I am an extremely anxious and sensitive dental patient. I hate to have dental treatment as most others do. I found an outstanding office that has the best staff and incredible dental services I have ever experienced. I have had my teeth cleaned by the best hygienist and the dental work I received was absolutely painless! I explained my fears at the very beginning and they really tried to put me at ease. I have been going to this dental practice since the early 1980s. The staff is absolutely wonderful! They are friendly and accommodating. The front desk greets you with a smile, calls you by name, and is prepared for your visit. They know their patients. When you are having dental work done, they keep you comfortable and act as if there is nothing they would rather be doing than seeing you for your appointment. When Dr. Wassell gives you novacaine, you do not feel it. The dentists are skilled and make great decisions regarding treatment plans. This is the best practice in Raleigh!! read more

I have had really bad experiences with my past dentist, and I have an anxiety disorder, so I had avoided going to the dentist for three years when I looked up local dentists. I chose Wainwright and Wassel because of their great Yelp reviews. I have not been disappointed. So far, I've had my initial assessment, two sets of fillings, and a cleaning. Everything about my experience with them has been good. Dr. Wainwright is really, really good at what he does, as far as I can tell. He makes me feel really comfortable with him, and of the four novocaine shots he's given me, one I couldn't feel at all, two were mildly uncomfortable but not at all painful, and one was mildly painful but not even to the point of making me flinch. I have a fairly low pain tolerance and tend to tense up which makes it worse, so that's really saying something! My appointments have been quick - pretty much exactly the amount of time they told me they would take. Also, he's really good about explaining everything he's doing and answering my questions in ways I can understand. He also is really good about giving me agency in my own dental work. He lets me choose whether to use nitrous oxide or not in order to help with my anxiety and low pain tolerance; he asks lots of questions during the procedure (whether I'm numb yet, what I'm feeling, if anything is painful) and he was REALLY good about responding quickly the couple of time I indicated something was wrong (too much nitrous, both times.) Jordan, my dental assistant, is also awesome at her job. My first visit, she talked to me and got to know me so much that it feels like she is my friend, not just someone who I'm paying to do work on my teeth. She is also awesome about answering my questions, explaining everything, giving me choices, and making me feel comfortable. She and Dr. Wainwright work together really well. Administratively, everything has also been a great experience. In the initial visit, they just took pictures and X-rays, assessed everything, and explained all the information to me - what they had found, where the problems were, and what they expected to do about it. They even gave me a full itemized list of how much everything would cost and how much they expected insurance to pay for it (and they've been spot on so far except for one thing that actually cost me less than they predicted.) I've never had to wait any noticeable amount of time for anything, and every single person at the office has seemed friendly and trustworthy. So, in summary, my experiences so far with Wainwright and Wassel have been helping to reverse my terrible associations with dentistry! They are awesome, and I could not recommend them more fully. read more

Some of the hygienists are good. And dental assistants. But the dentists themselves. At least one does not have the patient's best interest in mind. And he changes his story as to what suits him best in the moment. I would not recommend going to this dentist at all. Please let me know if you know of a good dentist. read more

I have had three separate appointments at this office, along with one follow-up appointment, and they have all been exceptional. I was already incredibly impressed with my first visit when the front room seemed more like hanging out in a comfortable living room than in a medical waiting room. And then every single employee was friendly and welcoming. You could tell they all actually liked working there! (And how you know you've found any good business is in how much the employees like it!) The dental assistant, Jordan, then toured me around the office as a new patient. She cared to hear about my concerns and questions before any examination was even done. Then I had a host of super easy x-rays and photos taken as a part of my initial visit. I even got to see them on the TV! This became another major plus for this office - they show you all of their concerns and recommendations to you on your own dental photos. You'll never feel like you're not in control of your own medical treatments! And then, that same day, they were able to squeeze me in for my first dental cleaning! That saved me time to get it all done at once! I have had two appointments to have very old fillings replaced since then. After the first one, there was a tremendous amount of unexpected pain. I emailed my dental assistant who responded promptly and with concern for me. I was able to go see them to have my teeth looked at following the procedure. You could tell that Dr. M Wainright really cared about the quality of his work and that his patients were fully taken care of. He told me that if it needed to be done, he would remove the fillings and redo it all at no cost to me to make sure they were right. Thankfully, that didn't need to be done because I just had some strange reaction to the bonding agent or something and my pain went away later. I have seen the same dental assistant and dentist on four separate occasions now and a handful of different office personnel but they have all been extremely pleasant and I've not had any anxiety whatsoever about getting my dental work done there. In fact, I'm already recommending it to coworkers who haven't found "their" dentist yet. read more

My family and I have been going to Dr. Wainright's office for many years, and they have been very good to us. We have received great care from cleanings, wisdom teeth removal, crowns, and fillings to referrals for orthodontics. Each of the dentists are knowledgeable and have been kind as well. The staff in this office are always friendly and helpful, and they have been really accommodating with our kids' schedules once they went off to college. We would recommend this practice to anyone. We would also like to give a special note of appreciation for Heather who has been cleaning and checking our teeth for a few years now. She is gentle but thorough with her cleaning, and I feel like I'm visiting a friend whenever I see her for my appointments. My father and I have been patients here for five years. Far and away, this is the best, friendliest and most comprehensive dental treatment we have ever received. Dr. Wassel and Janise are fantastic and do a great job of making sure I am comfortable and well-informed as to what procedure they are performing. They work together as a great team which makes me feel more at ease and relaxed. Just what I want when sitting in a dentist's chair! They are both always observant to ensure that my visit is pain-free - and I totally appreciate that! The entire staff is very friendly, helpful and caring. I really like the fact that the practice provides so many services, including getting a new crown placed in just one visit.
