I was in the mood for salmon, so I decided to visit Walter's since I'd come here before with my dad for dinner before several years ago. I started off with the bowlanies which were a great appetizer. They were prepared perfectly, and the salmon tasted amazing. Everything was brought out timely. To drink, I had iced tea, and I didn't have to ask for refills as they were brought out when I was at less than half full. Not pictured is the dessert which was pumpkin cheesecake and vanilla ice cream. That was a great way to end the meal. I had lunch here with my family. We were hungry and Walter's Restaurant was across the street, seemed to be busy, which is usually a good sign, so we decided to give it try. The restaurant itself seems to be a combination of an old house and several building extensions put together. The décor reflects this and it is not fancy, but clean and they have a very large covered side street patio that is very inviting. We ordered the Eggs Benedict with Gravlax and a side of Afghan fries which were delicious, the Huevos Rancheros, which were okay, and I ordered the Ahi Tuna Tostadas, which were good, but needed a little sauce or seasoning. We also ordered red Sangrias and Bloody Marys. Overall the food and drinks were okay and so was the service. Nothing was great, but not bad either. If I return here I will try one of the Afghan dishes instead. read more

First visit. Nice décor with inside, courtyard, and covered patio dining areas available. Parking in downtown Claremont can be tough, but there's on street and a couple lots, but it's usually very busy. SERVICE: Started a little slow as I waited for someone to "notice" me and ask to help. However, once we were seated, Andrew took good care of us. Most of the staff was friendly and checked in when necessary. DRINK: They have a full bar and a Specialty Cocktail menu. My wife and mother-in-law tried the Red Raspberry Sangria ($13/ea), which is only available by the glass (no pitchers). I found the sangria to be very refreshing and delicious. I ordered a Bloody Mary ($11), which was disappointing. It tasted like mostly tomato juice, with hardly any spice and I could barely taste the vodka. FOOD: I ordered the Eggs Benedict with Gravlax ($21) and a side of Afghan fries. The eggs were overcooked, but the Hollandaise sauce was one of the best I've had, and the Afghan fries were interesting, in a good way. My wife had the Spicy Ahi Tuna Tostadas ($17), which were a little bland and should have been 3 to the order. We had to ask for the missing tostada. My mother-in-law tried the Huevos Rancheros ($13), which were okay. Nothing was bad, but a couple of our dishes could have used a little pinch of seasoning. They also have a Weekend Brunch with Unlimited Mimosas ($22) Sat./Sun. from 10am - 2pm. We arrived too late to take full advantage, but it seemed very popular with the surrounding tables. First time here again in several years and Walters did not disappoint! Six of us gathered for lunch here today. Staff moved tables around for us to sit together. Everyone was given silverware and bread w/butter and drink orders taken. Couple of us got breakfast. Two got salads. One got Lamb Kabob and I got Tandoori Lamb Burger with Mediterranean slaw and Sweet Potato Fries. All of the dishes came out together and everyone loved everything. My lamb burger was delicious as was the spicy slaw (a favorite of mine) The waiter continually checked if we needed anything else the whole time. Will definitely try to return again soon. read more

I love a Sunday brunch at Walter's! The staff is always friendly and attentive. Food is fantastic. I always sit in the room off from the bar and it is nice and cozy. The restaurant is also in a great location for some shopping or post-meal walking. I highly recommend the 2 eggs and chicken sausage plate with a side of sautéed spinach for added greens. This was my first time at Walter's, but my companion had been there before, tho' not often. We started with the combination platter, which we were not too impressed with. She also ordered the lamb stew, and I ordered the fettuccine with shrimp. The shrimp in my fettuccine were colossal, perfectly cooked, moist and succulent. The fettuccine's sauce could have had more body and flavor. This thin sauce pooled at the bottom of my bowl and had it not been that the server grated cheese into my bowl, my pasta would have been pretty bland. This restaurant has a curious layout. We entered through the front door, which opens into an elegant room with white table cloths and dark furniture. But, there are also more casual spaces adjoining down the hallway. Our server was hard working and congenial, but, young man, "women of a certain age" should never be addressed as "you guys." At least one door in the women's room did not close properly. This for a nicer establishment? Find some handy student and trade a meal for a little work! read more

Just come here it's a great place to hang out. They have good drinks large area good selection of beer and cocktails. The service is great they were able to really accommodate our party last minute. My family has been coming to Walters for as long as I can remember! Delicious food and friendly employees. It seemed only right to end this year with some take out and relax. The LAMB BURRITO is the only thing I get when I'm here. Full of juicy pieces of lamb and lots of cheese! A nice hearty meal any time of the day. Today they were out of the AFGHAN FRIES but if you're lucky enough to get them, they are the perfect addition. The GREEN CHUTNEY is super fresh and spicy. It's such a treat to buy a bottle! Came here for 2 milestone parties now and couldn't recommend Walter's enough! Both private parties were great; great food, accommodating staff, really cool patio and even dancing inside. The restaurant is huge and they're many private areas for events. They have more food and beverage options then other places around and are very helpful! they let us bring decorations, balloons, and center pieces early and also put cakes in the fridge for my party so they wouldn't melt. Great service. I hope to have another private party there soon! read more

First tine at Walter's and loving the vibe here on a Thursday evening. They have indoor and patio seating. It was a beautiful evening and so we decided to have a couple of drinks in their patio area. Staff is friendly. The place is clean and tables are well spaced out. They have nice little lounge areas with firepits. It's a nice place for a date night or a mellow night with friends. I had the green tea shot and the razberry lemondrop martini. Both drinks were good and perfect for the mood. The music playing and sitting next to a relaxing firepit. They also have a singer that cones on at 9:30. It adds a very nice touch and just what is needed after a long day in the office. I'll be back to try more. read more

Love Walters!! 1st time we went the waiter was so friendly he gave us a tour tour of the private rooms & my son in law booked a room for my daughters bday. It was amazing, they were really helpful that day and food was delicious! They even gave us all containers to take home the leftovers. Came here for a milestone birthday with family. Always a Funtime. The layout is a bit unorthodox. Several rooms and a long central patio. It was chilly rainy night so the spacer heaters were an absolute necessity. The food was good. The potatoes were cooked well not mushy and seasoned well. The yogurt chicken was GREAT. This was a catered private event so everything was buffet from a chafing dish so I can rate the other dishes. Service was pretty good. Plates were bussed when we were done, the staff was always availed to answer questions. Looking forward to a future visit to see what improves. read more

Let's just start with THE BREAD. A sweet lady walks around providing fresh baked bread from her basket. I have been dining at Walter's for 45 years. I love the feta-eggplant omelette drenched in their house made green chutney sauce. (Be sure to ask for it). Their coffee is delicious, too. Having walked past here a million times in the Claremont Village, my wife and I finally decided to try Walter's on Valentines Day this year. Arriving right at our reservation time, they sat us immediately not in the cool outdoor dining space, or in the vibe-y bar area, but in this hallway that was towards the back of the restaurant in the "House" area. We were the only ones sat in this space, and often when the waiters and waitresses would come out of the kitchen, they would be loudly talking - thinking there wasn't anyone sitting out there - very strange. Now that the only negative is out of the way, let's get onto the good parts. Service was quick - We both ordered a cocktail and it came right out. I had the fillet and it was exquisite. The potatos - were very fluffy and creamy. My wife had this shrimp dish that looked amazing. I've passed this place so many times and decided to finally check it out. I came in for an early dinner and sat in their covered patio area. It was heated and lovely for people watching as you see people walking by outside the restaurant. The service was prompt and friendly. I tried the white sangria, wedge salad, and mushroom fettuccine. Everything tasted a bit bland and lacking in oomph to me. Considering how busy the place is, I'm thinking maybe this place is for those with milder palates? I am interested in seeing if their other dishes are more flavorful and would return as their price points are more accessible than at other places. Parking can be hard at peak times such as dinner and weekends. There is a lot next door, but it does fill up quickly. Other than that, you have street parking. read more

I have tasted old fashioned's now in about 15 places and I have to say, the old fashioned here is top 3. I'm not a huge drinker and not bougie but I have enjoyed one at a Michelin star place in Hawaii and that one was also in my top 3. That should tell you what you need to know :) read more

Had to do it; I Yelped! And found this restaurant it was full of nostalgic tables and seating. It's Romantic in its own atmosphere of a past that has been revived by our younger generation. It was pleasant to see and eat in the patio area after 7PM, it was warm but it's surrounded by quiet fans and Candy Eye fireplaces for a delightful evening for everyone. The food was on the pricey side but well worth it. I enjoyed the Tadori Salmon "fat large portion" lol plate, and it was delicious, with exquisite seasoning and cooked to perfection! An older lady and could have been one of the family owners was quite rude and brazen. * Long wait times- 15 mins to get seated (not bad for a weekend) but took 15 mins before a waitress came to take our order and another 20 for the food to come. *  Poor food quality - Ordered shrimp angel hair pasta and afghan patty and eggs. Pasta had no flavor, very bland, we only ate half.  The afghan patty was ok, it's basically meatloaf and was also on the bland side. Very disappointing * Not worth the Price - Two meals ~$60+ Maybe we ordered the wrong items, I don't know. Perhaps we'll come back and try something else on the menu. Not sure how this establishment only has three stars. Every time I go I have a great experience! As usual, I will break down the meal by quality of service, drinks, and food. To begin, the host and servers were all very polite and responsive. They brought everything out in a timely manner and came to check several times throughout the meal. That said, there was a period of time during dinner where we needed some condiments and our server was nowhere to be found for over 15 minutes, an unacceptably long time. Thankfully another server was able to assist us. The cocktails we tried were good. We ordered the raspberry lemon drop and the eastern standard. Both very tasty, though not amazing. The eastern standard was definitely better. They did take a bit of time to make the drinks. We also ordered hot tea that came in the coolest teapot! As far as food, we sampled a range of offerings, from appetizers, entrees and desserts. To begin, we tried the Gandana Bolawnies and the Bruschetta. Both were fantastic! Highly recommend! Great flavor, well-prepared. Next, we ordered the Sabzee Chalau and the Lamb Shank. All I can say is wow. Wow. Absolutely delectable. If you are a fan of lamb, as I am, you will die over these. The meat was tender and flavourful, absolutely perfect. Two of my favorite lamb dishes I've had in the last couple years. Unfortunately the food quality fell off a bit with the desserts. We ordered the lemon mascarpone cake and some type of apple tart. The tart was decent but the cake was honestly very bad. It was so dry it seemed as if it had been sitting out for a few days and had hardened to the point of almost being crunchy. Terrible. So, pros: great appetizers, entrees and drinks. If only the food could hit the same bar as the ambience here. The inside/outside patio was the perfect setting for graduation day brunch and the big meeting of my fiancé and my parents for the first time. However, our food took a while to come out, they were out of lamb shank, the ingredients were poor quality and the food just didn't have anything special to it. My lamb burrito felt like an expensive excuse for a bean and cheese burrito, so while it's still yummy, not worth the prestige of being a lamb burrito just because it has 3 cubes of lamb in it not distributed through the burrito. Sweet potato fries were yummy though :) My fiancés Lamb "Burger" was anything but. If you call a hot dog bun with some spam looking lamb a burger then sure. And even though he enjoys spice, the spice really ruined the taste. The fries were good. But don't even get me started on the "coleslaw". Absolutely disgusting. It's cabbage dry rubbed with tandoori seasoning. I don't think that's edible, even to an animal. GROSS. I don't understand what the hype is about this place. It's a nice location with crappy food. However servers that have been there for a while like the bartender hold it down. I had an amazing appetizer, enjoyed my food, and was seated where I wanted to be. I will be back. Some friends and I were in town, exploring a local cemetery, and Walter's was our intended lunch venue. Setting aside a section for 16 people was apparently going to be a chore and a half because it was Sunday, as they were busy! We went, anyway, and, parking was...oof, packed. I roamed the streets around the restaurant, trying to find a parking space in a local shopping and eating area that was booming on a Sunday. I managed to slide into a 2-hour parking space that was roughly a half a block away. I managed to find the restaurant, which was crowded! Being Sunday, and lunchtime, that was no surprise. I managed to squeeze into a table with a group of my friends who made it there ahead of me. The menu was simple enough, and to the point. Entrees, description, price. I ended up ordering the Club Sandwich. Our food took a while to reach us, but, again, the place was packed to the gills, so, that was understandable. Oh, did I mention that the place was noisy as a result of all the people inside? Again, no surprise there. The place seemed popular, judging from how crowded it was. My sandwich arrived, neatly sliced, with toothpicks to keep the sections together. The bread was lightly toasted, which was unexpected, but not objectionable. Oh, and, it came with French fries. Plenty of French fries. The sandwich was good. I didn't want to get too filled up, which was why I went with a light entree. Looking back, I believe I should've gone with one of their burger entrees. If I'm in the neighborhood again, I'll need to try some more of their food to get a better impression of the place, which is why I gave three stars. read more

This review is for Walter's brunch! The location is cute. Lots of street parking since you are in Claremont. There is indoor and outdoor seating as well as a bar area. Restrooms are past the bar. Indoor has AC, but outdoor seating is best for a beautiful day, especially people watching. There is also an area center of the outdoor area which seems to be for private parties. Bottomless mimosas is $15 and you get different juice options. The staff are pretty good at coming over to get a refill. No complaints on waiting for drinks. In the span of 2.5 hours, we did about 6 drinks each. Menu: it was a mix of American brunch with some Mediterranean dishes. Very interesting combination but I'm not complaining Food: - combination platter: we tried this to check out the Mediterranean options since I love that cuisine. It was good to share with friends. Not really special but still a good option - eggs Benedict: unfortunately my eggs went all the way to hard :( the sauce was decent though - hashbrowns: they were very bland. I should've read the reviews first! We went in for Sunday lunch for my adult son's birthday. I was surprised the restaurant was so empty compared to the busy Claremont atmosphere. We tried to get in elsewhere, but there was a super long wait. The initial ambience of the restaurant looked very classy, though looking around at their outside and patio seating it seemed like it was put together haphazardly. The waitress said their specialty was the lamb so we ordered four different lamb dishes. Spinach lamb omelette, lamb burger, lamb burrito and lamb fajitas. The lamb itself was OK but the food was very dull and mediocre. I won't go into detail about each plate because the meal was just so uneventful. It's like the chef was sleepwalking when they created the dishes. I'm in the Claremont once a month for the Sundays farmers market and we will definitely skip this restaurant next time we're in town. read more

I'm not sure why someone recommended this place and why so many people where there. Maybe its the only place open on Sunday but that's not enough to make me go back. We ordered the "homemade hummas" it was bland and the veggies seemed leftover from some other dish. I've never seen such tiny pieces of carrot, broccoli and cauliflower. My friend's chicken kabob seemed fine but my BLT was not great, not even so so. The bread was more like TX toast which overpowered the two little pieces of bacon, slice of tomatoes and 2 romain leaves. Again, no flavor and the bread was crazy big. We asked for recommendation on dessert so we got the tiramisu. One bite and we knew it was enough. It had a strange texture and again no flavor. Base on the menu there is no identity to this place, is it Mediterranean, is it a sports bar, is it a diner, is it Mexican... Pick one and work on the recipes. Great location is all I can say that's nice. I don't usually give bad reviews but how do you mess up a BLT. read more

Our waitress Brooke was a 5 star phenomenon. She was so pleasant and took her time answering all our questions as this was our first time dining at Walter's. It was also our first at having Afghan cuisine. She made excellent recommendations. The bread was fresh, warm and very complimented by the salted butter. Next, we chose the wings for our appetizer. I was a bit hesitant because Brooke mentioned curry, which I'm not a fan of. Well, i was pleasantly surprised and my taste buds were exploding. The wings had a nice crisp and the flavor was like none I had before. I loved them. My meal was a burger with the most delicious Afghan fries.
