We went for late lunch around 2pm and the service was super slow. I ordered the California Bowl with cod and my fiancée ordered the short rib bowl. It took almost 45 minutes for our food to come out and while there were a few people there, none of them had food orders. My bowl was okay. My fiancée's was horrendous. The short rib was a soupy mess and had no flavor. The bowl also came with carrots and celery, but they were raw and confusing with the short rib mush. I also ordered the purple haze smoothie and it was flavorless. I found it impressive how someone could make fruit taste like nothing. Overall, I'd say skip this place. read more

Come here often, always great service, food, and drinks. Also order for takeout occasionally. It's clear that the ingredients are carefully chosen, usually the salads are a good indicator to me of a restaurant's ingredient quality. The chopped salad (I add chicken) is consistently nice quality ingredients prepped with care. Never had a bad meal or experience here in years. My boyfriend and I went to captain and walrus once and we never went again. The food and drinks were really good but there was a large piece of ceramic in my food and I shared this with the waiter and he said "next time you come your first round of drinks are on me" instead of addressing the issue. After checking this place out about 9 months ago, we've come back many times. We affectionately refer to it as Cheers Southcoast, as It has become one of our favorite spots for a bunch of reasons: It's a cool space with a cozy, homey vibe. You can choose from tables, high-tops, or the bar (our favorite). If you're lucky, Gary will be slinging drinks and (when it's not too busy) telling stories. He makes a mean martini. The food is fantastic. To be honest, I order the same thing every time - the California Bowl with salmon. Each time, I say I'm going to order something new, but then I can't resist. But I always taste what my husband gets, and he's never been disappointed - and everyone we talk to raves about their meals. Everything is fresh and never overcooked. Some nights there's live music, which is always fun, but it's never too loud for good conversation. In the summer, there are tables set up outside and that's where the music is. Decided to stop in for lunch as I thoroughly enjoy French style cuisine. Entry to the restaurant was somewhat puzzling. It's inside of a mall styled building with a bunch of boutiques. The setup inside the restaurant was also confusing and appeared unorganized and messy. Only two tables we occupied on a Saturday afternoon and many of the tables were dirty. We couldn't figure out if we were supposed to order at the counter or if we were going to be waited on. My husband started off the Mimosa which was exceptionally tasty with grand marnier and fresh squeezed orange juice, for entrees, we ordered the port wine braised beef and the croquette madame. The waffle was blah but the braised beef was delicious. I enjoyed the croquette madame but the egg was over poached. Our bill totaled $40. I would probably go back for some drinks as the menu appeared to have many interesting French wines. read more

I had dinner at this restaurant last night. I arrived at 5:30 and the bar seats were all occupied. The place is dark inside but cute. I had a French Martini that was dynamite! I have also had the Lemon Drop Martini in the past which was also yummy. I went with the California bowl with blackened chicken and it was delicious! The ingredients were super fresh and dressing was delicious. Service was good! I had to ask for water but the server brought me a bottle which was smart. Dinner was $47 with tip. Waitress brought the burrito but my husband had to remind her about the soup. Unfortunately the lentil soup contained meat - my husband had assumed it was vegetarian. The waitress brought him the vegetarian soup which he liked. His burrito was very bland, but he loved the French fries. I had a 1/2 rack of ribs, which was pretty good. I also loved the fries, but the cole slaw was extremely bland - definitely needs more dressing and seasoning. We split a raspberry almond shortbread tart for dessert - very rich & delicious - would have been even better if it had been served room temperature instead of cold. Opened recently in Mattapoisett, Walrus is a great place for a casual meal. The setup is a bit confusing, there are tables, a counter to order from in the middle and a bar off to the back. Still not sure if your supposed to seat yourself or go to the counter to be seated. The food was on point. We started with a delicious eggplant bruschetta which was one of the tastiest things I've had in awhile. I had Turkey club which was tasty, and which was made with legit fresh turkey (nothing processed so it passed the Seinfeld test. Hubs had a New England Reuben which was tasty but a bit too over sauced for his liking. We split on the sweet potato fries; I liked them and they were obviously fresh made, they were not his favorite. Beer menu was robust, wine menu was lacking. Service was exceptional and ambiance was quite cozy. We will certainly be back and it's definitely worth checking out. Sorry no pictures, I never think to do that until after everything is eaten. First, I'd like to address the fact that this would be a 5 star review if it were not for their awful hours. Walrus and Captain had some of the wackiest hours I have seen. I'm writing this after wanting a nice burger for dinner and going to find out they are closed at 5:00PM on a Sunday night?!!?!?!!!?!??!!? AND THEN closed on Monday again!?!?!?!?! Unbelievable. Other than the awful hours, this place never fails to deliver great food. The açaí bowls are 10x better than Java Shack and the burgers are cooked to PERFECTION. Highly recommend! read more

We went here a few weeks ago for breakfast. This is kind of an oddly set up restaurant; wasn't sure where to sit or if they had table service as this was our first time. After we got settled in, we ordered our food. Took a little while but was worth it, especially the cappuccino I had! This restaurant also serves a lot of "trendy" types of things such as açaí bowls and such (forgive me, but I'm over 50 years old!).
