I'm not sure if the air conditioning stopped working or what but it was HOT inside the restaurant. Our server was very nice and attentive. Still a bright shining 5 star restaurant! This time around had the petite filet medallion and lobster tail aka petite surf and turf. The Cinnabon butter and crab meat on the filet was so delicious. Had the king crab legs and shrimp cocktail to start. The cocktail sauce had a good kick of horseradish. The bread had a hint of salt and was so good fresh and hot. Tried the hot slaw and the bacon added the porky goodness to the vinegary warm broth slathering the fresh cut cabbage. The lobster tail was grilled perfectly with a hint of saltiness on the top. It's been a very long time since I've been to Walt's. In fact the last time I was there I believe Billy was still alive. The service and food was excellent. Just as I remembered. Nothing beats their signature ribs and BBQ Sauce. Add the salted rye and its a feast for for a king in the Queen City area. I'll definitely go back when I'm in town again. I went with my family to celebrate a graduation. We had reserved a private room that seats up to 10. The spot was perfect and private. The service was outstanding. The food for me, was a miss as I ordered the chicken breast with spinach cream and asparagus. The chicken was overcooked almost to the point of rubber. At $30 I should have sent the chicken back, but decided not to. My wife had a filet and it was slightly overdone, but good. Two of us had the strip and both were excellent. All sides and salads were very good except for the cornbread which was dry and crumbly. I'll go back but order beef instead. read more

I planned a 40th birthday celebration for a friend coming in from Tampa. We had a party of 15 including several of his friends and family from Florida. Jennifer, who is charge of the special events was spectacular! She was in communication with me for months finalizing the menu. And, she stopped by to ensure everything was perfect. This spot is a true local gem. It came highly recommended and rightfully so! The always packed parking lot is a dead giveaway of how fabulous this place is. We were able to get a high-top table in the bar area, otherwise there was a forty-five min wait and this was a Thursday! Reservations are accepted and recommended (by me). The atmosphere is charming and has live music every night. The servers are prompt, courteous, attentive and knowledgeable. A special shoutout to our server Kyndra who did a fabulous job! Ate here last nite for the first time in years. Party of 4 at 5PM. We started with a shared generous serving of fried green tomatoes with a remoulade-type sauce and a shrimp cocktail. I had a bowl of their filet mignon chili and substituted hot slaw for my entree salad. All 4 were terrific. Wife had the ribs and shrimp combo. I had the Cauthen entree (2 4-oz filets with toppings) and loved it. Plus baked potato and a 2 serving side of green beans, which tasted homemade. That was a lot of food and I had to take part of my entree, potato and green beans home. Also got NY cheesecake to go. Ambiance was good (racetrack motif.) Service was friendly and attentive. Wife didn't think the ribs were as good as Montgomery Inn and that's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. About 4 1/2 maybe. I would like to return sometime and try some different menu options. read more

I have seen many really good reviews of this place, but I also see several poor ones....unfortunately, I have to agree with the latter. Food is bland and completely overpriced for what you receive. My "blackened scallops weren't, just browned a bit with some generic spices, and the whole order consisted of....wait for it.......three whole scallops, very underwhelming at $39 !!! I guess the included salad was really expensive....oh wait, the wonderful house dressing on the salad, I believe, was nothing more than out - of- the- bottle Catalina. My wife and son had the "legendary" ribs, and both said there are many good restaurants in the area that actually know how to prepare ribs, but not Walt's. Service was fairly attentive, ambiance was....horsey. Overall, very poor value for the dollar spent here. Not worth the drive. read more

We heard a lot of rave about walts hitching post so one night we gave it a try. They were busy and we were still seated rather quickly. Service was good for the amount of people there. I had the ribs and filet and my wife had the bone in ribeye. Every meal is served with a salted rye which is absolutely phenomenal, it comes hot, fresh, toasted, salted, and buttered. Both steaks were pretty good however the ribs were not. The ribs were tough and room temperature. I'm not sure if we got a bad batch or if it sat in the window awhile. They were so busy I didn't even bother to say anything. The place offers a unique old style atmosphere which is cozy. We will be back I'm sure to try different things but one of those things will not be the ribs again. read more

Generally excellent restaurant but for one mistake they consistently make: food is often delivered to the table before the silverware is brought. Nothing worse than having a beautiful piping hot steak sitting in front of you without having a steak knife and fork. This has happened to us on 3 occasions, and it really diminishes the quality of the experience. Another service lapse is the frequent failure to refill water glasses. Correct these deficiencies and Walt's would easily earn 5 stars. Having said all this, we still highly recommend the restaurant. The food is great, properly prepared and very tasty. The bread and accompanying salads are wonderful. Meat is always cooked to perfection. The service overall is good - friendly, knowledgeable, competent. Comfortable seating, tolerable noise level, interesting decor. Good bar, although wine by the glass selections are very limited. Valet parking. Reservations highly recommended. read more

Here's the problem- despite good service and bread that's very tasty- this place is way over hyped. The salad was bland and boring. The ONLY vegetarian option is a joke- it's $24 for plain pasta with a few cloves of garlic and spinach. Everyone's steaks were overcooked except for one person who's was bloody as hell. That makes no sense to anyone who has ever cooked for multiple people. Ambiance was very nice. Nice waitresses. I've heard many great things about Walt's and they certainly lived up to the hype! I ordered the 6oz filet with mushrooms and onions and mashed potatoes. My table also ordered the cowboy cookie for dessert to split. Everything was delicious! Perhaps one of the best parts was the complimentary bread which was pre toasted with butter and oh so good!! I definitely plan on returning. One thing worth noting is the unique parking lot. The whole front lot is valet only. In my opinion, you do not need to valet because all parking options are fairly close to the main entrance. The whole lot located behind the building is self park. read more

Everything my wife and I had tonight was perfectly prepared. Details matter to me when you are going to spend more than a normal night out. Walt's nails it every single time. Great service, excellent food. Had dinner there with my father on my 16th birthday and now I am 72 years old and had dinner there a couple nights ago. Servers are always excellent. By they way, the Fried Green Tomato and Chicken Liver appetizer is absolutely awesome. I should also add that, prior to my retirement last year I held my company Christmas dinner party at Walt's in a small private room off the main dining room. NYK classic. I had no idea until I started dating my now wife, as her family is a big Walt's family. This place took time to grow on me, but after years of having it for special occasions I have to say, it beats most other high end steak houses in the region. The BBQ sauce is really good, my father-in-law buys it by the jar to dip stuff in. Their bread is life-changing. Soaked in butter with salt on top it's this perfect savory side item to whatever you get. I'm also a big fan of their mashed potatoes. Exactly what I want out of a mashed potato and fresh every time I get them. The ribs and steak are as good as you would expect. I'm not much of a meat person but I'll take a bite every time ;-) also we try their salmon this time and that was very good. It was sitting on top of a bed of horseradish mashed potatoes and topped with a really good glaze. I will definitely continue eating at waltz anytime the opportunity arises. They've set up a large party tent out in the parking lot to make space for people during Covid so hopefully there will be space to have dinner there during the winter. read more

Went to dinner with a couple of coworkers and it was my first time here. The outside of the place is a bit misleading as it may look rather basic. However, the inside of this place was very nice! We went on a Saturday night. Group of 13. We had a reservation and we were seated on time. For half the table, the food was served cold. I had ordered the Blackened scallops and risotto. I sent the plate back since the food was cold. Once reheated the scallops were great, however the risotto was still cold and undercooked. My husband ordered the special not realizing it was a $85 steak. It was chewy, but once he got to the middle it was excellent. For that price, all of it should have tasted excellent. Brussels sprouts were great. The bread is always wonderful , but it was extra toasty and slightly burnt. Service was sketchy, waitress asked my husband if he wanted a refill, she took his glass and she never did bring it back. We would have asked her about it, but never had the chance. We had a wonderful meal at Walt's Hitching Post as well as good service. The filets might not be as good as at Jeff Ruby's but they're almost as good and about half the price! It's a little loud in the restaurant depending on where you're seated but the food makes you forget if you were feeling annoyed by the noise. We'll go back for sure! read more

I thought the service was exquisite for this restaurant. Keep up the great work! Had live music on a weekend which was pleasant. Food was okay. Very southern which I'm sure is a fan favorite. It maybe isn't my favorite food type. But the appetizer of shrimp and dessert was so good !! I got ribs and chicken. Ribs were good. Chicken was moist but not my first choice. I'd come back for apps drinks and desserts any day - mainly because of the service - not for main meals. read more
