I had a very disappointing experience with Walser's Gun Shop. I ordered ammunition from out of state (Kentucky), where no sales tax was charged, and had it shipped to Walser's for pickup. Upon arrival, I was hit with a laundry list of unexpected and questionable fees: 1. 10% Sales Tax - Understandable since I'm in California. 2. 11% Excise Tax - This is absolutely not supposed to be charged directly to the customer. Excise tax is a federal tax paid by the manufacturer or importer and is already built into the price of ammunition. Charging me this separately is either a mistake or outright dishonest. 3. $15 Transfer Fee - Understandable. 4. $1 DOJ Ammunition Fee - This fee is legitimate. When I asked why I was being charged excise tax, I got an explanation that didn't make sense. It seems like Walser's is either unaware of how excise tax works or deliberately overcharging their customers. I will be filing a formal complaint with both the ATF and the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) to address this issue. Charging customers improperly like this is unacceptable. This experience felt like a blatant money grab, and I won't be coming back. If you value transparency and fair treatment, I'd recommend going elsewhere. Save yourself the frustration. read more

For those of us who remember Walser's at their original two locations on Hawthorne Boulevard, and their next location in Torrance, we know that they have always been a great place to get art supplies. As time moved on, they also became a great place to get your printing and color printing needs fulfilled. Now, enter their next incarnation where they have added a whole new variety to what they have to offer. Walser's has become a truly unique store. There is no other way than to fondly describe this store as artistically bizarre. Not only do they still have a large selection of art supplies but they now also offer guns, ammo, and tons of vintage electronics that may or may not work. Sold As-Is. Shopping here has truly become an explorative experience. This new location is a bit hard to find, so I suggest setting your GPS. That is not to say that It is impossible to find but be prepared to look around a little bit in this large industrial complex before you come across the location. Once you find it, however, you can easily find it again and I suggest that you do because it is always a great place to get your art supplies, your weapon needs, and/or something that you never even knew that you wanted from times gone past. read more

Always good to support local businesses! They answer the phone quickly and give stock information over the phone so you don't waste a trip. They also don't have insane markups. Smaller stores don't get as much leverage with suppliers so I think the prices are pretty fair. Was going to give 4 stars, but ammo shortages and coronaviruses are not their fault. 5 stars it is then, for good service and fair pricing. Due to Covid they only allow one person in the store at a time. Totally fine by me, plus I appreciate that they also wipe down all the counter surfaces in between customers. You have to add your name to a list and then wait in your car to be called. You will get yelled at if you poke your head in early to check... Oops. The downside is that it takes a long time if you're behind someone doing paperwork and you just want to get some ammo. Stock fluctuates very quickly--brands and calibers vary daily. Service is efficient and friendly. I only purchased items off their shelf but I believe they also do transfers. 2 box limit per item sucks but that's just life these days. Luckily it's per item, not caliber. I got a couple boxes of range ammo, but could have also picked up some defense rounds that day, if needed. read more

I was looking for a gun dealer and gun smith and came across Walser's. Jack, the owner, is really polite and professional. He doesn't push you on firearms he prefers, but will provide you a honest opinion. Thankfully, we share the same interests in particular brands. Jack offers a wide variety of firearms and knives to fit in basically any budget. Some items are not in stock or available yet, but he can order it for you. The shop does get quite busy, but most importantly be respectful of the other businesses in the complex. Try not to park directly in front of their businesses, allow their customers to park there. read more

My experience today has convinced me that this small family owned business deserves my life long patronage. The DROS period was over and I came to pickup my firearm yesterday. When I arrived a staff member informed me that one of the owners, the one that handles the firearms side of the business was transported to the hospital for an emergency. I was politely asked to consider returning the next day (today) to pick up the firearm. The details of the situation are not my business to mention, but as a medical professional, I can verify it was something very serious, something no one would want to see anyone they care about go through. I'd even say that had I been in a similar situation, I'd likely temporarily close the family business to process the event and be there for the hospitalized individual. Walser's decided to stay open, serving their community, and providing employment for their employees. Again, this is a very small family business. When I showed up today, I was informed the part owner was still in the hospital, and they would do their best to transfer the firearm, though they couldn't guarantee it would happen today. At 9:30am when they opened, they contacted the owner who was still in his hospital bed miles away. He took the call and instructed his team on how to properly perform the transfer. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. I am blown away at the professionalism and their dedication to customers at Walser's. In my humble opinion, this is a semi-heroic selfless act on the part of the individual and company. I've purchased firearms at gun shows, Turner's, and other vendors, but have never experienced anything like this. p.s. There is a negative review in this feed that claims the elderly caucasian woman who is one of the owner's, is either bigoted or racist. I'll just say that I am of mixed ethnicities, and my wife is a minority who has been on the receiving end of racism multiple times in the past. We've been to Walser's multiple times and have never once got the impression of being discriminated against. It's also worth noting that some of the staff are not caucasian. read more

Bought my first gun here and everyone there was nothing short of providing excellent service, I bought a Glock 19 and jack worked with me every step of the way and even convinced me to buy ammo on the spot since he had it in stock saying it goes very quickly (obviously thought it was a sales tactic) so I bought it anyways to be safe and I go in a week later and everything in 9mm was gone. I came in here for the first time today to buy a bunch of 9mm ammo. Not only did they have the 124 grain 9mm I wanted, but they had enough for the 500 I needed to buy and at a very good price when compared to other shops in the SouthBay area. Not only will this bring me back but the service from both the woman initially helping me as well as Mr. Walser himself was phenomenal. They both made me feel very comfortable shopping with them, did not keep me waiting, and when I asked Mr. Walser about possibly getting a Zastava rifle they don't have on their site he assured me that if their supplier did not have what I wanted in stock he could go ahead and find/order it for me. I will definitely be back to buy that rifle as well as for my ammo needs just from how nice they were and how affordable everything was. I highly recommend checking this place out! read more

I stumbled upon this place online and was very intrigued when I read that they were an FFL and an Art Store. When I went in I was greeted by Mr. Walser, who was the one that helped me with purchasing some ammo. They have a small little area for all your firearm needs. Everything there was priced normally, especially during this time where every other store is price gouging. They have a limited supply at the moment, but I was told if I need something specific I should email and they would try their best to get it for me. There was no line, and it was quick and easy. I hesitate to even write this review because I don't want people to know about this spot since it might be my new place to go to, but after my experience I believe they deserve all the business in the world. On the side, I did explore their art supply selection and they do seem to have a good selection of things, but I'm not an expert on art, so I will let someone else comment on that. Lastly, I loved their back corner of electronic nick knacks. There was just a bunch of random stuff I enjoyed looking through. Oh, and I almost forgot their awesome area of food and snacks. This place was just awesome to come to. It's the definition of mom and pop shop, and I'm so happy to have stumbled across them. I'm about an hour away from them, but I will be more than happy to drive that distance to deal with them again. Again, Mr. & Ms. Walser were a joy to deal with and happy to have met them. read more

Really nice people! This is a family-owned, and family-run store art supply store that also sells tactical equipment. The Walser's live in Torrance and support local events and community efforts for the betterment of the city. Real community people. The prices are excellent! They DO charge a $50 transfer fee per firearm, but even with that their prices are competitive with, and often better than those of other local dealers. THE BEST ammo prices in Southbay that I've been able to find. Big-5 used to be my spot for ammo, but not after I found Walser's. Big-name ammo like Winchester seems to be right in line with what Big-5 is doing, but they always have some other brands that cost less, and I haven't had any issues shooting any of it. As of this writing, their ammo-transfer fee is $10 per delivery box. So if all your ammo fits in one container, the charge is $10. Please support your local businesses! read more

I bought a stock gun from Walser's and was charged with the DOJ Dros fee ($31.19) and DOJ Transfer Fee ($50). My gun was not purchased from other stores nor transferred from other store to Walser's. It was purchased directly from Walser's store which was in stock at the time of purchase. Therefore, I shouldn't have been charged with above fees per my colleagues from gun club. Upon reviewed of the receipt at home, I happened to notice the charges and contacted Jack to dispute the overcharge. Jack simply stated that it was their policy. Jack, the owner didn't explain any of the above mentioned charges prior to purchasing my gun. I am unhappy with how Walser's is overcharging their customer and Jack's response was very unprofessional. I regret referring two of my friends as all three of us were charged with above fees. read more

I was shopping here for some art supplies for a sibling, since they are taking color theory. I was able to find some nice Liquidtex Professional paints and some shorthand filbert brushes. I got three brushes. My partner was also shopping for ceramic supplies and found some new supplies they could use for glazing. They might need more options for ceramics, but I think the pandemic may have affected the items In stock. It was still worthwhile. I had a fun experience browsing. The shop is also a gun store, but if you are not interested in that you can walk straight to the art supplies or electronics. I was really surprised to find some old Macs there. I was excited that I found an oscilloscope in stock as well, coming from an electrical engineering background. The vintage tech was nice, especially if you are a collector. The woman was very nice at checkout. I would recommend browsing and I will definitely take a gander again. read more

Great art supplies. Very novel and unique items that I can't find anywhere but this store. However, this store has quite a race issue. I've endured it for far too long hoping my repeated visit and purchase would someday resolve this store owners lingering ignorance. I visit and purchase from this store twice a week at minimum. I've brought my children in the store and bought art supplies with them as well. However, every time I'm walking the aisle selecting items for purchase the store owner, an elderly Caucasian woman, follows me around the store like I'm not in there every week buying tons of art supplies. She's even thrown cautionary tales and very useless and ignorant insinuations my way. Advising me that people come to her store to steal all the time. I've had to remind her that I am not, "people" and therefore cannot speak for them. I'm an individual and regular patron of your art store who does not steal and request to be seen as such. She still nervously follows me the length of every aisle in the store. A bit of Karma to dress the wounds. Last I visited the lady came downstairs to ask if I'd been helped. I advised her that I had been helped and she resumed her regular activity nervously following me throughout the store as I walked the aisles selecting paints and pencils. I paused for a moment to consider Gumbacher and walnut oil, the lady breathing down my neck of course. However, as I looked up I peered down the aisle in a dimly lit area of the store I could see a younger Caucasian girl calmly but rapidly stuffing art supply into her backpack. I reckon quite a bit of merchandise (oil paint, paintbrushes, palette knives a couple of items I was able to decipher)all stolen by this person who obviously wasn't one of the, "people who steal" this elderly Caucasian woman was referring to. I thought to alert her to the incident but decided against it. This is the danger and fair payment for putting a face on crime. The others that don't fit your narrowed and ignorant criminal profile description are allowed to commit them without surveillance or issue. Your business suffers as a result. Do better Walser's. ****UPDATE 12/4/18**** Made my weekly visit to Walser's yesterday first time I was not followed down the aisle. Much better Walsers. The owner recognized my face and actually said, "you're in here all the time". I said, "Yes, I am". Resultantly I was not followed. I bought quite a few oil paints and some snacks as well. Very friendly staff who know exactly what to do and help customers through the process of transferring firearms/ammo. Best prices around too! They take one customer at a time to process transfers in order to maintain social distance, so show up 30+ mins before they close to get your turn. read more

First time millennial gun buyer here! FYI, Firearms Safety Certificate testing is not administered at this location. They will direct you to a pawn shop 5 minutes away to do it. Awesome mom and pop shop though. They are very warm and welcoming. They got guns in stock but ammo is obviously still at a shortage due to all the craziness. You definitely won't regret shopping here! Oh and they currently do not do ammo transfers because of the shortages. Shipments on various types of calibers vary on the daily. They moved to a new location near Crenshaw now. Walser's is a convenient art/craft store that offers an eclectic selection of merchandise. Most of the time, I am able to find what I am looking for (except for Gamblin paints :( aww). I've bought paint brushes, varnishes, palettes, etc from here, and they have all lasted for many years. I recently purchased a Silver Brush for varnishing purposes, and the price was cheaper than other places I've seen. Not always the case, though. Some items are overpriced. The clerk (James, I think) is really helpful and is happy to answer any questions you may have. I wish he would have more help, however. The times I've gone in he was alone, doing all the work. read more

I love this place! I wish I'd found it sooner! I found it when I bought a Glock on GunBroker for a big discount and was looking for someone local to have it shipped to and do the transfer. My search on Yelp revealed Walser's "Art and Ammo". I called and dealt with Jack, who was great! I visited the store when the pistol came in and Jack was pleasant and efficient.
