Was looking for some authentic Mexican food while visiting LA. Everything is sooooo good and full of flavor and authentic. They give you two kinds of salsa and chips complementary. Guac was so yummy and full of flavor. The shrimp mango passionfruit ceviche was out of this world amazing. We ordered wet burrito with asada and two sauces and it was great. Found this hidden gem in a plaza in eagle rock. We were craving ceviche but didn't want to drive too far. We ordered three different kinds of ceviche and each one was AMAZING! We had recently had ceviche elsewhere that just didn't hit the spot, so we have been on a mission for a few days for some GOOD ceviche. I was attending an afternoon event in Glassell Park so I wanted to find a restaurant for lunch before the event. I chose Xecora which is on Colorado Boulevard in neighboring Eagle Rock situated in a small outdoor collection of shops. I was seated in the large dining area and right after I sent a group of mariachis started to perform for the diners. The interior has some large Mexican art with a beautiful bar. The menu had a number of very interesting items to choose from and I started with a cocktail, XURÁVE - Watermelon-lavender, tequila & lime. My drink was brought with hearty tortilla chips and a tasty and spicy salsa. Very friendly waitstaff took my order of two tacos: ENSENADA STYLE SECRETARIA - Bacon wrapped shrimp, stuffed with cheese, cabbage, pico dressing with a handmade tortilla. TACO AL PASTOR GOBERNADOR - Marinated pork, pineapple, onion, cilantro & avocado with a handmade tortilla. They were served on handmade corn tortillas and were both the largest filled tortillas I've ever been served. The Secretaria could barely be picked up and slightly folded with the large bacon wrapped shrimp generous and large. It was delicious and while I had to put it back on the plate after each bite, the tortilla held up and I finished this taco. However with my gobbling most of the chips & salsa with the refreshing coctail, I had to say no mas and take the Al Pastor taco home which I ate the dinner. I would have loved to try their ceviche & mole but that will have to wait for next time. I know your are thinking, one taco, what a lightweight. But this taco was a meal in itself. Parking was tight, but we found a spot by the grace of God! We arrived and everyone in the restaurant spoke to us! People even came out the kitchen to say hello. We were told to sit where we wanted. A waiter immediately came and gave us menus. My buddy and I drove around to three different locations before we found the World Cup match playing on a big screen, with multiple other televisions, screening the game! The atmosphere was perfect for catching the game. The tortilla chips were free, and the food was stellar. We got the small Lilicoi Ceviche and could not finish it. The portion was massive. Great place! My friend and I met for Brunch there today. The waiter was so friendly and tended to us well. They had decent prices bfast/brunch specials. They served chips and salsa free, which I find is slowly going out of style. The food was delicious as well as the coffee. These are the best shrimp tacos I've had in recent memory. I went back to confirm, and yes - they are. Their happy hour is great! You get two-for-one house margaritas, which is a great deal at $15. The margaritas are STRONG and so tasty. For both food and drinks, their happy hour (M-F from 3-7pm) is the way to go. Their guacamole is delicious and heavily discounted during happy hour, as are their delicious tacos. I'm OBSESSED with their shrimp gobernador tacos. I will always bring a lactaid for them. Outside of happy hour, they include rice and beans, which are very yummy. Their fajitas are excellent and are generous enough for multiple meals (or multiple hungry people to share). The food is incredible and the service top notch. I attened a large gathering with friends at Xecora last night. We were a party of about forty. I had the Secretaria tacos, my sister had the enchelada with salsa verde, friends had ceviche, zarandeado fish, and many other dishes to name. Food came out hot and the flavors made it hard to not overeat. We had fruit as appitiezers as well as their chips and homemade salsa. Our waitresses kicked butt serving us and my salute to the chefs who busted their humps to cook and prepare solid food. The overall atmosphere is great and the prices are quite resonable. I don't usually leave reviews like this, but I feel like I should share what happened after a recent meal at Xecora. I ended up developing meningitis shortly after eating there and I was hospitalized for four days. I believe the cause was the shrimp aguachile that they served. Just to be clear, I'm not writing this to attack the restaurant or its owners. I actually hesitated to post anything at all. But I think it's important for others to know about my experience, and for the restaurant to be aware in case there's anything they might want to look into with food handling or their suppliers. I went to Xecora for lunch on October 22 with a friend. We shared only two dishes--the shrimp aguachile and chips and salsa. The shrimp tasted a little off to me at the time, but I didn't think much of it. Later that same day, both of us started feeling sick. My symptoms got progressively worse until I finally went to Kaiser Sunset, where I ended up being admitted and diagnosed with viral meningitis. I was there for four days. My friend also got sick, though thankfully his symptoms were milder, and he didn't need to be hospitalized. I truly hope no one else has to go through anything like this. I'm sharing my experience in the hope that it's helpful. read more

The food was seasoned and presented well but (and here is the big but) but if you order a shrimp taco or fish ceviche - you will hardly get any seafood. The ceviche is cut very fine, as well as the shrimp In the shrimp taco. We asked the waiters why there was only one or two tiny shrimps in the taco and so little fish in the fish ceviche. The response wasn't - "oh let us correct that and bring you a little more shrimp or fish. " Rather, it was about how they prepare all the food measured in certain amounts. This upset us even more. I wanted to say that for $14-$15, customers deserve more than one tiny Shrimp and more than 4-5 strands of fish. What a way to pull a fast one on people wanting to really love the restaurant. The chips salsa is pretty tasty and has a kick to it too. Paired with my cucumber agua fresca I couldn't keep from dipping. The avocado came next. Looks like it's a little bit cause they bri g it with few chips in it but there was enough to cover my plate too. Wife got the wet chicken burrito which she said was good. I got the charbroiled octopus and let me tell you, it was delicious! Tender octopus with amazing flavor sitting on top of grilled vegetables (carrots, zucchini, grilled onions, mushrooms) and a side of mashed potatoes. Potatoes were a bit bland and has cheese but when you fill your fork with a little bit of everything that's in your plate, then smear it across the chipotle sauce on the plate, it is a great pairing. It's also the perfect serving. Not too much, not too little. Service is good too. They kept checking on us to make sure we were doing well and they even offered me extra sauce. The ambience is a vibe for sure. We went at 3pm but the music was bumping. Paired with dim lighting and a margarita bar it definitely looks like a place to get lit. Parking can be a pain since it's a small shopping center but where ever you park, however much you walk, it's worth it. This will be my new go to spot for octopus. See you there. read more
