Wow, this food was soooo good!! Picked this place based on other reviews as we were passing through the area and we were impressed! The guacamole was fresh and flavorful. The empanadas were piping hot and some of the best we've ever tasted. The bacon-wrapped shrimp tacos were amazing. Very filling and so delicious. Service was good and we enjoyed the vibe of this restaurant. Would definitely dine here again.

Was looking for some authentic Mexican food while visiting LA. Everything is sooooo good and full of flavor and authentic. They give you two kinds of salsa and chips complementary. Guac was so yummy and full of flavor. The shrimp mango passionfruit ceviche was out of this world amazing. We ordered wet burrito with asada and two sauces and it was great. The octopus tacos were so fresh and yummy. The Kesobirria taco was also super tender meat and just the right amount of consume and all. We also really enjoyed the steak plate, steak was so tender you could cut it with just fork. Service was impeccable and has a cute decor inside. Very causal and kid friendly as well.

Best guacamole that I have eaten anywhere! Excellent service and amazing drinks! As a vegetarian, they even customized the menu for us

I was attending an afternoon event in Glassell Park so I wanted to find a restaurant for lunch before the event. I chose Xecora which is on Colorado Boulevard in neighboring Eagle Rock situated in a small outdoor collection of shops. I was seated in the large dining area and right after I sent a group of mariachis started to perform for the diners. The interior has some large Mexican art with a beautiful bar. The menu had a number of very interesting items to choose from and I started with a cocktail, XURÁVE - Watermelon-lavender, tequila & lime. My drink was brought with hearty tortilla chips and a tasty and spicy salsa. Very friendly waitstaff took my order of two tacos: ENSENADA STYLE SECRETARIA - Bacon wrapped shrimp, stuffed with cheese, cabbage, pico dressing with a handmade tortilla. TACO AL PASTOR GOBERNADOR - Marinated pork, pineapple, onion, cilantro & avocado with a handmade tortilla. They were served on handmade corn tortillas and were both the largest filled tortillas I've ever been served. The Secretaria could barely be picked up and slightly folded with the large bacon wrapped shrimp generous and large. It was delicious and while I had to put it back on the plate after each bite, the tortilla held up and I finished this taco. However with my gobbling most of the chips & salsa with the refreshing coctail, I had to say no mas and take the Al Pastor taco home which I ate the dinner. I would have loved to try their ceviche & mole but that will have to wait for next time. I know your are thinking, one taco, what a lightweight. But this taco was a meal in itself. The Mariachi's completed a nice set that accompanied my meal beautiful. Gracias Xecora.

Found this hidden gem in a plaza in eagle rock. We were craving ceviche but didn't want to drive too far. We ordered three different kinds of ceviche and each one was AMAZING! Our servers Zaida and Sol recommended the best options. We loved how honest she was and understood our dilemma when we had walked in. We had recently had ceviche elsewhere that just didn't hit the spot, so we have been on a mission for a few days for some GOOD ceviche. Their recommendations did not disappoint, and their portions are HUGE! We also got 4 different tacos and the grilled pulpo. Again, ALL AMAZING! I'm a firm believer that if the salsa and sauces aren't good then the food isn't good. The salsa that comes out with the chips....if I could buy that in jars from them I could easily drink them.....Please please please, check them out and don't sleep on this spot! We will definitely be back!

Parking was tight, but we found a spot by the grace of God! We arrived and everyone in the restaurant spoke to us! People even came out the kitchen to say hello. We were told to sit where we wanted. A waiter immediately came and gave us menus. We ordered our drinks (we ordered Pineapple agua fresca - the fruit tasted like it was just cut and super fresh), and happy hour does not start until 3 p.m. btw. We ordered: 1. Secretaria - the food tasted amazing 2. Charbroiled Octopus - very exquisite to my taste buds and authentic 3. Kesabirria - warm, and tender. We also ordered chips and salsa and it was fresh, authentic Mexican food including the chips. We also ordered guacamole and it was fresh, and everything was chopped fresh and in squares. SO GOOD. Ricardo was amazing and he took great care of us. I would definitely return here again.

    Chilaquiles were excellent!

Great place! My friend and I met for Brunch there today. The waiter was so friendly and tended to us well. They had decent prices bfast/brunch specials. They served chips and salsa free, which I find is slowly going out of style. The food was delicious as well as the coffee. My friend ordered an espresso martini and the waiter made sure that she got the full drink and topped her off when it was low. I later spoke with the waiter and believe he was the owner. He was kind and the space was friendly colorful with TVs for games. I would definitely come back again!

These are the best shrimp tacos I've had in recent memory. I went back to confirm, and yes - they are. Their happy hour is great! You get two-for-one house margaritas, which is a great deal at $15. The margaritas are STRONG and so tasty. For both food and drinks, their happy hour (M-F from 3-7pm) is the way to go. Their guacamole is delicious and heavily discounted during happy hour, as are their delicious tacos. I'm OBSESSED with their shrimp gobernador tacos. I will always bring a lactaid for them. Outside of happy hour, they include rice and beans, which are very yummy. Their fajitas are excellent and are generous enough for multiple meals (or multiple hungry people to share). Their citrus salad is lovely, and I love the herby dressing that comes with it. Both times we went, the place is clean and bright with friendly service. Sports games are usually on. Good vibes all around. I'll definitely be back for happy hour!! Parking is a free lot in a plaza with other businesses.

We had a great girls night out at Xecora! Great HH deals (drinks, guac and tacos) and creative cocktails made for a fun night! Loved the signature Xecora drink and classic marg. Zaida and Sol were fantastic hosts!

The food was very good and great ambience. Really enjoyed the pozole , chicken burrito and shrimp plate . The dessert was delicious.

Recently we came for lunch on Friday and sat at the bar. Lots of selection for food and drinks. Our bartender/waitress was super attentive and nice. The utensil holder has seasonal specials so don't forget to take a look at those. My partner got the kimchi truffle smash burger w fries and I got the chicken wonton salad. They both came in a timely manner and were filling. My chicken was nice and tender and had a good amount of flavor. We also really liked their beer selection. People next to us ordered cocktails and they all looked divine. We'll definitely be coming back!

The bartenders definitely make well balanced, delicious concoctions. And then our food came: Mmm! So many vibrant flavors! Fresh, popping zings of ginger and garlic on the noods, delectable brisket with brightness from the red onion and cilantro wrapped in a comfort blanket of bao, break a sweet sweat from chilis on the spicy tofu noodles, green, bright, and lip smacking umami on the brussels, and bbq perfection on the meat. This spot opened about a year ago, and has a cool speakeasy style entrance at the Highland Park Bowl bowling alley. It is a small space, and I would highly recommend making a reservation on Resy. You have 90 minutes to drink and dine. I parked behind the bowling alley where there is a medium sized pay parking lot. Park in a space, remember your space number painted on the ground, and go to the pay station at the end of the lot. I found the parking machine to be extremely finicky as did other people. After ten minutes of failure, I ended up moving my car to another space, and then it worked. This has nothing to do with the Lucky Tiki, but FYI if you park there. We walked around to the front of the bowling alley, and checked in. Seating options include at the bar, tiki hut booths, and high top tables. The décor inside is a tiki lovers paradise. The room has a high ceiling with many tiki lamps, floats, puffer fish, tiki huts, thatch, ropes, barrels, netting, carvings, a hanging canoe, and a large tiki right in the middle of the space. In addition to the great décor, when you order certain drinks, special effects are triggered. There was also great tiki music playing all evening. We sat at the bar since we always enjoy talking to the bartenders. We actually ran into Skipper Christian in the parking lot on the way in, and he ended up being our main bartender, with Nick and Jo also working behind the bar. We put in a food order right away. The chicken potstickers ($12) came with five tasty bites, and the garlic teriyaki dipping sauce was good. We also had the giant pretzel ($16) which comes with mustard, beer cheese, and ranch sauces. This was excellent, and the perfect filling snack before a bunch of drinks. My first drink was the Siren's Song (Flor de Cana Eco rum, lemon juice, cassis, Oloroso sherry, apricot foam topper, $19). This drink is served in a great mermaid with skull mug and triggers special sound effects and bubbles fill the air. Those bubbles on top of the drink had a great light citrusy apricot flavor, probably the best flavored bubbles I've ever had. The drink itself was very good and balanced with some complexity. She wasn't sure what to order at first, and Christian asked her what flavors she liked. He ended up making a spin on a Tradewinds with some mango and pineapple to go along with the apricot and coconut. It was nicely balanced and not too sweet, even with all that fruit in there. My second drink was the Sun of Suns (Tierra de Acre mezcal, coconut cream, Giffard mango liqueur, pineapple juice, lime juice, $17). This was coconut and pineapple forward with some good smokiness in the background. Her second drink was the Whatever Floats Your Boat (Ford's gin, lemon juice, velvet falernum, orgeat, passion fruit syrup, guava soda, topped with hazelnut passion fruit foam, $19). It is served in a cool boat mug, and triggers thunder sound effects and lighted mechanical Polynesian tiki characters paddling a canoe over the bar. This was another good balanced drink. It was a little gin forward and the passion fruit popped out, maybe from being both in the drink and the foam top. That creamy hazelnut passion fruit form on top is delicious. I'd happily have a glass of that on its own. We were still a little hungry so we ordered the Hawaiian pizza (marinara, diced pepperoni, red onion, pineapple chunks, hot capicola ham, $16). It was another good tasting, perfectly sized snack, and the crust was light and airy. We were already fifteen minutes over our time limit, but we got the green light to stay longer to order a third drink to share. We ordered the Tiki Diablo (Flor de Cana Eco rum, Worthy Park 109 rum, Alma Tepecha chile liqueur, orange juice, lime juice, mango syrup, guava soda, $24). This drink serves two people, is served in a cool volcano bowl with glowing red lava around it, and comes with a fire show. Unfortunately, right after it was served, the host came over and said we were over our time and had to leave shortly. Christian made up for it by giving us two tall pours to go enjoy in the bowling alley bar area which was fine. We were happy we got some extra time inside. The drink was also very good, balanced with a little complexity. We had a great time. There is so much great décor to look at. The drinks and food were very good, and some of the the drink presentations and special effects were the icing on the cake. All of the bartenders were very friendly and a lot of fun. We purchased up a few zombie glasses to take home as a souvenir. I'd definitely recommend visiting the Lucky Tiki in Highland Park!

We were told seating was first come, first served, so when a table opened up outside, our group of five sat down while part of our group went inside to order. Almost immediately, my friends were aggressively accused by a waitress of bringing outside alcohol, which was completely untrue. Shortly after ordering multiple drinks and several plates of food, another staff member came to our table and began yelling at us, threatening to kick us out for being "rude" to staff, even though we had done nothing but order our food and drinks. What made it even more uncomfortable was watching other guests openly smoking weed while staff said nothing, yet our group felt watched, accused, and singled out the entire time. As the only Latino group sitting outside, the experience left us feeling unwelcome, uncomfortable, and discriminated against. As a fellow restaurant owner, I understand hospitality and house policies, which is why this treatment was especially disappointing.
