I don't frequent bars often because I hate most bar vibes, ridiculously pricy drinks, lighting that might as well be completely off, overly loud music, never really knowing where you should stand at the bar to get a bartender's attention, etc. (it's funny...the more I write, the more I feel like I'm aging myself.) But Walt's? Walt's is different. Walt's is one of those bars where you walk in and know that this is going to become one of those places where you're going to be returning to time and time again. With an entire wall of pin ball machines, vegan dogs, pretzels, a pretty good (not the best) selection of beer, great vintage vibe, friendly bartenders, and a spot to actually order your drinks, (as well as plenty of outdoor seating in front and in back of the bar, I can finally be "down to go to a bar!" again. I came on a Saturday evening, and there was plenty of street parking around the area so that's also another plus. The reviews don't lie, I hope this place stays around for a very long time! Hipster bar with about ten pinball machines at 50 cents a game. Quick and friendly service at the bar. Ironically or not, serves a lot of Hamm's beer (Look it up on google and top question is, "Does Hamm's beer still exist?" Answer is yes, brewed by Coors). Also has a good tap list and decent wines. Tables inside are 50s style, and look uncomfortable if you're planning on staying a while. There's a lot outdoor tables as well. Rules outside seem to be smoke 'em if you've got 'em. This is my favorite bar in the neighborhood. It's worth coming out of your way to chill here. Great patio, hot people, natural wine selection is always simple and good. Parked a couple of blocks down the street. Dodged a couple of screaming walkers (vagrants) on the way in. Ordered a cider beer and pretzel for the Mrs. The beer was interesting, the pretzel salty. Too salty. Grungy hipster vibes, dirty floors, sticky tables and dude playing pinball with his pit bull. I love pitbulls and thought about bringing my dog there. I put that in the because it's either a plus or minus depending on if you like dogs. The change machine ran out of quarters and shorted me 50 cents. Not a big deal. They have a couple of really cool pinball machines, suprised they weren't too busy. All and all it was fun if you're into that crowd. Can totally see a younger me having a couple of beers and playing pinball there. At my age I like my food gourmet, wine over beer, clean tables and chairs. Walt's is about as hipster as they come, but in the best way possible. The probability of you seeing someone there who has a mullet and/or looks like a character from a Wes Anderson movie is high. They have a great collection of vintage pinball machines, some that I've never seen elsewhere. They also have this rare "Ice Cold Beer" game from the 80s that is super addicting. They serve hot dogs and hot nuts. Decent beer selection. Fun chachkies abound. We watched the pinball tournament Wednesday at 8pm. So much fun! Great neighborhood watering hole vibe. read more

I don't mean to sound overdramatic when I say this, but Walt's is our absolute favorite spot in LA. The incredible staff, great beers and wines, and of course the pinball contributes to an overall outstanding community of fun-loving folks. The strange decor (why are the people on the mural naked? where did the decapitated mannequin heads come from?) paired with the awesome retro furniture touches transport you to a delectable little world where you're just enjoying a brewski while fighting for your life on a pinball machine. The basics: Walts only carries a limited menu of 7-8 local beers on tap, wines by the glass (you can buy a bottle too!), and ciders. Did I mention $4 Hamm's in the can? They also have hot dogs (with a vegan option), Zapp's potato chips, and hot German pretzels with cheese & mustard. You typically order with the line at the front, but later at night when the bar staff is fuller, you can also just order from a seat at the bar. Pinball tournaments come around Mondays (ladies only) and Wednesdays (all welcome). Patio seating snakes around the building but the back patio is a great spot with heaters for cooler nights. Here and there guest chefs will hold pop-ups, but Jamie's in the back will often make weekly special sandwiches for purchase at the bar. Also - DOG FRIENDLY! So I've been wanting to check out this spot for awhile now. I'm constantly passing it whenever I'm running errands and the signs are very enticing. We finally made some time to drop in and the atmosphere was kinda eh. The positives: it is small and intimate which makes it nice to hear conversations. They have both an inside and outside seating area. They have a few pinball machines. Decent choices for ciders and beers. Unfortunately I was expecting a more button mash type años to here with more food options and games that wasn't the case. For food they have popcorn and hot dogs, but if you are looking for something more you'll have to eat beforehand. read more

We walked in and I felt like I was in An American Werewolf in London, everyone turning their heads acting like I was an outsider and didn't belong. Bartenders weren't very nice, constantly ignoring us so they could talk to their regulars. No happy hour specials, expensive drinks, and a handful of pinball machines which were kind of cool but I was hoping for at least some sort of arcade game. Was told about this place from a friend. Will say that it was not that great compared to other bars in the area. The places is more for grungy hipsters as I see it. My fiancé, friend and I went to this place at around 5:30 on a Wednesday and there was an abundance of people trying to get in to order drinks. As someone else has stated they only have beer on draft. The hot dogs and pretzels are rather great, but aside from that not much else to it. Many people do bring their dogs into the bar or in the back patio which is fine I guess. I personally would say leave the dogs at home, they do not need to be surrounded by other individuals in a jam packed bar/ patio. Plus not all the dogs that people brought were actually friendly. There are a few arcade games to play, but good luck trying to play as many wait to get a chance to play. The wine selection was okay, nothing really special about it. There are some interesting flavors, but none that really spoke to me. Overall decent for a quick pint not really a place for big parties because the tables are on a first come first serve basis, but that is just my opinion. Walt's is everything I want in a watering hole: awesome natural wines, Zapp's potato chips (my fave), a cool (and not too rowdy) crowd, places to sit in and out of doors, and pinball! Free street parking and nice bathrooms too. The space itself is dimly lit with cool little touches and neon signs. They've also got old school mentos and peanut machines! Speaking of machines, there's an ATM and a quarter machine so you're fully equipped to go hard on some pinball. I'm in no way a pinball expert, but I played a few rounds and it is very fun. Walt's Bar has a diner-esque feel inside with multiple pinball machines to your right once you walk in. $0.25 games, bill breakers, glass holders on each end of every machine (very convenient), and a down to earth staff. I came in on a Friday night after dinner, and possibly spent $4 playing games for a couple of hours. It's no barcade, but it's a great pitstop. There's also plenty of street parking available. A plus! However, the location isn't close by other bars. So, don't plan on bar hopping by foot after ubering to this location. It's a small sized relaxed bar with a decent crowd for a Friday night. I wouldn't end my night with Walt's, but I'd start my night there and end it on York. It's a nice new addition in Eagle Rock! read more

Cool local spot. It has a lot of character! There were a ton of people outside when we went (5 pm on a Saturday) so was afraid it was going to be too crowded when we pulled up. Small on the inside but with the outside and inside space it was more than accommodating. Machine available that takes cash and gives quarters, which was nice for us play some pinball. Parking is all street parking, but we didn't have any issues. Recommend Walts for a drink to catch up with a friend, then maybe head down to Colorado Blvd to grab dinner. read more

This is a local bar that fits into the character that Eagle Rock has become: it's a quietly popular, niche, sells draft beers, and relies on street parking. If you're a fan of the classic pinball machine, they have about 8 of them (along with the Ice Cold Beer game). This is easily my favorite part of this place, as well as the reason I've come back. It's a fun place to chill out with some friends. Beers and pinball. What more do you need? ... Oh, right. They do have a small food menu. Nothing too fancy or spectacular. It wasn't busy the two times I've been there (a Thursday and a Friday). Though, I have driven by to see it get super packed on the weekends, as of late. Don't forget to let them know if your coins get stuck. They fixed it up and refunded us in no time. Overall, it's not the kind of place you use to impress your date. I was on the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council when Walt's liquor license came to the board for discussion. Many folks were concerned about kids over imbibing and people coming from out of the area and the parking issues that would result. At the time I thought those concerns over bearing and much to NIMBY, voting for the Council to recommend the license. Fast forward a few years, and Walt's is a little godsend to the Boulevard. A vibrant place for locals to walk to, hang out at, bring their dogs to, meet (and play against) their neighbors, and get to experience the art and skill surrounding these crazy (often vintage) pinball machines. Owner Jeff is so passionate about his hangout. The machines flow both thematically and aesthetically. Like the craft beer selection, they are rotated out on occasion to keep the space fresh - while also keeping regular players on their toes. Walt's is a neighborhood hangout, it's more than just a bar. It's a place you go where people know your name, teach you some skills and you just happen, to drink some good beer (Hamms be damned). Oh, and the German Pretzel is a pretty darn good way to sop up some of those extra pints knocked back on the weekly Wednesday tournament nights. Highly recommended. read more

Ok Walt. I'm a fan. Funky, old, cool decor. A nice range of pinball games that are also funky, old, and cool. I played some pinball games you only see bought out of barns on American Pickers. And at a quarter or two, that's cheap entertainment. The tap list was small but hit the mark for all beer lovers. A blonde, a kolsch, an IPA, a double, a porter, a high alcohol bomb, and a few others. I had a Common Sense IPA from LA. She had the blonde from Green Cheek. At $7, that's starting to become reasonably priced. She hit something else after, but I couldn't help myself and got a $4 tall, cold Hamm's. There are a few old Hamm's beer antiques inside, so it felt right. We also got a pretzel because pretzels. Theirs is crispy, warm, and delicious. Comes with mustard and piping hot nacho cheese. Hit the spot, and it will be part of our Walt's routine. Guy behind the bar was nice. Told us the history of the joint. Definitely a cool bar until everyone finds out about it and comes running. We'll have to get there when they open for the day to get our spot. read more

Had a great night the vibe was on point the bar tenders were extremely nice, but seemed kinda over worked. The whole night they were running back and forth. The only thing that ruined our night was the door guy. One of my girls was getting bother and we tried to call him over multiple times but he was just listening to music.
