Bread is great and Lance is welcoming. I could not make it to the farmers market but picked up some bread at his bakery. Will do this again.

My family and I were visiting the area to check out the mission in downtown. We wanted a simple and…read morelaid-back place to get a bite to eat being that we had our 3 year old us. After a quick check on yelp, this place came highly recommended. I was a little bit worried when I arrived. We were the only people in the entire restaurant. My wife and I were seated quickly. I did appreciate that the menu was not overly complicated. It made it easy to make our selections. They also did offer happy hour specials during the week. I opted for the double Smashburger and fries. The Smashburger comes with their signature sauce, which you can order at a few different spice levels. The girl at the counter said that normally people go with the regular spice level so I opted for that. When my burger and fries arrived, I was quite surprised at the portion sizes. My basket was filled with french fries and my burger was pleasantly large. In regards to the flavor I do have to say this was probably one of the best tasting burgers I have ever had. I didn't want to note that they do use sweet pickles on their burgers here. But it just works with the flavor that they're going for. My wife ordered the "my girlfriend is not hungry" sampler platter. This came with fries, onion rings, pretzel bites chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks. Everything was great tasting. Their onion rings were cooked to absolute perfection. The restaurant itself on the inside is a little bit small so I could imagine on days that they are busy. It might get a little bit cramped. I did also wanna mention that I did like that. They had a changing table in the restroom. That was a nice touch that you honestly do not see at a lot of restaurants even the mainstream ones.

Last December, a friend came across The Cave while looking for a place to have lunch in Ventura and…read moresuggested we give it a try. I'm really glad he did because it's the kind of place I probably wouldn't have found on my own. The first thing that caught our attention was the self-serve wine dispensers lined with bottles ready to sample. We had a lot of fun walking back and forth, looking over the different selections, and deciding what to taste next. Being able to sample wines by the ounce before committing to a full glass made the whole experience feel interactive. I especially liked that I could compare different Cabernet Sauvignons side by side, which isn't something you get to do very often. After trying a few different Cabernets, Chimney Rock ended up being my favorite. The dining room added to the experience. The cave-like ceilings, warm lighting, and comfortably spaced tables made it easy to settle in, enjoy our lunch, and catch up without feeling cramped or rushed. If you enjoy trying different wines, it's easy to lose track of time here. We started with a cheese plate, which turned out to be much more generous than I expected. It came with a nice assortment of cheeses, crisp apple slices, grapes, candied walnuts, crostini, and a savory relish on the side. It was a great dish to share with our wine. My friend ordered the tuna poke tower, and we shared the cheese flatbread and sweet potato fries. I went with the Original Cave Salad with salmon, which came with a generous piece of perfectly cooked salmon over fresh greens, apples, grapes, walnuts, and blue cheese. Everything tasted fresh, and the portions were generous enough that we left completely satisfied. One thing I appreciated was that we never felt rushed. Lunch naturally turned into an afternoon of catching up, comparing notes on the different wines, and deciding which pours we wanted to try next. Before we left, we wandered through the wine shop one more time. If you discover a favorite during lunch, you can pick up a bottle before heading home, which is a nice touch. I'm really glad my friend found this place. The next time I'm in Ventura, it'll definitely be on my list again.

Had a baby shower scheduled on a Saturday and left completely disappointed. Firstly, we scheduled…read morethis event and paid a deposit well over 6 weeks ago. The day before, the owner Michele couldn't seem to find the paperwork where we discussed menu, family style, decor, budget etc. Thankfully, we went in the day before to double check everything. Not only were we met with a misogynistic retort to everything we talked about but he did not clarify any details that we later found out would be important. The day of the event, we accidentally hit a bottle of wine bringing in the decorations. Total accident! During the party, we had to constantly find our server (super nice guy but terrible service) to take drink orders, to take food orders, and to clear the table and bring to go boxes. Drinks weren't refilled. We cut and served the cake we brought. Then our bill comes and surprising to us, we were charged a room fee (which I confirmed they DID NOT have prior to booking), charged a cake fee (just for them to store it in their fridge and NEVER told there would be a fee for bringing a dessert, despite Michele asking the day before if we were bringing our own or using them for dessert), and he charged us $50 for the bottle we accidentally broke. With all these extra charges, in addition to already paying a deposit, we were way over the previously discussed budget. I never would have agreed to his idea of everyone ordering individual dishes instead of family style plus his outrageous extra fees had I know it was going to blow the budget. He had every opportunity to tell us there is a cake fee (never have I EVER had to pay a fee to bring a cake- even our server said he felt it was in poor taste to charge us for that). We refused to pay the room fee because we already put down a deposit and were never told there would be these extraneous charges! The terrible ending happened when I slipped and fell (8 months pregnant) in the front of the restaurant RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE OWNER, who stood over me as I was on the ground, and said "you must have slipped on the wine you spilled." Never offered concern, never offered to help me and never apologized. A staff member from the kitchen ran out to help me despite Michel being an arms length from me, looking down on me. Such a disgrace. My dress was dirtied from their floor and I was left with bruises on my knees the next day. No wet floor sign, clearly the floor wasn't cleaned up properly or dried. We will never patronize this restaurant again. What was meant to be a beautiful event turned into a calamity met with a chauvinist owner who lacks customer service and compassion.

The outdoor patio is also very nice and calming, as well as comfortably shaded (which is great on a hot day). The food is great, and I think they are especially good on sweet breakfast items. The beignets are wonderful: crispy in the outside and soft on the inside. They aren't hollow like other beignets I've had, but I actually prefer this version. It's kinda like a light cake consistency. The sauce with them is also superb. My niece got the breakfast sandwich and I was quite envious. The combo of bacon, egg, cheese and brioche is solid, and if I could do it over again I'd order that with the hash brown (to be inserted in the sandwich). I got the chili verde and it was good, but I'd say other breakfast items I've had (the pancakes, the Benedict) are more uniquely stand out good.

So we decided to sit outside where it felt a bit more open. We got a corner spot that was secluded, which was perfect for the kids! Our waiter was very attentive and nice. We tried the chocolate French toast and presentation was amazing- taste... not so much. Overall the food is great for a demographic that doesn't value flavor and too much salt. We left 80% of the food because we couldn't enjoy it. If you like your eggs like they serve at hotel continental breakfasts-- you'll enjoy this place!

The Beignets were warm, light, and fluffy without being overly sweet, and the Lemon Blueberry Pancakes were soft, fresh, and had just the right amount of lemon to complement the blueberries. We also loved the house-made raspberry jam that came with the toast. It was fresh, flavorful, and honestly something I'd come back for on its own. The employees were kind, place was clean, there's in and outdoor seating, and parking is what you make of it as PP is located on a blocked off street where cars are not permitted. All to say, research where you wish to walk about, find a meter or free parking lot - enough around, and put on your good yet cute walking shoes because you'll enjoy strolling about after your meal here - or drink. FOOD: I sooo loved my grill cheese. Instead of mushrooms I swapped for spinach - you're welcome. AND THE PICKLE ON THE SIDE - delish! So why 4 and not 5? Because of my limited lifestyle I found the menu a bit limiting. However, I am not a HUGE cheese person and I don't drink. With that said, I feel anyone else who loves to indulge in that world should have a super great experience. Mine was still great. WELL: I actually enjoyed my time and shall return. My mother loves a good red wine so I'll bring her too.
