The chicken here is pretty flavorful and definitely stands out from other fried chicken chains like Canes. Although the tenders are a little on the drier side, the crispiness of the outside and the flavor make up for it. The plates come with seasoned fries (which are great) and half a waffle, which perfectly compliment the chicken. The portion sizes are also pretty generous for the price as well which is a bonus. I was so disappointed. There is little to no actual crunchy crust on the tenders. It's as if they were simply rolled in flour before frying -- and if you've ever made fried chicken you know that won't do it. Crust on fried chicken should be thick, and should separate just a bit from the meat. This requires either a batter, or alternating dips in flour and egg (not just a flour dredge). There was also very little in the way of flavor. The chicken wasn't really overcooked, just slightly dry. And very bland. The waffle was also a letdown. This is the most interesting fried chicken you'll ever have in your life. It's not what you expect that's for sure. The price is right - let's start with that. The amount of food you get is huge for what you pay. The fries are also well seasoned and plentiful, so you won't leave hungry. The waffle is your pretty standard continental breakfast belgian waffle with some pretty generic syrup if you're into the whole chicken and waffles thing. But we care about the chicken most of all and it's interesting....they smoke it before they fry it, effectively twice cooking it. The breading is light and thin, the chicken is juicy too, but at the end of the bite, I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to feel? It's taking two good concepts (smoked chicken and fried chicken) and mashing them together and you end up with something neither here nor there. Smoky flavor isn't strong enough to say its bbq. Chicken isn't crispy enough and breading flakes off way too much to be good fried chicken either. So you're stuck in this middle space where the collagen in the chicken is clearly broken down and tender but without the satisfaction of either food group. When you think fried chicken especially, you want crunchy, crisp, slightly greasy chicken - not soggy and smoky. So I would probably come back and try the chicken tenders, but smoked fried chicken just ain't cutting it for me. read more

In my second visit to this food truck this weekend, I noticed some profound improvements compared to the first time I visited. The chicken tenders and waffles I ordered had just the right amount of moisture to pair with the crispy texture. I ordered my tenders spicy and they delivered the kick I was expecting. The waffles were soft and carried that semi-sweet flavor that goes so nicely with spicy chicken. I was finally able to also try their Coleslaw, which goes great with pretty much all their food thanks to the base ingredients being Honey mustard and bbq sauce instead of some greasy mayo. Their crispy chicken sandwich featuring three tenders in a brioche was also on point, especially when the aforementioned Coleslaw is added to the classic ranch and pickle recipe. Mac n cheese and fries are average, so you won't miss skipping on those. For dipping, I remain a fan of their Asian Firecracker sauce as it has that ideal sweet n spicy flavor balance to tingle the tastebuds. Prices are reasonable and customer service is decent too, as my order was taken and prepared efficiently without issue. There was only one guy taking orders and also cooking. The seasoning on the fries was great and the order was made fresh! However, the chicken was super disappointing was one of the worst chickens I have had in my life. Maybe I am not used to smoked chicken but it looked burnt and tasted burnt. The guy who runs Longhorn Chicken, Eddie, is one of the best people you will meet. He's always friendly, as helpful as can be, and makes the experience so welcoming! On to the food, don't get anything other than the chicken strips or chicken sandwich in my opinion. It's their specialty for a reason! The chicken is smoked and fried, so it's an awesome flavor combo. The chicken texture is off and odd sometimes, so just be warned, but the food is AMAZING most of the time. The batter wouldn't stick to the chicken making it a mess to eat, it had random hard chunks that were inedible, and ultimately biting in revealed the chicken to be very undercooked/pink. I ate here on a whim because I was ravenous after staying late at swing dance and was driving aimlessly through west campus looking for something open. Uhhh so this humble food truck is the best chicken and waffles I have ever had in my life. I got the spicy tenders with fries and a waffle (they ran out of mash because they were so busy and I was there pretty late!!) Happy accident! Because those fries were SO GOOD. Took a bite and I suddenly understood the perfect crunch-to-fluff ratio all French fries strive for but so often fall short of. Also I love the spices they use on the fries!
