Really good food, but I especially like the shrimp tacos with the remoulade sauce. The service is also very good.

Passing through town on work trip noticed this small spot to try some local fresh seafood. As I walked in I liked the vibe right away...small, clean, smells great and the fresh menu items are written on the wall boards!!! Just the way I like it! Ordered Soft Crab Bites and a small Clam Chowder. The soup was completely different from the typical milky chowder, brothy, salty with a good amount of clams inside! The Crab Bites were A+!!! Our first experience here started out with the least friendly reception ever received at a restaurant. We were never greeted, never asked if we needed a menu, never given even a small, fake smile. She rattled off the combo plates, acted impatient when we were looking over the sides menu on the wall. Then said 40.00+ no drinks! The Food was good, while nothing to write home about. But it was ok, maybe a little better than chain restaurants. Would I go again? Possibly, the saving grace was the young lady that, despite forgetting to get our tartar sauce, was very sweet, when I went to the window to ask for it again. read more

When I heard the name I thought of George Washington as a giant crab and I laughed. All jokes aside, this place serves fine seafood for the whole family. Little more than a plate of shrimp made me feel like I was in the deep ocean abyss. There's netting on the walls. Paddles. My son works on a fishing boat. For fast and Friendly service and really good seafood you need to give these guys a try! Come in straight off the boat or the beach it doesn't matter. Very laid back comfy seating this is where to go when you want to eat some good seafood and not wanting to dress up. They have inside and deck area eating. We had our order within 5 minutes and it was hot and delicious! You order at the window but the staff will come to your table and answer any questions and get you refills on your drink. I met some ladies at a local farm market yesterday and one of them (all were locals), told me if I wanted fresh fish, that this was the place to go. 2nd visit in past year, 1st time in April 2018 food was great, but tonight Jan 5th, 2019 was a total disappointment. Ordered takeout Shrimp and Scallop Combination, the scallops were burnt only got 3 small bay scallops and the shrimp were small (slightly larger than popcorn) and they tasted like the grease was old and the hush puppies were soggy. I don't know what happened here but it's certainly gone downhill and the next time we're in town we'll eat somewhere else. read more

The Washington Crab and Seafood Shack has become a bit of a Friday night tradition for my sister and me and we have yet to be disappointed. Without a doubt they have the tastiest fried oysters anywhere in North Carolina. The oysters are always fresh and the sides (despite what another reviewer claimed) are definitely homemade. On our most recent visit we were surprised to learn they had added sweet potato casserole as a side. I do not know if it was a temporary addition or something we will see regularly, but I sure hope it is a regular menu item. YUM! The prices are good (though admittedly not great) and portions are decent sized. You are paying for quality over quantity here, so do not expect the super large portions you might find at some of the joints hocking frozen fish and Delmonte green beans, Still, as you can see from the photo, a large oyster plate should satisfy most appetites. The staff is also very friendly and attentive which is great. On our most recent visit we were even treated to a singing chef that could be heard in the back! gotta love a man who enjoys his work. read more

Music at the order station is too loud. Couldn't understand what was being said to us and visa Versace. Ordered raw oysters OnThe half shell. Came to the table whole with oyster knives for us to shuck ourselves. They did finally shuck them but left all kinds of shell in The oysters. So they were for the most part inedible. So very sad. I was excited to find a local seafood restaurant in the small town although I must say I was not impressed with my experience. We ordered the grilled shrimp and grilled tuna the tuna was supposed to be the fresh catch of the day but you could tell it was a processed fillet that was way overcooked the shrimp were extremely chewy and came out cold. I was not impressed for the $50 we spent for dinner the crab bisque appetizer was good but came out so hot we had to let it sit until after entrées were there to be able to eat it. I want to like this place. I live here. I've been three times now in three years, leaving each time disappointed. Different reasons each time except for one: $100 for three people to eat incredibly mundane, overcooked seafood. In an area where fresh product is always available, Washington Crab manages to insure each and every sea creature they meet dies in vain. She crab soup sent back once ($8 a cup) as it was cold, returned as cold as it was when it left. Flounder tasted like over-fried frozen flounder. Crab cakes could be bested by Ms. Paul. I won't pick on the staff as we're damn lucky anyone showed up for work these days. Cool little place that has location and a bunch of promise. Management presented me a $10 credit when all I requested was a refund on the soup, which they honored. I appreciated the gesture. I didn't show myself or anything. Can I give it zero stars? I cannot figure out all the five star raving reviews of this place. There is nothing fresh about this seafood at all! Granted, it is better than what you can get in the freezer section, better than the heavily breaded tiny shrimp pieces you get at some places, but you can tell it has been frozen and is mushy. The slaw tasted rancid and we were afraid to eat it. One in our party got the crab cake sandwich, it is NOT lump crab meat, it is blue crab. We asked and were told lump, maybe they just didnt know the difference. $75 for lunch with 3 people with no alcohol is too much for inedible food. We enjoyed it so much the first time we came back two more times during our stay in Washington. The food was amazing. I had the boiled shrimp three times in a row! So I came here with a few others (approximately 8-9 people) the other Saturday and it was a pretty good experience. It's a reasonably sized place with a patio outside with a fire pit/ fireplace. We promptly ordered at the window and sat outside on the patio. I ordered crab cake platter and the first batch were super salty. The crab cakes were reordered and the tasted better. It took a while for the second batch, so I had to take them to go. The service was excellent and the price point was really good. The rest of the party enjoyed their food.
