I was already skeptical of this place due to it being way out in lower awendaw but we went for a family birthday so wasn't my choice. Literally NO ONE was seated inside and maybe one other table was seated outside with us. However, we didn't get drinks until 30 minutes after seating (so of course I order another when she finally delivered but never received). Then we ordered apps and that took another hour(nothing to write about they were pretty blah). Who knows what the waitress was doing in the back. It took me all of 5 minutes at work to decide I needed to get this review in. What a night. It was a comedy or errors and most of those errors were the fault of Wando River Grill. We had a reservation for 10 at 6pm and got there at 5:40. I think I should have been wary for 2 reasons. First it has a bad star value at 2.5 and I did not pick the place but my family wanted a place on the water and I had not been here. With low expectations sometimes that works to make things seem not so bad. Not tonight. First thing while they were setting up the table I witnessed what I thought was a super rude gentleman that a waitress was close to the table and ran into a fellow waitress and dropped a plate of wings. This guy says to the waitress to not stop and go back to the kitchen right away and get more wings. Do not pick up the old ones until you go back and get the others. She did and when she did he said he was not paying for the other entrée and not eating it(acted like it was bad) and to bring the check and him and his son ate the wings and got out of there. So, now our experience. Our party got there at different times. First my wife and I and then another couple. The 4 of us sat there for a while when the waitress finally came by and said she would get us waters and come back for our drink order. Wow, took about 20 minutes and 9 of our 10 were all there before the waters came back. We got in our drink order finally and she said she'd be right back to get our order. W had decided because our mom was late(not the restaurants fault) to hold off on ordering but to get some apps. My drink was weak and melted ice. Well after messing up the drink order(I did not get mine until after everyone else) we thought we better get in this app order. We got the apps in about 20-30 minutes. And they were not good. Calamari was doughy and clumped up. The crab and artichoke dip was just yuck. Fried green tomatoes were the best but not good. There were 3 Yelpers at the table and we were starting to feel the pressure to start our review immediately. Became quite the joke at the table. We argued over who picked this place. No one wanted to admit it. During the appetizer deal our mother got there and we had not ordered because we had not been asked. Amazing really. We sat there with everyone just ticked off and finally asked for the check and left. This is probably the worst or at least bottom 3, most entertaining, restaurant experience of my life. What a waste of a restaurant. Fantastic view, great location, and they need new everything. You don't have 2.5 stars after 47 reviews and deserve to be open. I know this is harsh but it was not even busy. Everyone seemed upset at their tables. Watered down drinks, bad food, and horrific service. Our tab would have been pretty major and 10 people with 3 yelpers and some people that live close to there that will never be back. Not a good experience for them or us but we just took it in stride and got the hell out of there and headed to On 41. It was 8:30 and not open. Rushed over to Wasabi which was absolutely fantastic with super great service. Oh what a night! In hindsight I rethought and think that guy I thought was rude was right. If I could give a zero I would...the most poorly managed restaurant in the area. Go across the road to Swig & Swine or down the road to Agave or Fuji if you want good food with quality service. Gave this place a chance when they first opened and thought there were just some kinks that needed to be ironed out, 2 years later same poorly managed restaurant. Absolutely beautiful setting...WASTED. We got to the restaurant with a reservation at 7:15, the restaurant was empty at 8:45 (15 mins before closing) and we still had yet to receive our food but the staff blamed it on having only 2 servers while they broke down all the other outdoor furniture around us while we waited. We have tried The Wando Grill 6-7 times. Tonight might be our last. One member of our party ordered a shrimp cocktail. He got it after we were done with all of our food,. The shrimp were tiny and mealy. Sauce tasted like ketchup and water. He also ordered teriyaki wings. They came our burnt. Sent them back and they brought BBQ wings. Awful! Had to ask four times for water. Never offered refills on drinks. The hostess was awful!! Really very disappointing. We have tried it again and I am happy to say I see improvement! Still needs some tweaking but we have gone several times now and have been happy. read more

Great location, not so great food. Calamari tasted like they where frozen - not fresh, what you would expect from a nice restaurant on the window river. I had shrimp tacos. I really want this place to succeed. I've been six times in the last eighteen months. The first visit was good. Food was tasty and prices reasonable. We had a short wait for an indoor table. Subsequent visits I noted a steady decline in food quality and an increase in prices. Last night I ordered the Iron Pork Chops thinking those two chops would be plenty of food. Our second time there. Service was excellent, food just bland. We ordered fish tacos, grilled fish sandwich, and a cheeseburger. All tasted as though there was no seasoning at all on them. John and i decided to give this place a shot on memorial day after driving back home from Greenville. Thought it would be busy. Nope. So we decide to eat and cocktail at the bar. We wait...we wait as i observe the bartender and a server chatting it up at the end of bar. The server alerts the bartender she has customers and she continues her conversation. The Wando River Grill is a really nice place that could become very good. That said, there are a lot of kinks to be worked out before I would consider eating here again. After we arrived and waited, the hostess greeted us and told us it would be a few minutes because she had just seated a bunch of people. Then, seated us and gave us a menu to share because she was out of menus. Our waitress, Abby, greeted us, saw that we only had one menu, and quickly found one for us. She was friendly and worked hard throughout our stay. We looked at the menu and selected our meals. My wife selected the Mahi Tacos and I selected the Shrimp Basket. Abby took our orders and returned with our waters.. As we waited for our food, I couldn't help but watch the servers. They seemed very confused and were walking all over with the orders, attempting to find what table they belonged to. It was very distracting. When our food arrived, the first thing my wife noticed was that one of her tacos had grill marks/burned spots and that it wasn't very flavorful, while the other was fine and had plenty of flavor; inconsistent tacos on the same plate. My meal, the fried shrimp basket was very greasy and was definitely from a frozen box. The fries, which the waitress recommended, tasted freezer burned. The "great seasoning" she mentioned seemed to be salt and pepper. Overall, the experience was pretty underwhelming and certainly not worth $30. I realize the location is worth something, but this was a $15 meal. The location is great and the decor is nice. Once they get over some start up issues and get the menu and pricing right, this will be a great local spot. Other thoughts It seems like the restaurant is really pushing their appetizers. we were asked several times if we would like one. The restaurant uses very small glasses, no more than 8 oz, and a lot of ice. One or two big sips and the water was gone. We had to wait a while for refills the first time. After that they came pretty frequently. Larger glasses (20 or 32 oz) would save the wait staff a lot of work and patrons some frustration, especially as Summer kicks in. We usually go to Shem Creek restaurants and was thrilled to finally get to this restaurant via boat with the new bridge. Unfortunately, the food is just ok. The menu is a bit boring i.e. shrimp scampi ravioli does not use local shrimp and is probably shipped in frozen. The setting is very nice, but no TV's outside for some reason. It has great potential, but really needs to step op the food. I do not get the impression that much of what they are offering is fresh. In a word, absent the nice view everything else is - lackluster. I want them to succeed! So I will continue to check their website and will try it again. read more

Took a chance and came and loved it! Service was great and the food was absolutely delicious! We split the huge 12 ounce Hawaiian Ribeye which included truffle infused mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. All was perfectly done and the steak was medium just as we ordered it. My husband also ordered the She Crab soup and it was wonderful. Cocktail prices were very reasonable as well. Travis, the chef, came out to meet us and answered my questions about the wonderful marinade the steak was prepared in. Travis made us feel very welcome. There was no wait and if you come during the day the view is spectacular. Don't let mediocre reviews you see on this website keep you from trying it. We will be coming back for sure! read more

Visited Wednesday evening for dinner. We sat outside with the great view and weather. We had the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer, which were a big hit! For our main course we had the burger and seafood basket, both were very good with a generous size portion. The updated menu seems to be very popular. We will definitely be returning. First, a definite 5 out of 5 for location and view. Beautiful setting/scenery overlooking the water. Went on a Monday night for dinner so it wasn't crowded. We ordered the calamari and she crab soup to start. Soup was topped with sherry, thus making it very flavorful. A tad too thin for my liking, but very good nonetheless. Calamari was fair (just the rings and no great flavor to it). Our entrees were the shrimp tacos. Again, just fair. I love spicy food, but this was just too hot/spicy. I'd rather have some different tastes to the contents of the rest of the soft taco and not just the rub on the shrimp. Strangest thing was that the tails were kept on the shrimp thus making us dissect our dinners, pulling the shrimp tails off and reassembling them to eat. Wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Lastly, when a mixed drink is ordered, it should always be served in a highball glass. My rum and soda came in a lowball glass. We will go back as its a good place to bring the kids..and that location. That location is a 5 out of 5! read more

The service here has been sub par. I attended with a large dining party (of 9 people) and they were pretty unhappy and noncooperative. When the hostess saw us walk in she rolled her eyes. They seemed pretty annoyed that they had to push two tables together. Also, we have asked to split the check and they acted as if we insulted them. One attendee in my party asked for Diet Coke and they brought her Diet Pepsi without warning her, the blasphemy. Another attendee ordered what was supposed to be sweet tea, however, it was not. It was clearly diluted tea, probably made by adding an instant tea packet to water. Additionally, my drink has been left empty for over 45 minutes. We also requested to move inside because it was very chilly and there were many tables to sit at inside. After one hour of waiting, we were permitted to move indoors. After waiting an hour for food, they brought everyone's food except one person's because they dropped it. One person ordered a salad for their appetizer and did not receive it until after the entrees. As for the food, chicken tenders and fries were run of the mill. The grilled chicken was soaked in lemon and that is all you could taste. The Mahi tacos were soggy. Macaroni and cheese tasted as if it were microwaved. Burger was average and overpriced. One positive thing is that the grits were good. Once we received the Caesar salad, it was just a salad. The service was so poor that I felt the need to make a Yelp account just to express my and the rest of my party's anger. If only 0 stars were an option... read more

I ordered a wedge salad and it was the saddest wedge salad I had ever seen.. And it was expensive. I had to order another entree on top of that to fill me up. We were truly very excited when Wando River Grill opened for business. Living in northern Mount Pleasant we don't have much in the way of selection for dining. After another terrible experience this afternoon I knew I had to speak up. We have given this place 6 chances since it opened; only to be disappointed each time. The front of the house is ran by children with little to no food and beverage experience. Waiting 20 to 30 minutes for drink re-fills, wait staff having no knowledge of the menu or drink selections and tables left dirty. They constantly confuse orders and are always incredibly inattentive. The food is average and prices are decent... but the kitchen staff is incredibly slow and we often waited over an hour for our food to arrive. Every time we ordered appetizers they showed up with our meals. Their only redeeming factor is the location. The venue is beautiful but it seems like every time we visit people allow their children and dogs to run rampant while we're trying to enjoy some level of peace. This morning we arrived at 1130 and we're turned away by a very rude and obviously inexperienced child hostess. Her excuse was that the restaurant was hosting an event upstairs at 1200 and wouldn't be serving meals to walk ins until their prep for this event was complete... although they advertise opening at 11. I'm not one to complain in an open forum like this... their service was so poor that I downloaded this app just to write this review. I hope management takes heed of this review and all the other negative reviews that's have similarly been submitted. We really hoped this place would do well. I'm sad to see that a place with such great potential is being ran in such a poor way. We tried to extend grace and understanding on several occasions thinking maybe the staff were having an off night but it is obvious that there is a pattern of poor management and hiring going on here. Great dinner last night at Wando River Grill! The wings, shrimp tacos and the large bucket of steamed oysters were delicious. The oysters, from Bulls Bay, were also a great value in the $12 range! If you haven't been to the Wando Grill recently, then you should consider giving it another try. New chef, new management, new menu -- and they seem to be actually trying to get their act together. Visited on Friday night and sat at bar. Bartender - Amanda - was friendly and efficient. The beer cheese and pretzel will good and the shaved ribeye sandwich was very good. The soft ice cream is a great little treat. We will definitely be back. read more
