Why does Long Grove always feel like some magical far away place when it's really much closer to me…read morethan most places I go? It's probably because of spots like this. When my yelp friends check-in places I always take a peek and add the interesting stuff to my massive and unorganized list of anything and everything I could ever want to try... this place popped up a few times, and I do love good pastries, so I had to make a trip. I say pastries but what really sold me was the pizza slice a buddy got, a savory excuse always helps. I got there before the dinner rush. I know that because it was calm when I got in line, though the line was full. When I left the place was crowded. There are actually 2 lines. One for savory and one for sweet. So like I said, I was here for that pizza slice... and I got it. I'm not sure if they make more throughout the day but there were just a few slices left that I could see. Score! But I do want to say that the more filling pasta dishes and such look AMAZING. I saw gorgonzola garlic bread and had to try that as well... and an arancini. Everything really looked so good, I wanted it all. It's a good thing I love bread because I ate a lot of it here! Great flavor and texture on the garlic bread, I love the little funk from the cheese. Arancini was fried up nicely and didn't retain excess oil. The slice is really good. It's a fair warning that it's about 90% bread, but I understand they make their own dough here and it shows. The crust is so crispy and airy, it's a nice experience. Next up, dessert. I grabbed a Nutella croissant and some gelato, both delicious! The gelato was rich and creamy. The croissant, which they fill to order with your choice of flavors, is another flex on how good their dough and bread baking skills are. Perfect texture, no notes. Would and will eat again. Amazing atmosphere that feels like a quick vacation, and outdoor tables perfect for the warm season. Friendly and inviting staff as well, they tried to sell me on the pear flavor gelato. Maybe next time. This is a not so hidden gem of a spot and a must try for bread lovers! I'll be back soon for pasta and more!

Update after 9 months: it's still our regular to-go place but the cashier service is getting worse…read moreand worse. They were super busy when just opened up but service was fast and accurate. It seems like they hired more people and the same change staff often. Cashier is always taking forever to take orders. They are always confused with what's going on especially for takeout orders. This place is so special for us and we really hope they can recognize the problem and frustration they have caused.

I had a magnificent pain au chocolate. The breakfast soufflé was very nice. I purchased some of the bars to take home. They were very popular with my family. I got a taste of the Snickerdoodle one and it was very delicious. I had not seen this variety of bar cookie before but I hope to find some again soon.

They also make custom cakes and other baked items. A cool day called for a coffee. If hanging out in this lakeside town, it's better to go here than some chain coffee place. The prices aren't that bad for an independent business like this. Inside there's a couple tables and a couch. Space is limited but charm isn't. I got a Cinnamon Sugar Latte, which was one of the seasonal coffees. It's $6 for a regular. This had plenty of spice and sweetness along with some vanilla. Best place in town to get coffee. It feels a lot like being in someone's living room. There's also pastries that you can get at the counter or you can make an order for cakes or whatever.

The smell when you walk in is…read moredefinitely noticeable--very much that fresh, oily fried dough scent--but the display cases looked great and everything was nicely presented. There's seating inside, and I appreciated that the tables weren't packed too closely together. It felt comfortable and not overcrowded. They had about 7-8 varieties of pączki to choose from. I grabbed a dozen rose (a classic go-to for me) and also tried the limoncello and the caramel bacon. The limoncello was really good--the custard lemon filling inside was flavorful and smooth. The rose was delicious, just how it should be. The caramel bacon was something new for me; it had that savory-sweet combo that's definitely a specific taste. Not for everyone, but interesting to try! Overall, a solid spot to grab pączki for Fat Tuesday.

While the bakery items lessened the food items have increased to include Ukranian borshdt, beet soups, other soups, and a growing breakfast menu (strawberry creme crepes are yummy). The potato cheese perogi with carmalized onions cooked in beef tallow and the Spring salad are my favorites. I brought a family of 5-adults on Christmas eve when we enjoyed all of my favorites including a specialty rosemary and thyme duck with a sweet bourbon sauce. Lovely Christmas music added to the festivity. Good times!

I love that it is light, rich, but not overly sweet. I am a huge fan of chocolate mousse in cake and they have perfected it. And to top it off with the chocolate ganache... YUM! I told my husband it's probably the best birthday cake I've had and I hope he remembers that for next year. We also picked up some almond croissants and chocolate croissants and both were delish... to me they were a bit on the smaller side though. The cafe is really cute and clean with a sitting area. We came an hour before closing, so options were limited but they do have a big display case and would love to go back and check out what else they have to offer. I am a fan of flourless cake- so hoping to get to try a slice the next visit.

I'm addition to their baked goods they also offer coffees, teas, and there's a small refrigerator with cheeses and some selections of wine and local honey on the side. The ambiance does have a bit of a European feel and there is a decent amount of indoor seating.
