little on the sweeter side, but I didn't mind on this day because I was craving a dessert. The condensed milk was very delicious - Easy ordering via a QR code, this is not necessarily a sit-down establishment, although there are a few tables outside that are shaded since it's in this indoor hallway area. - The shave ice actually tasted quite authentic, not too icy or crunchy - Came out pretty quickly, wasn't a long wait. - Different sizes available Cons: - I have AT&T and the signal wasn't great right outside the establishment - I had to have a friend order for me on her phone unfortunately, so that can be annoying. - Parking can be tricky, so I would recommend walking/uberring/public transit in this area Overall, if I'm in this area I would definitely come back! Delicious on a hot day! There is contactless online ordering only which was a little difficult if you have AT&T since there is not a great signal close to the store. Me and my friends got: - Rainbow shave ice: a little sweet for my liking and heavy handed on syrups -- a solid shave ice combo that reminds you of being in Hawaii - Da Mango One: a must get if you like mangoes! Super delicious and topped with ripe mangoes. What's not to like! - Guava Flow: guava flavor was delicious throughout! I didn't know what to expect from the haupia foam, but I was pleasantly surprised by the lightness of the foam. Tasted like I was eating a cloud. read more
