Marina restaurants are not known for being the best food, fastest service or having the most updated decor but this spot gives a solid lunch option as long as you're not in a hurry. Location: easy to get to with ample parking. Interior seemed new and maintained. Service: Waitress did decent job keeping our cups from getting empty but kitchen was slow and they were not very busy. Cost: Normal for My. Pleasant....so about $15 a head without "adult drinks". Food: Table had fried shrimp, burgers, salads and chicken fingers. No one had a food issue but nothing left much of an impression. Food options were very limited with only a one page (back and front) menu. The next "in-spot"! At least that's my prediction. Wando River Grill just opened maybe 2 or 3 days ago. Beautiful setting at the bridge on Highway 41. (New bridge is being built.) Food is tasty and reasonably priced, although they seem to be still doing a "soft opening". Friendly service. Great facilities. Play area (outside) for the kids. My first time here and absolutely the last. I was appalled at the attitude of the management. We came by boat, 4 of us. we ordered 3 salads with shrimp or salmon and a crab cake dish. When our salads came, I couldn't believe how minimal mine was for $20. My friends salad, same size, was absolutely abundant The shrimp portion, the expensive part, was fine. The lettuce was literally a half cup. I wish I took a picture. I said something to the waitress and she agreed and took it back to the kitchen. She came back out and said the manager told her that was an appropriate amount. I have been a waitress and a chef in restaurants up north before retiring here. I'm familiar with food and bev business. I told her to take it back. I didn't want it. She really felt awful. I left her a great tip. Also ran into a kitchen crew in the bathroom and she apologized and said the male manager there is awful. The staff I dealt with was amazing. They really felt bad and nobody seemed to like the management. My issue is, you would rather throw out a $20 salad, or feed it to,staff, than put an extra cup of lettuce on the plate. Great view! That's where the positive aspects of our recent visit ends. Service was ok. Not great, but at least she was working and we were thankful for that. I ordered the salad. Pretty good. Best thing we had at the table. My wife ordered the pizza. She said it tasted like a frozen Chef Boyardee. Her mother had the BLT, (which our waitress bragged on making herself). The bacon was so burnt ah had to eat an LT sandwich. The whole experience was bizarre. Our waitress would grab glasses with drink still in them but then ask it it was ok to take a plate with nothing on it. Then she brought the check when we hadn't even finished eating. (I guess no dessert). I saw a guy, covering for the outdoor bartender, (granted there were zero customers there) spit in the sink. I saw another food runner bring food from inside to the waitress that was hanging out with the outdoor bartenders and give it to her. The waitress then carried the food back inside the building to give to the customer. Seemed like a huge waste of time, not to mention carting that plate If food all over the place. We used to go there all the time because we kept our boat there but I just don't see any reason to go back. Seems like if they would just put a little effort into the food they could kill it. So, second time here and very disappointed. Breading is obviously the main course in their fish dishes. Asked multiple times to make sure there were no jalapeños in the fish taco sauce as my wife is deathly allergic. Never got an answer and it was brought on the plate along with severely overlooked ahi. Server obviously stepped outback to get high prior to bringing our food. My husband and I tried WRG for the first time yesterday, and we were so happy with our experience. First, they were taking every precaution they could to follow social distancing guidelines and keeping tables sanitized and clean. The views can't be beat, and the food was good. I ordered the chicken caesar wrap and my husband ordered fish and chips. My only complaint is that my wrap was not full, and I tore about half the wrap off since there wasn't a whole lot inside. However, everything else made up for it... especially the soft serve ice cream on-site. We will definitely be back, and I look forward to trying a burger next time. Really enjoyed this place. I attended a bridal brunch and the view was amazing. The shrimp was plump and fresh. The grits creamy and out of this world and the crab cake delish. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the service is not great. We had one server for a party of 25. We were at 3 tables and needed a server for each table. I will be back. read more

It's an amazing location. Great set-up there to. They have a lot of fun outside games. Dog friendly which is a plus in our area. Recently I've been disappointed with my meal. It clearly wasn't the chefs fault because it's not that it wasn't cooked well it was just a fishy tasting fish. But Management didn't charge us and did offer another meal. The other issue we encountered was being promised a table and then not getting it and having to wait. I told them that was completely unacceptable, and they needed to communicate better. I have been here a few times for fun afternoon cold, delicious Westbrook beers on tap. We have enjoyed the outside vibe, very family friendly. Trad behind the bar is welcoming and serves a great cocktail. He introduced me to the Westbrook IPAs and I'm hooked. This is not a gourmet restaurant but serves enough to satisfy your appetite, great to meet friends or take the kids in a scenic local casual vibe. Went to Wando River Grill on Sunday evening (04/09). There were tables occupied outside and inside but not overly busy. Our service was a terrible disappointment. Our waiter did not write anything down. We repeatedly went to the bar to refill waters. The food came out fast but one of our party never received her food. We never saw the waiter for another 20 minutes. We waited over 30+ minutes for final check. When the bills arrived everyone's was wrong and overcharged. The girl who didn't get her food was overcharged by $4 even after waiting 30+ minutes for it. The waiter argued with us over the bills and beers that were on our tab that we didn't order. The food was fine though. I had the ribeye sandwich and it came out hot. French fries were cold and mushy. We've tried here several times now and have just not had good luck. read more

They would not seat us outside with our toddlers even though all their outdoor tables were open except for a few. They said all the tables out there were reserved. They had at least 10 patio tables open. They assured us they were not short staffed, but they were reserved. Seems unlikely to me and just mismanagement. We left and found a much better restaurant with a better beer selection. Never going to try there again due to the service we received on 6/17/2021.The wait staff had no idea what they were doing. The views are great and the staff couldn't be nicer BUT the menu is not friendly to those with food allergies. There is almost nothing to choose from that is gluten free and everything is meat and cheese. If someone is gluten free or vegetarian this menu will be difficult to navigate. Went to Wando River Grill with a friend today for her Birthday. Ordered a Shrimp Taco for myself and my friend ordered a Chicken Taco. We had wine with our meal and when the tab came we closed it out and paid it, 68.00. I ordered Wings to Go and a side salad and we had two more glasses of wine. We asked for the bill and the Bartender (Female Brunette) charged us again for the original glasses of win and the two we ordered waiting for the take out, plus the cost of the togo Salad and Wings. I read a post a few weeks ago how Wando Grill changed - tonight we brought our guests from home there to enjoy the water and close restaurant to our home - we arrived at 7:15 and at 8:45 we still did not receive our dinner (burger/tacos). The server blamed the cooks - the manager blamed the server. Fact was no one had the professionalism to come talk to us - they avoided our question on what's going on with our order and never offered an apology or explanation. We left at 8:50pm with no dinner. We did have an appetizer that had no taste. I've tried this place three times - it never was good- but now NEVER EVER will I go to this restaurant again. My husband and I love this place. Have been coming for about a year now. Always good service, always good food. And what a view of the river, marina and sunset. Fried Green Tomatoes, salmon perfection, shrimp scampi tender and spicy. Short rib risotto with goat cheese, flounder bites, cheeseburgers. There is something for everyone. The setting here at The Wando Grill is just beautiful, right on the water, with covered seating outside. When you walk in the feeling is WOW! It's a beautiful venue & appears to have space for events. The bar is hip & trendy with big open windows to view the Wando. They had lots of staff yesterday when we decided to try it for lunch. I had the clam chowder which was lukewarm & a little thin but ok. Then I had the crab cake sandwich with fries. Looked great until I looked a little closer & found the bread to be moldy. Yes, moldy. So I decided to not make a scene & asked my waiter to return for another. Which he did. Bill time.. Did he comp my lunch or reduce it?! No!! Then I asked if he could at least take something off the price of the sandwich. He said he would have to ask the manager . Not good customer service my friends!! They finally took the price of the sandwich off. It really really put a dampener on my visit here because it's a much needed restaurant in this area & is beautiful. I swore I would never return to this place after being turned away multiple times due to private events. I was told it was under new management so we gave it another try. We arrived on a Friday even around 6pm with two car loads of people only to be turned away AGAIN due to a private Christmas party. Is this a semi-private club or a restaurant? The best part about this place is the location. Unfortunately, unless you want BBQ there is nothing else nearby when they decide they don't feel like being open for business. Ok so we had a great experience there tonight. Drove straight back from Beaufort area to drop off kids with Nana and didn't get there until right at 8. Very busy but got a seat right away. Our waitress Abby was awesome! Drink orders came back fast and the Conch fritter app came even quicker, less than 5 minutes. Very tasty but only complaint was they needed more conch, less filler. Decent selection of beer and about 10 or so on tap. Yummy cocktails!! The hubs ordered a burger with bacon & blue cheese. Great angus beef and nice brioche bun. He upgraded the side to the Smoked Gouda mac'n'cheese. Y'all! So good!!!! I ordered the blackened shrimp tacos with the Cajun fries. A little messy but most tacos are. Wish the blackened shrimp had a bit more blackened seasoning but very good. There were two tacos and each had 4 large shrimp. I was full and had enough fries leftover to box up with my hubby's leftover burger half. Cocktails were really good but went down fast as the glasses aren't very big, low ball or skinny hi ball glasses. He had the Dark and Stormier and I had the Lands End Breeze. Several beers were tempting too. Another day for sure. They had some type of Southern Pecan Ale that I want to try another time... And yes the location and grounds are amazing! Kid friendly. Can't wait to go via boat one afternoon for lunch or drinks. Oh! And they had the COOLEST overhead bar light/fan combos over the length of the bar. Those may have been the coolest feature inside (pun intended)! Will definitely go back but I hope Abby is our server again, she was really very attentive and easy to talk to. Excited to finally eat here after waiting for some time for it to open. First the positives: The view is terrific and the choice of in door and out door seating is good; there was plenty of boat parking for those like us who come by water; the food overall was really excellent - the she crab soup may be the best we've ever had, the shrimp tacos and grilled shrimp entree were both excellent; and lastly, the service and all staff seemed very friendly. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars at this point were some "new restaurant bugs" they seem to be working out: Server brought soup appetizer out at same time as meal; taco shrimp was hot but shell was cold; the Gouda Mac and cheese which could have been good was served at room temperature; they need to spray outside for bugs or get a mosquito magnet or have repellant candles (several tables moved inside, we just brought our own bug spray). Overall, it was a terrific experience and we will go back often since it's close and fairly unique for the area. read more

I doubt that I'll be back unless it's just to meet a friend for cocktails. By the way, I think that drinks are kinda pricey given the setting and what I ordered. Parking lot is a disaster. There is so much potential here! It's gone through a few ownership changes in the last couple of years, and the experience we had recently was definitely improved! You absolutely can't beat the view and the outdoor seating. There is also live music fairly regularly. The service was very good. Our server was attentive, personable, and knowledgeable. Someone else came around to check on us a few times to make sure we had everything we needed. That said, my three-star rating is mostly for the menu. Personally, I wish there were a few more healthy options (grilled shrimp platter instead of just fried, maybe some peel-and-eats for an app, a couple more salads to choose from...). I got the grilled fish tacos and they were average. Other guests really enjoyed their food--the grouper bites, fried chicken, and fish BLT. Note that they're closed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and for lunch on Thursday. I really do hope that this place does well. We'll be back! read more

Prices are very expensive for amount of food you get. I got the chicken and it was so sour it makes you pucker. Sausage and rice is so dry. The sausage was so shriveled up it was terrible. Food wasn't even a warm. Won't be back and very disappointed in the quality of food. read more
