I normally don't write reviews but I feel uncomfortable every time I go to the Union ave Tacoma location. I swear, every few minutes I hear some lady over the intercom yelling at the employees??? Is this even appropriate??? The amount of unprofessional attitude I see there amazes me! The employees there are intimidating and rude. Everything is a complete messy disaster and nothing is ever in stock. I just... Never felt sooo frustrated going into a store, your staff and MANAGEMENT needs a re-do. This Walmart specifically has lazy workers in the electronic department that works in the evening (Thursday's 5pm-8pm). I would show them an item I'm looking for where it says "in stock" and they would disregard it and say stuff "whatever we have is all we got". I would ask them repeatedly to check the back if there was any but they will make all the excuses in the world why they won't go check in the back. The light skin gentlemen that works there is the biggest loser who is pure lazy out of all them. Dec. 12th I came there to buy headphones and he was no help: wouldn't even try to look for the headphones in his system and where it's located. Today, Dec. 26th around 7pm, there was this dark skin, short girl, with barely any hair, with tattoos on her right wrist, who doesn't even know what she's talking about. She was the one that wouldn't even get store manager for me. I asked her to check the back for Fujifilm cause online it states "in stock" and she was making some bullshit excuses of "I'm pretty sure we don't have any, let me ask the light-skin kid...again" Walmart got to do better on hiring people who actually want to work. Twice, have I came in to look for a specific item in electronic around the same time in 2 different days. The same gentlemen (light skin kid) would never help me nor attempt to get help for me. Look its a Walmart and like it or not you are not going to get the best kind of characters here with it being in Tacoma no less. The place is always crowded even during business hours when everyone is at work. The parking lot is tight but plenty of parking. Getting in and out is almost a hazard from the parking lot. The security truck the drives around is pretty much just wasting gas since they dont do anything but make traffic or cut you off because" they have the right away all the time ". The store is well kept and the staff if you can find them will try to help you if they can from what I seen. Most of the time the staff seem overwhelmed or stressed out before you even ask a question. The only ones that don't are the ones at the doors and they are not really doing anything. This store will have everything Walmart is supposed to have and what you need. Just have to get passed a few obstacles to get it. read more

Oye! Where do I start! Ok, I got this.....I was in the store doing my grocery shopping. I was trying to find my soup. The shelves were "faced" but with many of the wrong products. I had to pull product off the shelves, reach way in the back and sift through various soups to find what I needed. It was early and I also needed ink for my printer but there was none on the shelf....another product had been stocked in its location but it was completely wrong and not even compatible. I waited a good 10 minutes for help. All I wanted to know if there was ink in the back store room that would work. The woman wouldn't look on the computer or in back. I obviously put her out. She actually said "do you know what I make?" And walked away. The worst was the homeless fella that seriously smelled like poop. I watched two workers laughing and holding their noses right in front of me and the poor guy. Might I just add this guy's cart was full of food that he could not possibly carry out the store and that cart of food was most likely put back on the shelves for you the customer. Making fun of this guy though was extremely unprofessional and abusive. After seeing the workers laughing and gagging, I left and went to Target. read more

Nope. Nope. NOPE. For many years, one of Tacoma's best features has been it's lack of a Walmart store. Alas, that time has passed-- and now we can look forward to the closure of many small businesses (a nearby supermarket, that had been in business for 20 years, has already folded rather than compete with this store) and myriad other problems (increased traffic congestion, for starters). The 'low, low prices' at these stores are deceptive: Walmart likes to bait shoppers with big, bright signs advertising great deals on some products while charging more for others. Many of the goods sold here are cheap because they are CHEAP-- a friend of mine once bought an aluminum cook set for camping, and burned a hole right through the pot on it's first use. The tent he had also purchased at Walmart didn't make it through the weekend, either. And then there was the time that I purchased an inexpensive DVD player at a Walmart (I was out of town at the time, and happened to be in one of the many sad communities that have no shopping alternative) only for it to crap out on me a few months later. Turned out there had been a recall on this particular 'Walmart exclusive' electronic device: there had been a problem with some of the units catching fire!! Only the crappiest of Chinese-made garbage is sold here... Countless news stories over the years have told the tale of unethical business practices, mistreatment of employees, racism, sexism, and other problems with the world's third largest public corporation. I can only hope that the people of Tacoma have enough sense to stay away from this place and let it die quietly, but unfortunately it will be other businesses (and citizens, judging by the Lakewood store's record) that will die. There has recently been an increase in regional marketing from the Walmart Corporation: they are currently running advertisements that specifically target their locally-based and unionized competition, Fred Meyer (well, sort of locally based-- FM's HQ is in Portland, but their parent company, Kroger, is in Ohio... still, at least their employees have a union and benefits, unlike Walmart's!). The ads are misleading and 'dirty'; I don't see Fred Meyer going out of their way to slander Walmart. read more

A MAN'S MAN Review of Walmart in Tacoma, WA This place is a 1 star upgrade from the Walmart located in LakeHOOD. Why? Because I can actually find sh*t without having to close my eyes while shopping here. At the Lakewood location I'm having to close my eyes because of the sights I witness with my precious eye-balls. Let's not get it twisted tho! Your still going to see things that no child or man/woman should ever have to witness but let's give this place credit but not too much credit because then these folks running the Tacoma location all of a sudden think they better than the other Walmarts. Whatever! I still shop at the Lakewood location since it's closer to me but this location is my preferred Walmart. They have made improvements at this location in having more cashiers available at rush hour at the registers but still only have one associate at customer service. I'm assuming they took the second associate from customer service and moved him/her to the upfront registers because now going to customer service is slower. Super slow! I mean you have a long line of baby mommas, meth heads, the elderly, and my a*s at customer service getting all worked up because there's only one Walmart associate at customer service. I don't get all hot but I can see the frustrations coming from the other shoppers. It's like the senior citizens get so frustrated and end up stepping out of line because their hip is about to give out waiting... to me I just slide on up like a G and slowly ooze my way up to the front but I'm still waiting behind the meth-heads trying to return something they've probably lifted earlier in the day with that five finger discount. If your checking out and all registers are long with other shoppers I recommend that you go down towards the pharmacy and walk past the health & beauty aisles and you'll see a lonely Walmart associate with her own register. Your very welcome! Reading my Yelp reviews does have it advantages! My reviews aren't always rants. If there isn't an associate there when you try to pull a quick one then my bad! So it'll be a 50/50 chance you might get lucky but if my ears start to burn red hot all of sudden then I know your talking about me. I stopped being nice because that one dude at the LakeHOOD Safeway awhile ago asked me for bus money and being a nice guy that I am gave him some bus money but instead of walking towards the bus depo this fool walks the opposite direction. I don't understand why Walmart corporate goes through all of the trouble to set up a beautiful deli department, carry the best of meats and then they have a deli manager that just does not know how to build a business. I try every week to get my deli meats at this Walmart and I end up having to go to Safeway (the lesser of the two evils) to get my what I need for the week. I am always in line behind two other people. If both are getting several types of meat and cheese, it can take 20-25 minutes before you are next. You can't leave your order and go shopping because it will either be wrong or sliced a mile too thick if you are not there to watch. I ask why there is only one person on a Saturday slicing meat, and I'm told we have one slicer for meat and one for cheese. Meanwhile the third slicer sitting there is not getting used at all. That is just a spare in case something happens to the other two. Get a decent manager, put them on some kind of bonus based on building the business, get all slicers working and get a few people waiting on customers at the same time the way it should be. If you close the deli at 9am, don't start telling people at 7:30 that the slicers are clean and we can't slice meat. If it is the store manager responsible for training the deli manager, then get on him or her to do so. What is wrong with Walmart Corporate that they don't send corporate people into the stores to see how they are being ran. I have spoken to the Walmart store manager at this location. He is a really nice guy and seems like he really wants to try to re-train the deli staff to make his store better. I just don't think that he has the right staff to do that with. Clean house starting with the deli manager and start all over to try to actually build a good deli business in this store. I see numerous people walking up the counter, wanting to order and then just leaving when they see one person and a line. What a shame. Employees want to discourage business, and Walmart just wants to spend money setting up these deli's to just look good and sell packaged products. What a shame! read more

I was at the Lakewood walmart looking for a game. They did not have it in stock so I asked if they can find out if the Tacoma store has it. The sales guy called 3-4 times with no luck on them picking up the phone at the electronics department. When he asked for a manager they hung up on him. So I called and asked for the manager, they hung up on me also. Never got to talk to anyone at the Tacoma store. Worst customer service ever! Thanks to the nice and polite sales person at Lakewood, I will just go there from now on. read more

I'm not writing this for the lack of customer service but, for the walmart policies this store does not absorb. I had a Lifeproof case for the Iphone 5. No receipt policy online states "Walmart, for several years, has accepted returns without a receipt, even though many of our competitors require receipts for all returns. Walmart gives customers the option of a cash refund (if the purchase was under $25), a shopping card for the amount of the purchase (if it was over $25) or an even exchange for the product. Also, as applicable, we follow any manufacturer's warranties." Knowing that information I went in to my local walmart to get a refund, knowing that it was going to be a gift card. After scrupulous amount of time I was told that they can not honor that. They said that the walmart store manager's can make there own policies. They do not have to adhere to the corporate policies. That being known Im here writing my disgruntled letter. I wont do business with a place whose corporate structure can change when a store manager wants it to. Sincerly, Not going back. read more

This is my favorite Walmart around a lot better then the Lakewood Walmart. They keep the store pretty clean I love the self checkout this Walmart is also a lot more welcoming to you when you walk in and I was asked like 5 different times if I needed help finding anything. We lost our keys here today. Yes, I realize this is my fault, but neither the manager nor the store staff were very willing to help. We went to customer service, they called a manager twice then left for lunch. Before they both walked off, I asked them if they had called a manager and one woman replied, while walking away "yep, twice". The manager finally came (we waited about 10 minutes) and said there were no keys turned in. I asked her if she could make an announcement; she said she could, but if the keys had been found then they would have been turned in. I asked again to please make an announcement just in case a shopper had picked them up and put them on a shelf. She said they always get turned in. Instead of just making a quick announcement, she sat there and argued with me that they ALWAYS get turned in. Then, she didn't even take down my number just in case they were found. I didn't like this Walmart before because there are never enough check stands open, now I detest this place and will not be back. read more

Oh my gosh! Worst Walmart ever! Super dirty and just poor customer service. I was at the register and wanted to buy a T-shirt that was on clearance and the tag showed $3, however when the cashier rung it up it showed $9. The cashier didn't say anything or inform me of the difference until I questioned it and instead of trying to help me out she was like well it rung up $9, sorry. And she continued to ring up my stuff and I told her to stop and take off that t-shirt. She sighed at me and started to get frustrated like I'm an inconvenience. Oh well!!! I will never do business with them again! I recently was at this location and had an unsavory experience, I had been standing in a line to an Express Checkout lane, there was 4 or 5 people in line ahead of me, Clerk passed down the Lane Closed sign to the man in front of me and said he was the last one to be checked out, so I with to another lane and waited an additional 20 minutes just to get up to the counter. After I was done I asked the Clerk to page the manager, I told him how that express lane clerk treated me, he apologized and said he would talk to that person, this wasn't the first time I'd been treated badly by the staff at this store, but now it's the last! read more

This walmart's official store policy is that as you leave you must; 1) Turn over your receipt to the employee stationed at the door 2) Allow the employee to go through your bags of purchases 3) You cannot have your receipt back once you have turned it over to the employee. The employee will tear up your receipt and throw it away in front of you. My sister is on WIC and they took and went over all 4 of her receipts when we went there the day before yesterday. They also ran her card as debit instead of credit (in spite of her telling them to run it as credit), so that it came out of her bank account in stead of her bank credit line. Edit: 08/22/16 They will now allow you keep your receipt, and while they usually won't actually open and look through your bags anymore, you are still required to stop at the door and present your receipt. They also only have about 9 employees for the entire store. read more

My wife and I go here often and usually find what we are looking for. About a month ago we bought a $150 mattress topper and come to find out it was too soft. We had somehow lost the receipt. Apparently that is typically not an issue but we were over the limit by about $20 so were turned away. After we got home I called and was put through to the manager Nathan. He listened to my story and then figured out a way to help us out. I never do Yelp, and if you would have told me this morning that I would be posting a very positive Yelp review for my local Walmart I would have laughed out loud. But here I am at 10pm doing just that. Nathan, you have done us a solid and I will not forget that. Hopefully my email to upper management will be read and you will get some positive feedback from this. One of the worst Black Friday experiences. So unorganized lines going in every direction and nobody really knows whats going on. Security is not directing people down the right aisles to check out. Roughly 9:30 pm this evening, I purchased a wireless keyboard from this store. I debated going there, as every time I have, I've regretted it. Needing the keyboard, I steeled myself and went in. I found the keyboard, and made a bee-line for the registers, luckily finding one that wasn't to busy, and was able to pay and get out of there in a fairly timely manner. What I thought was my first positive experience with this store was short lived, as I discovered that the usb receiver for the keyboard was missing. It wasn't just missing, the compartment where it should have been was ripped and smashed. I needed the keyboard, so back I go, only to be told by the manager that there was nothing she could do. I told her that all I wanted to do was exchange it for one that was intact. That is, after all, what I had paid for. Nope. She wouldn't have it. "Sorry, you'll have to come back tomorrow. Wish I could help" was all I got from her. She even said that "Service has to try to figure out what happened to it, be cause we don't tape these closed, they come that way". like I was somehow responsible. Not to mention that I could care less! I paid for a working item, and that's all I wanted. Why do I need to be part of some "investigation." I asked her one last time, if she could just go grab me one that was intact and exchange them, and she said no. She was the manager on duty on 1.3.15 at 11pm. Shelly I believe. I'm going back tomorrow, returning the keyboard for a full refund, driving the extra fifteen minutes to Best Buy and getting the same on e there. Litterally irate with Walmart right now. going to call the manager in the morning after I calm down. so I can speak with out the f bomb. just went to Walmart for some groceries. as we were leaving , the receipt police stopped us because the milk wasn't bagged. I realize they have some kind of policy. but it was milk for crist sake. as I'm trying to find the receipt (in my haste to leave, after being in line for what seemed an eternity I tossed it somewhere and was now frantically trying to find it ) this lady blocked my and my son from leaving the store. as this was happening other people walked out with item much more valuable than the milk. I looked for about 3 to 5 minutes and she stood in front of us blocking us the whole time saying we needed the receipt to leave. then asked my son how many item he had in his bag? what is this legal? we didn't set off any alarms on the door. his stuff is all bagged. . finally I found the receipt and handed it to her. she carefully examined it for more than a min. before finally letting us leave . again I realize there may be a policy but I think she carried it too far and treated us like a criminal. I will not be back to that Walmart unless I get an apology from management. read more

I'm there a lot because it's closer and the prices are cheaper but I'm started to feel uncomfortable shopping there. This Walmart seems to have a lot of toxic people working there, they stalk their customers, and every 3 seconds I hear a woman yell at other co workers over the intercom and I find it unprofessional, this happens every time I'm there and I'm tired of hearing some person with big attitude over the loud speaker. This place is extremely unorganized. Everything there isn't where they belong especially when you shop for clothes it looks like people just basically threw laundry on the floor, gross. This really shows how Walmart values their employees to the point where their employees don't care. This is the most bottom of the barrel Walmart I've ever been to and sorry, not sorry to say but I'm no longer shopping there. There's one in Lakewood I can go to, just a little bit of a distance but I'm tired of feeling all the negativity and dirty looks when I'm there. I hope you hire decent human beings soon because this location needs a complete re-do. PLEASE give people more jobs and hire more people, when I was also there sometime a week or two ago, there was absolutely zero cashiers and I refuse to use self checkout because I believe that people need jobs! Decided to come to this store after a bad experience at the Lakewood store, entrances and exits can be awkward and confusing. Aisles are laid out a little weird, things might not necessarily be where you think they are, so it takes a couple of minutes to figure out the layout. The shelves were a little more under control, I was actually able to find something that matched the sign. There's a subway in there as well as a mcdonalds and starbucks nearby, which makes the location a little bit better I suppose. They have a self check out which definitely helped make my transaction go a lot faster! read more

Rotten produce, long lines and I ordered sliced roast beef in the deli. I asked for as thin as she could slice it without it crumbling. I got home to make french dips and I had slabs of roast in the bag NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR! Now I know I have to stand there and babysit to get what I want. read more

I really like the location, quality, and size of this particular Walmart Super Store. It really is a great place to shop for everything on anyone's list. I go here mostly for stationery materials like paper, pens, pencils and other things. They have super low prices and such a great selection. The only thing that bothered me was the scrape I got on my hand from running my hand across one of the freezer banisters. I was simply shopping around and naturally glided my hand across the banister thinking that I better take a good look at some frozen veggies in a butter sauce (that didn't go well). Maybe it was just me being clumsy and all. Though I'm pretty sure that if this happened to me it'll happen to others. So, others be aware and don't do what I did. It's obviously not the store's fault. But what the store can do is this: make sure there are no sharp corners in unassuming places, like the gap in between frozen food display freezers. read more

I had trouble getting service and got tired of waiting around so I left and spent my money at Safeway and might just keep doing that from now on. read more

On Thanksgiving I placed an order online. I was informed I would be able to pick it up that day. After three hours I went to the store to find out it was not going to be ready that day. I canceled the order online and found the items myself and purchase them. @Walmart took my money for the order online and as of three days later, have still not given it back to me. read more

Worst shopping experience of my life. My wife and I were navigating our way through the store and I noticed two men following us. I assume they are Loss Prevention officers, but why would they be following us? I dismissed it and continued shopping. Then we saw them again, and again, and AGAIN. They did not even attempt to "blend in". After being followed by them for the better part of an hour, one of them almost ran into me from around a corner. I asked him if I could help him and he acted like he didn't hear me. That annoyed me so I told him he was wasting his time following me, that I plan on purchasing everything in my cart. The man turns to me and he had murder in his eyes, seriously, and said that he wasn't following me, that he was following somebody else and that he was gonna kick me out of HIS store for "blowing up his spot". He looked like he wanted to punch me. My wife was scared, and she just wanted to leave. So we take our items to the register and as we're checking out a manager that went by the name Jett told us that she would not approve our transaction. WTF!?? I asked her what she meant by that. She wouldn't give a clear answer.. Apparently my money is no good at this store. So, like I said in the beginning, WORST SHOPPING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. It was a complete waste of my time, as well as my wife's time, and it was embarrassing. I asked to speak with her boss and she said that he wasn't available, that he was busy. I'm 8 months pregnant with sciatic pain, swelling, and was having a dull contraction after walking the store for over an hour. I've been into Tacoma Walmart 3 times in the last 1 1/2 months to buy over $100 of groceries each time with my own money. Each time I need to sit on the endcap as I wait for my turn and not one person has said anything to me until today. My groceries were loaded up on the belt and the benches away from the register were taken. A lady in a blue vest comes up to me and states her manager sent her over to to ask me to move to the "full" bench and walked away. I had to sit on the the ground at 8 months pregnant and having a Braxton hicks contraction while I waited! The cashier of my line was taking longer ringing up the person in front of me. . At this point a manager, Dani was working the cash registers never said anything! Found out it was the customer service manager Q. I approached Q who let me know she thought I would break it. I couldn't believe it!!!! I was fat shamed. Q also had the eye roll and the head movements to go with her excellent customer service skills. I left my items on the conveyer belt. Manager Dani gave me the assistant managers name and day she would be available. Let Q know I'll be contacting her manager and she was more than okay with this and asked me if I wanted her name. She was very confident leaving me to believe the store manager is probably a close friend or brushes off complaints. read more

This is for the Wal-Mart on South Union St. in Tacoma. First, whomever designed the parking lot, especially near the McDonald's and Starbuck's was on an acid trip. But the biggest weakness with this store is the check-out. Prepare yourself for a LONG wait. Really! I've never understood the point of installing 55 cash registers when they only intend keep 3 manned at any given time. Tonight I spent a lot of time picking out about $60 worth of new underwear, only to get to the check-out to find time (and the lines) standing still! AGAIN! I finally put all the merchandise back on the shelf and left in disgust. And Oh yeah, there were about 10 of their employees sitting around outside sucking on cigarettes when I left. In the future I will buy as much of my clothing on-line as possible. read more

Yesterday I had fabric cut by Tristan. mistake! Maybe the boys shouldn't cut fabric. He kept cutting the fabric a 1/4 - 1/2 inch short. It looked like he was trying to cheat. I know he didn't feel good but when I pointed it out ...he got all snippy instead of using his good customer service skills?!! again maybe the boys should not be cutting fabric ever. I can't imagine if a quilter was there ...she would've cut his head off and demanded the manager come and cut the fabric. A manager did walked by and asked me how I was doing and I didn't answer and I didn't smile .... but that apparently wasn't a good enough indication ...of how bad Tristan was doing and the manager kept on walking. But thank God for the other fabric gal ...she came along and could see that Tristan was struggling. So I asked her to take over and she Was very kind about it. Of course Tristan stormed off in a huff. He doesn't know how to cut fabric and you can often see this when you look at the fabric on the shelf and see how badly it's lined up or choppy. Also Please explain to Tristan that yes when you're cutting fleece and there's a line on both sides you don't cut both sides of the fabric together... but SEPARATELY! so that you follow the line and don't go wonky wonky off the line And end up with fabric that is several different sizes at each end. Walmart will make more money because they're cutting will be awesome and correct. I have never had a female at Walmart make a bad cut. This is actually the first time I had a guy cut for me and do such a bad job. I am sure everybody loves Tristan but you got to make sure he's trained.
