An interesting menu is somewhat hampered by a strange interior and genuinely low quality service. The appetizer was OK sausage sampler. My cabbage rolls were tremendous, but my friends were less enthused about their meals and I'm not shocked. if the kitchen is half as confused as the bar it's no wonder I tried to get a cosmopolitan and after several bartenders, just sort of walked away from me finally, a server came up and asked if they could help and I said I was been waiting for a drink for a while She was a real sweetheart and tried to make a cosmopolitan, but had never seen one before. I don't often leave reviews, but as someone who often misses her great-grandmothers German cooking on a regular basis: this place won my heart!! I live in San Antonio, smack dab in the Texas "German Belt" and can't find food this authentic. The atmosphere is relaxed, and unassuming, making it a great place to grab a beer (from their extensive tap selection) after work or on a nice day sit out on the patio with a craft cocktail. The Pork Schnitzel sandwich was perfection. (I highly recommend adding the sauerkraut on top). Even the pickles tasted like grandmas. read more

It has been two years since my family and I visited Houston, on the last visit is when we first tried Watershed. It was booming our first visit, great food, great beer, and great service and the irony was that it was 2020. So on our return visit we decided we really wanted to have this place again. To our suprise it was quite what we were hoping for, the entire visit was almost a domino effect. We showed up on a Sunday (10/23/22) around 12:30 PM and were greeted by a young lady at the bar. We waited to be told were to directed were to sit, at that point we were the only ones besides the workers there. My husband had to go up to the bar for menus which I slightly recall doing before. After sitting for a bit we decided on few appetizers only to be told what we had chosen was out. So my husband returns to the table and we decided on something else only to be told that was out, but they could modify the dish. At this point when he returned, I said it was probably best to ask what they did have so we weren't wasting anymore time going back and forth on what to order. When he returned to the bar this time he was told they were out of a lot of items because of the previous days of people coming in to watch games. Finally were settle on a pretzel and meatballs. We did wait a bit for the items which I believe are made fresh, so its understandable. When they are the pretzel was good and came with both a butter and a spicy brown mustard. The meatballs weren't quite what I recall as far as texture, a little more bread than moist than before. For our entrees we both decided to keep and easy and not face anymore disappoint of something else being not available and went with pork schnitzel. When both plates arrived they both seemed to have been slightly burned. Because we were so hungry, we decided not to complain because of the time if had already taken to receive each dish. I think what did me in for the visit was being thirsty and asking for a cup of water only for the young lady to reply with the drink station was in the corner. Kinda hard to get anything to drink without a cup!? I found that odd because he service had been on and she had previously apologized for them being out of so many items. In the end, I understand places and people have their days so maybe this just was not their day. If you're here to eat bratwurst, this is the only review you need. You're either gonna love the bratwurst, or think it's just OK. That's because it tastes very natural, almost like seasoned ground pork within a light casing. Maybe this is due to my unrefined palette but this is unfortunately not the kind of sausage I look forward to. If you like this natural taste, then this bratwurst will knock your socks off and you should look at this like a 5 star review. But if you're like me, and you want some thing, that's closer to a highly processed, juicy, hot dog, with a little bit of snap, then go elsewhere, for you won't like this. It's so hard to find nice non-chain restaurants in this area where you can just chill with friends. I feel like this place has a nice, homey vibe to it. Not to mention their food is bomb. They have a German-inspired menu, and I was told they make everything everything in house. I realllly liked theIr homemade spatzle! It was like Mac and cheese but with doughy noodles. Their schnitzel was also perfectly crispy on the outside and tender in the inside. Their pork shank is a must if you're ok to spend a little more. It's suuuuper tender! I also highly recommend their Packed Fries with goulash gravy. Sooooooo good!!! They have some nice cocktail options and lots of local beers on tap. This is a very welcome addition to the 'hood. If any of y'all are familiar with this area, there's no shortage of very sketchy dive bars, which hey, used to be my thing! But I'm a boring old mom now and I'm pretty sure the dive bars of my youth wouldn't appreciate the presence of a toddler, irrespective of how well behaved he is, which he isn't always, but anyway . . . what was I going on about again? Yes so Watershed is a little bit like a family-friendly chillax pseudo sports-bar (boy am I awesome at descriptions or what, hah). It's quite an open space and there's seating outside - should the weather be particularly nice. I want to say there's a television or two available, usually with some sort of sporting event playing (but my memory is terrible despite having been here three or more times, hah). The staff is quite friendly and warm, which is something I always appreciate. We've only been here in the evenings, when it hasn't been all that crowded, so I'm entirely sure whether it gets rowdy during game days and whatnot. As far as the food go, the actually offer vegan options! I've had the sweet potato fries (delicious, of course and my toddler adores them), spinach salad, and portobello sandwich. The sandwich had excellent flavor, but I would suggest just entirely gobbling it down while at Watershed as the bread because incredibly soggy with the passage of time thanks to the mushroom. The husband has sampled a variety of things and he's really enjoyed everything he's ordered thus far. The beer selection is pretty legit and Watershed does offer a limited selection of wines for us beer-haters. Definitely love this place and will be back as it's become something we look forward to during our weekend evening strolls! read more

Was recently in town visiting in-laws and had to make a stop at Watershed, one of their favorite restaurants. It did not disappoint! The four of us ordered something like 10 different dishes so we could sample a little bit of everything and it was all so good. My faves were the Pretzel Bites (Watershed should bottle that cheese sauce!!!), Spätzle that reminded me of my childhood...the homemade Spätzle made by my German grandfather. yum! And I also loved the fish and chips, sausage sampler, and cabbage rolls. These are not easy dishes to do well, but Watershed nails it. The fish was crispy and perfectly seasoned. The sausages ("Best of the Wurst") were tender and flavorful. Fun, friendly place with creative, delicious food. I was initially skeptical about coming to this place since the review listed it as classy... This class is not the word I would use although that is not a bad thing... The place is more of a sports bar feel as it had NBA games and trivia going on while I was here... They have a very good selection of beer to choose from as well as a very charming and inspired menu... Pink meat! When I am back in Houston on business, I will definitely come here again... Ordered to go...fish and chips were great (to be fair I substituted sweet potato fries for the original chips, next time I'll try the chips). The smoked Reuben is also good, but I tend to prefer an original Reuben. But again, it's a good sandwich. The spinach salad is amazing, very good flavors there. Service was good, food was ready when I went in to pick up. Nice setting - there were families there when I went in but it was still calm and chill. Definitely going back. A unique experience in our neighborhood to get German food. They also have a good drink selection. A lot of neighborhoods supported them through covid but unfortunately they often got our order wrong which is really sad when you think they'd be super careful with takeout only orders during a lockdown. Love the people who opened up this place in an underserved area. We have restaurants but mostly chain stuff. They have their place but we need some beard oil and tattoos to catch up with the heights. I have heard of this spot close to Meyerland and have been meaning to give it a try. I was finally able to this weekend. In a complex of strip centers by a Randlles and off the corner of the South 610 Loop. You order at the counter, as there are no waiters that come to tables. Sitting at the bar they are quick to great and serve everyone. Food comes out quick, and I really like the service as I prefer this set up to Waiters/Waitresses that are either to eager or to absent. The servers at the counter are knowledgeable and chatty as well. I think one of the owners was working on my visit, and he was working hard. There is a small patio outside, inside is a square bar with seating on three sides. Plenty of seating at low top tables or booths along the wall. There are big windows that let in plenty of light. TV's at the bars but not intrusive if you don't want to pay attention. I saw a couple of small dogs outside in the patio, and this is a family friendly place. All of which I enjoy. On to the beer...There are around 30 rotating taps. Ranging from a lot of locals like Eureka Heights, Great Heights, Brash, to Texas regional offerings from Live Oak and 512. A few bigger regionals like Deschutes, and even some German imports like Hofbrau. They were doing specials for the Texan's playoff game when I was there, and they do happy hour throughout the weekday's. They have wine and cocktails as well. Food is a nice mix of sandwiches, sausages, bigger entrees, and some interesting German fair. While I wouldn't call this a German restaurant, there is a bit of an influence, and they also use a smoker for a lot of things as well. The Kesseler Sandwich is excellent, smoked pork loin served cold. On great pumpernickel bread with sauerkraut, house made pickles, and Munster cheese. The Ruben looks awesome as does the sausages, so lots to go for here. The food might be priced a few dollars to much, but what you going to do? Not a big deal for me. This is a really good neighborhood spot for people in the area, as this is kind of a dead zone for good beer, hell there are not a lot of local casual pubs to hang out at around here either. Glad I got a chance to visit, next time I'm on this side of town, I'm here. A 4.5 star review. read more

There is a lot to like about this place and I've been here twice now despite it being on the other side of town for me. The food is not necessarily their strong point...although some of the items are pretty great. I love the soft pretzel and the German potato salad, while not authentic german potato salad, is better than the authentic kind. Little tokens of perfectly roasted potatoes with red onion and a mustard dressing that is reminiscent of the original stuff but elevated. Don't skip this side. Its the best thing they make. Then on the other hand, the "Jäeger sauce" is a watery regretful shadow of real jäeger sauce that you'd get on your schnitzel. It tastes ok-ish....but the consistency is not good. If you're looking for authentic German food, you're probably going to be disappointed here. If you're looking for a fun spot to hang with friends and get some decent "german-style" food, you will like this place. Otherwise try Rudy Lechner's which isn't too far away. read more
