I'm sure most of you folks have been to a Walmart at one time or another...........I for one am a big fan of Walmart because I'm ghetto lil' dat! Lol! I cannot tell you how many times I've been to this particular Walmart on Maui, and this store has saved me many times when I needed something while I was doing work on Maui. How can I forget, like the time my coworker got his Aloha shirt caught on one of the machines were were working on, and the machine tore a big gaping hole in the back of his shirt! Lol! Lucky for him, Walmart was the place where he stopped by to pick up an Aloha shirt so he wouldn't have to walk around with a big gaping hole in his shirt. I for one have stopped by here many times when I needed a tool, as I find Walmart to have pretty reasonable prices for their tools. When I have to box up broken parts to ship back to the mainland, and run out of shipping tape, Walmart is a great place to pick up shipping supplies...........Walmart has just about anything, and everything you need! This Walmart on Maui is pretty unique, as I saw that this location actually has an automotive service center (although I'm not sure on what kind of services they provide). On Oahu, I normally go to the Walmart in town (on Keeaumoku Street), and that particular Walmart does not offer any type of automotive services. If you ever need clothes, electronics, tools, food & snacks, personal care products, food for your doggie or kitty............Walmart probably has everything ya need here! The parking situation right now is terrible. They are currently repaving the whole lot and while they have a good amount complete, if you're planning to come here in the afternoon after pau hana, don't. I needed to pick something up for work and immediately regretted pulling into the parking lot that day. Unfortunately, because of the construction going on, I was stuck and couldn't turn around and was at the mercy of the traffic flow. BAH! Oh well, since I couldn't turn around anyway, I ended up going into the store to get what I needed. I don't normally come to Walmart anymore since Target opened up down the block, but every time I do come, I'm reminded of how some items are actually much cheaper here! E.g. food items, house wares, etc. The great part about this location is that they have a decent craft selection (a few aisles worth) and have a range for fabrics for sewing projects. They also have an auto center, garden center, & home improvement section with paint, stains, tools, etc. which Target lacks. Oh and did I mention they have a McDonald's! So go here if that's what you're mainly looking for. What's had me excited over the past few visits though were all the super cute fox items that I've been seeing. Anything fox themed was extremely hard to find just a few years ago. It was my "thing/theme" for my son. Thank goodness though 'cause I would've been like Walmart take all my money now! We came here several times during our vacation for essentials that we ran out of. Easy to navigate around the store, love that it has a souvenir shop, great finds at a good price. An entire aisle of Hawaiian candy, chocolate, cookies etc. LOTS of Hawaiian shirts and dresses for women, hats, etc! If you need a shirt for a luau this place has a very large variety! read more

So disappointing to buy these nice walnut tv tables and then discover that the sticker plastered right in the center of the tray, taking up about 75% of the top of the tables, will not peel off, takes 20 minutes to scrape and peel and leaves a residue from the glue. Maui could probably use another location with how busy this Walmart is but. Be prepared to be crowded around by people at every turn. The aisles are small and the setup of the store makes no sense. I've never seen another Walmart setup the same as this location. It was difficult to navigate and locate what you're looking for. After being there for a few minutes, we quickly realized that we needed to buy enough items for our entire vacation because there was no way we were going back. You can't go wrong with a Walmart, as they have so many things and generally you're getting price competitive cost efficiencies. They do sell Macadamia Nuts, etc. so as a cheaper alternative to the famous ABC STORES, you can come here and pay a bit less for the same products. This Walmart even has a special section for Souvenirs as well as Local Hawaiian Tourist Favorites (stuff to bring home or give as gifts) and Hawaiian Attire too. Above and beyond the local stuff, they have the rest of the traditional Walmart staples of things local residents would buy for every day consumption and use. Parking was easy here. read more

Our go to place! I prefer Cost co and Target better but Walmart has pretty much anything. The problem is, you feel like a low class when you go in there. A lot of stuff is locked and you need to ask for assistance. Assistants look like they hate their jobs. Also when you walk out, they check your receipts! What a shame! read more

Compared to Target, I like that Walmart has a dedicated souvenir section with an assortment of macadamia nuts (you can't find multiple flavors at Target) that is right at the entrance. Plus it has more local candy than Target. You can also find a McDonalds which is convenient. But the store can be busy and a bit hectic. read more

It seems dumb to review a Walmart, but hear me out. As a Maui FAN and frequent Maui visitor, I almost feel dumb that it wasn't until now that I've discovered how great this Walmart is. My husband and I have our little Maui routine when we come here, and that involves having breakfast, coffee, and snack stuff stocked at our condo. We will go out to a dinner or happy hour daily, but for early morning snorkeling or lazy beach days we like having easy options readily available. Like the rest of the country, prices have gone way up since COVID. When we brought our young adult sons with us one trip, Costco made sense. When it is just us, it does not. This most recent trip the inflation was even more apparent. A box of cereal was $10 at several stores. We stopped at this Walmart (honestly on a whim, I needed one thing) and WOW! REASONABLY PRICED STUFF! The store was clean, organized, friendly staff, and they have a great little touristy area with gifts and souvenirs. If you love Maui, and you love getting some basics from a grocery store, head here. read more

ZERO STARS! The workers are beyond rude and disrespectful. At self check out today sales associate Milagroso and Team Lead Sheryl definitely made us feel uncomfortable and seemed to be judging us as they watched us scan the items we bought at self check out. As a local resident, I've noticed the customer service from the workers have diminished, hands down this has to be the worst walmart in Hawaii, customer service wise. No aloha. I left Maui 1.5 years ago but I'm leaving this review because I just said to my wife, "do you remember Matt from the Walmart in Kahului?!" and she did. Matt was often at the left-hand double registers at checkout. Those registers are typically efficient, but Matt was the coolest machine. Dude just had a gift for smooth operation and empathically knowing what people would want. I'm never this person elsewhere, but I would deliberately seek out Matt's line. Matt was Cal Ripken, Jr. reliable. So 5* to a corporate big store because they found Matt. I don't know if he's still there, but Walmart and all shoppers in Central/South Maui are lucky if he is. Hopefully he's still on Maui, cuz Kama'āina deserve a Matt on the island. read more

There have been a lot of physical changes to Walmart. The new parking lot & just recently when I went in, the self check out has moved from the far right to the middle. There seem to be more people monitoring that area now like you are directed to the next open one. Which now that I think of it, that's how it was when we were in California just a few months ago. I know that even with being across the street from each other,some people still prefer one over the other. I could go either way, depending on what I need. Crafting & baking is Walmart all the way with the wide variety. They still have a sewing section which is nice along with printing photos which its competitor does not. Along with the tire automotive area, which I have never used, but seems to always be busy. Also upon leaving they no longer just look into your bag & mark your receipt. This last time, the worker scanned my receipt then pulled one item out & scanned that. Was it so that they could see if that item was on my receipt? I really have no idea. read more

Walmart has taken up the slack since Kmart closed. It's right by Target (they're nearly across the street from each other), so it's easy to visit both. The store is very popular, so it gets crowded, and stuff runs out. The A/C is not great so it's often warm and humid inside. At peak times trying to get in and out of the parking lot will test your patience. But the prices are good, and it can be one-stop or nearly one-stop shopping. There is a large grocery section with refrigerated, frozen, and shelf-stable foods. If you can put up with the drawbacks, it's worth a visit, especially if you don't have a Costco card or don't need massive quantities of an item. read more

This Wal Mart was pretty huge and had a great selection of items. I felt that it was one of the cleaner wal marts I've been to. The parking lot had "lot cops"- which are machines with cameras. I am wondering if their parking lots get robbed often because of the high tourist numbers in the area. read more

Update- parking lot in the back is now open. They do have WiFi it's just so spotty it's easier to use my own personal data others may have better experiences. They are putting new aisle designations with security cameras. There are Christmas items already available and Thanksgiving staples. ---------------------------- Parking is currently a nightmare because there is only one entry and exit for this Walmart location. Clearly there needs to be another entry and exit planned in order to accommodate the amount of customers they have. No signage outside had been posted on how long they estimate for the parking lot revisions. Some items like in the pet department and stationary are astronomically more affordable here than at Target or Petco. Prices for food is about the same for some of the staples like apples, bread and milk. But for the most part Walmart is going to help you save a few dollars on all of your shopping needs. What's frustrating is when their shelves consistently remain out of stock on certain items. Be aware of the changes in their return policy that happened a while back it's a lot stricter than it used to be. So save those receipts or download the app to input your purchases that way so you can make the returns. After a few months Walmart is "unable" to locate your purchase on their systems (at least that's how it was explained to me). Saving a dollar or certain items isn't going to keep me braving this location while this parking lot is being fixed. Oh and there isn't WiFi. read more

I really hate to point out the obvious here but this location is kind of gritty. From the parking lot to the freezer aisles, everything looks like it could use a nice swiffer or vacuuming. I had ideas of picking up some fruit here but couldn't bring myself to do it because the store just felt unclean. There was a guy shopping with his little dog off-leash just running around on the ground and in general it didn't make me want to stay any longer than it would take to get a large pack of water and snacks. read more

Good and decent prices for every day items. My favorite is to look at the different sales and sometimes I score some affordable and stylish-looking clothing or a nice DVD/Blu-Ray or two. I noticed it looked like their shelves were looking more and more full/stocked. It's nice to have options to choose from. Interesting new procedure when you enter the store. If you have a backpack with you or a bag bigger than a backpack, then you have to leave it in their free lockers at the front of the store if you're not comfortable leaving your bags in your car. I'm torn about this because on one hand, it's great that they're making efforts to prevent theft. On the other hand, I feel that it assumes that everyone with a backpack is a thief -- which I don't personally appreciate. read more

Stopped here upon arriving in Maui to get some essentials and food to take back to our airbnb. The store was clean and shelves were stocked. I appreciate that they had all the essentials for the island life/beach haha. This review is most recent I walked in and noticed that a security guard was following me that made me uncomfortable as we continued to shop the security guard followed me the entire time and made my entire family of 3 small children and my girlfriend then when checking out after telling the cashier that we had 2 carts with so many items in both carts after this cashier took about 10 minutes to ring in only a few items she had missed the items that was told to her so this was an error on the cashier then during the exit the person checking carts had said that 2 items were not accounted for and continued to argue with my girlfriend and not say how to fix the error she made as if we were trying to steal 2 packs of water worth 9$ overall we spent about 100 with only a few items but this was not even the very beginnings of this entire headache previous to us getting there we had made a pick up order and then we were notified that the items that were in our cart was not available? So why would it be added to my cart if the item was not available this was the first flag that I recognized way before going through this traumatizing fiasco I had told my girlfriend that this was a major red flag and that we should take our business elsewhere but she wanted to go so we did and now I am very disappointed everyone from the security guard, the cashier, the person checking carts and even the pick up order department are simple unprofessional and incapable of giving shoppers a good experience they need so much work for this reason I will NEVER shop at a Walmart again good riddance read more

So I went here to get tires balanced and rotated. What a joke. I get there and one of the guys is helping a woman in the parking lot so I stand there waiting my turn. Here comes an older Haole guy walks right past me. The guy in the repair bay with the knee brace proceeds to help him right away. I say to the guy nicely that I have been here waiting for a while and the Walmart employee says oh the other guy will help you. WTF ? I tell him I am there for there balancing and tire rotation special. What does the village idiot do but charge me for two different services. Instead of the one that he was supposed to charge me for. Now that's pretty bad since it is advertised in big bold letters but I guess there employees are too stupid to read there own sign. The sad thing is I am local and all the techs there are local but I guess they just don't care about customer service or taking care of locals. Guess we not good enough for them. I reversed into a pipe/rail that sricks out by auro area. At night its dark nit well lit. The rail when reversing is not visible. Im driving a minivan. There is no tire bump on ground to stop you from backing into it. When i reported it to night manager he said it was my word no witness. I said what about that camara by auto bldg. He said id need to file a police report and get a lawyer to have permission to check video. Hw could care less. Since then I've met 5 strangers who went through the same thing and thw manager dont care. Yes all of Maui come shop here.. Were the only store like this on. Spend thousands of dollars here yearly. Who said Walmart is right outside the airport, making it easy and convenient after landing? Walmart is the only place in Maui where I could get a Tracfone compatible sim card for my cell phone. It is behind Costco somewhere off of Dairy Road, the main street leading to Kihei and Lahaina from the airport. GPS can't find satellite connection, so I'm driving around in circles, with the wife nagging me, and unable to read street signs until it is too late. We overshoot. No U turns at all in downtown Kahului. Eventually find Walmart, hidden from the main road, behind the Home Depot and Target, 1.2 miles from Costco. Saturday at noon, every parking spot is taken, with cars circling like vultures looking for cars pulling out. We get one of the most distant spots, about 200 yards from the entrance. Huge place with a garden center, tire center, and main store. McDonalds right inside the entrance. $7 for a loaf of bread!? Welcome to Hawaii. It's cheaper than paying $9 for the bundled two loaf package of bread at Costco. If I eat two loafs of bread in our one week stay, I'll bust my pants. We skip all the clothing, packaged snack food, souvenir and gift sections. Associate directs us to the electronics section way in the back of the store. Helpful service. The $10 sim card package is bloated up to the size of a hardbound book, is locked onto the storage stand. Requires an associate to unlock the package. What type of people steal a $10 sim card? People who shop Walmart, I guess. Place is like Costco, combination supermarket and department store, but not as low prices, and you don't have to buy in bulk. Lower prices than next door Target. Didn't see any derrieres like on www.peopleofwalmart.com. Unlike Costco, no lines. No line at the electronics cashier booth, and no lines at the guard check out exit, where they check your receipt against the items you purchased. We get back to the car, with another car waiting for our spot, even though we are in the bleachers section of the parking lot. Parking definitely tougher to get here than at Costco. Get into the wrong lane on Pokaula St, and end up turning the wrong way on Airport road. End up at Kahului airport 1.9 miles away, and through an electronic gate into the paid airport parking lot. I explain sheepishly that I made a wrong turn to the attendant. The white attendant doesn't bat an eye. Just another case of driving while Asian! read more

I've never been to a Walmart who has security posted at the entrance and exit. This store does get pretty busy most hours of the day and you can expect to wait in line and have crowded aisles and parking lot. One thing I really appreciated was that they are good at making sure everyone is wearing a mask when entering the store due to Covid. read more

I have been so many times and im still discovering items and departments. Wanna go on a hike and explore some beautiful parts of Maui but forgot hiking boots? No problem $20. Left a flip flop on the beach? For less then $6 get new ones. Wanna watch sun come up at haleakala but not jacket? $24 gets u a really nice zip up with the islands on the back and hi on the front. Need the quintessential hawaiian mac nuts? Get em here lots of options. Plus can get great tropical scented lotions, soap and chapstick. Kauai kiss is my favorite and its a great price and gift. Why is everyone at this Walmart such a-holes? From the electronics department to the toy isles to the housewares and clothing, the only nice employees are the door greaters and the checkout clerks. Everyone that works there act like you're inconveniencing them by asking them where something is or when you ask for help- basically asking them to do their jobs- and a majority are straight up rude, short, and dismissive. Just as the 3 stars suggests: A-OK What can you really expect from Walmart unless it's actually located in Arkansas (I believe that's where the corporate locations are )? You can expect the typical crazy parking lot antics. Trash and randomly discarded dirty diaper in the bushes. Come here for: Banking McDonald's Huge assortment of MacNuts, Jams, Jellies and the typical take the the mainland corner of: calendars, magnets, luggage tags, coffee mugs and of course coffee. You'll also find some Hawaiian clothing that actually IS MADE on Maui or a different island. Depending on what you're shopping for, you'll find reasonably priced for Maui items. You can also find some decent pantry staples for cheap like: Almond Flour, most Grains and Cereals, Produce - A lot of which is Grown in the US not necessarily locally, but still that's a plus. Bad things: On Sundays and Mondays, they drop off the folks from the cruise ship. It is MADNESS!! Can you imagine an entire cruise ship or two of people suddenly embarking upon Walmart. Not every body on this ship has the aloha spirit either. :( Your vehicle will never leave this parking lot unscathed unless you park very far away from the entrance. Expect a crowd at all hours.
